I tend to read other reviewers' comments before writing my own. I know this is cheating, but if you've read any of my reviews, you'll have come to terms with this. I'm relatively new to gardening (Adelaide Hills) and love finding out the names of plants already established (thank you, PlantNet) and what new plants I can introduce that will be happy here. I was, therefore, quite delighted to discover this book at random, in the library when I was there last Tuesday. The drawings by Cindy Lee Wright are exquisite, and I enjoyed the author's prose. He writes eloquently, and interestingly. I doubt a non-gardener-type would get through it all, but I certainly did. However, I agree wholeheartedly with a few other reviewers who have said that they would have been more satisfied with this book if there had been an appendix that had pictures of the plants, and the page references. Like the others, I spent far too much time on my phone looking up the plants. And, of course, being in Adelaide, South Australia, a number of these plants don't apply to my region anyway. Having said all this, I recommend this book to other budding botanists and gardeners.
