Pitch For Me

Rate this book
I had a one-night stand with a gorgeous stranger, believing I’d never see him again. Except who did he turn out to be? Troy Winters, starting pitcher for the MLB and the hottest single dad to grace the planet.

What’s worse, he’s now my son’s new baseball coach.

In my defense, Troy and I had agreed to exchange fake names and occupations that fateful night in a seedy Colorado bar. One perfect night of no strings and a quick escape from my busy single mom life. . . Right?

Fast forward to a re-meet-cute that had me diving under a chair, an injury that sidelined him for a year, and now Troy is coaching my son’s team while he recovers.

His smoldering golden-hued gaze makes one thing clear: he’s not letting me disappear again.

But after a highly publicized divorce from a narcissistic pro-golfer, I’m done with the spotlight and athletes. No matter how cute their rear end looks in a uniform.

Yet Troy is relentless. Between his bond with my boy, his tenderness for his daughter, and our scorching chemistry, my walls are crumbling.

So I offer a compromise: a friends-with-benefits situation while he recovers. Once he returns to the MLB, we’ll go back to being just friends.

Simple enough, right?

Except, the more time I spend wrapped in his arms, the less simple everything becomes.

Now, with the MLB calling him back, I have a choice to make: stick to our deal and protect my heart or risk everything for the spotlight I’d vowed to avoid.

Pitch For Me by Swati M. H
4,5/5⭐
2,5/5🌶️

I've had this author's book on my radar for quite some time, and now that I have finally picked one up, I'm kicking myself for waiting so long! This book is simply amazing. I don't remember the last time I laughed so hard while reading—seriously, it was packed with funny moments. But it’s not just about the laughs; this author knows how to tug at your heartstrings. One moment I was in stitches, and the next, I had tears because the emotions hit so hard. The story is simple and profound, and you can't help but fall in love with the characters. With the addition of adorable cats and the sweetest kids, this book truly is perfection.

Sarina has been through a lot with her past relationships, especially with athletes, which makes her super cautious when she meets Troy, a famous baseball player. She’s hesitant to jump into anything and tries to keep her distance. Troy is a single dad and an incredibly talented pitcher. After spending one night together, he knows Sarina is different. When they bump into each other again a month later, he’s determined to show her they could have something special.

I loved watching Troy and Sarina’s relationship blossom. They’re both single parents who connect not just with each other, but with each other’s kids, too. Troy is so patient and understanding with Sarina. He never pushes her; instead, he shows her that she can trust and rely on him. There are so many swoon-worthy moments mixed with plenty of humor, especially the hilarious chat messages between their friends. I loved how they playfully teased each other while still being super supportive.

Overall, this book was such a delightful surprise! If you're on the hunt for a love story that will have you laughing out loud and swooning at the same time, you need to check this one out!

I know everyone has read a single mom book or a single dad book, but have you read a book with a single dad and a single mom??? Oh. Emm. Gee. This book was fantastic! Amazing tropes—I need more books like this one. Sarina is amazing, and her son Rome… gosh, I love him. Troy and his daughter Pearl are the perfect match for them. I really enjoyed reading this story. You are going to laugh out loud, swoon over everything Troy does for Sarina, and maybe your eyes will get a little misty too. Falling in love with them every moment is totally warranted. Sarina is perfectly imperfect just as Troy described her. A strong heroine yes but she needs to be like that after everything she has been through. Love Troy and how he put Pear first in everything. He is an excellent father, great athlete and amazing lover. The texts chats specially the Six Schlongs Hen Party… you aren’t ready for them I love all their personalities they are hilarious together. Grumpy, serious, sweet, funny, mature. Love them all, specially Hudson (IYKYK). Can’t wait to read the next one and know more about Nisha and Patton.

This book was truly amazing. Swati really outdone herself with this one. It is definitely a roller coaster of emotions. I was swooning one second and crying from laughing so hard the next. Troy immediately stole my heart. He was the sweetest. My heart broke for what Sarina and Rome had to go through. The chemistry between Troy and Rina was everything!! I couldn’t not get enough of it. Also their kids were so cute and the sweetest. I loved how each character had a village rallying behind them. The ending was so perfect and I cannot wait for the next book!! This one is definitely a must read!!

My first book by Swati M.H.and please excuse me while I dive headfirst into her backlist.

The palpable chemistry from the very first time Troy and Sarina were on the page had me in a chokehold the entire book. I teared up and laughed out loud, sometimes in the same scene. I loved how Troy was all in from the beginning and how Sarina fell hard for both Troy and his little girl, despite her fears from the past. Loved every minute of this book and can't wait to read Nisha and Pierce!

Haircuts and Heartthrobs Book 2
✂️ ⚾️
The first thing I want to say is I LOVE all the representation in this book. Sarina with her vitiligo, Pearl being deaf and how Rome wanted to learn ASL so he could speak with her. 😭

The group chats are ALWAYS my favorite chats to date. I literally laugh out loud at the absurdity. 😆 Snatch was THE best! & how Troy was always there to blame, golden 👏

Ugh, I think I fell in love with Troy Trojan too. 😩 Troy and Sarina are amazing, when it’s just them two, they get to be just who they are and the real them shine through when together. But they’re also perfect when they’re with their family, esp their 2 amazing kids. I could go on and on about moments with the 4 of them or just when it’s Sarina/Rome or Troy/Pearl. I honestly think this beats Piper & Dev for me and theirs is top tier!

You just need to read it, it’s 5 ⭐️ for me. The 🌶️ was spicin’ and quite a bit of it, you’ll hear zero complaints from me. That man looooved his breakfast or dessert; depending on the time of day.

Thank you so much Swati for letting me read this beautiful ARC for you!

Swati omg this was amazing!!

I wasn’t sure anyone was ever going to top Dev and Piper for me but I think Troy and Sarina may have!!

Troy and Sarina are pure perfection , they are funny and sweet and amazing parents to their littles!! Rome and Pearl are the sweetest kids ever.

I love that even though Sarina is battling some personal battles Troy is always there for her, his patience and strength is amazing. And with Troy going through was he is Sarina is still there with her support.

To top it off the group chats are on point I was laughing out loud at the ridiculous things that came from them 🤣🩷

The spice is for sure spicing in this one as well invest in a fan 😜

I absolutely loved it!! It was such a fun read!

Where do I find me a Troy? I mean seriously.

This man is the greenest of the green flags, and I am here for it. Sarina has been through so much and her aversion to men in the spotlight is more than understandable. But the way Troy plays the long game and shows up for her is just everything.

I adored the way they both danced around their feelings, can’t get enough of the group text threads, and love catching up with the characters from prior books.

Pearl is amazing. And the way she and Rome immediately click is so endearing. His immediate desire to learn ASL to be able to communicate with her warmer my heart in the best way. Don’t even get me started on Sarina’s dad- best side character without a backstory for sure.

I can’t wait to see what is coming in the next book!

Green flag hottie for the win!!!!! Troy and Sarina are the sweetest couple I've read about in a while. Troy is every green flag ever flown while Sarina is guarded for all the right reasons. I absolutely love the representation of various medical conditions in this book. The emotions and situations throughout the story are perfectly written and definitely make me want more. I cannot wait for the next book in this series!!!

M.H. Swati did it again. This book is AMAZING!!! If I could give it more than 5 stars, I would. The chemistry between the characters, Troy and Sarina are just perfection. Of course, her naked cat is the hit of the salon and with Troy. 😉 The guy's chats are hilarious as always and then she added the girl's chats. Oh, my word! You won’t regret reading this book. If you love baseball romance, then this book is definitely for you. Also, if you loved the first book, it picks up right where it left off. I can’t wait for the next book in the series.

I adored this book. Swati never lets me down with her quirky feisty FMC's and her cinnamon roll MMCs, Laugh out loud text chats and yet extremely thoughtful stories... Her books are proof that you can laugh and cry all at the same time.

This book starts out with a one night stand- turned into a bit of a forced proximity. And as Serina realizes who Troy is, she realizes in order to have anything real with him, she's going to have to conquer her fears and past traumas/insecurities. The really precious parts are the way that they bond with each of their children. We've read single mom or single dad romances but having them both be single and bring this family dynamic together was really beautiful to watch.

We have all the friends from the past books, and they bring it when it comes to moments of truth, hilarious texts and loads of girl-talk. So without giving too much away here are a few moments that I loved that will stick with me.

Moments I loved:

He took the media heat off her in a really cute way.
All of their inside jokes and nicknames
The kids and how happy of a family they all were together
Snatch
Her Exes reckoning
Dean and his obsessiveness over Troy
Her grand gesture

Reasons to one click this book:
⚾️Baseball player MMC
⚾️Single mom x single dad
⚾️One-Night Stand
⚾️He coach's her son
⚾️Family Saga
⚾️He Falls first & HARD
⚾️Laugh out loud group chats
⚾️ASL representation

What can I say about this book but one word "Magnificent". Swati has again outdone herself with Pitch for Me. It's a MUST READ.

It's a Rom-Com that features a single mother with her son and single father with his deaf 4 year-old daughter. It's a perfect blended family story that I couldn't put down.

The MMC (Troy) is a man that is sweet, kind, caring and his interaction with his daughter (Pearl) is out of this world that I fell in love with him right away. He falls hard for the MFC (Sarina) and her son (Rome).

I have messaged the writer informing her that Troy is MINE and his daughter Pearl and how I will leave me husband for him.

I love how Sarina's growth happens throughout this book and her confidence comes out with Troy. She has a cat that is hate Troy and the things she does to get Troy in trouble is outstanding.

The group chat chapters with the guys is so funny (this group chat was introduced in her first book of this Series Pretend for Me). I loved that she created a group chat chapters with the girls as well and it's also so funny.

I highly recommend this book to everyone.

what can one say when they have read a fantastic love story. lots!
first off troy is my new book boyfriend. single dad to a deaf child. their connection is just what a parent should be.
Rina is strong and amazing. her past marriage taught her that she won't ever date an athlete. until she does.
this started as a one night stand in Colorado till one day she brings her son to a baseball game. and finds out the hardway who her one night stand is. the famous pitcher.
can I say he falls first. Rina is the perfect blend of a partner he was looking for. she fought the attraction. of course she does this is a romance after all.
this book is filled with knowledge of everything the author learned by research. authentic absolutely. I really can't find any cracks.
but the absolute best thing about this book the hilarious text conversations. from the clam jam to the schlongs of hens. this author knows how to make the reader sob one minute and laugh hysterical. yup it's one of those books. one that you won't forget for a long long time.

This book was full of so many fun and loving moments. Sarina and Troy meet in a random small town in Colorado and have one night together. She leaves thinking she'll never see him again, to her surprise, they run into each other again a month later back home in San Jose. He's the pitcher for the Blazers, the MLB team here BIL owns. When he's injured and becomes her son's baseball coach while healing, their pull is undeniable. Both still have an intense attraction to the other but she doesn't date professional athletes.
Troy does all he can to prove he's different and Sarina finally decides to be friends with benefits. Only both want more and their feelings grow stronger.
Troy showed her that she can open up and love someone again and trust in their love and support. She saw him for the man he is, not the baseball player.
The kids are so fun and cute, the banter between their friend groups, especially the group texts, were hilarious.

You might not know this yet but I am more than sure that you need some sports romcom in your life!

Not convinced?! Ok!
What if I add amazing tropes on top like single dad baseball player and single mom!
Or the fact that they had a one night stand but meet again through common friends?!!

Still not? Ok…
He falls first and hard, there is a naked cat involved, both kids are super cute and one of them is ALS representative… but also there is not one, but two group chats.. one for boys and one for girls! And we all know that group chats is + 1000 for a romcom in launch-out-loud category!

I loved how determined Troy was to help Rina to overcome her fear and become a better version of herself 🫠🫠- swoony all the way.

The duet narration by talented Simone Lewis and Stephan Dexter only highlighted both funny and emotional moments bringing this book to the next level!

Overall, great book and I highly recommend it!

The thing I don’t understand is how this gifted storyteller’s work isn’t in the hands of every single romance reader. I may be a little biased since I found her work with her debut, but I’ve watched her talent grow by leaps and bounds. I’ve been reading romance for decades – back to the earlier days of Roberts and Steele—and this one is head and shoulders above most everything that's out there.

One of the things I love about this series, each better than the last, is how it includes characters from the previous series. So we’ve never really had to say goodbye to them, all while finding new, unique characters to love. And love them you will.

Sarina, Troy, and their two little ones are supremely loveable. Sarina has quirks, a stubborn streak, and a ridiculous ex. She's also one of my all-time favorite FMCs because of her strength, compassion, and vulnerabilities. Troy is a baseball superstar with an endearing ego, surprising humility, and a huge capacity for love. Sarina's son, Rome, is brainy and hug-inducingly cute with surprising depths. And Troy's sweet little Pearl is freaking adorable and steals all the hearts.

In this equally hilarious and heartwarming romance, we also have a close-knit group of guys and gals, each with their own group chats, who add gut-busting, hilarious antics and a strong found family element. Add in spicy condiments, unusual footwear, a psychotic cat, and a furry declaration or two (IYKYK), and you ‘ll laugh until you cry. It's also bursting with emotion and a side of steam, all of it perfectly balanced for the most exhilarating, satisfying romance-reading ride.

If you were to ask me for one romance that can’t be missed, it's this one. One writer who is an absolute must read? This is that writer. A story with unforgettable characters who will live forever in your heart? It's Troy and Sarina's story. A romance that will put you through a wide array of whiplashing emotions and give you the best book hangover yet? Here it is. Seriously, just do yourself a favor and start reading this one today. Your romantic heart will be blissfully happy and satisfied, and you can thank me later.

I am voluntarily leaving this honest review after receiving an advance reader copy of the book.
Written in first person from an alternating dual POV, this can be read as a standalone and ends with a HEA.
Sarina is a wonderful person and a fantastic mother. I liked reading as her self-confidence grew with the force of Troy’s love for her. I adored the relationship she formed with little Pearl. Troy and Sarina had a chemistry that could not be denied. I appreciated Sarina’s attempt to friend zone the man, but it was a doomed effort. Seriously. Troy is such a wonderful MMC. He is a straight shooter from the get-go. He shows Sarina how he feels time and time again until she is ready to hear the words. The man falls fast and hard for her and it was a beautiful thing. The kids are fabulous. Little Rome was a character I wanted to just hug, especially when he decided to stand up for himself and assert his needs with his father. Pearl is just adorable cuteness. The relationship the kids formed with each other made me feel gooey inside.
I really appreciated the representation in this book. Between Sarina’s vitiligo and the wonderful ASL representation around Pearl, it had depth that I really appreciated. Romance, steam, humor, and wonderful characters: this book had it all. Add in hilarious group text chats and hairless cat shenanigans that made me laugh out loud, and you have a book you won’t want to miss.

This was such a cute and spicy baseball romance that I devoured! When Troy and Sarina first meet, they decide to pretend they are someone else and have an absolute banger of a one night stand. So when their real lives end up colliding later on, it seems like they are just meant to be in each other's orbit. But can Sarina get out of her own head to accept the love that Troy has to offer??

I adored this cute story and the banter between these two is hilarious! I am also in love with both of their children and how sweet they are together! And I think I laughed so hard every time Snatch was causing some mischief! Also, the group texts for both the men and women are absolutely laugh out loud funny!

What to expect:
⚾️Baseball player MMC
⚾️Single mom x single dad
⚾️He Falls first & HARD
⚾️Laugh out loud group chats
⚾️ASL representation

Thank you to Swati M.H for letting me read/review an ARC of this in exchange for my honest thoughts!

2.5 ⭐️. And that’s a bit generous. If you’ve never read a romance novel, you’d probably enjoy this. I’ve read hundreds and this was unoriginal in the extreme - the ridiculous animals, the overly sweet MMC, the men’s and women’s separate group text chats, the terrible ex fiance and ex-husband, superficial cute kids (including deaf representation), the absolutely terrible nicknames (Troy Trojan and Rina Spicymustard). Even the gay dad was reduced to a wild and insulting stereotype.

Don’t get me wrong - I love the inclusion of diversity in all of its forms; unless it feels performative or disingenuine. Then it’s just annoying and reductive.

- they are each in their early 30’s. They have a ONS and then serendipitously meet again when he gets injured and becomes her sons coach. Sarina doesn’t want to date a professional athlete bc her exhusband is a douchbag. But also, can we discuss - the MMC (Troy) was meant to marry someone else THE DAY he met her at the bar and they had a ONS. He literally shows up at the bar in the tuxedo he was going to get married in. And they didn’t get married bc SHE cheated on him and told him right before the wedding. Like whaaattt? This was the world’s worst set up. And then he’s magically and insta obsessed with her.
- third act breakup
- miscommunication - they communicate w each other, but she lies to herself about how much she cares about him; for a year.
- no OM/OW - they both remain celibate after their ONS until they get together.
- this is super spicy; to the point that I skimmed it.
- dual POV/engagement in epilogue.

After 60%, the story just seemed to go on and on. I skimmed the rest.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

Duet narration - Simone Lewis & Stephen Dexter
Absolutely amazing narration. They were wonderful at bringing this heartwarming story to life.

Serena is a single divorced mom of a 7 yr old who loves baseball. She is also a hairdresser at a salon with her sister and best friend. She has sworn off dating athletes as she wants to stay out of the public eye.

Troy is a hot baseball player who has a cute deaf 4 year old little girl that wins the hearts of everyone she meets. He’s a hopeless romantic at heart and has big feels for Serena after one hot night together.

Fake names, one night stand, reconnecting and falling for each other hard.

This is a heartwarming and amazing story. These characters were fantastically developed and their story is captivating.

Group texting is hilarious in this one!
I can not wait for book 3!

Sarina and Troy had a one night stand in another State so when he shows up in her orbit she is shocked! Their one night was pretty spectacular and Troy is all for a repeat. Sarina not so much. This is often hilarious and such a very fun read! This cast of characters are quite witty and oh so eager to help these two get together. So much fun!

Cute Concept, Mixed Execution

Pitch for Me had a lot of things going for it—a charming baseball player, and Swati M.H.’s signature humor. The setup was fun, and there were definitely moments that made me smile or swoon. The banter between the characters was entertaining, and the chemistry felt promising.

That said, the pacing was a bit uneven for me. Some parts felt rushed while others dragged, and I didn’t feel as emotionally connected to the characters as I hoped. The relationship development could have used a bit more depth to really hit those romantic high notes.

Still, it’s a light, easy read with some solid laughs and swoony moments. Fans of sports romance and fake dating tropes will likely still enjoy it—it just didn’t completely knock it out of the park for me.

So i have to say it!! Swati M.H is the QUEEN of Rom-Com, i honestly haven’t laughed so much in a book than i have with this author! Her writing is just flawless, you feel sucked into the book instantly and don’t come back for air until you’re bladders overly full or you’re absolutely parched! Round of applause to you lady, i am in awe of your work.

So if you read Pretend for Me you already seen the little awkward interaction with these two at Troys baseball game and you’ve already met Sarina, she co-owns Haircuts & Heartthrobs with her sister Nisha & best friend Piper (my soul sista) she also has her own little side hustle doing women’s hair on the side & travels all the way to Colorado to do Bridezilla’s hair, after the absolute nightmare of a woman she had to endure, she goes to a local bar to let off steam. A little later who storms in? Mr Tall Blonde & Sexy, all disheveled and looking solemn. They both decide to give false personas & to be someone else entirely just for one night, let me introduce *insert drumroll* Miss Rina Spicymustard & Mr Troy Trojan, they then proceed to have the hottest night of their lives (which we don’t get to see btw, not angry… just disappointed 😉 through the night Sarina wakes up to find Troys phone buzzing, the name makes her still, why is Mrs Bridezilla calling him? But then it clicks, because OF COURSE she slept with the groom!!!

Fast forward a month or so, Troy has an injury which results in a year off playing baseball so he decides he’ll help his dad on coaching his little league team, which Rina very soon finds out after rushing her son Rome to not realising she has left her hilarious slippers on, yet that doesn’t deter Troy, he has his sights set on her, she’s all he has been able to think about since that night, but Rina has been hurt before, she’s had toxic athlete exes and keeps her walls up, she doesn’t want to go down that road again, it took her so long to get back to herself. So she tells him they can be friends, she meets Troys daughter Pearl and instantly falls in love, Pearl is deaf but Sarina knows ASL as her her mother was also deaf when she was alive, their connection is instant as is the same with Troy & Rome. Later we see Sarina then amends that previous statement to friends with benefits, because that sexual tension was ON FIRE, and so was i! I mean wow, these guys 🥵 but obviously we all know how FWB turns out, to luuuuuuurving each other. But with Troy returning back to the MLB and Sarina never wanting that spotlight, it’s only set to end in heartbreak… or is it?

Okay, firstly.. HOLY HOT STUFF, Troy, my sweet, loving, patient, beautiful, sexy, Troy! What an absolute beauty he was, throughout that whole book he was patient with Sarina not wanting to scare her off & wanting her to decide she wants him in her own time! Even agreeing to the FWB situation, he done it hoping it would end with them being together, he was never serious about that sitch! He was a beautiful human & an amazing dad to Pearl, i loved watching their connection! And watching his new friendship grow with Dev, Hudson & the Meyer brothers (especially Dean, his biggest fan) was really nice, i loved watching that friendship grow, and you can never beat their group chats, they have me near peeing my pants! Oh and we now have a new one, the girls have created their own - The Clam Jams, and with my girl Piper in there, they are just as funny! Okay maybe no one can beat Deans antics, but still funny. Anyway where was i? Oh yeah, and secondly.. Sarina was inspiring, she was such a good mum to Rome, i loved how she stood up to her a*shole ex for him, no matter how he treated her in the past she was not letting anything affect her son, loved how she let Rome make his own decisions and helped guide him the best way she can, & the beautiful relationship she had with Pearl. And finally, how Sarina and Troy were together, i loved their banter, loved how much they cared for one another & how Sarina finally realised that Troy was IT for her, i mean finally girl, go get your mannn! & thats what she did, in the best of ways 🤣

Pitch for Me is a heartwarming and emotionally layered romance that beautifully explores second chances, emotional healing, and the courage it takes to trust again. Swati M.H. crafts a powerful story of two people from very different worlds, brought together by fate, family, and a love that sneaks in when they least expect it. Sarina Arora is a resilient single mother who owns a thriving salon in California with her sister and best friend. She’s a woman who has lived through the storm of an emotionally abusive marriage to a pro golfer, coming out stronger for the sake of her son, Rome. Sarina has sworn off professional athletes and the spotlight and heartbreak that come with them. But when she meets a strikingly handsome stranger at a wedding in Colorado and shares one unforgettable night with him, she doesn’t expect to ever see him again. Troy Winters, a star pitcher for the Bay Area Blazers, is no stranger to heartbreak himself. Left at the altar and raising his deaf daughter Pearl alone, Troy has built a life around his sport and his devotion to his child. When he’s unexpectedly reunited with Sarina at a Blazers game, he knows she remembers him, but is avoiding him for some reason. When he and Pearl visit her salon for a haircut, Sarina surprises him by signing to his daughter. As an injury sidelines his career, Troy finds himself coaching Rome’s baseball team and spending more time with Sarina. The chemistry between them is undeniable, but Sarina struggles to let her guard down. She’s been burned before by a man who tore down her self-worth and dragged her through the relentless scrutiny of public life. Her trust doesn’t come easily. But Troy isn’t like her ex, he’s gentle, grounded, and fiercely devoted to his daughter. And slowly, he begins to prove that not all athletes are the same. As Troy breaks down Sarina’s walls, will she relent and realize she wants Troy as much as he wants her.

Troy is a deeply relatable MMC. His love for Pearl and his desire to be the best father he can be is heart-melting. He’s a man navigating single parenthood, public expectations, and the constant pressure of professional sports, all while trying to build a real, stable life for his daughter. Sarina, on the other hand, is a woman many readers will see themselves in, strong, self-sacrificing, and carrying the emotional scars of a relationship that made her question her worth. Her journey to self-love, acceptance, and learning to trust again is powerful and authentic.

In conclusion I gave this book 5 stars, as this story isn’t just about falling in love, it’s about rebuilding, redefining your future, and realizing that your past doesn’t have to determine your worth or your happiness. Pitch for Me is a touching reminder that love, when rooted in respect and understanding, can heal even the deepest wounds. Swati M.H. delivers a romance full of heart, realness, and emotional vulnerability. With layered characters, authentic struggles, and a tender message of hope, Pitch for Me is a standout story of healing, resilience, and the beauty of unexpected love.
