Book Review: I was given this as an advance reader copy and here are my honest thoughts.
I love the concept of this book and the story that it told. In this book we met five guardians: Khai, Chime, Tuli, and Alandra. I loveed the journey to discover and decode the prophecies. I also loved how there was a journey of self discovery.
This book had everything.I was looking for It had angst and tension. Action and gods. It had intrigue and captured me from the first page with the Siberian tiger. I love a book that captures you from the very beginning. That scene alone set the stage for me and the ride I was in for. I love the premise of a modern world with a magical and historical background .
I had never heard of Elisa Erwin until this book but if this book is a peek into her writing, I will definitely be reading more from her.
This is the book that finally pulled me out of my reading slump! Khai is such a relatable protagonist. Her struggles felt incredibly real and relatable, drawing me in immediately. Normally I am a slow reader with little time, but with this one it was easy to make time for it. As the story unfolded, all the characters grew on me, building a comforting found family. Searching for clues and unraveling the mystery with this group was just fantastic. The plot offered a massive payoff, too. The twists and the betrayal (hint hint), I never saw it coming! Despite the romance moving a little fast for me personally, the overall experience was such good fun! I am on the edge of my seat for the next one.
The Betrayal of a Fire completely captivated me — I genuinely couldn’t put it down and ended up reading it all in a single day. It’s hard to believe that this is Elisa Erwin’s debut novel, because the writing is so natural and compelling. Every page reflects the immense love and dedication she poured into this story. I would wholeheartedly recommend it to everyone, especially to those who are passionate about fantasy. This book is a true gem, and I can’t wait to see what Elisa writes next.
A fantasy set in the modern world with an interesting magic build. I couldn't guess what the twist was going to be, which I usually do, so it was refreshing to be surprised. I'm looking forward to the next book!
