Duty was supposed to be simple—until she walked into his mission.
Ethan Cross doesn’t get emotionally involved. As the head of Citadel Solutions, he handles high-stakes security with military precision and zero distractions. Protecting international pop star Nova Rivers from a dangerous stalker? Just another job.
Until he meets her sister.
Melanie Rivers is the quiet force behind Nova’s chaotic empire—efficient, invisible, and utterly selfless. She’s spent her life in the shadows, sacrificing her dreams to hold her family together.
But Ethan notices what no one else does—the way she shoulders everyone’s burdens without complaint, the quiet fire burning beneath her calm exterior. She’s not the client. She’s not part of the mission. Yet the longer he’s near her, the harder it gets to remember the lines he swore he’d never cross.
But in an industry full of secrets, danger lurks closer than anyone suspects. And one wrong move could cost them everything.
He was hired to keep one woman safe… but the one he can’t stop thinking about might be the one who brings him to his knees.

I'm so glad I tried DUTY UNBOUND because I absolutely loved it! I've been looking for a good romantic suspense book that wasn't mafia or dark romance but it's been a struggle to find something. Seeing that this was written by a male author who was former military had me cautious but optimistic and I'm happy I took the chance. This had a perfect blend of action to romance and I read it in one day because I was enjoying myself so much. The writing was great, the character "voices" flowed, and for a debut book it was really polished. I also loved the switch up on the bodyguard trope since this involved him falling for his protectee's sister and manager.
But what I enjoyed the most about DUTY UNBOUND was the characters; both Ethan and Mel stole my heart and I loved their slow building relationship. Ethan was the quintessential protector, a little brusk but ultimately caring. The author joked on his IG about competence p*rn but seriously, this hero was smart, good at his job, and didn't make stupid mistakes simply to advance the plot. I legitimately believed that Citadel Solutions was the best in the business because their actions demonstrated that from start to finish. And don't get me started on the way he truly SAW Mel, the way he understood her needs, and the way he lifted her up when she didn't believe in herself. I was swooning.
I also adored Mel as our FMC; she was so kind and compassionate and put everyone else before herself. She had dedicated her life to making her sister's music career successful and she did it with grace, intelligence, and kindness. I'm so glad we got to see Mel find her voice and go after the life she wanted for herself because she so deserved it. I feel like Mel's POV chapters really shined because there was so much emotion behind her thoughts and experiences.
The romance for this one was on the softer side but we still got some spicy scenes and I feel like the slower pace was perfect for these characters and their situation. I actually really liked that they forged an emotional connection first before they got involved with each other.
I would highly recommend this to anyone who loves romantic suspense!
Wow, this is such a fantastic book. This is the author’s first book and I was hooked from page one. The words just flowed effortlessly and I felt like I was experiencing everything. Ethan didn’t seem to like Melanie (Mel) at first since she reminded him of his ex. His team was hired to protect her sister from a stalker. Loved how close they became. Loved when he shows his possessiveness at one scene. They had great chemistry and loved getting both points of view. I stayed on edge, and was shocked by a twist towards the end. I even cried. Loved being so involved in this book. Loved their happy ever after and this book is worth re reading. I’m now following this author and can’t wait for more books. I voluntarily read an advanced readers copy and I highly recommend this book. I signed up for his newsletter and received a bonus epilogue and I loved it. Had some happy tears.
Ethan Cross owner of Citadel Solutions and his team are hired to protect a pop diva who has a stalking problem. Emphasis on DIVE….. He would rather be in a war zone. Until he meets Mel Rivers her sister.
Mel Rivers is living her superstar sisters dream and it’s exhausting. Until he shows up. Her sister’s bodyguard Ethan Cross. He’s gorgeous, sexy and intense. She feels seen and heard for the first time in her life. Her dreams of home and family? Could they finally be a reality with him? But until the stalker is caught she can’t focus on that now. And when the stalker takes a turn no one saw coming can Ethan stop him in time to save the woman that means everything to him? "Thank you for writing this story.”
Good debut novel from this author. I must admit Nova annoyed me for most of the book, but as she was the superstar singer, being a diva is kind of expected.
Mel Rivers is her sister, who steps in to continue her mother’s work of supporting Nova and her career, when a stalker gets closer they call in Citadel Security. Ethan Cross (hellooooo hotness 🥵) and his team arrive and sparks fly.
I really loved Mel & Ethan together, this was a slow burn which I have a love hate relationship with lol This book is a good all round romantic suspense, it has plenty of action, suspense, and romance that heats up, already looking forward to book 2
I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book. When Mel seeks professional help security wise, Ethan, as head of Citadel Solutions outright dismisses her due to her sisters attitude. For the time being… When CS indeed offers protection, it’s very much needed. The story actually turned out as I hoped it would, not the usual stalker thing but a teeny tiny miscalculation by everyone has things going south. Quickly. So, will CS be on time to save lifes or will it be to late. Great story, I hope will continue.
This is the first time I have read a book by Dominic Pierce but it will not be the last. Wow! Protectors from the security organization of Citadel and a strong lady protective of her family and staff. I could not put it down. Unexpectant twists and turns, warm characters and a great story. Bravo!
I received a free copy of this book via BookFunnel and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I love a good romantic suspense and when I saw this was written by a man, a former marine at that, I had to give it a go! I really liked the suspense part, but did feel the romance was lukewarm. There was a lot of action and it kept me flipping the pages. I did figure out who the villain was quite early on, but it didn’t stop me from wanting to see what crazy thing he would do next. We don’t get a whole lot of couple time. I mean they see each other often, kind of a forced proximity situation, but most of the time they are being ‘professional’ and distant to each other. So even though I enjoyed this book, I like my romantic suspense to be a bit more romance heavy.
Safety: - OW: H’s ex is mentioned A LOT. He seems to compare h to her all the time. It almost felt like he was still hung up on her and got a bit annoying. It’s been years, let it go. - OM: OM h dated for a bit texts her and she runs into him. He still wants her. - no cheating - No separation / no third act break up
I really enjoyed this. There were a couple times where I was hoping it wouldn't go the typical route (the sisters both crushing on Ethan), but it doesn't happen! It was Ethan and Mel all the way and despite Nova's popstar diva-ness, she really does care about her sister. She just got swept up into the lifestyle. I loved the way Mel and Ethan built the relationship and the tension. I also feel like you could tell this was written by a military vet that has done contracting work (with the DOD no less) because there was so much more nuanced detailing to that aspect of Ethan's POV. I think you could read other suspense's and not notice, but it made it feel more grounded in reality here. I really enjoyed this (yes it needs to be said twice) and can't wait to read more! Plus Mel really hit me in the feels at a few points with her insecurities.
Ethan Cross is a military vet who owns Citadel Solutions a security company with other vets/friends. They do security abroad and on occasion in-country guarding celebrities. This go round.. a young popular singer is getting death threats and her quiet, unassuming sister, who is also her manager who literally smooths out everything and all glitches.. with calm… is ‘forced’ to hire private security. We all need a Mel who just takes care of everything… Ethan misreads the situation thinking Nova is overindulged and superficial and her sister Melanie aka Mel is power driven like his almost fiancée. Thrown together, Ethan realizes that Mel is busy protecting her sister first and foremost and neglecting herself… a wish for a family, a quiet life out of the spotlight and to paint. Only Mel promised their late mother to fulfill her wishes for Nova’s success. As the threats take on a dark tone, who is the threat and for whom is he coming? In his first novel, Dominic Pierce has created compelling characters. Readers will want to know more about the Citadel team members long with who is the threat? Mr Pierce has used witty dialogue and bantering to move his story forward. Readers taken on a ride to follow the twists and turns; to follow the bread crumbs. As the book blurb indicates, Ethan will become enamored with Mel and her needs and wants. Bat but but and and and… this is a fun read while this reader had yet to decide exactly who is the evildoer. And then…. Delightful read. Grab it up and can not wait until the next book in the series.
Mel is the woman in the background, managing her pop star sister Nova's career. Nova doesn't really pay attention to much but herself, she loves Mel but her disregard is really harsh. When Nova starts receiving threats and weird messages Mel hires Ethan and Citadel Solutions for her security. As threats escalate, events take a turn no one expected, and Ethan and his team have to bring all their skills to bear to protect Mel and Nova.
Mel handles everything for her sister, every crisis, every meltdown, every problem. She is never thanked or rewarded or taken care of, until she meets Ethan. He looks out for her, sees what she needs to relax and makes her feel loved and protected like no one has.
Ethan has been moving from crisis to crisis for so long he's never stopped to see what he needs for himself. Then he meets Mel and realizes she is what he's been missing. He will do whatever he has do to keep her safe and loved.
Ethan's team were a great bunch of characters. Tough, funny, loyal and capable, they are behind Ethan a hundred percent and committed to their charges.
The mystery was unknown until almost the end, then I figured it out. Still though I didn't see how it would ultimately resolve, which was exciting. The last few chapters were pure adrenaline.
New author alert!!! And he does not disappoint with a story about Ethan and Melanie that will have you flipping the pages from the get go. Ethan owns Citadel Solutions, a security firm that completes government contracts as well as private security. After a harrowing op, Ethan decides to meet with Melanie, the Manager and sister of an up and coming pop star Nova. Nova has been getting threats and the last one spooked Mel enough to call in the experts…and from there their story begins. No spoilers here as it is a must read if you enjoy romantic suspense, with a stoic Ethan who has been burned in the past and Mel, who lives in the shadows of her sister and is never seen….until Ethan. The story flowed beautifully with descriptions that were spot on, steam, suspense, surprises and a twist near the end I didn’t see coming. The added bonus epilogue…LOVED IT!! *I voluntarily read an advanced copy and expressed my honest opinion*
Duty Unbound is a fantastic romantic suspense. Mel Rivers manages her superstar sister Nova and her career. It takes over her life, and she is exhausted. When one of her sisters fan's starts to get violent they call on Citadel Solution's for help. Ethan Cross is the owner of Citadel and he is one intense guy. He and Mel don't get off on the right foot, however the chemistry between them is off the charts. Once they clear the air, and start working together they can't fight their attraction. This book was full of suspense, spice & a twist I didn't see coming. I really loved this book! I could not put it down and can't wait to read more from Dominic Pierce.
OK, I have some... mixed feelings on this book, but it was a halfway decent story on the suspense side of the 'romantic suspense' equation, and I've read *worse* romance plots before. And I know that's not exactly a glowing endorsement, but that's kind of how the book's left me feeling now that I've finished it.
For anyone who hasn't read the author's bio, his schtick is that he WAS actually a marine and a DoD contractor before he decided to go into romance writing (because hey, why not?), so he gets to 'write what he knows' when it comes to the action scenes. And I'd say it shows... but honestly, I'm not sure that it does. His MMC in this book, Ethan, feels pretty much identical to any other ex-military private security specialist character written by a female author without his background. But his FMC? Mel feels like she was written by a guy. Not necessarily in a terrible 'men writing women' kind of way, but something about both Mel and Nova just didn't click as authentic for me.
Possibly it was because the book as a whole was a sausagefest. Mel and Nova were the only two women (or at least, the only two memorable women - a day after finishing it, I can't think of any other female characters) in there*, and both of them felt fairly two-dimensional for much of the book. Yes, Nova develops hidden depths in the last 25-30% of the book, but there's no real indication of why she's made this sudden u-turn from 'all-narcissistic-drama!diva-all-of-the-time' to 'concerned-and-loving-sister' - and perhaps more importantly, why she couldn't have made it earlier on.
Meanwhile, Mel is SO selfless and unboundaried that what she DESPERATELY needs is therapy, not 'the love of a good man', to fix her issues. Then we have THE biggest elephant in the room about the book for me: Mel's 'big dream' to throw her entire career away so she can be a stay-at-home-mother. And look, I get that this IS a valid choice and something some women genuinely want. I can't understand the desire, or imagine a world in which it's a life I'd want for myself, but it's a valid motivation for a character. That dream and the desire to let go of all her ambition *does* however, take on a whole new vibe when it's the primary underlying motivation that a male author is writing for his FMC, and is part of why his MMC is attracted to her and feels 'safe' loving her. Let's not mince words: in those circumstances, it feels a tad ugly and paternalistic, especially with the current US political climate.
So will I continue with the Citadel Security series? Maybe? Possibly? They're in KU, so it's not like I'm actually paying for them, which is why I do have Book 2 in my library now. But whether I keep going with the series after that will depend a lot on 1/ Whether Mel's motivation turns out to be a one-off in this book, or whether the FMC in the next book also decides to throw away her entire career because her real ambition is to be a stay-at-home mother (at which point I can safely say that anything Mr Pierce writes is going to leave me feeling stabby and abandon the series), and 2/ Whether it continues to be a sausagefest without competent female characters in any role except that of the love interest.
Only time (and actually diving into the next book) will tell.
________
* Oh, wait, no, there was also - briefly - Ethan's mother in the last 25%. The good, sweet, also-two-dimensional 'stay-at-home-on-the-ranch' nurturer who was pretty much exactly who Mel had apparently ALWAYS DREAMED ABOUT BECOMING.
Where do I begin with this new book series & author…..well let me start by saying I’m a HUGE FAN ALREADY of Dominic Pierce and his characters! We heard about Citadel Solutions in Montana Memory by Josie Jade where we were introduced to Jace the tech guy for them. Not only do we see Jace in this story but we meet more of the crew such as Ethan the founder, Logan his second in command and Ty one of the newer members. All of these men have training from Military backgrounds and all have their own story to tell. This story just happens to be Ethan’s. Ethan has always been the protector for his younger sister, friends, anyone who seemed like they needed protecting. Honestly creating Citadel Solutions was the right move after leaving the military, although always wanting to take on the most dangerous situations usually means there is something you’re running from or towards? Is always being the jump in front of a bullet hero how a strong protective man should live his entire life? Could there be more that Ethan is missing out on by always wanting the action and adventure? Mel has spent her entire life living in her little sisters shadow. Mel’s sister Nova is a force to be reckoned with however she’s more like a hurricane than a gentle storm. Mel is full of life, kindness, love, compassion, humor and so much more however she is constantly known as Nova’s Manager. What happens when Nova’s very public career starts to cause not only stress but actual danger for them? Mel will do anything and everything to protect her sister it’s all their mom ever wanted. Mel will put aside her life and dreams to make sure her mom and Nova’s dreams come true, but at what expense? Thankfully Mel is pointed in the direction of Citadel Solutions and Ethan Cross, although if Nova has any say Ethan and his team aren’t needed. Mel spends so much of her life protecting Nova that Nova is clueless to truly all that goes on around her and her world. Ethan will stop at nothing to complete this job, but what happens when the original client isn’t the one who really needs protection? What happens when the wallflower is finally being seen for the first time? Can two people actually find one another in the most vulnerable point in their lives? Can Mel learn that her life and dreams are just as important as Nova’s. Will Ethan ever take a good look at the choices he’s been making and realize that sometimes life is better at a slower pace. Can Mel truly let Ethan in and see what her real dreams are for her life & allow him to show her that they may be more alike than she ever imagined! When two people finally let go and truly enjoy each other in the most beautiful way it’s like fireworks going off! I absolutely couldn’t put this book down once I started it. This book has all my favorite things such as action, mystery, threats, humor, love, passion, romance, family and so much more…..but I must say my favorite thing is what Mel truly wants for her life because I long for the same thing. Thank you Dominic for creating and sharing your characters I absolutely can’t wait to read more!
When two of my favorite romantic suspense authors recommend a brand-new author, it is definitely motivation to try them. I was not disappointed, as this book reminded me of Janie Crouch's Linear Tactical books and Josie Jade's Resting Warrior Ranch series. The characters were complex, and the action scenes kept me glued to the pages.
Ethan is the founder and head of Citadel Solutions, the elite security firm he started after he left the military. He has a reputation for being cool under fire and impossible to distract. If he's haunted by the things he experienced, well, staying busy keeps the ghosts at bay. Being hired to protect pop star and diva Nova Rivers is just another day at the office.
Nova's sister, Mel, has devoted her life to making Nova's dreams come true. She's quiet, blends into the background, and puts everyone else's needs before her own.
Ethan's first meeting with Nova and Mel doesn't go well. Nova laughs off the idea of a dangerous stalker, resists any notion of restricting her activities, and generally behaves like a spoiled brat. Mel's business-focused attitude rubs Ethan the wrong way because she reminds him of his ex-fiancée. He turns down the job initially, but reconsiders when the stalker strikes again.
The mix of suspense and romance was very well done. Ethan and his team settle in to protect Nova and Mel while investigating the stalking situation. As he spends more time with them, Ethan begins to see them differently. He is drawn unwillingly to Mel, seeing past her professional façade to her warm, caring nature. Mel doesn't know what to think about Ethan. He's the first person to see her, from her growing exhaustion and burnout to the dreams of home and family portrayed in her paintings. At the same time, Mel sees past Ethan's control to the memories that haunt him. I liked seeing how happy he was when he was with her.
The suspense builds as they prepare for Nova's multi-city tour. Each city brings new challenges and escalating threats. Each one added more intensity to the team's determination to identify and stop whoever is behind them. Just as I thought I had it figured out, an unexpected twist threw my theory out the window. The final confrontation was a nail-biter and kept me glued to the pages to the end.
Once the danger is past, Ethan and Mel will have to decide if their burgeoning relationship has a future. I liked their honesty with each other and seeing how they worked things out. The epilogue was terrific and I can't wait to see them in future books.
DUTY UNBOUND is the first instalment in Dominic Pierce’s contemporary adult CITADEL SOLUTION romantic suspense series. This is former special ops soldier turned security specialist Ethan Cross, and PA Melanie ‘Mel’ Rivers’ story line.
Told from dual first person perspectives (Mel and Ethan) DUTY UNBOUND follows the crew at Citadel Solutions as they are hired to protect rising music star Nova Rivers. Nova has a stalker, and the threats are becoming more personal and dangerous, so with the recommendation of the local police, Nova’s sister and PA Melanie Rivers contracts Citadel Solutions for their services in security and protection including for the upcoming tour. Along with overzealous fans and determined paparazzi, Ethan has his hands full with the stubborn diva, and the possibility of losing his heart to Melanie Rivers. Melanie is on the edge of burnout with her sister’s constant demands but Melanie never expected to find herself falling for the man hired to protect her sister.
The world building focuses on the building relationship between Mel and Ethan, as Ethan struggles to uncover the truth. As the incidences threatening Nova become more personal, someone else takes aim at our story line heroine.
The relationship between Mel and Ethan begins as a professional assignment but Ethan quickly realizes there is much more to Mel than he could have ever imagined. Mel made a promise years before to help guide her sister in her career but the Melanie is quickly discovering there is more to life than being on call 24/7. Ethan is determined to prove Mel is worthy of her own happily ever after, and a weekend away brings our couple closer together. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.
We are introduced to Ethan’s team: security specialist and second in command Logan Kane, Jace Monroe, and Ty Hughes; Nova’s dance choreographer Dexter Deeds, and Ethan’s parents Margaret and Doug Cross. Logan’s story line is next.
DUTY UNBOUND is a story of obsession and madness, family and friendships, relationships and love. The character driven premise is edgy, action packed and intriguing; the characters are dynamic and determined; the romance is seductive.
In this action-packed debut romance, former marine Dominic Pierce tells an engaging story filled with romance and danger.
Pop star Nova Rivers has been receiving threats designed to make her halt her tour. Filling the role of the stereotypical celebrity, she puts on a persona of disinterested nonchalance. Her sister/manager, Mel, insists on upping security, hiring the highly recommended Citadel Solutions. Ethan and his team are true professionals, doing everything possible to keep Nova safe.
While Ethan has preconceived ideas about both Nova and Mel, as he implements security measures and shadows the women, he begins to see both in a new light. Their public images don't truly reflect who they are. He is especially drawn to Mel who, beneath her efficient and professional facade, is actually a warm and caring person. Mel is successful in her role, managing Nova's tour, calendar and life in spectacular fashion when she actually longs for a simple life of love and family. The bigger the peek behind the curtain, the more attracted he is to the quietly beautiful Mel.
Ethan is a nuanced lead male character - he is an ex-military badass, is carrying quite a bit of baggage from past relationships but can also be a loving, intuitive and supportive partner. While he fights to remain professional, his affection for Mel continues to grow until he breaks his own rules to become involved with her.
Ethan's and Mel's relationship develops amidst the frenetic activity that is Nova preparing for her upcoming tour. She is determined to move forward with her performances despite the threats coming her way. While Ethan and team work to keep Nova safe, they are also in a race to identify and neutralize the source of the threats before they escalate further. The action and complexities of the plot keep the story moving forward at a good pace. The complex plot will keep the reader guessing at the identity of the stalker until the very end.
Great debut romance.
Four stars.
This is an honest, voluntary review of an ARC of the story.
Duty Unbound by Dominic Pierce Citadel Solutions #1
~ Excellent introduction to the Citadel Solutions Series written by a new-to-me author ~ Immediately impressed and soon immersed in the story ~ Would gladly read this author again ~
What I liked: * Melanie “Mel” Rivers: younger sister to a pop star, Nova’s manager and problem solver, trying to fulfill her mother’s dream for Nova, painter, put her dreams on hold, attracted to Ethan * Ethan Cross: ex-military, security specialist, leader, strong, lethal skills, team player, professional, good friend, tactful, protective, loves his family, attracted to Mel * The team that will show up (I hope) in future books: Tyler Hughes, Logan Kane, and Jace Monroe ~ each has skills that support and enhance those of the others * Nova Rivers: rising star in the international Pop music scene, energetic, self-centered, a bit of a diva, demanding, rude, irritating…but she grew on me when her true colors emerged * Ethan’s parents and their lifestyle * The plot, pacing, setting, and writing * That I could see Ethan and Melanie living and loving happily forever * That the danger the team was called in to thwart was handled and dealt with efficiently as the team protected Nova and her team * The bodyguard trope with the twist that the love interest is not the one being guarded. * All of it really except…
What I didn’t like: * Who and what I was meant not to like * The impact duty had on the main characters and the way it impacted their lives * Thinking about stalkers, overzealous fans, obsession, the way duty can be twisted, and the way some people put fame before family or much of anything else * Having to wait for the next book
Did I like this book? Yes Would I read more by this author? Yes
Thank you to the author for the ARC ~ This is my honest review.
This is a romantic suspense story that hooks you in. For me it was to see how a male author writes romance as I've not read many, so I was intrigued.
The main character, Ethan Cross, is the disciplined head of Citadel Solutions, a top-tier security firm. He approaches his current mission—protecting a famous pop star named Nova Rivers from a dangerous stalker—with strict professionalism, determined not to mix work with personal feelings. I loved the Citadel guys, at the beginning we get a great insight into how they work together and have become a well oiled team.
Then he meets Melanie Rivers, Nova's sister. Melanie is the quiet, strong woman holding her famous sister's chaotic life together, putting her own dreams aside. It satisfying to watch the highly observant Ethan recognise and appreciate Melanie's selfless nature, a side that everyone else seems to overlook.
Melanie was a a push over when it came to Nova, being the younger sister, she was groomed at an early age that their lives revolved around Nova becoming a star, and Mel slotted into her place. For someone who stood up to almost everyone else, she had absolutely no back-bone when it came to Nova, although she was good at calming her down.
The relationship between Mel & Ethan is a slow burn, building with intense attraction and genuine emotional respect. The book balances the action of the unknown stalker story line with the their connection.
The plot keeps you guessing, offering enough real tension and unexpected twists to keep the suspense.
The ending was a little disappointing for me, for Mel to go from full on 'work every hour she is awake' to becoming a homemaker was a huge jump - but it was her dream and she managed to make it happen.
Duty Unbound by Dominic Pierce is a captivating, pulse-pounding romantic suspense that delivers all the genre’s best elements—intense danger, forbidden attraction, and a hero who’s as emotionally guarded as he is physically lethal. Ethan Cole has one job: protect pop superstar Nova Rivers from a dangerously persistent stalker. As a decorated military vet turned elite personal security operative, Ethan is the best in the business—professional, detached, and always in control.
But he never planned on Mel Rivers.
Mel has spent her life staying out of the spotlight her sister was born to dominate. She’s quiet, stubborn, and absolutely uninterested in being babysat by a man like Ethan—stoic, serious, and frustratingly unreadable. Yet as the stalker’s threats become more personal and the line between protector and partner starts to blur, Ethan finds himself breaking every rule he’s lived by—especially when his heart becomes the most vulnerable target of all.
Pierce’s writing shines with cinematic pacing and emotional depth. The chemistry between Ethan and Mel is deliciously slow-burn, laced with sharp banter, mutual resistance, and the kind of tension that simmers just beneath the surface. Mel is no damsel—her quiet strength and refusal to be sidelined make her a standout heroine, while Ethan’s internal struggle between duty and desire adds complexity to his hardened exterior. The suspense plot is tight and smart, with a stalker who feels uncomfortably close at all times, raising the stakes with every page. But it’s the romance—raw, real, and undeniably earned—that makes Duty Unbound unforgettable.
This is an absorbing page-turner that will keep readers sitting on the edge-of their- seats until the very last page. Readers will fall in love with the very interesting characters who seem aloof and unemotional, but who are actually hiding their caring and sensitive feelings underneath this tough façade.
Ethan Cross is a security expert who has established Citadel Solutions, a high-state security. He and his team run their business with military precision and are considered superior to everyone else.
Meli Rivers is the manager for her sister, Nova, who is obsessed with becoming a famous singer. Meli ignores her own dreams as she tirelessly devotes her entire life to supporting Nova’s obsession. However, since no one ever notices her, Meli feels invisible.
Eerily, during Nova’s tour, she begins to receive threatening letters, emails and packages. Meli, who is scared for her sister’s life, calls Citadel Solutions to protect Nova from her dangerous stalker.
When Ethan and Meli meet, both of these reserved people surprisingly, feel a very strong and unusual attraction! Meli is very impressed when Ethen actually notices her real feelings. On the other hand, Meli, manages to see underneath Ethan’s emotionless disposition.
This book will keep readers on the edge of their seats with its non-stop action, riveting suspense, exciting twists, and multidimensional characters.
WOW, just WOW!!! The author’s debut story grabbed the attention of this reader from the first page to the last. Amazingly, since I’ll confess I wasn’t sure that a male author would be able to write such a fantastic story. My bad. This story belongs to Ethan Cross and Melanie Rivers. Ethan, a former Marine, and founder of Citadel Security, is a straight-laced security professional who takes his assignments seriously. On his personal side, he’s been burned before and has no desire to open his heart again to a career oriented woman. Especial after his career minded ex . Melanie is totally dedicated to her sister Nova as her personal assistant and fixer. Nova is an up and coming singer who is a diva and has Melanie constantly on the go, solving problems, making arrangements for a tour etc. But behind the scenes, Melanie dreams of a home, husband and children. Dreams that are just that, dreams. When a stalker takes interest in Nova, Citadel Security is called in. While Nova was an obvious diva, Ethan realizes his first impression of Melanie were wrong, especially as he gets to know her. As the danger continues Ethan and his team have to figure out who is the real culprit and the victim. Making this a very engaging story with well developed characters. I was entrusted a copy of this book. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
Every once in awhile I take a chance on a new author and most times I'm not very lucky but Dominic Pierce knocked it out of the park with Duty Unbound! Bodyguard stories are one of my personal favorites and Ethan Cross and Melanie Rivers story kept me turning the pages late into the night. Mel's sister Nova is an up and coming pop star. The problem? Nora has a stalker that has somehow gotten into their gated house and Mel as her manager plans to take this security breach seriously. Ethan Cross is the owner of Citadel Solutions one of the most highly respected private security firms around. Ethan's first impression of the Rivers sisters isn't great and he feels that they would be better served by hiring someone not as strict as he is. Nova doesn't want or like change but after some gentle nudging from her sister realizes that she should be working with the best for her security. As Ethan and Mel dance around each other the danger keeps escalating and a multi city tour adds to the chaos. So if you're willing to take a chance on a new author, trust me you won't be disappointed with Duty Unbound. It was told from dual POV and it is loaded with action, suspense, laughter and some heat! I am looking forward to the next book in the Citadel Solutions and I'm excited to say that I have found a new author to read!
Suspense, danger and hot romance as we are introduced to former Marine, Ethan Cross. He left the military and started his own security firm, Citadel Solutions, and in the states or overseas, they take on the most difficult rescue or protection operations. When it appears that a stalker has pop sensation Nova Rivers in their sites, his team is recommended to oversee both her protection and her upcoming tour. Nova is managed by her sister Melanie and although she admits that her sister can be a bit of a diva, she loves her and does the best to manage her career. When the meeting with Ethan doesn’t go well and he declines to take over Nova’s protection, Mel pleads with him to reconsider. He feels an attraction to Mel, but the job must come first. He notices that Mel sets aside her own life to care for her sister and only her painting brings her joy. She is used to being overlooked, but Ethan seems to “see” her. During the tour, his team are able to neutralize various threats, but as his relationship with Mel evolves, the stalker becomes more erratic. When Mel turns up missing, has she been taken in order to get to Nova? Using all of their resources, will he and his team find her before it is too late? WOW!! Loved it!! I can’t wait for the next book in this series! I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation for an honest review. (paytonpuppy)
Gripping Romantic Suspense Duty and emotion don’t mix—at least that’s the rule Ethan Cross lives by. As the head of Citadel Solutions, he’s used to keeping his distance. But when a protection detail puts him in close contact with Melanie Rivers—the quiet, capable sister of a global pop sensation—that rule starts to unravel. A dangerous stalker is escalating. Messages and letters are one thing, but it’s the dead roses left in the kitchen that push Melanie to call in Citadel. Who is stalking Nova, and what chilling move will he make next? As Ethan works to track a threat that keeps slipping through the cracks, he finds himself drawn to Melanie—the woman who holds everything together behind the scenes, yet longs for something more. She’s not the client. She’s not the mission. But she’s everything he didn’t see coming. This story pulls you in with high-stakes tension and doesn’t let go. Ethan is all control and discipline, while Melanie’s quiet strength and selflessness make her easy to root for. Watching her finally be seen—and Ethan wrestle with the lines he's not supposed to cross—gives this slow-burn romance emotional weight. With danger closing in and boundaries shifting, Duty Unbound delivers both pulse-pounding suspense and heartfelt connection. Perfect for readers who love a protective hero, a woman finding her own voice, and a romance worth the risk.
I loved this book. Like, cancel-your-plans, stay-up-too-late, one-more-chapter kind of love.
Ethan Cross is the kind of broody, alpha protector you want leading a security team—and maybe starring in your daydreams. He’s all business until Melanie Rivers shows up and completely throws him off his game. And honestly? I was HERE for it.
Mel was such a awesome heroine. Quiet, smart, and always putting others first, but with this quiet strength that you just can’t ignore. Watching Ethan slowly realize she’s the one who truly matters—not the pop star sister he was hired to protect—was so satisfying. Their chemistry? Off the charts but not overdone. Just the right mix of tension and tenderness.
The suspense side of the story had me hooked too. I was guessing about the stalker and kept changing who I thought it was! There were just enough twists to keep it interesting without feeling over the top.
For a debut novel, this was incredibly good. The writing was smooth, the pacing never dragged, and I cared about every single character. If you like protector romance, suspense that actually delivers, and a hero who falls hard for the woman he wasn’t expecting… this one's for you! I’m already counting down to the next book in the Citadel Solutions series.
I really enjoyed this one! It pulled me in from start to finish and quickly had me engaged with Melanie and Ethan quickly grew on me as well. I loved the interaction and friendship/brotherhood that Ethan has with his core team and their banter. Melanie is scared for her sister as she seems to have attracted a stalker that is escalating. After the break in and "gifts" left behind she calls the cops and they recommend Citadel for security. Nova, Melanie's sister, does not make things easy and after a bad first impression and initial no, Ethan decides to take the case when Melanie shares her file of notes/letters that have been sent and explains a few things that caused some wrong assumptions the day before. They get to work quickly in fixing the security concerns as they expect the stalker to continue to escalate. Ethan is drawn to Melanie but plans to keep everything professional. Melanie feels it as well but is overwhelmed and overworked with trying to get everything ready for Nova's tour and fix all the problems that keep popping up as well as the anxiety from the stalker. I loved their talks and how they got to know each other while they kept things from initially crossing the line. It was obvious though that they had a connection and I loved how Ethan saw Melanie and picked up on so many things for her. I really enjoyed the way that he supported her as well. This story was well written and engaging and flowed well. It had good suspense and had a few twists here and there. I enjoyed how the tension was built and the romance and suspense was woven together. I am super excited for the next book in the series!!!! I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
