Margaret Tanner is an award winning, best selling author.
As well as writing historical novels set in frontier Australia she has discovered a love for writing Western Romance. Her novella, Edwina of Connecticut is one of the 50 novels in the American Mail Order Bride series. Christmas Cowboy is in the Western Christmas Anthology, Silver Belles And Stetsons.
. She has had numerous short stories published over the years, but writing Historical romance novels is her passion.
Her favourite historical period is the 1st World War. Not only has she painstakingly researched this era, but was fortunate enough to make a poignant pilgrimage to the battlefields of Gallipoli (in Turkey), France and Belgium.
She is married with three grown up sons, and two gorgeous grand-daughters. Margaret lives in Australia. She has recently retired from work, and hopes to concentrate on her writing.
The story is a clean, historical western where life and death change the future. Since she was ten years old, Imogen has lived with her Uncle, Grayson, and Aunt, Muriel, after the death of her parents. She grew up in their household, but worked for her livelihood, not for pay, but for shelter, food, and the necessities of life. Imogen has a talent for drawing and has sketched and done watercolors for the Rigby’s jewelry business. She was raised with their three sons, John, Edward, and George, but she was closest to John.
The story begins in the 1870s in San Francisco with the unbandaging of John after a nasty accident. When his fiancée, Virginia Daintree, sees the scared, puckered red skin, she shrieks and declares there is no way she can marry him—“I won’t marry such a disfigured creature.” John goes into depression and stays in his room. What a shock when Aunt Muriel calls Imogen to her parlor with a proposal, offering her art school, but in exchange, she must marry John, and the two of them move to Colorado to the family hunting lodge. After a year, they could have the marriage annulled.
In another part of Colorado, Tyrone ‘Rone’ Denton had gone to town, and when he returned, his entire ranch was still smoldering, his cattle had been slaughtered, and a message, a bird drawn on a piece of paper, was left by the man known as The Birdman, Harvey Jessop. Rone, working as a bounty hunter, had helped capture Jessop and his gang, many of whom were hanged, but not Harvey, and now he had escaped prison. With nothing left, he heads to Utah to warn his bounty hunter friends—and then he plans to track Birdman. The story will have Imogen and John living in complete isolation at the lodge. Even Walter, who works for Grayson, will meet Imogen with a cart of food supplies once a month. They are making it; they have a garden, John hunts and fishes, and they live together, but not as a married couple in the beginning. All will change when John learns how low his family can be and decides he wants to have a real marriage. While it isn’t a marriage in love, there is friendship, and their marriage leads to a baby on the way. Fate has different plans, and Imogen is widowed.
Rone is tracking Birdman and is shocked to come upon a deceased man at the river and then meet his young widow. How will she manage on the mountain alone? Will she move to town? Rone is kind, but he is on a mission and only passing through. But what about when he finds Birdman?
The story has the good, the bad, and the ugly in people, and family can be the worst. The story was a page-turning tale with a colorful cast of characters. I liked how upbeat Imogen is, especially helping John after the accident. Their marriage of convenience was to help both of them and only to be in name, but isolation and reality made it a real marriage, even if it was only for a short while. The unexpected circumstances that will bring Rone into Imogen’s life become a lifeline for both of them.
NOTE: I read this book with my paid subscription to Kindle Unlimited.
Picture this: San Francisco, 1870s. John, a man with a face that could stop a clock, is dumped by his fiancée and left to pick up the pieces. Enter Aunt Muriel, who proposes a marriage of convenience between John and Imogen. The deal? They move to Colorado, and after a year, they can annul the marriage. Imogen agrees, and they set off into the unknown. As they navigate the challenges of the wilderness, they finally form a romantic bond, but then tragedy strikes. Enter Rone, who returns home to find his home in ashes and animals killed by a nemesis from his past, so he sets out on a path of revenge and won't stop till he finds him. Will Imogen find true love with Rone, the rugged ex bounty hunter, or will the circumstances of both of their past be too much to handle?
Imogen grew up with the Rigby family, they actually just let her stay with them because she was an artist and could design their jewelry. They had 3 sons but John was her favorite. He was burned severly on his face and his fiancee broke the engagement. The Rigby's blackmailed her to marry John. Now John is dead he was found by Tyrone and he helped her. This family was so cruel that it made me want to cry. The Rigby's treated her like she was less than them, but she was so much more. I am glad Tyrone realized what a jewel Imogen really is. Great western book and series.
Isolated Imogen is a story, that will make you cry and you mad. Poor Imogen loses her family, but goes to live with her aunt and uncle. Their son, John becomes her best friend. She is treated no better than a slave, but has a roof over head. A terrible accident, scars John for life and the Rigby family can’t abide the remarks. They want him out of their lives and Imogen too. They go into seclusion as a married couple, but have no interaction with anybody. John is depressed and Imogen won’t leave him alone. One day a stranger comes to their mountaintop home and her life is never the same again.
Imogene was a relative of a very wealthy and influential family. She was an orphan, so they treated her as a servant most of the time. Due to circumstances beyond her control, the family insisted she marry the youngest son. John had been burned in an accident. His fiancé dropped him like a hot potato due to his scarring. He and Imogene married, but it was merely a friendship based marriage. Sadly, John passed away, and that same day, Tyrone, who goes by Rone, came into their lives. Will Imogene be able to talk Rone into marriage? Very sweet epilogue.
I love how devoted Imogen is to supporting John and shielding him from his parents vile ways, she is a true friend who gives everything to the end. And she is rewarded by finding a true love of her own, a beautiful and heartwarming tale of resilience and hope. I read this on Kindle Unlimited.
Imogen was raised by the Rigsby Family in San Francisco, California. As she grew up , her best friend was their son John. John suffered and accident at the hand of his Fiancé. He had terrible scars on one side of his face and neck. The story starts here. Read and learn how it turns out!!!!!❤️
