I knew Calderdale was weird, even by the standards of Yorkshire, but it keeps impressing me with its weirdness.
Every old town in the country should have a book like this. It's fun, informative, accessibly written and compares competing claims and evidence with a deft touch.
Very interesting! Living in Calderdale, I knew there was a rich history here, but it was great to read about the strange folklore and tales in one collection like this. I enjoyed Weatherhead’s tone: at times, it was evident that his tongue was firmly in his cheek. I particularly enjoyed the cheeky Cliff Richard jibe on p.251. A fascinating and fun read. Great to support local writers and publishers, too.
A friend at work lent me this book as we both live on the outside of Calderdale but work in the area. Absolutely brilliantly written, great stories mixed with a bit of humour! Couldn’t recommend enough!!
Entertaining local history. I appreciate how the author did question and offer other solutions to the stories, not just accepting the paranormal explanation.
