The Book of Bones (Harvey Bennett Thrillers 7) - a review by Rosemary Kenny
The Greek philosopher Plato's long-lost tome on the fall of Atlantis is the prize in a deadly game of cat-and-mouse between rival terrorist groups, in Nick Thacker's excellent archeological mystery-thriller, The Book of Bones, Book 7 in his Harvey Bennett Thrillers series.
MCs Harvey Bennett and Julia must beat off all rivals to attain the eponymous Book, rescue their friend Reggie - held hostage against Bennett's success - oh, and stay alive at the same time! Needless to say, it's a perilous quest and the perils come thick and fast enough to make your heart almost stop as you're so breathless with the tension and excitement of this great story. What's so special about the Book of Bones? What hidden powers will it bestow on its possessor? Seek out the hidden truths within at your local bookstore, crusader and behold, all will be revealed!
A well written book with characters from other books in the series. The action carried throughout each chapter and was easy to follow. I did find some places were too wordy but all in all, a good read.
Another well written story, with an old face reappearing and splitting the team. Sometimes it felt that the two parts, running in stereo, were running at different speeds but it all came together nicely. Suprise at the end too. Hope the next book is as good.
The Book of Bones features the return of the Hawk and ups the ante on peril for the team. The action takes place in Alaska, Italy or Peru and the journeys in between and the story is again focused on an ancient population that may be the Atlantic's or possibly even older as the Nephilim. We also find out more about the waring factions after the book, the Temple of Solomon, and another potential location for the Hall of Records. However, one criticism is the urgency over tracking down those behind the experiments in the Aryan Agenda - only 2 months until the next phase of their plan - is not really adequately addressed. I still can' t wait to read the Cain Conspiracy though!
She rode shotgun "though she was carrying a massively upgraded version of the Old West's description of a shotgun" ... Mercenaries were paid based on the number of projects undertaken "and an overall quantitative assessment..." We must follow in the path of the ferry because then we can make better time than the ferry... They will shoot "on site," or perhaps "on sight?" The author certainly doesn't know. At least there was eventually a "surprised attack."
The Book of Bones is typical of Nick Thacker: it glues you to your chair with nail biting action, despicable villains, plots that have more twists than a nest of vipers! A love story, humor, and characters you come to love. Thanks Nick. During this time of pandemic quarantine your books beat the angst and boredom.
This book again started out slower than I liked but it kept building in intensity as the players kept popping up. Harvey (Ben) was His usually docile self until he got riled up. Julie was the heroine again but the surprises kept coming until the very end. Read it and enjoy.
Nick Thacker has done it again. Thrills, kills and archeoloically packed with bonus biblical notations galore. Makes you wonder IF there is something to it. Quiet possibly as myth and lore had to have come from hard reality. Research, theory and embellishment mind bending; awesome! PottsvillePA_01182021.
Ben and Julie make a great couple both professionally and personally. Neither are afraid of going all out to help or save someone. This time they have two friends they need to rescue from Garza and a college professor from a fraction of the Masons. This is non-stop action. Great job. Thank you.
This book is definitely a page turner. It has a interesting twist . Who would ever think to write about biblical giants? This book has plenty of action, romance and even a forever wicked villain. Its a fun read. Entertained me for a few late nights. Good job Nick Thacker!
Since I have found Nick Thacker s books I have really enjoyed his Harvey Bennett series. I like the adventures of the CSO team.. The only thing I don't like is the Amazon only will sell you the Kendall Version of the last few books in the series. It is not right I feel like they are forcing me to get a Kendall and I will not. I hope Mr. Thacker reads this and changes them on this.
Great read. What a wonderful mystery with Red & Sarah being kidnapped and held ransom for The Book of Bones. Well the culprit again is "The Hawk" and the team of 3,Ben. Julia and Archie, with no idea where they are. The team starts with Spain and Italy. No good results. Then storyline will make you want to stay up all night to finish it.
This was another good adventure novel by this author. However, it contains an overwhelming number of typos that are very annoying and should have been addressed prior to publication. I assume that in a rush to go to print, the author did not proofread his work accordingly. I hope this does not hold true for the remainder of this series.
I didn’t know there were that many ways to almost die! Harvey Bennett and the CSO team continue to fight bad guys and get themselves into situations that are harmful. The story goes from Greece to Egypt to Alaska to Peru and back. Always a fun read!
What I like about these adventures with Ben is the history of the world inserted in the plot of the story. Yes sometimes the plot is far fetched but it is also exciting.
This is an excellent series that continues to impress. This time, events find our team split, with Ben and Julie desperate to find Reggie and Sarah. If you enjoy Kevin Tumlinson and AG Riddle you’ll love this series.
Fast moving thriller involving the Catholic Church, Masons, historians etc trying to create and others trying to disrupt the development of a superior human species of giants.
Ben and Julie, Reggie and Sarah, will they ever slow down? From the Vatican to Peru's jungles. Ancient temples and secretive societies abound. Their adventures encompass millennia and keep me guessing. More please!
Good story. Finally stopped rushing the ending. This was satisfying. However, lost 2 stars because no one proofread the book - missing words, bad grammar, sentences without verbs. These things really brought the reading experience down.
Harvey 'Ben' Bennett and his fiance Juliet are again tangled in something they don't quite understand, but that doesn't stop them from going headlong into the fray. Read this exciting novel to find out who comes out in the end.
Adventure, action, plenty of characters (good and bad), stories within stories and surprises at almost every page - what is there not to like. Keep 'em coming Nick!
This was a great addition to the Harvey Bennet series, this one had a bit more violence in it but it was full of excitement and suspense. There is very little profanity and I've enjoyed the series.
