I am very torn about this book. On the one hand, it is a short, hot taboo story that becomes very sweet towards the end. But then it consists entirely of inner monologues, which are honestly quite monotonous.
Of course, you don't read this kind of story and expect a huge plot and profound conversations or anything like that.
It's smut with a little bit of swooning.
But even there, I think I've read better.
The water sports kink didn't do it for me in this book. I think it's the wrong direction this particular kink takes in this book for me. But that's not a big deal, you can't like everything.
I had hoped that the relationship between the twins would have more impact, that it would be much sweeter and more unique. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case.
Both characters are far too stuck in their own heads, and you don't get to see enough interaction between them.
It's a good book, but unfortunately it didn't win me over, sorry.
I like the stuff that’s about holding it in until you’re about to burst, and then that huge release. There’s a power thing there as well. This was so much angstier than I expected it to be. Which is okay, except we only got like 2 pages of the happy ending and resolution of the angst before the book was over. I know it’s a novella, but that’s super disappointing. I’ve worked hard for that happy ending, don’t cut my reward short! Still, this was well written, and I really loved the bond and support and codependency between the MCs, so I can’t rate it toooo low.
I think I’ll always compare any taboo book to The Air That I Breathe by Cara Dee, which is destined to be my favorite of all time. In TATIB, I love that River and Reese are always just trying to get closer to each other and the sex is a manifestation of how much they love and rely on each other. Using an injury as a device to facilitate and excuse the sex made it feel less romantic and sweet, which I definitely felt while reading the book. Alas, this was good, just didn’t 100% wow me.
