I will always respect self-published authors; it's a big step to create and get your work out there. However, I am a book girlie with a great passion for literature, so I shall be as honest and analytical as I always am. I really liked the premise of the book, relating themes to the Sims game, one of my favourite games of all time. The ideas for the story were great. However, I feel like the execution was lacking.
In a literary context, the writing felt simple. At points, too simplistic; I did this, then I did that. I feel there could have been more creative ways to write/set certain scenarios, which I believe would have created tension a lot better. The whole language felt very matter-of-fact. Another issue, certain chapters didn't know what tense they wanted to be in. Usually, books are written in the past tense; at certain points, there was just a jumble of the past and present tense together. For example, a flashback was written in the present tense. Which confused me, making me think it was what was happening currently. So I think consistency within the book would benefit the story greatly.
However, I did really like the aesthetic, and how I imagined the game was really dark and sadistic. A complete 180 compared to the bubble colourful Sims game. And that tone of the game really helped it.
Ultimately, I would give this a 1.5, but some of the little things really brought the experience down for me.
