PLAY WITH ME

When Susie stumbles upon an old, unmarked game at a dusty retro shop, she never expects it to change her life—literally. At first, it seems like a twisted version of The Sims, allowing her to create and control digital people. But as she plays, the lines between reality and the game begin to blur. The characters she creates aren't just self-aware—they're real. And when they suffer, they feel it.

Then, she notices something terrifying—every person she creates in the game disappears in real life.

Denial keeps her playing. Curiosity keeps her experimenting. But when the police start investigating, and the shop where she bought the game mysteriously disappears, she knows she’s in too deep. Yet, something urges her to keep going. To finish what she started.

Welcome to Play With Me. The game is simple. The rules are not.

Play With Me is a spine-tingling dark fantasy and horror book story that drags readers into the depths of supernatural terror. Fiona Myers presents a haunting tale of curiosity, consequence, and cursed technology.
The story revolves around Susie, an ordinary girl who stumbles upon a dusty, old computer game (Play With Me) in a small game shop, she takes it home, unaware of the dark secret hidden inside the game.

But this isn’t your average horror game. This one is haunted.

What Susie doesn’t realize is that.Every character she creates in the game starts disappearing in real life. And when a character dies in the game, their real-life counterpart is found dead in the exact same way — brutal, graphic, and terrifyingly accurate.
A haunted video game that controls reality? Genius.

🎮OVERALL🎮

Play With Me is a terrifying digital nightmare that’ll make you think twice before launching an old game from a shady store. Susie’s story is intense, creepy, and disturbingly believable. A perfect pick for fans of Black Mirror and who loves to read horror books.

Would YOU dare to PLAY WITH ME ????

This book was so different from anything I’ve ever read before. I’m not a gamer, gaming doesn’t interest me in the slightest but this book had me gripped from the first page.

Susie has a mundane and boring office job but after hours she’s a gamer. After a visit to a game shop she gets a game that even the shop staff weren’t aware of and takes it home and opens it up. A bit Sims like (so I’m told) she creates her house and her first character, Jeff. A guy she works with who she dislikes greater by the day. She has total control over Jeff and revenge for what he’s done feels good. Until the next day at work Jeff doesn’t show up and eventually his body is discovered. Susie continues to play the game, creating the people she knows and similar things happen. Coincidence?

This book is fast paced, and what happens is unthinkable really, but we know life doesn’t work like that. But imagine if it did?!

The ending of the book was quick and I really wanted there to be more to it, I think I needed to find out what happened to Susie and whether she survived to tell the story or not.

A great read, quick (I read it within 24 hours) and so different from anything I’ve read before.

I'm so excited. I've read a couple of chapters and can't help but feel very teased.
fast paced and creepy as hell, it's like the Sims meets black mirror. The idea of controlling and becoming a god like creator of the characters movements.
the Spotify playlist only adds to intrigue ...... I CAN NOT wait to finish.

Play With Me – Fiona Myers
Susie stumbles across a life simulator game and thinks it’s a harmless way to take out her anger on fictional versions of the people in her life. But this game is more than entertainment—it’s a curse.
I loved the concept of this book, and it was executed really well. The multiple POVs added a great dynamic and helped deepen the story. My only complaint is that it ends on a huge cliffhanger. Looks like I’ll be picking up book two for some much needed closure.

“It’s time to have control even if it’s not in real life…” at least that’s what Susie believes. In the beginning, the game seems harmless. Make a character, name him, build your dream house, the way a sim game would usually work. Susie decides to model her character after a co-worker that harasses her daily, Jeff, to help destress herself from the situation at work.
“He looks so vulnerable. So scared. Good. Atleast now he feels how I did, I hope he feels trapped, that he has no control on what is happening to him”.

If you are a Sims fan, just give this a read. The narrator did a great job as well. I was entertained the entire way through. It brought me back to treacherous days while playing the sims. The story felt fast paced and kept me on the edge of my seat. I didn’t know where it would end and I am beyond excited to know another book is coming.

I will always respect self-published authors; it's a big step to create and get your work out there. However, I am a book girlie with a great passion for literature, so I shall be as honest and analytical as I always am. I really liked the premise of the book, relating themes to the Sims game, one of my favourite games of all time. The ideas for the story were great. However, I feel like the execution was lacking.

In a literary context, the writing felt simple. At points, too simplistic; I did this, then I did that. I feel there could have been more creative ways to write/set certain scenarios, which I believe would have created tension a lot better. The whole language felt very matter-of-fact. Another issue, certain chapters didn't know what tense they wanted to be in. Usually, books are written in the past tense; at certain points, there was just a jumble of the past and present tense together. For example, a flashback was written in the present tense. Which confused me, making me think it was what was happening currently. So I think consistency within the book would benefit the story greatly.

However, I did really like the aesthetic, and how I imagined the game was really dark and sadistic. A complete 180 compared to the bubble colourful Sims game. And that tone of the game really helped it.

Ultimately, I would give this a 1.5, but some of the little things really brought the experience down for me.

I read this book in 2 sittings during a time where I was finding it difficult to find time to read.

That is testament to how fantastic this book is. Without giving spoilers, the twists and turns kept me turning page after page. I always wanted to know what was happening next with Suzie and the people she was interacting with. The generally tense atmosphere surrounding the narrative further encouraged me to read on.

I would definitely recommend this book to anyone that likes thrillers, detective stories, horror stories, The Sims, and mysteries.

And that cliffhanger has me yearning for book 2!
