American Beauty: Alex and Magnolia 2

Rate this book
True love stories never end. But they can be interrupted.

Magnolia Steel returns home from Australia, but her heart is still tangled up in Alex Sebring—the former rugby star who made her believe in something real.
Real enough to try the impossible––long distance.

The time zones are brutal. The distance, worse.
But they make a promise—to hold on, even when everything else tells them to let go.

Until someone in the shadows pulls the strings.

Two messages.
Two lies.
Two broken hearts—each left believing the other walked away.

For Alex, the silence becomes unbearable. The heartbreak. The what-ifs. It all spirals into a storm of anxiety and depression he can’t outrun.

Then—hope. A chance to reclaim the life he lost.
A shot at a professional comeback. One last opportunity to fight for the game torn away from him. To take it, he’ll need surgery.

The procedure brings him to the States… and back into the path of the woman he never forgot.

The heat between them hasn’t faded.
If anything, it burns hotter than ever.

They weren’t meant to fall apart. But they’ll have to fight like hell to come back together.

3.5 stars!

The second book in the Alex and Magnolia Trilogy, and after their whirlwind three months together in Australia, our soulmates find themselves on opposite sides of the planet now that Magnolia has returned home to the US. Their love for each other continues to burn bright, even despite the distance, but when third parties get involved and work to break our lovers up, they’ll be tested in ways they never could have imagined.

I admit, I was worried going into this book. That blurb is scary, and the miscommunication trope can be frustrating, but this is not that. There is genuine interference in their relationship, wildly outside of their control, and oh, how my heart ached for them. It’s dramatic and emotional but I couldn’t put the book down, waiting to see how they were going to find their way back to each other.

It comes when Alex gets the opportunity to undergo specialised surgery for his injured ankle in the US, and he seeks out his love, desperate for answers, and OMG, the feels!

“I didn’t let you go.”
My heart fractures all over again. “I didn’t let you go either.”

It was the reunion I was waiting for, full of SO much emotion, and I loved seeing these two together again.

“I’m lost without you.” His voice breaks, rough with emotion. “I love you. I never stopped. Not for a single second.”
A tear slips down my cheek. “I love you too. Every second, every breath, it has always been you.”

They still have some things to work through though, and with outside forces still desperate to keep them apart, they have a lot to deal with as they face what comes next for them.

I really enjoyed this book, though parts of it were frustrating. Firstly, with the depth of their connection, I couldn’t believe how quick they were to believe it was over. And then Magnolia made some really poor choices that I wish she didn’t make. But this book is all about watching them overcome all of that, seeing them come to realise exactly what they mean to each other and what that means for their future, and it sets them up to fight for their HEA in the next book of the series.

A great instalment for an epic love story.

3.5 stars.

Book two of this trilogy begins where we left off with Magnolia Steel having to go back home & Alex Sebring still in Australia. Their three months was over but can either really go back to the life they had before without the other in it? They still want to make something work but long distance and other people interfering can it really work? This does go a little slower, as about 60% is them in different countries but I will say after that spot the story really picks up leaving you on a cliffhanger to the finale. All in all, I am invested in Magnolia & Alex getting their HEA even if I was a little annoyed and the communication kerfuffle . Told in first person and dual POV.

American Beauty continues the story of Magnolia and Alex which began in Steel Beauty. The lovers are now parted with Magnolia returning to the USA but what was only supposed to have been a temporary affair has left both wondering if a future is possible and Alex is determined they can make things work despite the distances and time differences separating them, not realising that there was someone lurking in the shadows just as determined to split them up, manipulating events and causing misunderstandings until they part thinking the other has given up on a ‘them’. Alex especially takes things badly until hope blooms when surgery becomes a possibility of perhaps giving him the opportunity to rejoin the game he loves but its only available in the US and the opportunity of seeing Magnolia again.

Told from dual points of view, American Beauty was a gripping tale of secrets, lies and betrayal as Alex and Magnolia struggled to find their way back to each other despite outside interference but they were both determined to work at it realising what they had was worth it. I love these characters, they are well rounded and likeable, and you can’t help but want them to be together. I also enjoyed that they were of a similar age and in their thirties. Despite ending on a happy for now, I can’t wait to read what trials and tribulations lie ahead for them in the third book of their trilogy. One thing is for sure they’re definitely having to work for their happily ever after

Georgia Cates delivers an emotionally charged and exquisitely written story in “American Beauty”, a novel that grips the heart and doesn’t let go. From the first page, I found myself completely immersed in the raw intensity of heartache, hardship, and resilience.

This book is breathtakingly beautiful—not just in its prose, but in the way it pulls readers into the depths of pain and loss, only to lift them back up with the power of love and renewal. The characters are complex, deeply human, and achingly real, making every moment feel visceral and deeply felt.

At times, I found my heart lodged in my throat, choked up by the weight of sorrow and the sheer force of emotions that poured through the pages. Yet, amidst the darkness, there is an undeniable strength—the kind that comes from enduring, fighting through, and ultimately rediscovering love in a way that feels restorative and whole.

“American Beauty” is more than a love story; it’s a testament to perseverance, a journey of finding light in the shadows, and proof that beauty can rise from struggle. Georgia Cates weaves heartbreak and healing with stunning precision, making this a must-read for anyone who craves a novel that will make them feel, ache, and believe in love’s ability to redeem.

I really enjoyed American Beauty by Georgia Cates. The story pulled me in with its emotional depth and the complex relationship between Magnolia and Alex. I appreciated how the novel explored the challenges of a long-distance relationship, especially with the added complications of secrets and misunderstandings that kept the tension high throughout.

The characters felt real and relatable to me, particularly Alex, whose struggles with anxiety and depression were portrayed with sensitivity and honesty. The chemistry between the leads was palpable, and the emotional stakes made their journey compelling. I also liked how the story balanced moments of heartbreak with hope and the possibility of healing.

The pacing worked well for me, allowing the romance to build naturally while keeping the plot engaging with twists and obstacles. While some elements felt familiar within the billionaire and arranged relationship tropes, Georgia Cates’s writing and character development kept the story fresh and heartfelt.

Overall, I’d give American Beauty four stars. It’s a touching and well-written contemporary romance that I’d recommend to readers who enjoy emotionally charged love stories with real challenges and heartfelt resolutions.

A Mixed Bag of Romance and Frustration

Georgia Cates’ American Beauty continues Alex and Magnolia’s love story, with the emotional journey that began in book one. While the first installment checked all my boxes, book two left me vexed and side-eyeing Magnolia’s choices.

Alex’s emotional depth and struggles remain compelling, keeping some of the magic alive.

Magnolia transitions from strong and independent to making choices that feel forced for drama, rather than organic.

The Miscommunication Trope: A classic romance pitfall drains the story’s momentum rather than adding tension.

Final Verdict: A Frustrating Yet Readable Sequel
While American Beauty retains some of the charm from book one, Magnolia’s questionable decisions and predictable miscommunication drama make it hard to enjoy.

Would I recommend it? Yes, but with caution. If you loved book one, you will find enough romantic tension and emotional depth to keep going. But if forced drama and miscommunication tropes frustrate you, this sequel might test your patience.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher/author to review for Stephanie's Book Reports.

This book picks up right where the other left off Magnolia is having to go back home and Alex is still in Australia. Her contract is over and the satellite office has been set up in Australia. She and Alex have had some serious moments together and now that time is over. But, they vow to stay in touch. However, things like that are never that easy and a betrayal pushes them apart. Secrets and lies are flying and things are just not looking good for them. Alex is trying his best to understand what is happening and goes in search of the woman he has fallen for. Only he runs head first into the past, and yet another betrayal. These two really go though so much in this book. It broke my heart at times. There are some great secondary characters in this book. However, you do not have to wait for the HEA of this series. You get it by the end of this book.

American Beauty picks up right where Steel Beauty finished so please make sure you have read that book before picking this one up.
Magnolia is back in America and Alex is still in Australia but they still hope to make long distance work for them by communicating everyday but suddenly something happens that leaves them both believing the other has moved on……
Alex decides to fly to the States to see if he can fix their relationship but as they figure the misunderstandings out a new and bigger problem is waiting on the horizon.
This is a trilogy and this book left me wondering if Alex and Magnolia would ever get the HEA they both deserve. This is a well written, captivating read that was emotional and entertaining.

5 Star Review American Beauty (Beauty #4) by Georgia Cates

This book picks up from Steel Beauty so please read that one first.

Magnolia Steel has returned to the US but is determined to make a success of her relationship with Alex Sebring even if it means a long distance one.

Miscommunication causes issues but Alex decides to fly to the US to sort things out. I liked that both are determined to fight for their relationship despite outside influences trying to destroy it.

This is a well written, at times emotional story with characters whose story you cannot help but become invested in.

Cannot wait to see what the author has in store for our couple in the conclusion to their story in Beloved Beauty.

We pick right back up where Steel Beauty ended with Alex in Australia and Magnolia back in America. Long distance is difficult to navigate even under the best of circumstances but on different continents is even more extreme. Rife with opportunities for miscommunication and misunderstandings, Alex heads to the US to see if things can be worked out. There's drama, tension, heat. As always, Georgia Cates delivers when she builds a story and leaves the reader feeling everything along with her characters. Outside forces continue to bear down on Alex and Magnolia and we're left taking the beatings right along with them.

I can't wait to read the conclusion of their story. Thanks to Georgia Cate and Give Me Books for this arc opportunity.

This is the second past of Alex and Magnolia’s trilogy.
Magnolia has returned home from Australia, leaving former rugby player is America. A long-distance relationship, and time zones, are brutal, and when they fall apart, they bring out the worst in each other with their anger.
This story ends in a cliffhanger, and I cannot wait to read the conclusion!
This is a well written story easy to read, slow burn, emotional roller coaster story, which has drama, miscommunication, trust issues, challenges, redemption, humor, second chances, and love, which leads to an entertaining, and captivating page tuner.
I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.

~~~~~~~~~~~Tracy's ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Review~~~~~~~~~~
I fell in love with Alex and Magnolia in the previous book and as their story continues in this book I am definitely hooked. Their story broke my heart in the first book and now, wow, I love their chemistry and connection. So much is at stake for both of them and they can't breathe without the other. These characters are so intriguing and interesting, their stories grip me and draw me into their world. I couldn't put this book down and definitely lost sleep but it was well worth it. I highly recommend this book, series and author. I hope we get more of Violet's story in the next book.
I am needing more of this couple. I loved to see Alex's emotions come out to the front and be able to really see how he deals with things. Magnolia tried to stay strong and I enjoyed seeing how she dealt with it. This is a couple that I am just absolutely adoring. ~Jen
Book 2 starts off where we left off in book 1. Book 1 flowed quite well into book 2 and it was just as good, if not better. It was definitely a roller coaster of emotions. I don't want to give too much away, but it will definitely grab your attention and not let go. I consumed book 2 and now I'm excited to see how book 3 wraps up Magnolia and Alex's story! ~Andrea
American Beauty is a passionate and emotional romance about two people whose love refuses to be forgotten, even when life seems determined to keep them apart. Magnolia Steel returns home from Australia, but her heart is still entwined with Alex Sebring, the former rugby star who made her believe in something real. Their long-distance relationship was never easy—the time zones, the miles, the uncertainty—but their bond was strong enough to promise each other they would hold on, no matter the obstacles.
The romance between Magnolia and Alex is tender, intense, and deeply heartfelt. From stolen moments and lingering glances to the overwhelming pull they feel toward each other, their chemistry burns across every page. The love they share is tested not by a lack of passion, but by outside interference and miscommunication, which makes their eventual reunion even more charged with emotion. Alex’s struggle to overcome heartbreak and self-doubt, and Magnolia’s unwavering devotion, add layers of depth to their connection.
When fate brings them back together, the heat between them is undeniable. Every interaction crackles with longing, every touch reminds them of what they almost lost, and the trust they rebuild makes their romance feel earned and real. The story beautifully captures the highs and lows of a love that is strong enough to survive distance, lies, and time, proving that true love can be interrupted but never fully erased.
American Beauty is perfect for readers who enjoy slow-burning romance, emotional tension, and characters who fight for the love they can’t forget. Georgia Cates delivers a heartfelt story about the intensity of first love, the pain of separation, and the magic of reconnecting with someone who will always hold your heart.
If you’re a fan of swoon-worthy romances that pull at your heartstrings and make you root for every moment of reunion, American Beauty is a book you’ll want to curl up with and savour every passionate page.
Oh this author!!!
What she put this couple through.
What she put my head and heart through.
We watch as this couple falls apart thinking the worst, both hurting, both angry
But we readers know they have it all wrong and all we can do is watch them suffer.
Until finally!!
Our hero is the one to come back and ask questions.
Then my romance loving heart started to smile.
They are the perfect couple and I can't wait to read the rest of their HEA.
Fingers crossed we get more about a little side couple.
Magnolia is home in the US and missing Alex a lot. Long distance is not something they were made for. Some lies and misunderstanding that let them both to a broken heart that they’re trying to come back from. When Alex extends an olive branch to find peace, Magnolia grabs it and brings them back together. A lot of angst in this book and misunderstandings to feelings of betrayal. I feel this makes them a better and stronger couple. I love her bestie Violet, we all need a person like her in our lives.
The story picks up where it left off in Steel Beauty. Magnolia headed back to America while Alex is in Australia. They communicate everyday but then something unexpected happens and they both think each other has moved on. It's heartbreaking to see them go through this. On an off chance, Alex goes to visit her, and they realize it was all a huge misunderstanding. As they work it out, a bigger threat looms. I can't wait for the last book to see what happens.
