This is my first Kait Flynn book, and definitely not my last. I appreciate a good second chance romance, and this one just made sense. It's not too long, which I also like every now and again.
Rhett and Pepper had been everything to each other, first kiss, first love, they had gotten married and were happy until they weren't. His job as a firefighter took priority as well as his military reserves and she had Kiss My Grits, which was her pride and joy. They have been divorced for three years but it doesn't mean they don't still care about each other.
While on deployment Rhett and his buddies came under attack and while getting their gear they made a pact that if they survived this they would go home and "woo their women". Rhett had gotten a shoulder injury so he came back a little later and was anxious to see his ex.
All the things he put off around their house that never got fixed he vowed to change that and get it done. Pepper was skeptical, the promises had been made and broken before. Would it be any different this time? He's really trying but will she give him a second chance?
5 Star Review The Second Chance Bachelor (Heroes of Huckleberry Creek #4) by Kait Flynn
Kait Flynn is a new author to me and I enjoyed this second chance at love story.
This is a second chance at love story for firefighter Rhett and his ex wife Pepper set in Huckleberry Creek.
After a near miss on an overseas deployment Rhett returns home determined to win back the woman he put second to his career.
Volunteering to be a part of a charity bachelor auction he hopes to set in motion a chain of events that may win Pepper back.
Thanks to her friends, Pepper wins a date with her ex husband and Rhett is focursed on showing her how much he has changed and to convince her to take another chance on him.
It was entertaining to watch them push and pull dynamic as worked hard to get his second chance, he was focused and determined.
I liked that Pepper was feisty and a little cautious.
Can Rhett convince Pepper that he is all in? One click and find out.
This is the first book that I have read in the series so I didn’t know the characters as much as I should have but overall I didn’t feel lost.
Rhett MacAvoy is on a deployment overseas and realizes how much he made a mess out of his relationship with his ex-wife and wants to get home and repair the relationship.
Pepper DeLuca had her heart broken by Rhett and how she took a backseat to whatever he had going on his life so when he comes back and says he wants another chance is she willing to risk her heart again?
This book was cute and had lots of laughs and you know how much he is willing to change to fight for his marriage. The book ends on a happy note and you know that these two have their priorities properly on each other and the future.
Pepper and Rhett—they married right out of high school but things didn’t work out, so they divorced. During his last deployment, he and his buddies vowed that if they made it back, they’d pursue the women they’d been too chicken to go after; and after that, he got hit and could’ve died if he hadn’t been tended to so well. So when he shows back up two months after the rest of his group does with a shoulder that’s not yet ready for his normal work as a firefighter, he ends up on a date with her, after which he starts on the honey-do list he never got around to when they were married. After reconnecting and having some serious talks, they decide to give it another go. Sweet story, mostly believable, but needed to be longer to develop better. A few editing issues, which isn’t the norm for this writer.

This was a quick and easy read. A low angst second chance romance between Pepper, a cook and diner owner and Rhett, a fire-fighter and reserve soldier. After marrying young, the divorced a few years ago after finding themselves distant. Rhett was putting his work first. After returning from a deployment, he works at getting Pepper back. To be fair he doesn't have to try very hard. Yes it's nice to see him realise his mistakes and fix the broken parts of himself, but having always loved him, Pepper didn't take too much persuading! I liked the MMCs, Rhett was a pretty swoony ex husband that even Peppers friends still liked and fought for (which i feel like says a lot!). The only reason I'm deducting a star is because this kind of read is just too easy and simple and I want a bit more!
is the only thing that makes all this worth it. Rhett and is military brothers made a pact, that if they survived this last deployment they'd seize the moment with that special girl back home! Rhett and Pepper were childhood sweethearts, married young, and royally messed up their relationship due to lack of communication. Rhett has extra time to realize what he lost, what he wants, and how to acquire getting his only love back because he was injured. His friends made it back safe before him and the 3 previous stories tell their tales of how they won their girls. Now it's Rhett's and Pepper's turn to figure it out and yes, get their happily ever after! Enjoy 🤓
Rhett and Pepper have a history together. They were so in love with one another, they were married, they were each other's firsts, and they were each other's heartache. When Rhett chose being a firefighter and military reserves first, he lost the one woman who mattered. Now he's back and he's going to do what he can to fight for her. But there are a lot of broken promises that he made. And while she hasn't gone anywhere while running Kiss My Gritts, she also hasn't forgotten Rhett and what they had and lost. Now it's time for another chance, but after 3 years, can they have what they had before? The book had heartache, love, lust, passion, friendship, and forgiveness.
I've been waiting for Pepper and Rhett's story for a while, and it did not disappoint.
They're divorced but still love each other too much to move on. When Rhett returns from deployment, he's determined to show Pepper that he is a changed man and that they deserve a second chance.
These two were high school sweethearts and knew each other so well that you just know they belong together. Even all their friends encouraged them.
I loved seeing the characters from the other books making an appearance.
- standalone - second chance - high school sweethearts - firefighter / military
A quick, easy, low angst novella that can easily be read in an evening. This was a nice second chance romance set between Rhett and Pepper who were married previously but are currently divorced. At the time of their marriage, Rhett was more invested in his job than that of his marriage. He makes a lot of changes to show Pepper he means business. While I didn’t read any of the other books in this series, it’s a complete standalone.
If you enjoy second chances and rooting for them to get together, then this book is for you. Rhett and Pepper are both people who deserve happiness, and I just couldn't help but pull for them to work it out. I love this whole series. It's got colorful characters, sweet stories, and great friendships. Anyone who likes a sweet love story will like this one.
This is the first book I have read by this author and I wasn’t disappointed. Second Chance Bachelor is firefighter Rhett and his ex wife Pepper’s second chance at love when a charity bachelor auction brings them together once again. It’s a small town romance and I was captivated by this well written, short but entertaining, sweet and spicy love story.
Short, sweet, and to the point. Honestly, what more could you ask for than a military, firefighter, high school sweetheart, small town, second chance Romance?! The length was a bonus, because I do love a Good short book, but surprisingly enough, I wouldn’t have been upset if this one were a bit longer!!
This one really gets you, right in the feels. Rhett knows what he wants, and this second chance romance is all about him finding his way back there. Injured during deployment, but now back in his hometown and trying to win back his ex, Pepper.
This story was so sweet to read the characters were wonderful and well rounded. They made mistakes they fessed up to it And tried to make it better. The author takes you through 1 marriage with a firefighter and how he and his ex-wife grew up and fixed their mistakes.
I liked that Rhett was honest with Pepper about his intentions and for the most part kept communicating as he went. Going for the promotion without telling her was a stupid decision but he got called on it and apologized. It was good to see character growth on both sides. Nice wrap up for the series.
Second Chance romance is my go to for my reading pleasure.♥️ The Second Chance Bachelor is a perfect, quick, all of the feels romance for when you just have that need to read a happily ever after journey! Loved it!
Rhett let Pepper go three years ago, but the pact he made with his friends means that it is time to get her back. Now that his shoulder has nearly healed, he comes back to town hoping that he can make a plan. Pepper's friends definitely have a plan to get them back together.
Flynn aims straight for the heart. From the heat of romance to the heartbreak of life, The Second Chance Bachelor is temptation at it's most endearing. Rhett and Pepper are the perfect blend of sweet and spicy.
A great standalone, in a series about second chance lovers who realized his mistakes so he can win back the love of his life. It was a nice quick read I had done in 2 days. Definitely going to go read the first 3 books now. Highly recommend.
This was the best of the series I feel. Second chance to repair his failed marriage. Will his ex be willing to give it. Wonderful characters and amazing storyline.
While I liked the characters, I couldn't shake the feeling that there wasn't much going on overall. The spices were just okay, a notch above vanilla and quickly skimmed over. Despite the author's smooth writing style, the editing could use a brush up too.
HEAs are always the Best He failed once or probably many times before the divorce Now he was back to prove he had changed Watching the succeed was a joy & well written Received a free copy
This is the last of a really good series. Rhett was injured on his last deployment with his friends and decided he needed to get Pepper back in his life. How they get their HEA is not to be missed.

Wow! This was a quick read because I honestly didn’t want to put it down. Rhett & Pepper’s story is soo good!! A spicy second chance love story set in the small town of Huckleberry Creek. Rhett doing everything in his power to show Pepper he has changed definitely is swoon worthy. Pepper is hesitant because she doesn’t want to risk getting her heart broke again, but their chemistry is still undeniable! This book had me LOL so many times. I’m definitely looking forward to more of Huckleberry Creek- Elizabeth
Is a slow burn, soldier second chance romance. Very sweet, yet predictable. Left me wanting more.
*Here's my honest opinion, it was a lot of words for a little bit of movement. I guess I was hoping for more, than what I got. I didn't hate it. When I say wanting more, like more action, substance....does that make sense?!? I do like that they ended up working on their relationship and getting together.
