Celestial Vixens: Champion of the Cards

Rate this book
If you ask me, Celestial Vixens is the best card game in the world, and I’m ready to win the state tournament and move closer to becoming the national champion.

Everything was going my way until an FBI agent approached me after the tournament with a job offer. She says I have something called The Sight, but I’ve just spent a decade and a half learning the game and practicing.

I just want to play my game and be the best, but then everything gets even more complicated and messy when the Russian mob gets involved.

Strong start to a series. It was not fantastical in the usual harem stories with this sort of setup. Grounded in a deeply designed card game and the characters who are potential love interests are interesting. The MC doesn't feel to be too OP even when playing cards and is using his "superpower." Looking forward to the next book in the series.

A deck-building litRPG is a must! I just wanted Magic in the game.

I LOVE deck-building genre. So grabbing this book was a no-brainer. I my fingers and hoped that it wasn't a harem novel. You never know with a title like that. Turns out Celestial Vixens is the deck/game that Parker is playing... it's a turn based game (not my favorite style, but ce la vie, I'll take it.) I would'a liked to see a little more magic in the game play too. I guess Parker's ability to foresee the future is magical. After winning the regional championship Parker has his sites on the state challenge. Only the FBI steps in giving him an offer he prolly shouldn't refuse, then he's kidnapped.
Wait! Wa... yah really otta grab the book to see how Parker, the FBI, and the Russian Mafia play the game...

An intriguing series

Definitely an intriguing start to what I'm hoping might be an interesting series.

As per the title, the book follows Parker as he plays his way through city and state championships of his favorite card game, Celestial Vixens.
But when the FBI and Russian Mafia both show up claiming Parker has some mystical ability called "The Sight" and want to recruit him or kidnap him, things get weird.
Especially when all Parker wants to do is play CV and win.

Definitely looking forward to a second book in this series, but wish there was a bit more in depth dive into this mysterious ability and how it's supposed to work.
Guess I'll keep reading to see if I find out!

You've Convinced Me

When I read the description for this book I was a bit skeptical. It didn't seem like the kind of story I would enjoy. But I decided to read a few chapters to get a feel for it. I wound up loving it way more than I thought I would. Can't wait for the next vook to come out!

DNF - Wow this is a bad book. The character is actively unlikable and for an introduction based around a card game the game seems both poorly explained and contradictory. In the opening match the rules are explained and less than a page later behave differently, as are the descriptions of what the cards do.

Don’t waste your time. Read Slumdog Deckbuilder instead if you want a good card book.

Counting cards or second sight, usually isn't for a fantasy card game so why Russians?

Really fun read

It was a really fun read and logan jacobs seemed to find a way to make card games stressful which in and of itself is kind of amazing. It's worth the time sink.
