The Secrets of Pine Holler is an amazing introduction to YA fantasy. It's about two sisters, Marzi and Sera, who discover they are from Lunaris and have magic. Once they find out Lunaris is in trouble, they will stop at nothing to help.

Personally, I would have loved more detail and build-up. Sometimes it felt like things jumped from one scene to the next. However, it's definitely a cute story filled with supernaturals, magic, sisterhood, and wonder.

I was very lucky to receive an ARC of this book, and I have to say, the author has clearly put a lot of thought into crafting a promising storyline.

The premise is intriguing, and I appreciated the effort that went into creating a unique world. The second half especially picks up momentum, and there’s a sweetness to the romance that younger YA readers may really like.

That said, the overall tone felt younger than I expected, and the characters lacked the emotional depth I usually look for. The dialogue and pacing were a little uneven, and the cliffhanger ending felt a bit too abrupt, slightly disturbing the flow of the story.

It’s a shame it wasn’t a perfect fit for me, but as mentioned above, I think readers on the younger end of the YA spectrum will find plenty to enjoy!

4.5 stars - I am so incredibly grateful for the opportunity to have received an advanced copy of The Secrets Of Pine Holler from the author! 🫶

The Secrets Of Pine Holler is such a beautiful debut novel and perfect for cozy fantasy lovers! 🥹💕It truly was such a fun read and it was amazing getting to discover so many layers to Marzi and Sera’s family history! 🫶

Marzi and Sera come back to the place they grew up to when their grandparents pass away suddenly and there truly is so much they discover when they do. While they are going through everything, Marzi finds out that things aren’t what they seem and that magic is indeed real! 😱🤯 It’s so wild and crazy but this story is truly such a fast-paced and adventurous ride! 🥰 Something else I loved about this story is the found family aspect. There are so many wonderful and incredible characters that are so supportive and kind! 🫶 There’s also a fated mate situation with Marzi and a particular guy who I won’t name and it’s so wholesome with the love and longing between them that it’s adorable! 🤭🔥 Lastly, that cliffhanger had me in shock and I need book two in my arms right now because I need to know what happens next! 😱🤯🙊

If you love cozy fantasy, fated mates, romance,
prophecies, found family, and amazing side characters then please be sure to read this because it’s worth the read! 🫶

This was a really fun book! I enjoyed that this had more of a cozy fantasy vibe to it. There was still a little bit of action sprinkled in throughout the book to keep you on your toes.

I really enjoyed Marzi’s self-discovery of learning who she was as a witch. She took it with grace and jumped headfirst into this new world to learn everything she could. I’d like to think if I suddenly found out I was a witch and had a wolf shifter for a fated mate that I’d react similarly. Honestly, sign me up! 🔮🐺

The romance is primarily closed door, so be prepared for a more wholesome beginning to our main mated pair’s love story. There was still plenty of longing between the two of them and a little bit of modest spice. 💕

The book ends on a cliffhanger, and I’m definitely interested to see where Book 2 takes us!

Thank you so much to Maddie Leigh for this ARC! 🧚🏼

I had a really good time reading this book. It's fast-paced, which I really appreciated, and features two sisters who learn that life isn't what they think it is and that magic is real.
One sister takes the news well, and one does not.
There's fated mates, hidden prophecies, portals, fae, magical creatures, shifters, and witches in here, and it all came together really well.
I'm excited to see what the sisters get up to in the next book.

The Secrets of Pine Holler by Maddie Leigh is a good read and delightfully witchy. It sort of gives off Practical Magic vibes. Two sisters, amazing magic, and a beautiful old house. Marzi and Sera Thornmyer had a falling out and are now being brought back together by the sudden death of their grandparents.

Through their shared inheritance, they discover they're witches. Sera doesn't believe in magic, while Marz is starting to believe. She soon discovers a supernatural world hidden right under her nose. She learns all that she can while making some new and interesting friends. I liked that Marz jumped right in to this new world with little hesitation and a willingness to learn. Meanwhile, I can understand Sera's denial. After everything she's been through, I don't begrudge her that. Sera had to come to terms in her own time. Meanwhile, I liked that even when she didn't believe she was working on repairing the relationship with her sister. As someone who has a sister, I liked Sera's and Marz's closeness as the series went on.

The story mostly takes place in this quaint little village and the girls' beautiful but mysterious house with a stunning garden that's straight out of a fairytale. The stage is certainly set. There's also a portal that leads to another realm. Prophecies are told, a destiny is revealed, and trouble is on its way. The plot was interesting and a bit mysterious. I didn't get the prologue, but the rest of the story was good. I've read stories that mention magic but rarely mention it. I love the amount of magic that was incorporated into the story. Not only that, but I enjoyed that feeling of whimsy and mystery.

The romance was decent. Marz's love interest is a stunning wolf shifter named Draven. I liked him a lot. Too bad this was a clean romance. The characters didn't go past some steamy kissing, and I would have liked a little more heat. The story ended on such a good cliffhanger. I can't wait to find out what happens next. The Secrets of Pine Holler was a good cozy portal fantasy.

I believe there is a lot of potential in this story, however, it pains me to rate this at a 3. For fans of cozy paranormal romances, with very very slow uptakes, this is for you. I'd say slow burn, but it's an instant flame that is a lot of kissing and touching without spice.

Synopsis: Two sisters discover they're witches after their grandparents pass away. They must learn to grow in their power at a rapid pace to fight the oncoming darkness that threatens to destroy the parallel realm. With the help of their new coven and their new fated mates, will they be enough to overcome the darkness?

Pacing: It is very inconsistent in the pacing. Sometimes it's hurried, other times it's very slow. I had difficulties staying on task because of the fluctuation.

What I liked:
The way the author paints the cottage and alternate world. I can see the plants, hear nature, and feel the energy.
The faeries are cute as heck.
The grit of the FMC. The MMC tries to assert his wants over how things should go at one point, she doesn't let him win. I like that about an FMC. Of course, there's a balance and she does let him win some of the other things, but I love the balance of their relationship.

What I didn't like:
There is a lot of abrupt changes from one topic to another. The reasoning behind one character changing her mind about something is not explored. It's a 180-degree change within a couple of sentences.
Pacing fluctuation.
Not as immersive as I had hoped (this is a me issue, not everyone will have this)
We find out at the end my biggest trope ick is part of this (again, a me issue) - mentor/student (she was a minor originally and when they get together, they're adults. It's still an ick for me.)

Overall, this will be a good in-between major emotional damage books for a palate cleanser. I look forward to seeing what that cliffhanger meant.

✨ A cozy, magical debut with heart and potential ✨

The Secrets of Pine Holler is a warm and whimsical debut that blends small-town charm with slow-burn magic and fated mates. Maddie Leigh introduces readers to Marzi, a woman whose life changes after the loss of her grandparents—and the discovery of the magical legacy they left behind.

As Marzi begins to unravel the secrets of her family’s past, she also starts to forge a deep bond with the house she inherited, the magic that flows through her, and the alpha wolf shifter, Draven, who is fated to be by her side. Her gentle acceptance of her new role feels cozy and comforting, like settling into a warm cup of tea with a touch of enchantment.

The story weaves together witches, shifters, family ties, and a rising darkness that looms just beyond the borders of Pine Holler. Marzi’s sister, Sera, adds an extra layer of emotional complexity as she struggles to accept the magic she once left behind.

While the pacing can feel a bit slow and the transitions between scenes occasionally choppy, the heart of this book shines through. It’s an enjoyable read with a strong foundation for a magical series, and the cliffhanger at the end will leave you eager for book two!

A heartfelt, witchy read with strong cozy fantasy vibes, ideal for fans of found family, hidden magic, and small towns with big secrets. 🌲✨

Marzi has spent her life in Pine Holler feeling out of place until she stumbles upon her grandmother's secret journals. Suddenly, magic pulses in her veins and a fierce wolf shifter steps into her path. As Marzi learns to own her new gifts, she also faces an ancient darkness that threatens her home. Now she must embrace her witch heritage and stand beside her unexpected alpha connection to save everything she loves.

I was drawn in by Marzi's journey from unsure outsider to confident witch. The world-building felt immersive. It was a bit slow at times. The chemistry between Marzi and the alpha wolf has just the right spark. I enjoyed how each supporting character brought their own flavor of magic or mystery. Moreover, the stakes kept rising, so I was hooked. Overall, it's an addictive paranormal romance that balances power struggles with heartfelt moments.

The Vibes It Brings:
🧙‍♀️ Hidden witch heritage and self discovery
🐺 Fierce alpha wolf romance
✨ Coven secrets and found family
🌑 Looming darkness and epic battles
💞 Slow burn connection with sweet payoff

If you crave a paranormal romance that mixes witchy lore with shapeshifter passion, this one deserves a spot on your shelf. The pace stays brisk, the characters feel real, and the magic system is fun without being confusing. Dive into Pine Holler and get swept away by mysteries and moonlit romance. Thank you to Maddie Leigh for the copy of this book. The opinions are my own.

Thank you so much to the author for sharing an ARC of this book with me!!!

“To never grow up, but always do what is right”

“ … all these journals are only the beginning of the wonderment that is about to unfold before her eyes”

I really enjoyed this book. If you’re a fantasy reader and you like a bit of romance in your book, then this is the perfect story to either start your journey into fantasy or continue it with a lighthearted and funny and dynamic witches intrigue. It’s also perfect if you loved Charmed , the 90s tv show!!! Two sisters who finds out they are witches after loosing their grandparents. Once of them more into the whole thing than the other. Marzi was such a fun character. Always one step forward. Always trying to help. Enchanted by the possibilities this new reality was bringing in her life. Also a bit scared, understandably. Sera is completely different. A bit more reserved and mistrustful of the events happening in their life. But not less protective of her little sister. That is, until an alpha wolf shifter comes into their life. In this book, we have it all: fated mates, insta-love, action, magic, found family and training. And I already cannot wait to find out where this author will take the story from now on !!!!

“You’re already wise beyond your years, little witchling”

“There has never been a reason to doubt the moon and her decision in giving me you”

Firstly, I want to acknowledge and commend Maddie Leigh for publishing The Secrets of Pine Holler—her debut novel. Putting your work out into the world for the first time takes courage and passion, and I truly admire her for taking that leap.

That said, I personally found the book quite difficult to get through. The pacing was very slow for most of the story, with very little action until the end. Even then, the narrative seemed to stop abruptly at the climax, without offering a satisfying resolution or sense of closure. It left me feeling a bit unfulfilled as a reader.

In terms of character development, I struggled to connect with the characters. There wasn’t enough backstory or emotional depth to help me understand who they really were or what motivated them. Because of this, when the two main characters became mates, it felt sudden and unearned. There was no inner conflict, no real tension—just acceptance, which made the transition feel flat rather than meaningful.

I believe the book could have benefited from deeper character exploration and more dynamic storytelling to bring the world and its people to life. That said, I see a lot of potential in Maddie Leigh’s writing, and I hope she continues to grow as an author. I’m looking forward to seeing how her voice and storytelling evolve in future works.

Being part of Maddie's arc team has been so much fun, and the fun is only beginning!

Witches, shifters, dark magic, and a world on the brink of total disaster? Yes please!

The Secrets of Pine Holler is the first in the Witch Sisters of Pine Holler series. This story follows Marzi and her sister Sera when they come back to the place they grew up after their grandparents passed suddenly in an accident.

Secrets and things long forgotten are uncovered as Marzi realizes there are things about her that she didn't know. That magic and stories from her childhood aren't just fairy tales but are rooted in a reality she once lived in as a baby. The truth is a much harder pill to swallow, dark magic and long foretold prophecies will make the sisters face the hardest thing they have ever had to do.

But together, with all the friends they've made on the way, anything seems possible.

This cozy, magical read will have you falling in love with characters and rooting for them with everything you have. While I would've liked to see more at the end [details-wise], I cannot stress how much the ending left me looking for the next chapter when there was none, and I can't wait to get my hands on the second book!

The Thornmyre sisters have had a life outside the family unit. After their grandparents suddenly perish, they return to the place where they spent most of their lives with the people who raised them.

You can immediately sense that there is something amiss between the people living in the house and their neighbours. Marzi and Sera try to resolve the issues concerning their loved ones quickly, but mysterious elements slowly begin to emerge and Marzi's curiosity grows.
The younger sister's search for the truth begins almost immediately, much to the elder sister's disappointment, as she does not believe in 'fairy tales' or magic. Through the written testimonies of her grandmother and the people she meets, Marzi discovers that the scattered clues are true and that the people of Lunaris need the sisters' power to stop a dark evil that is polluting the flora and fauna ever faster.

It's definitely a story with great potential. I found similarities with 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑪𝒉𝒓𝒐𝒏𝒊𝒄𝒍𝒆𝒔 𝒐𝒇 𝑺𝒑𝒊𝒅𝒆𝒓𝒘𝒊𝒄𝒌, 𝑭𝒂𝒊𝒓𝒚 𝑶𝒂𝒌 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑺𝒉𝒂𝒅𝒐𝒘𝒉𝒖𝒏𝒕𝒆𝒓𝒔. The problem is the contrast between the structure, which is aimed at 9–11-year-old readers, and the soft dark YA.

If you love mysteries, magical creatures and rekindling lost sparks, then this is the book for you🔥

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - An absolutely enchanting read, 5 stars.

Wow, wow, wow! I absolutely loved the debut novel The Secrets of Pine Holler by Maddie Leigh. We meet Marzi and her sister Sera, who uncover secrets left by their grandmother, leading them into a magical world full of surprises. Marzi discovers her own hidden powers and finds herself in a realm on the brink of darkness. Along the way, she meets Draven, a wolf shifter Alpha, a coven of witches, and two feisty fairies, Starla and Posey, among many other fascinating characters.
The world-building is exceptional, immersing you in a magical realm full of danger, intrigue, and mystery. The stakes are high, and the urgency to save the realm from falling into darkness adds so much depth to the story. If you love paranormal fantasy with a strong heroine, complex characters, and a thrilling plot, this is a must-read! I can’t wait to read book 2 and see what happens next to Marzi, her sister Sera, and the other characters. I 100% recommend this book! 📖 💫 🐺 🧚🏻 🧙

This debut novel introduces a richly imagined world where magic simmers beneath the surface and danger looms on the horizon. Marzi’s journey from ordinary to extraordinary is filled with intriguing discoveries, secret legacies, and the kind of mythical intensity fans of fantasy romance will appreciate.

The concept of an unaware witch discovering her heritage alongside a brooding alpha protector is a familiar but beloved trope, and this book leans into it with enthusiasm. The setting, layered with magical history and a looming threat, has the foundation of a compelling series, and readers who enjoy strong-willed heroines finding their place in a magical world will find much to root for.

I’m excited to see how the author continues to grow in her storytelling and worldbuilding—there’s a lot of potential here, and it’s clear she’s poured her heart into creating a captivating universe.

This book was a lovely little fairy tale. It’s perfect for cozy fantasy lovers who want a story with quick love and jam packed with magical discovery.

It’s very much a journey of self discovery for the main character Marzi, who is discovering her magical heritage and a whole new world that is opening up to her.

It’s also more of a closed door romance for those who are looking for something a little more wholesome. But don’t worry there is still lots of love, longing and modest spice.

The story certainly leaves a lot open for book 2 and it sounds as if it’s going to get very intense in the next installment. There’s also definitely going to be lots of love in the next one with Marzi’s love interest and pack Alpha, Draven 😍

Maddie Leigh did a wonderful job creating a whimsical and magical world ✨🧚‍♀️ thank you for this delightful ARC!

2 sisters, seeming opposite in every way Sera the oldest and doesn’t want anything to do with mythology or witch’s and Marzi is the believer, and the more open.

Lots of secrets and mysteries to unravel, and these sisters know nothing, absolutely nothing, and only one believes enough to be open minded.

It was so good, I don’t even know really what do say, it was a really good book and I can’t wait to continue with the series.

That cliffhanger, Oh man, I kinda thought it was gonna happen, but not the way I thought it would happen and it was amazingly written out.

Key points in no particular order:
– urban fantasy
– witch’s
– magic
– Fairies
– shifters
– Fated mates
– portals to other realms
– Family tragedy

Do you like witches? magic? wolf shifters? than this might be a book you love!!

A paranormal romance with fated mates. Marzi is a witch, but hasn’t know until now, and is faced with a whole lot of unknown. another realm she needs to save, a mate, and a sister who is denying the truth.

Paranormal romances are not my go to, but i’m trying to find more because I do like them. So ofcourse I had to sign up for this arc when I saw it. I loved every second of this book. It had me wondering what was about to happen next, how they are going to handle the impending issue, and mainly would Marzi sister, Sera, ever give in to the turth?

If you want an introduction to a non spicy Paranormal Romance that give this one a try!

It was a cute and cozy read that like what others have said did have a bit of a practical magic vibe to it. I found that the POV in which the story was told just wasn’t for me, so I personally found it hard to connect to any of the characters. There is a smidge of romance to the story w/o spice but it mainly focuses on one of the sisters coming into her magic and building friendships around her while trying to repair the strained relationship with her older sister. So while the story wasn’t for me and my usual reading tastes, I feel there’s plenty of others that will definitely enjoy the world building and charm of this story. Does end on a fairly steep cliffy

This was a cute, cozy read! I really enjoyed the easy relationship between Marzi and Draven. They immediately just made sense together and completed each other so well. I was giddy like a schoolgirl watching their relationship grow. It was so refreshing seeing a MMC that was so affectionate and considerate. He is the definition of a walking green flag💕
I also really enjoyed seeing the sisterly bonds that Marzi forms with Morgana and Elowen; it gave me practical magic vibes.
The surprising cliffhanger ending had me in utter shock! I need to know what happens!

Thanks so much to the author for the eARC!

A witch, a Wolf shifter, and a realm on the brink of Darkness. Marzi, a girl who didn't know magic ran through her bones, after finding some things her grandma left behind. She meets a man who not only is a Wolf shifter but the Alpha from the realm she will have to save. This journey was so amazing, seeing her discover all the things she didn't know she could do or the world she was part of. The story, the realm, the main characters, the side characters, All Of It !!! 100% recommended and I can't wait to see what there is next for Marzi and her sister!

This was a great book! I enjoyed the characters, the semi-slow burn between Draven and Marzi, and the relationship between Marzi and Sera. My only thing I wish would have been different was a little slower ending. Though this is the first in a series the last two chapters felt kind of rushed and like there was a little lack of detail. Some may like though that it got straight to the point and left no fluff and with the scene that was being built, I felt there could have been more added. I did enjoy the book, will recommend it to others, and will happily wait for the next book to come out!

This YA cozy fantasy read is an amazing quick read. A secret hidden for years. hidden magic runs in her blood. Yet, that secret ends one day when our FMC find journals books, and secrets her grandmother left. a dark storm rises, and no way to guide on how to stop it. failure isn't an option, will she be able to fight back? The plots were a little choppy, and a little more detail would have been nice. Yet being YA, it is more closed door. An adorable story filled with supernatural (hello alpha), sisterhood, self-growth, and magic. Look out for book 2, and the cliffhanger!

If you like all things whimsical, cozy cottages, plant life, witches and wolves you’ll love this! The characters are vivid and likable. The world grows and grows as you read on. There’s romance, adventure and self discovery. This book has so much in it! Highly recommend!

And the cliffhanger! 😱😱😱😱 now I have to wait for the next book!

All I can think about is how in the prologue the sisters’ mother kept crying for her baby and everyone was all confused like “we have the girls”, but NO! What if Marzi has an evil twin?!

A fun, cozy, and magical read. This book was the perfect palate cleanser—light yet enchanting with just the right amount of spice and charm.

Marzi finds out she’s a witch and is suddenly thrust into a world where she has to save magic itself. Cue Draven, her broody, protective shifter mate. Fated mates, witches, magic, and shifters all wrapped up in a sweet small-town setting.

⭐️ 5/5
🌶️ 1/5 (tension/closed door)

This the first debut novel that I had the opportunity to read and help look for edits, and you guys it was AMAZING!!! The only reason that it took me over a month to finish was that I didn’t want the story to end!

The Secrets of Pine Holler is a PG13 slow-ish burn paranormal romance, with wolf shifters, magic, fairies, and fae. It is a whimsical story with fated mates and found family, as well as a rekindling of sisterhood.

But be warned of the cliffhanger!!

I enjoyed the plot of this book, it reminds me a little bit of the movie Practical Magic. I enjoyed how descriptive the author gets with settings, which makes it easy to picture. A couple of things ruined it for me. First, the book's characters didn't seem to have any life to them. They just felt like they were flat. The other thing that bothered me was the pacing of this book. It just felt rushed to me and was difficult to enjoy when jumping from one thing to the next. Overall it was okay.
