From the wild Carpathian forests of their homeland, to the murky streets of 18th century Paris, to the craziness of swinging 1970s London, the Auguste family has been hunted by their enemies. Enemies who are undying, implacable and who do not forget.
Lost among the great old trees of those same forests that gave rise to the Augustes, James Caswell meets Polly Margrave, who is trying to find traces of that ancient family lost to time. A family who, legend says, practised magical rituals and drank human blood. Historical research was not supposed to be this dangerous. Perhaps the Augustes do not want to be found.
I am a retired software engineer, I love the countryside, wildlife and of course reading and writing. I lived with a cat for many years and have not been able to bring myself to get another since he passed, but I do have a flock of magpies that dance on my roof and wake me up every morning.
DNF at 40%. This book is written like unending stream of consciousness. Tack on to that, telling instead of showing and its a recipe for my eyes glazing over. This book doesn't have descriptions, it has explanations. The worldbuilding is force fed to you over and over again, its not an organic absorption. The concept is very interesting and in better hands, could have been a hit.
was pleasantly surprised by this book, was a real page turner that built a world of vampires with a twist, time jumps allowed for a backstory to be created for the characters. would definitely be interested in a follow up
