When Harper Evans meets the mysterious and brooding Luke Campbell, she’s drawn to him in ways she can’t explain. But Luke harbors a dark secret—he’s not entirely human. Haunted by a blood bound promise, Luke believes he’s incapable of love and too dangerous to be with anyone, especially someone as warm as Harper.
Harper, however, is no stranger to pain. Betrayal and savagery left her heart and face scarred, as she’s spent every day since running from the monster of her past. The last thing she wants is to fall for someone who can’t offer her the love and safety she craves. But Harpers pull is undeniable, and every moment she shares with Luke leaves her craving more.
As their connection deepens, Harper finds herself torn between fear and desire, knowing that Luke’s cryptid form could shatter everything. Meanwhile, Luke must confront the truth of his heart—can he risk loving a woman who deserves a future, even if he believes he’s too broken to offer it?
In this steamy, paranormal romance filled with need and suspense, two souls collide in a wave of passion, fear, and redemption. Will their love survive the storm, or will the dark secrets bound to their hearts tear them apart forever?
Lacy Renee writes stories about love that refuses to break—especially when tested by shadows, secrets, and the supernatural. Drawn to mythology and the unseen currents that shape everyday life, she explores romance where danger sharpens desire and vulnerability becomes a form of courage. Whether her characters are facing restless spirits, ancient rivalries, or the quiet fractures of a love on the brink, Lacy is captivated by the moment when two wounded souls choose each other anyway.
When she isn’t weaving the supernatural and emotion onto the page, Lacy’s life is rooted in the wild edges of the Pacific Northwest, where she works alongside her two children on their secluded property. Surrounded by forest, animals, and the occasional escaped chicken, she draws inspiration from the land’s raw beauty and lingering mystery. It’s there—between mist and moonlight—that her stories take shape, inviting readers into worlds where love burns brighter in the dark and passion carries just enough danger to leave a mark. Welcome to all moonlit hearts and midnight readers!
Such an amazing story! While it is not one that I normally read, I still ended up loving it. The only thing I did not like was the conversations and such in third person. It would have been fine if the, least what seemed to povs, changed multiple times in one chapter. Overall an amazing story!
“Shock flitted through him at the newly developed difficulty to control the cryptid gave him pause for concern.” This sentence was the last drop. It wasn’t the only wrong sentence, but the last in a string of them that made this book almost unreadable. It’s written in third person, but it constantly changes POV, sometimes from one sentence to the next, only to go back after one sentence. It was hard to follow who was talking or thinking what. So I just gave up. It was becoming a chore.
This cover is stunning! if you are a dual POV kind of person, you should know this is in 3rd person. I'm a dual POV kind of girl. It did take me a minute to get into the book because of this, but I'm glad I kept going it was good. this is an open door spice, but I wouldn't expect anything crazy. touch her and die vibes for sure. I wouldn't say that this is a slow burn. There is nothing slow about their relationship. This gave a fated mate's vibe. some dark shit happens at the very beginning. and this will suck you in, with no escape until you finish. So please check your triggers. I can't wait to read more!
It's one of the good fantasy romance reads this year with harper and luke dynamics was really good with many twists and turns and how the villain is killed🔥🔥
3.5 ⭐️ What you should know - 💀It's in third person, not dual/multi pov 🖤It suddenly shifts from talking about one person to someone completely different -I got lost a couple of times 🗡 DARK romance, so check the TW 💀based in Scotland but doesn't use any Scottish terms or phrases 🖤the copy I read had a huge amount of errors in it, tense mix ups, spelling, general editing, missing words and even the wrong names were used in the story and in the authors note at the end.
Spice level- 🌶 open door, nothing kinky, limited encounters, short-lived encounters (not going on for pages) There is biting, but it's not a sex thing- its complicated, but i can't say anymore.
TROPES Badd ass fmc Touch her and be deleted It's not a slow burn as it claims to be, it's more insta love/fated mates as there's not much slow about it.
It starts by throwing you in the deep end of some dark shipt! Just drawing you in from the start. Then it goes slow - for three days, I put this down and picked it up again, but I AM GLAD I continued with it. By the end of the book it was 01:14am, and I was wondering where the time had gone!
Harper is an amazing main character, she's incredibly strong both mentally and physically, she has a heart of pure gold, she's a natural fighter and yet when sje sees red flags she doesnt always run... the side characters stood out in this also, and I'm hoping the next book will bring one or two of them from the sidelines as I'd love to know more about any of them. However my favourite is the doctor or the best friend.
I loved this take on shifters! I've never heard the term cryptids before, so this was all new to me. How they shift, the way they war between human and creature, the way they have talismans to aid control, and then the general the lore and depth behind the creature was brilliant! Yet there are still many questions left unanswered ready for book 2.
Personally I feel the story and characters were incredible, but it just was not written well, multiple povs would have done the book so many favours, as would a decent editor because then the way the reader gets lost between perspectives would have been caught (along with the editing and spelling erorrs). There was plenty of world building - sometimes in the wrong place because you fins out something is happening, so the character walks in to a new place and rather than getting on with wjat we need to know, the author decides to just take a pause and describe the surrounding in its ever so tiny detailed entirety. Frustrating. But I'm impatient and need to know what happens, so I just skimmed it, read the I.portant bit, then went back to read the bit I tossed aside as unimportant at that time.
It was a good story, i hope a publisher picks this up and helps edit it to become the amazing story it should be. And I hope to read many more books from this world, I want to know what happens in Greece, what happens with the doctor, the best friends, his family... There are so many options for book 2!
Well worth the read, I'm normally a wolf/ gargoyle/ dragon/ vamp shifter girl. This was my first sea creature and my first cryptid.
Madison/Harper fled her home and changed her name after her ex, James, subjected her to a horrific attack. Now living in Scotland, she meets Luke, who has a kelpie bound inside him; with things growing between them and her ex James still hunting her, she is unsure if she and Luke are safe.
This is a fantastic read. It starts with a bang, drawing you in from the start.
Harper is an amazing character, she's strong, a fighter who just wants to be safe. Luke, while an amazing character, stands out more due to his dual nature with the kelpie (side note where do I find my own?).
This is a fast-paced dark romance with slow-burn spice, so do check the trigger warnings.
I loved this take on shifters; well, cryptids, how they are bound into the body of a human is definitely a first for me, but it's written well, with plenty of world building given. Fantastic read, and I can see many more from this world, especially Declan and who and what is the high seeker.
In Loving Resilience, Book 1 in the Cryptid Keeper Series, is such a captivating read. Lacey Renee does a fantastic job building a world and story that draws you in. Harper is the very definition of courage and strength, and I admire her character growth. I love her interactions with Luke and the Kelpie, she certainly keeps them on their toes. If you enjoy books with paranormal romance, a resilient FMC, a MMC who falls first, and some steamy scenes, you need to read this one!
Tropes: Slow burn Touch her and die He falls first Secrets
3.75 ⭐️ round up I’ll start out with the beginning was a little rough as it was a struggle to get through and it didn’t draw in my attention. However, I did keep going and I’m glad I did. Things started to make more sense and then I was invested in knowing what was going to happen. I love how the FMC went to a whole new country to start over and the way the MMC fell for her. It was a sweet love story.
This was a uniquely written book! I enjoyed it quite a bit, even though the pov was in the authors. I stuck it out as I have a hard time keeping up with books in this pov, I really did enjoy it. That's really the only thing I wish was different about the book. I have never read a shifter story quite like this one.
This is a unique take on criptids/shifters. It was a good story with nice character growth and world building. Some dark themes but not incredibly detailed with it. I really liked the mcs together and had a good spice to story ratio.
I love the cover of this book! This book had me hooked right from the start and i can't wait till i read more from Lacy. The story was so good and the characters were just perfect
