Staying Alive is the disappointing 1983 sequel to the 1977 classic Saturday Night Fever. The movie is filled with bad performances, mediocre direction by Sylvester Stallone and a poorly written screenplay by Stallone and Norman Wexler. Despite its many flaws, Staying Alive is an enjoyable if silly movie. Knowing that the screenplay was one of the movie's greatest weaknesses, I was doubtful of the novelization, which turned out to be as forgettable as I expected. Leonore Fleischer is no stranger to novelizations having written quite a few good ones, most notably Fame and Ice Castles. However, not even a writer of Fleischer's talent could have made a good book out of the mess that is Stallone and Wexler's screenplay.

So some of it wasn't written well and it had a few spelling mistakes here and there... so what?! It was all wrapped up nicely and ended well.

This book was an easy read.

I read the entire thing in the voice of Rocky Balboa as the language used was so like him 'Hey Jackie!'

He seemed to grow up fast and with very little encouragement. I'm glad he decided to show the world his stuff!

I don't think that Jackie is Tony's true love. I believe that they're best friends who will make it work.

I wouldn't trust Tony at all if he were my fella...
