Greatest Love #5

Their Greatest Strength

Rate this book
The final book in Hannah Cowan's best selling Greatest Love series!

I’ve been tackled by defensive linemen twice my size and sprinted into end zones with thousands of fans screaming my name, but nothing—and I mean nothing—could’ve prepared me for Blakely.

I should have known from the first time we met that she’d change everything for me. How could she not? A woman bold enough to break into my house and attempt to steal from me isn’t exactly someone you forget and move on from.

So, when I’m asked, or told, to find a wife, I know it has to be her.

That’s supposed to be all it is. She needs somewhere to live, and I need the headlines. But what starts as a simple arrangement quickly becomes something far more complicated. Blakely is guarded, unpredictable, and protective of those she loves. The more time I spend with her, the more I realize this isn’t about my career anymore.

With just two months on the clock, can I break down her walls before she breaks my heart?

I should have DNF’d this book ages ago. I mean, I should know that if I start a book in April and it’s suddenly November and I’m still trying to finish it, I’m just not vibing with it, and I should probably put it down. But I felt bad because I originally got it as an ARC, and I wanted to finish it, so I kept pushing. The problem is… me and this book just didn’t gel. It felt like I was doing one puzzle, the book was doing another, and somehow we were both trying to form the same picture, which was impossible...

𝙎𝙮𝙣𝙤𝙥𝙨𝙞𝙨:
So, our girl Blakely gets fired from her job and, on the way home, she stumbles into this neighbourhood and finds a door wide open. She’s worried the person might be hurt or that something’s wrong inside, so in an effort to help, she goes in, doesn’t find anyone, and then decides she’s going to try to steal an Xbox because her brother would really like one and they’re struggling financially. While she’s about to leave with the Xbox, the owner catches her. He also happens to be standing in a towel, and she basically gets the hell out of there without the Xbox. But this man, Jamie, can’t stop thinking about the bandit he found while half-naked. He also happens to be a pro Canadian football player. Now Jamie needs to find a wife pretty fast to increase publicity for the team (and apparently, having a wife will solve that?), and he cannot stop thinking about his Bandit. So as luck would have it, when he’s out signing shoes at a Foot Locker, he runs into his bandit, and realises this is the perfect opportunity: let me make my wannabe thief my wife. Since Blakely needs money, the wannabe thief and her baby, not-so-baby brother, move in, and the two now have to cohabitate and pretend that they love each other and make goo-goo eyes at each other. And obviously, when people pretend to make goo-goo eyes at each other, real goo-goo eyes develop, and the story goes from there.

𝙏𝙝𝙤𝙪𝙜𝙝𝙩𝙨 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙁𝙚𝙚𝙡𝙞𝙣𝙜𝙨:
Now… I like Blakely, and I like Jamie. But the issue is my main problem with this wasn’t Jamie or Blakely’s characters. Blakely is very much a "poor girl" who is just trying to make the best of her situation. She's been forced to grow up really quickly because of her circumstances, and she just has to survive and make do. That kind of upbringing hardens a person because they don’t have it easy, so she’s very closed off initially, skittish and sceptical of Jamie’s intentions, and just wants this contract seen through so she can make a better life for her baby brother, because that is her main goal.

Jamie is instantly, right from the start, a simp. Like the biggest simp. MAJOR instalove vibes. He is instantly obsessed with everything Blakely, full-on love at first sight, and he remains that way for the rest of the story.

My main problem with the two of them is that I didn’t buy their love story. I didn’t see their attraction. I didn’t see how these two were meant to be together because there was no chemistry between them. It took ages and ages and ages for it to develop (even though JAMIE WAS OBSESSED FROM THE START) . It was so slow-moving, and I had no investment in watching these two fall in love because their story was boring. I didn’t want to pick this up and listen to the end because these characters didn’t draw me in, and like nothing was really happening... There was nothing about them or their relationship that made them special to me.

That REALLY upsets me because I enjoyed the other books I have read in this series, and I thought this book would be the same, but it just wasn’t. I don’t know, maybe it was because I took so long to listen to it. Maybe I was just not vibing it. But something about this one didn’t sit with me. I felt like the climax was too easy and predictable, I felt like the "struggles" they went through were too simple, and...

I think this might just be my new favourite of the entire series!

Jamie completely won me over, he’s loyal, kind, honest and confident. I loved the way he made the best of a situation that was thrown at him and just rolled with it. The meet-cute felt a little far-fetched to me, but honestly, only Jamie could have pulled it off.

Blakeley is a character I really respect. She doesn’t trust easily, carrying abandonment issues that could have easily kept her closed off. But Jamie patiently shows her, over and over, that he’ll do anything for her (and for Nate) until her walls finally come down. Watching that unfold was so rewarding.

And then there’s Nate, so sweet and such a great addition to the story. His bond with his sister added so much heart, and I loved how he gradually became a “mini Jamie.” It was adorable and made the ending feel especially full-circle.

Overall, a heartfelt and satisfying read that gave me everything I love about this series and then some.

Saying goodbye to this series has me so emotional but it’s only fitting that we end off (👀🤭) with the most charming GL character, Jamieson ‘my wife’ Bateman. You guys, this man has me down BAD and I’ll simply never get over him. The way he falls head over heels immediately for Blakely and just wants to shower her with the love she deserves is everything and more. Jamie is known for being the goofy guy in the other books but seeing how protective he is over his family and seeing how much he loves his job and teammates makes him so much more of a loveable character.

Now for my grumpy girl Blakely. This girl is SASSY and I don’t think I could love her more. The way she loves and fearlessly protects her brother,Nate, is so true to how all (at least speaking for myself) big sisters act and I related to her so much with it. She has the biggest heart and seeing her let her walls down and accept Jamie’s help and love had me screaming from the rooftops.

And the Bateman / Hutton era has come to an end with Jamie and Blakley’s (somewhat) unconventional love story. I’m so sad this series is over, it’s produced one of my top reads of all time and Hannah is just the nicest person ever!

Jamie is the epitome of his mother; he is sunshine in a wide receivers body. He is loyal, kind, honest and confident. He is the product of his environment that is for damn sure. His story was a unique one, but it honestly suited his character. He took his team’s proposal in his stride and made the most of the situation. I did feel like he and Blakley’s meet cute was a little far fetched, but only Jamie Bateman could have no qualms with everything that went down.

I really admired Blakley’s character. Yes, she doesn’t trust easily and she has abandonment issues out the wahzoo but in steps Jamie; a man who will do whatever it takes to get to know her (and her brother), break down her walls and ensure wholeheartedly that she knows her worth. Their connection was pretty instantaneous and their banter was so easy. It quickly turned flirty which I loved, and added to the tension between them. Talk about a slow burn 🔥 🥵 Blakley’s relationship with her brother was so sweet; I loved how close they were. Nate was such a mini Jamie, and I hope that we get his story someday!

The thing I love the most about this series is the family. They are all so close. The kids are the epitome of their parents and it really does feel like catching up with old friends. I loved all the cameos, and how this big ol bunch embraced Blakley and Nate, too.

Add to your tbr if you like:
- CFL romance
- golden retriever x black cat
- single guardian FMC
- he falls first (and so hard)

Reading a Hannah Cowan book is like coming home. It’s warm and all-consuming. I don’t think I’ll ever stop thinking about this book! Dare I say, it’s taken over Lucky Hit as my favourite book?! Marriage of convenience is one of my favourite, if not my favourite, trope and boy did this book do it justice! I just loved everything about it, and never wanted it to end.

Jamie just oozes charisma, sorry Oakley but I think he’s dethroned you as my fav HC MMC. All of Hannah’s men are to die for, but Jamie is so thoughtful and caring. His heart of gold and ability to read Blakely is so endearing. And his relationship with Nate, it’s everything.

Speaking of Nate, I love a single guardian trope, it will do it for me every time. He’s so well spoken and in tune with everything around him at 15 years old. His relationship with Blakely is so special.

Blakely is unbelievably strong and selfless. She puts everyone else first and seeing her being taken care of (and learning how to let herself be taken care of) was wonderful.

I also thoroughly enjoyed the family/found family throughout this book. The dynamics between old and new characters is something I always look forward to in Hannah’s books. You can feel the love between the Bateman’s so much while reading.

Thank you so much Hannah for the ARC copy! As always all opinions are entirely my own.

the final book in the ‘Greatest Love’ series.
It’s always so bittersweet finishing one of your favorite series🥹💖

Jamieson Bateman is “my wife” coded. if you love that trope.. this is your next favorite book. he is a man who wants what he wants and that’s Blakely, but shes our grumpy gal so she doesn’t make it too easy.. at first. Jamie has a heart of gold. i adore him so fkn much.

Blakely is easily my second favorite FMC by hannah cowan (bryce is my main gal🤭) i see so much of myself in her. especially with the way she takes care of her brother Nate. I’ve been in the same position as her. she’s such a badass in so many ways. i’m in love.

this book will get you hooked from the first page and prepare to have your heartstrings pulled by the relationship between Jamie and Nate😭😭

hannah will forever be one of my favorite authors and i’m so proud of her for each new release, she writes absolute perfection every single time.

Welp, Noah Hutton officially has to share his number one spot with someone. Jameison Bateman is the simp we all need in our lives.

I'm obsessed with these two - Jamie was the definition of a cinnamon roll and was down bad for his girl. I love how protective and caring he was of not only Blakely, but her brother Nate. He kept referring to them as his family and it had my heart melting every. single. time.

Blakely is one of my favorite Hannah FMCs written to date. She was an independent spitfire, who didn't need a man's help to get her the things she needed for her and her brother. But Jamie comes along and changes her world around. Blakely's character development is incredible throughout the book. I love how she learns to lean on Jamie for the hard things.

THE BANTER. Let's take a moment for the back and forth between these two because it was TOP TIER. The way Blakely gives it to him and he gives it right back is *chefs kiss*.

I'm so sad that this era has finally come to an end. The Hutton and Bateman clan will always go down as one of my favorites.

saying goodbye to this series makes me so emosh. I can't believe this series started my obsession with the HC and all the books she has written. i absolutely enjoyed every single minute of this book and might have destroyed it in less than two days....anyway.

first of all I totally recommend reading the lucky-hit series and then this one (but hannah does such an amazing job at not making you lost when you read out of order) just for funsies.

jamieson bateman my god this man he wears his heart on his sleeve and truly lives life at his fullest. blakely on the other hand is fully guarded but can't resist the tempation that is a Bateman man (same babe). their meet cute had me DYINGGG but also the way fate (or hannah) just had a part in their continuous meetings was so darn cute. one of my favorite parts of this whole series is the found family aspect and that's all i'll say jiji

tropes:
engagement/marriage of convenience
forced proximity
grumpy x sunshine
she tries to rob him
slow burn
single guardian
my. wife.
found family

go enjoy yall and thank you hannah for the arc (love you queen)

I don’t even know where to begin……
This was the most perfect ending to the Greatest Love series. Jamieson and Blakely are truly everything.
I was laughing and crying throughout the entire book. Blakely is relatable in the “I can do it myself” mentality and Jamison is such a simp but in the most caring respectful way!
I just loved everything about it and I can’t wait for others to read their story 💕

4.5 stars - This was a fun marriage of convenience story between Jamie and Blakely! The reason for the marriage was a reach, but it served its purpose for the story.

These two were the epitome of sunshine/grump, with Jamie being one of the sweetest heroes the author has written! I admired Blakely’s drive to care for her brother and doing what she needed to do in order to set them up for success, even if it meant marrying the person whose house you tried to rob (lmao). I adored Jamie’s steadfast love for Blakely and her brother because after their past, they needed someone like Jamie who only knows how to love unconditionally.

The nostalgia hit home as we got to see the families/couples from this series and the OG series. I’m a sucker for found family/next-gen series, and the author has done a great job with creating that vibe!

Jamie!! You gave Oakley a run for his top spot in my HC rankings, he was pure perfection. He was sweet, funny, and gave Blakely the BEST nickname.

I love a good fake dating situation, and with the playful banter and ease of their relationship it made this read so enjoyable. They made me smile nonstop.

Blakely is a protector, and will do whatever it takes for her younger brother. Life wasn’t easy on her, but she persevered in spite of it.
Jamie was just so damn happy and willing to go beyond expectations without hesitation. The dynamic with her brother made my heart swoon. Every time he dropped her nickname, swoon. He’s a dream 🫶🏼

OMG I can’t believe it’s the end of an era!! 😭😭 This whole series, these families, I love them so much! They have my entire heart!

This is the final book in Hannah’s Greatest Love Series and she really saved the best for last. The chemistry between Jamieson and Blakely was immaculate. They literally had me grinning like a fool the entire time I was reading with their banter.

I loved Jamie’s goofy personality. And he was all in at the jump with Blakely and when he dropped the “my wife” I was a puddle. 🫠🫠
Blakely might be my favorite FMC Hannah has ever written. She is so sassy and will do anything for her brother. I felt for her so hard. 🩷

Literally will always be one of my all time favorite series and will forever recommend. I cannot wait to see what Hannah brings us next. I will say though there are some characters stories I would like to see that were in this one! 👀

No, I'm not ready to say goodbye.
Yes, this book was perfect.

When Hannah Cowan said fake marriage, he falls first, and that we were getting Jamie's story, I basically already knew I was going to love it. And then I read it and realized i underestimated how perfect it would be. Jamie and Blakely had so much tension and chemistry, and when Hannah writes heat, well I melt from how hot it is

✨ Football Romance
✨ Marriage of Convenience

This golden retriever football boy was so down bad for her, like so down bad. The moment her caught her accidentally trying to rob him, he knew what he wanted. And when he needed a fake wife, he knew just the right girl. And for a slow burn, this thing was heating up my page. The tension between these two was so good.

Also, single guardian hits my heart everytime, and the relationship between Nate and Jamie was just as good as Jaime and Blakely.

I'm not ready to leave this world at all, but this was the absolute best ending I could have asked for.

This was the perfect ending to Hannah’s Greatest Love series! Jamie quickly became my favorite Hannah MMC. He is a super swoony golden retriever and is the sweetest man.
Blakely is the guardian of her 15 year old brother Nate. She recently lost her job and when she’s on a walk to clear her head, she just happens upon a house with an open door. That door happens to be Jamie’s and he is drawn to her from their first encounter. When they run into each other a second time, Jamie proposes a solution for Blakely’s money problems that will also help Jamie’s CFL team get some good publicity. All Blakely has to do is marry Jamie and stay married for three months, easy right? Jamie is so sweet and thoughtful, it isn’t long until Blakely is falling for him.
The banter between these two is top tier! Blakely is independent and fierce. She really makes Jamie work for it but he loves everything about her and would do anything for Blakely and Nate. One thing about Hannah Cowan is that she knows how to write the spice! Some of the scenes had me sweating!!
I loved how all the previous characters from the series were heavily featured. It’s so sad to say goodbye but this was the perfect ending!

Me 🤝🏾 Hannah’s Books

Their Greatest Strength follows the second bateman brother jamieson, and Blakely both who enter a marriage of convenience that turns into something so much more.

The ending of this series is seriously bittersweet, but this was such a perfect conclusion. I’m always obsessed with everything Hannah writes, but this series holds such a special place in my heart.
Jamieson Bateman, the man that you are! When I say I LOVE THIS MAN, I mean it with every ounce of my being. And Blakely she’s hilarious and hands down the best girl. Her ability to give Jamie a run for his money had me dying 😂 She had him wrapped around her finger, and I loved every moment of it.

There’s so much within this book but there’s also talks about important topics like handling losing a parent, drug abuse and overdose all topics I believe hannah handled with such sensitivity and understanding.

The perfect ending to an unforgettable series 💚

Their Greatest Strength includes:
- Fake it ‘til you make it (AKA marriage of convenience)
- Forced proximity (we love this trope!)
- Slow burn (definitely worth the wait)
- Single parent vibes (she’s his guardian)
- My. Wife. (always an iconic moment)
- Found family (is it a hannah book if it doesn’t have this)

Thank you to NetGalley and Tantor Audio for the opportunity to listen to this audiobook!

If you love instalove and marriage of convenience, this one is for you! The story delivers on swoon-worthy moments and a fast-paced romance that will capture fans of these tropes.

While instalove isn’t my personal favorite, I appreciated the unique spin on how the characters met. However, I did find certain aspects of the setup a bit hard to connect with—like our heroine entering a stranger’s home, assuming it had been robbed, and then contemplating taking something herself. It was a bold choice for her character, though it felt a little far-fetched for me.

That said, her devotion to her younger brother was incredibly sweet, and her desire to give him everything he deserved was heartwarming. However, some of her financial decisions—like prioritizing new cleats over rent—were tough for me to overlook.

Overall, this book offers a whirlwind romance with heartfelt moments, perfect for readers who enjoy an ultra-fast connection between characters. While it wasn’t quite for me, fans of low-angst, sweet romance with a touch of unconventional charm may find a lot to love here!

Thank you to Hannah Cowan, RBmedia and NetGalley for giving me early access to this book.

Jumping into a series at book five? Oops—but honestly, This book still pulled me in with no trouble. Think it’s an actual standalone, which is great. The cast was fantastic, bringing so much life to the characters. A forced marriage setup? Say less, I was invested. Watching the characters go from having nothing to having everything—paired with all that tension and desperation? I devoured it. And despite the intensity, this story had such a wholesome core. Cute, captivating, and full of heat—definitely worth the read!

What a way to end the greatest love series. Hannah left the best for last. Blakely & Jamie were hands down perfect. Jamie the sweet golden retriever falls hard and quick for the girl he enters an arrangement with. Poor Blakely has had it bad & has provided for her younger brother the best way she can.

This book is a delicious slow burn with perfect spice. Jamie is now one of my favorite green flagged book boyfriends

I love a wife guy, and this one was smitten from the start. He took one look at his girl, and there was no turning back after that. The quirky meet cute was fun, the marriage of convenience was a win, and the roommates scenario won me over. It’s like the tropes were custom made me for me, and that made this an easy, devourable read. I can’t quite put my finger on why I didn’t completely love it, except that the storyline might’ve been a little too low angst and aligned with the usual progression of the tropes. I binged the first 60-70% in one sitting and then lost interest, since I was confident I knew where things were going. That’s more of a me problem than the book’s problem though - this will certainly satisfy that light and swoony craving.

The story follows Jamie, a pro football player from a famous family. When the team begins to struggle, PR encourages him to enter into a fake relationship with a fan to get some positive attention. After an unexpected encounter with Blakely, Jamie knows she’s the perfect girl for the job. She’s the guardian of her teenage brother, a promising football player who is a huge fan. There’s also something about Blakely that reels Jamie in from the start, and faking a relationship - while living together - makes everything feel even more real. But Blakely has been hurt in the past, and she’s hesitant to believe that Jamie is in it for keeps.

I’ve been meaning to try Cowan’s work for a while now, and the tropes in this were just impossible to resist. Yes, it’s the final book in a series and will likely be more impactful for longtime fans, but I had no trouble reading it as a standalone. Jamie and Blakely have great chemistry, and I loved that Jamie embraced Blakely’s brother as well. It’s got found family vibes, and Jamie is a green flag for sure. I ate up the tropes, and the writing is ideal for bingeing. I don’t have any major complaints whatsoever; it just needed a little more of that special something to truly make it great. It’s a lighthearted, easygoing read, and I have to imagine that anyone who has been following the series will consider it an absolute win.

Audio note: Really good audio! Alex Kydd is one of my personal favorites, and I seek out books narrated by him. His voice hooked me the moment I started listening to Becka Mack’s audiobooks, and I definitely associate his voice with “smitten sports guy,” so it was a perfect fit for this. I’ve listened to a few books narrated by Amy Hall, and I enjoy her voice as well. It’s not a standout to me, but easy to listen to for sure. The combination made for an excellent listening experience. The runtime (11-12 hours) was just long enough that I couldn’t finish in a single day, but the vibes were just right for audio. It’s a slow burn that gets spicy later in the story, so you could probably start at the office and finish at home. Audio is for sure the way I’d suggest experiencing the story - highly recommended in the format.

This was the perfect wrap up of this series. Jamie was everything I needed to be and I loved that Blakey and Nate never lost their bond as siblings. As for a marriage of convenience turned to love, it was done perfectly! Congratulations Hannah!

I can’t even put into words how much I loved this book. Jamie is a man obsessed and i’m just a girl obsessed with him. This was the perfect couple to end the series with but i’m sad we won’t get more of them.

Cute quick read. Will read her others ones just cause I’m a sucker for sports romance
Spice: 🌶️.5/5 (2 scenes maybe 3, plus epilogue; all in second half)
