She built a safe haven for the living. The dead have other plans.
Thirty kids are counting on Ryley St. James to open the orphanage they were promised. The building is hers. The violent spirits inside? Not so much.
She has five days to clear them out before the entire project falls apart.
The reaper offering help might be more dangerous than the ghosts, but Ryley’s never backed down from a fight. Not when the system fails. Not when innocent lives are on the line. Not even when the cost is everything.
Grave Promise By Kate Allenton This is book 6 in the series. Another wonderful ghost story, reaper story, touch of romance, heartwarming, some suspense, and mysterious all in one book. Now I have to wait for the next book.😒
I enjoy Ryley St. James and that’s saying something because I don’t usually like females who have more brass than most men. She’s clever, witty, bold, courageous, and fights the good fight. She loves her family and friends and goes to great lengths to protect them. I need to mention that she sees ghosts and tries to send them into the light, even when they don’t want to go. But now she’s a Reaper and that put a whole new spin on everything.
She’s trying to open an orphanage, but can’t pass the inspection because of an angry and stubborn poltergeist that is violent and dangerous. She hasn’t honed her Reaper skills, even with her trainer, Sam, trying to help. She’s defiant and rebellious and refuses to follow the rules.
We meet a few more characters in this continuing saga that change the direction of the series. It isn’t a bad thing and makes me want to read more of the story. Ryley is full of surprises and that keeps me entertained.
This is a great read. It’s got fantastic characters, twists and turns in the plot, plenty of paranormal elements, and a touch of romance. The only thing I wished for was character descriptions. I've read a lot of books since the last book in the series came out and I needed a refresher in what everybody looks like. This is still worth five stars, but it’s easier for me to connect with the characters when I can see them.
*I received a free copy of this book and voluntarily left a review.
**Although this is part of a series, it can easily be read as a stand-alone novel, but it would be better to read the series from the start to get a good grip of Ryley
Ryley St. James is so thrilled to have reached the point of a final inspection on her project: renovating St. Vincent's sanitarium into a permanent home for thirty kids that are "in the system". It's a chance for them to have a sanctuary and put an end to temporary home after temporary home.
Great idea, right? Not everyone thinks so....particularly the ghosts who currently reside there and have made this renovation a complete nightmare. Ryley needs to get the ghosts out so it passes inspection, but the ghosts cause chaos whenever the inspector arrives. And this inspector really, really wants a reason to mark the inspection as "failed."
Even though Ryley likes to send the ghosts into the "light". These ghosts are having none of it. As usual, a great read by Kate Allenton with likeable characters, ghosts who cause havoc or are needy, and a story line with some laughs, drama, suspense, tension, twists and turns. You will enjoy the story from the first page to the last and the last will make you look forward to the next Ryley book.
I can’t get enough of the Lost souls society. Ryley story never gets old. I started the book and could not put it down. Ryley gets in so much trouble with ghosts .This time she really has trouble. I like that Josh is now in the family. Can’t wait for what’s in store for the whole gang. Now to anxiously wait for the next book!! Thank you Ms Allenton for bring such great stories to us.
I really enjoy this series! Rylie is definitely a rule breaker but she has a good heart. She trying to finally open her orphanage to help children in the foster system except it’s full of stubborn ghosts. She having a hard time clearing them out and Grim orders her to work with a new mentor. In usual Rylie fashion things get messy quickly. I can’t wait to read the next book!
The long-awaited addition to the Lost Souls Society has arrived and it was worth the wait. Riley St. James just keeps adding things to her plate. This time, a ten year old boy connects with her and becomes part of her family. Now, even as she is still learning about her own abilities, she has to reach it to him as well. There are more ghosts to help and things to avoid. I can’t wait for book 7 to continue this saga.
This series just keeps getting better and better. I absolutely LOVED "Grave Promise." I wouldn't have predicted all the ways the author would be able to turn up the dial on just about everything, expanding the story lines and cementing the reader's attention to the book AND their devotion to the series. I can't recommend this series enough, it's that good. Read it. It's amazing. Now, I'll be waiting - somewhat patiently - for the release of book seven and hoping that there will be more to come!
Grave Promise (Lost Souls Society Book 6) by Kate Allenton.
Beware this is book 6 in this series and it progresses the story line arc further. It could be read as a stand alone book, but I would suggest you read the first 5 books in this series first to have a better understanding of the main characters and the overall story arc. I really like this book and this series and look forward to the next installment/book 7. A great read.
I watched for this book to come out because yes I do not have patience! It exceeded my expectations having unexpected surprises through the book. Now, I’m anxiously awaiting the next! She is one of the only authors I continually read when the series isn’t complete because I like the books so much!
I have enjoyed this series. The characters and storylines are interesting and intriguing. They do not follow the norm. There's so much going on that you become invested cover to cover hook on what's next. I am already impatiently awaiting the next adventure with this crew.
This was fantastic. I love how Allenton sticks to the heart of the character but still moves life along, because it does. It doesn’t stop or slow down. And neither do her books. It’s like you’re living them real time! Can’t wait for the next one!!
I love this series & each book is more engrossing than the last. Riley can't seem to help herself stay out of trouble & ends up with more than she bargained for. Can't wait for the next book!
I’ve finished this series pretty quick, so I have to wait for more to come out. The errors became few and far between in book 5 and 6. The plot moves well, characters are great and it draws you in. Prepare to keep turning pages…
I have absolutely enjoyed this series and several other series by this author. I am not great at writing reviews but, this really good. The characters are awesome and love how they help each other have each other’s back. Can’t wait to read the next book.
Paused 17% Turns out I don’t remember a single thing from the last book so I’m very lost and bored. This is the problem with me reading series that aren’t complete, I can never get back into them
I love this series. It took me a bit because of recent surgery but at a certain point I just had to finish. I can’t wait until the next book. This is such a fantastic series.
