Serial Killer Book Club #2

Sirens & Stilettos

Rate this book
Love hurts, even when the pain isn't intentional.

Bunny Jones has a secret life…

By day, she’s an investigative assistant who blends into the background. By night, she’s the Shadow Siren—a ruthless vigilante delivering brutal justice to men who hurt women.

The only person she can’t seem to hide from is the detective who knows her better than anyone, because he’s already helped her cover up a murder—her husband’s.

Hunter Remington has always wanted all of Bunny—her heart, her trust, her darkness. But after surviving an abusive marriage, she’s hesitant to open herself up to love again.

When a reckless night leads to an unplanned pregnancy, Bunny must choose between the violent life that gives her power and the man who sees every broken part of her—and still wants more.

As anonymous threats surface and old enemies rise from the dead, Bunny is forced to confront the truth: Hunter’s obsession might be the only thing keeping her alive.

Obsession cuts both ways, though, and when her secret identity is exposed, love might not be enough to save her.

‎❝ hush, little baby. don't you cry. mommy's little victim's about to die.

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ i really went into sirens & stilettos expect to have the time of my deranged little life. hot murdery chaos? serial killer book club energy? bunny and hunter finally getting their turn to be messy in their own book? this should have been tailor-made for my sick little tastes. instead, this book grabbed all that potential, put it in a cute heel, and used it to stomp directly on my neck.

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ and listen, i love a trainwreck. i support women's wrongs. i adore toxic yearning, poor decisions, and people who should absolutely not be left unattended with sharp objects and unresolved feelings. but this? this was not a sexy trainwreck.

₊˚꒰ ⟡ ˙ i. the slow unraveling of my patience. ₊˚⊹ ꒱
‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ bunny jones lives a double life as the shadow siren, which is objectively an iconic serial killer name. by day, she's functioning-ish. by night, she's out here punishing men who hurt women and serving feminine rage with a side of murder. the premise is delicious. a woman in killer stilettos taking out predators while juggling feelings for a man she can't quite have? yes. absolutely. hand it over.

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ then we add hunter remington to the mix, and on paper, this should have ruined me. broody, intense, loyal, vaguely terrifying, funny, and clearly down catastrophic for bunny. together, they've got history, tension, baggage, and enough mutual damage to start a support group.

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ the problem is that there's only so many times i can watch these two circle each other, pine, avoid saying anything useful, make catastrophic choices, and then act shocked when everything explodes. at a certain point, it stopped feeling like delicious tension and started feeling like being trapped in the world's most dysfunctional emotional merry-go-round.

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ and the plot itself? it's there. technically. but it often feels like it’s lurking in the background while bunny and hunter do relationship parkour through blood, vibes, and bad communication. every time i thought we were about to really lock in, the story would swerve back into the same emotional loops. i needed less circling and more stabbing, honestly.

₊˚꒰ ⟡ ˙ ii. why i was losing my mind. ₊˚⊹ ꒱
‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ bunny is where this book really started testing my love. i really wanted to like her. i love a messy heroine. i love a difficult woman. i love a female lead who makes men miserable. and to be fair, the book does give her real pain to work with. she's not chaotic for no reason. there's trauma there, there's damage there, and you can tell so much of her behavior comes from survival mode, fear, and the fact that she's been carrying around hurt for so long it's basically become part of her personality.

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ and i do think that makes her interesting. trauma absolutely shapes the way she loves, the way she lashes out, the way she runs before anyone can hurt her first. you can see how deeply she expects abandonment, how badly she wants control, and how wanting hunter probably terrifies her because loving someone that much means handing them a weapon and hoping they don't use it.

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎there's flawed, there's chaotic, and then there's whatever she was doing here, which often felt like taking the worst possible option in every situation and then acting stunned when it made things worse. trauma can explain behavior. it cannot make me enjoy reading the same self-sabotage loop forty-seven times in a row.

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ and the biggest offense? hunter deserved so much better.

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ and hunter? oh, hunter. my poor king. this man is not perfect by any means, but compared to bunny, he started looking like the patron saint of patience. he's intense, silent, protective, a little toxic, deeply obsessed, and unfortunately exactly my type of fictional problem. he clearly loves bunny with his whole stupid chest, even when she makes it nearly impossible. is he perfect? absolutely not. he's got his own issues, his own baggage, his own toxic little corners. but compared to bunny constantly jerking the entire emotional wheel back and forth, he started looking like the sanest person in the room, which is insane in itself. every time bunny fumbled him, i felt personally offended. like if she doesn't want him, i can absolutely step in.

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ and then there’s the leaving. girl. i cannot even begin to explain how bad that pissed me off. because it’s not even just that bunny leaves, it's that the whole thing feels like yet another moment where hunter is expected to absorb all the damage while she runs off to do whatever brand of self-sabotage she's currently committed to. at a certain point i stopped being sympathetic.

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ like this man is out here loving her, wanting her, trying in the only ways he knows how, and bunny just keeps pulling the rug out from under him. repeatedly. at some point it stopped feeling angsty and started feeling mean. not deliciously toxic romance mean. just straight-up mean. every time hunter got hurt because of bunny'ss choices, i felt my eye start twitching. move aside, babe. i can appreciate a silent, obsessed, slightly unstable man properly.

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ their chemistry is still there, which is honestly what kept me going. they've got that dark, tangled, "we understand the ugliest parts of each other" thing that i eat up every time. but chemistry alone can only do so much when the characters keep running the exact same emotional script. there are only so many yearning stares and almost-conversations a person can survive before they start wanting to throw both leads into separate zip codes for their own good.

₊˚꒰ ⟡ ˙ iii. the pregnancy trope. ₊˚⊹ ꒱
‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ listen y'all, i'm not even a pregnancy trope hater. i actually kind of love when a book throws a baby-shaped grenade into an already unstable relationship. that was not the problem here. if anything, it fit the exact brand of chaotic nonsense this book was serving.

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ my issue was that instead of using that complication to push bunny and hunter into genuinely new territory, the story often just used it to keep them doing emotional donuts in the same parking lot. yes, you're obsessed. yes, you're damaged. yes, this is messy and complicated and nobody in this room should be making legal decisions. i got it. i got it the first six times.

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ there's a version of this book that would have had me feral. one where the pregnancy trope adds pressure, the romance sharpens, the serial killer plot escalates, and bunny and hunter are forced to confront their nonsense in a way that actually changes them. instead, too much of it felt like recycled angst in a new outfit.

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ it's not that there’s nothing fun here. there is. the tone is still darkly funny, the premise is still deliciously unhinged, and there were absolutely moments where i was entertained. but it never fully clicked into the level of chaos i wanted. it felt more exhausting than exhilarating by the end, which is not what i signed up for when i opened this book.

₊˚꒰ ⟡ ˙ iv. conclusion. ₊˚⊹ ꒱
‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ overall, sirens & stilettos had all the ingredients to destroy me in the best way and somehow still ended up leaving me kind of annoyed. bunny as a serial killer in stilettos? iconic. hunter as a broody, obsessed menace that worships the ground she walks on? unfortunately delicious. the actual reading experience? me slowly becoming more and more exasperated while muttering "oh my god" at my page like a disappointed parent.

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ so yeah, 2.3 stars. half for the premise, half for hunter being hunter, half for the moments that actually worked, and the missing stars were taken out back and shot by repetition, frustration, and bunny working my last nerve. hunter deserved better. that's the review.

— 2.3 stars. ⋆˚☆˖°.ᐟ

I really loved this book! If you are a fan of Butcher and Blackbird, I highly recommend this one! Bunny and Hunter are fantastic characters with so much love to give. I did not read book 1, but I will most definitely be going back to read it!

💜Friends to lovers
💜Workplace romance
💜Serial unaliver FMC
💜Detective MMC
💜Surprise pregnancy

Hunter and Bunny are messy and complicated, but beneath it all, they are both head over heels in love with each other. They push and pull like no other. They challenge one another in the best way. But at the end of the day, they can never really be together with the one big secret between them.

Shiloh James & Gabriel Spires perform this audiobook beautifully in duet narration. Shiloh and Gabriel are the perfect pairing for these characters - Shiloh brought forth all of Bunny’s sass and Gabriel was able to spotlight all of Hunter’s deep rooted feelings for Bunny.

I tell you what I know for sure.. Bunny is THE. FUCKING. WORST. I spent 90% of this book hatinnnng her 😒 she kind of redeemed herself in the last 10% but not enough for this to score above 3 stars. It's your fault this is only 3 stars Bunny 🫵🏼 because if this was only about Hunter is would be 6 stars all the way. Hunter is another Noah Riley (iykyk).. he is literally the most sweet, endearing, thoughtful, considerate guy, and Bunny just fucking tramples all over his poor heart 😡 he deserved sooo much better, and yeah he eventually gets that, but not soon enough. It feels like this series revolves around Hunter and Bunny's love story, and even the gore and murder took a heavy backseat in this book. I will say I'm not usually a fan of time jumps, but they were done really well here. And things have been nicely set up for what I assume will be the next book with Vixey too, however I'm feeling confused about who the mmc is going to be for her..

I'm sad to say that Bunny simply ruined this for me. I hate her. She's a bitch and not even really a good person. This was so close to being 2 stars, but she's lucky Hunter was there for the rescue..

Bunny is definitely one character everyone needs to read about who’s into dark romance with comedy.

This is book two in the series and it just gets better and better. The banter between the FMC and the MMC is ongoing just when you think it stops it doesn’t lol

The audiobook is done very well the narrators are perfect for the characters in this story they truly brought them to life in more ways than one. It’s performed in duet so you get the best of the worlds with this. Hunter and Bunny are both amazing and hilarious characters in the sense that you get the funny side of them and the serious side of them.

There’s a lot of spice more than I expected lol but! It goes with the story

Overall the story is told perfectly for both of them. The author does a great job of adding more to the universe giving us more of the world she made and the characters. If you love vibes like Butcher and black or anything else in that category this is definitely something you’ll enjoy.

The author did amazing with this she made me laugh question myself and cry all in one setting and I loved every moment of it.

Thank you to the author and blue nose for allowing me to experience this alc.

4.5.

I don’t think I have truly ever related more to a character than Bunny, if I could wish for any book character to be real it would be Bunny Jones. And I guess Hunter can come along, talk about obsessed. He is the definition of patience he waited and waited until Bunny was ready to love him. Good thing he did, I love them together despite the will they won’t they.

Also, murdering an abuser while pregnant. Women can really do it all. 💜🖤🔪

Why was this such a disappointment after the first book..

And why do authors still use the word fuck when they describe a rape scene..?! Use the right word! Fuck is with consent, rape is without it and this was rape.

Story: 3.75/5
Performance: 4/5

NOW AVAILABLE!

Sirens and Stilettos by D.L. Darby is an overall wonderful listen. There were times I wanted to forehead smack the main characters; Hunter is so in love with Bunny, since the moment he met her, and he would go to great lengths to demonstrate that love and to protect her. Bunny was in an abusive relationship in the past and doesn't trust easily, only those closest to her, including Hunter. Bunny's heart and mind are battling it out over to give over to Hunter, she keeps dangling that carrot just out of reach of Hunter. Until Hunter has had enough and will stop asking Bunny to love him in return. Will this make her realize, yes, i can trust him with my heart? Or will she lose him all together? Or both?

Sirens and Stilettos is performed by Shiloh James and Gabriel Spires, both did a beautiful job at performing Hunter and Bunny's flaws, determination, their inner battles, and their resilience. They both also performed the miscommunication between Hunter and Bunny flawlessly which made me want to shake both characters. This performance definitely brought out all the emotions!

After reading Dolls & Daggers, I was extremely excited for this book to the point where I screamed when I saw it was being released.

Bunny is a domestic abuse survivor and she carries that trauma with her throughout the series to the point of constantly hurting Hunter, the man who is completely and irrevocably in love with her. There are times of frustration where Bunny keeps him at an arm’s length, not wanting to get too close.

But we have to remember, she’s a survivor of severe abuse to the point where she was forced to kill her husband, Nathaniel, who was the first of her kills. So of course she would protect herself too much to the point of hurting Hunter.

Reading how their relationship slowly changed to how it ended was beautiful as we see Bunny begin to trust again, especially in the right man. I loved reading her thoughts and how hard it was for her to trust and be open to the idea of being in a relationship three years after her husband’s death.

The playlist provides perfect songs for the book. And Gravity by Sleep Theory? 100% Hunter and Bunny’s song.

Overall, I love this author and this series. And this book did not disappoint at all.

💜🔪 Sirens & Silettos🔪💜

Bunny works for the local police department and at night she becomes the Siren, a vigilante serial killer hellbent on punishing men who abuse women. For you see Bunny is a survivor of DV and she’s now strong, fierce and independent she helps those who can’t help themselves. And Hunter? He’s the love of her life but also the detective in charge of finding the siren.

This book was well written with lots of angst and tension. The smut was smutting and it had banging characters and tropes. I felt the last couple of break-ups were unnecessary and the book was a bit long. The epilogue wasn’t needed.

OMG!! Sirens and Stilettos is a friends to lovers and workplace romance with serial killers. This is Bunny and Hunter’s story filled with intense tension, unexpected baby, and touch her and ☠️ vibes. I love the way they tease each other and how quickly they are there for each other. Their chemistry is off the charts and will have you swooning with Hunters protectiveness. I love how the story takes you in different timeliness in their lives and how things turned out for them. I also like the twist at the end, which made me root for bunny and her friends. I really enjoyed their story and can’t wait to read more.

This was the second book in the series, and I honestly love this series so much! I was beyond excited for Bunny’s story, and it definitely did not disappoint.

I absolutely adore the ladies of the Serial Killers Book Club. The flashbacks added so much depth and made me like Bunny even more than I already did. And Hunter? He was truly the best.

The plot twists were absolutely amazing and kept me hooked from start to finish. I wanted to read all day and forget about all my responsibilities, I genuinely couldn’t put this book down.

I can’t wait for Vixey’s book!

I ate this up! I loved the first book so I just knew the second one would not disappoint!

I am so glad we finally get Bunny’s story! She has been thru so much, and she is so strong. That doesn’t mean she doesn’t need help, even tho she’s a serial killer.

Hunter knew from the first time he saw her, she was meant to be his. Just Bunny is a wee bit stubborn and doesn’t know if anyone could really love her.

I loved getting to know more about these two. Their story is so cute and beautiful. Plus the banter was top notch!

I really enjoyed this.

I'm quite sad that there wasn't much involving the actual Shadow Siren, hence the loss of 1⭐️

Dolls and Daggers focused a lot on the Dolls kills but not so much in this book. However, Hunter had me absolutely swooning and god did I feel sorry for him. Bunny seriously did a number on him.

I understand she has been through so much but it was like the classic "I don't want you but I also don't want anyone else to have you".

This book was also a hell of a lot spicier than than the 1st one. I was here for it.

Another Banger! I was absolutely hooked from the beginning. I loved how we were taken back in time to learn more about their journey. The way she tied in book One was perfect, being an interconnected series on the same time line, Darby weaves them together seamlessly.

I have so many quotes highlighted thay it would be impossible to list them all. One i will highlight is "you spicy chicken nugget" because I laughed so much when I got to that part.

The push and pull between our 2 MCs will have you wanted to shake and choke them as well as melt. I cant recommend this series more!

I have been waiting for this book to be released since I finished Dolls and Daggers last year. I’m so grateful that I received an arc because I could not wait any longer for Bunny and Hunter’s story. I was so excited going in, and it absolutely did not disappoint. One of my favorite things about this series is the banter.. and D.L Darby came through with it again in this book! 👩‍🍳 💋 It makes the characters feel so much more real.

I loved the chemistry between Bunny and Hunter and how daddy Hunter 😉 was soooo touch her and die 🤬🔪 D.L Darby does such a good job at creating MMCs that I wish I could rip straight out of the pages ☠️

I will always show up for a female serial killer trope. ALWAYS. I am so happy that we’re finally getting more options. This series has become one of my favorites without a doubt and I am so excited for book three 💜

Audiobook review 🎧: Performed in duet by Shiloh James & Gabriel Spires. Both narrators did an amazing job with bringing out the personalities of Bunny and Hunter and really conveying their emotions.

Having already read the book the audio enhanced the experience as a reread. I honestly love Hunter so much all the golden retriever energy until Bunny is threatened. The reversal of her being the serial k as well as the one afraid of commitment was so much fun. Pacing was good. This is how I spent my day It has spice these two are hot together, also the laugh out loud moments and all the seriousness of Bunny extra curricular activities and past.
I would suggest reading in order for the series. You could read this as a standalone but it is very spoilery for Dolls & Daggers.

January 2026
Sirens & Stilettos by D.L. Darby the second book in the Serial Killer Book Club was everything I needed. If you have not read book one and don’t want spoilers you should read in order. Darby did such a great job weaving all the characters and time lines. This runs kinda parallel with Dolls & Daggers. This is set three years after these two meet so I also enjoyed the chapters that give us more details into their past.

Bunny Jones and Hunter Remington really give the title complicated new meaning. These two were so good together and the love they had it was just all the other things that seemed to be in the way. I have been A Jackson fan out of all of Darby’s MMC’s but Hunter has landed right there with him. His consistent and unwavering love for Bunny was beautiful. His sense of humor, loyalty the stalking for protection and give me the slutty glass and curly hair, YES! How many times did I sigh for Hunter? I dont know it was a lot! This man checked all the boxes.

Sometimes I really wanted to smack Bunny but also hug her because we all deal with our pain and fear in different ways. I really felt she was the grumpy one in this relationship. I love the relationship between the girls.

—“𝘐 𝘸𝘢𝘯𝘵 𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘰𝘧 𝘺𝘰𝘶, 𝘉𝘶𝘯𝘯𝘺. 𝘕𝘰𝘵 𝘫𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘵 𝘰𝘧 𝘺𝘰𝘶.”—

We had already meet Vixey previously but we get so much more here. We are also introduced to Todd. It just makes me so much more excited for the next book.

—“𝘉𝘶𝘯𝘯𝘺’𝘴 𝘢 𝘨𝘳𝘶𝘥𝘨𝘦-𝘩𝘰𝘭𝘥𝘦𝘳. 𝘋𝘰𝘯’𝘵 𝘭𝘦𝘵 𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘴𝘦𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘤𝘳𝘺. 𝘚𝘩𝘦 𝘩𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘴 𝘸𝘦𝘢𝘬𝘯𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘤𝘢𝘯 𝘴𝘮𝘦𝘭𝘭 𝘧𝘦𝘢𝘳 𝘧𝘳𝘰𝘮 𝘢 𝘮𝘪𝘭𝘦 𝘢𝘸𝘢𝘺.”—

Amazing book highly recommend this series if you enjoyed the vibes of midf*ck, she is the killer and he is in law enforcement. Now I can’t wait for the reread audiobook releasing soon too.

Let me start my review by telling you that I was lucky enough to receive an early arc for this book by the author and I am so happy. I devoured the first book; Dolls and Daggers. I finished this read in less than 24 hours. This book had me crashing so hard. I don’t think I’ve ever felt more bipolar while reading a book. I was 40% angry, 10% cursing, 30% fangirling, and 20% crying and honestly, that math feels generous. I’m extremely conflicted about my rating, because this could have easily been a 5/5 for me but I am conflicted between giving it a 3,5 or an 4.

"𝘞𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘐 𝘧𝘦𝘦𝘭 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘺𝘰𝘶... 𝘪𝘵'𝘴 𝘵𝘰𝘰 𝘮𝘶𝘤𝘩. 𝘐𝘵'𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘵𝘺𝘱𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘢𝘭𝘭-𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘴𝘶𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘨, 𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘩-𝘴𝘩𝘢𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨, 𝘭𝘪𝘧𝘦-𝘢𝘭𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘭𝘰𝘷𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘯𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳 𝘳𝘦𝘤𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘳 𝘧𝘳𝘰𝘮. 𝘈𝘯𝘥 𝘪𝘵 𝘴𝘤𝘢𝘳𝘦𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘴𝘩𝘪𝘵 𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘰𝘧 𝘮𝘦. First things first: Dove and Wren are definitely included in this book, which I appreciated. We also get dual POVs (Hunter and Bunny's), and several new characters are introduced; three of them feel like they’re being set up for book three. I love the cover, and I already know I need the paperback on my shelf. I also think I might even love Bunny more than I loved Dove and that is saying something. Bunny’s flaws and emotional depth completely stole my heart. I loved how afraid she is to open up, to let Hunter truly see her, terrified that once he looks beneath the mask, he’ll break her. I also loved that Hunter mirrors her fear of abandonment, and that he loved her from the very beginning (what do you mean he practically magic-ed her??). That part had me feral.

"𝘐𝘵'𝘴 𝘭𝘪𝘬𝘦 𝘴𝘩𝘦 𝘸𝘢𝘯𝘵𝘴 𝘮𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘨𝘰 𝘤𝘢𝘷𝘦𝘮𝘢𝘯 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘤𝘭𝘢𝘪𝘮 𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘪𝘯 𝘧𝘳𝘰𝘯𝘵 𝘰𝘧 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺𝘰𝘯𝘦. 𝘐'𝘥 𝘨𝘭𝘢𝘥𝘭𝘺 𝘥𝘰 𝘪𝘵 - 𝘦𝘹𝘱𝘦𝘤𝘵 𝘴𝘩𝘦 𝘸𝘰𝘯'𝘵 𝘴𝘶𝘳𝘳𝘦𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘵 𝘰𝘧 𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘐 𝘸𝘢𝘯𝘵 𝘮𝘰𝘴𝘵: 𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘩𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘵."

I was slightly confused about why book two starts midway through the first book. That could have easily been handled as a brief mention instead. Ignoring that, I still felt like this story was missing something that the first book had. Maybe it’s because in book one, we learn early on why Wren is the way he is, which really helps build his character. With Hunter, the major revelations come at the end. I think it would’ve worked better if those twists were revealed earlier or midway through, to deepen his storyline. Instead, we got multiple twists back-to-back at the end, one issue resolved, then a few pages later, another twist drops which felt overwhelming rather than impactful.

"𝘈𝘥𝘳𝘦𝘯𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘦 𝘴𝘱𝘪𝘬𝘦𝘴 𝘭𝘪𝘬𝘦 𝘢 𝘣𝘢𝘥 𝘥𝘳𝘶𝘨, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘐 𝘵𝘳𝘺 𝘵𝘰 𝘬𝘦𝘦𝘱 𝘮𝘺 𝘧𝘦𝘢𝘳 𝘧𝘳𝘰𝘮 𝘴𝘩𝘰𝘸𝘪𝘯𝘨. 𝘔𝘺 𝘧𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘦𝘳𝘴 𝘥𝘪𝘨 𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘰 𝘮𝘺 𝘢𝘳𝘮𝘴, 𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘩𝘰𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘮𝘦 𝘴𝘰 𝘐 𝘥𝘰𝘯'𝘵 𝘴𝘱𝘪𝘳𝘢𝘭 𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘰 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘥𝘢𝘳𝘬 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘺 𝘸𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘏𝘶𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘳 𝘥𝘦𝘤𝘪𝘥𝘦𝘴 𝘩𝘦'𝘴 𝘧𝘪𝘯𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 𝘧𝘪𝘯𝘪𝘴𝘩𝘦𝘥 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘮𝘦."

𝑻𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈𝒔 𝑰 𝒍𝒊𝒌𝒆𝒅:
• The unexpected pregnancy trope is one I usually stay far away from because I truly don’t like it. It often leaves me questioning the relationship like, is a baby really the only reason two people are together? Where is the love in that? But D.L. Darby might be the only author so far who has made this trope readable for me. In Hunter and Bunny’s case, the baby wasn’t the reason they ended up together. It felt more like a glue, something that forced them to confront their traumas and move forward instead of staying stuck in them. And that made all the difference.
• I love Bunny. I honestly feel like she’s even stronger than Dove. After everything she went through, she still cares deeply even if she can’t always show it in the way people expect or want her to. Coming out of trauma like that can either break someone or build them, and for Bunny, it did both. That duality is what made her feel so real to me. There were chapters that genuinely broke my heart, especially the moments where she was left hanging by the very people she loved. All she wanted was for them to understand her without her having to say it out loud. And I get that so much. Sometimes you’re so afraid to voice what you need or want that you shut down completely, convincing yourself that silence is safer than exposing your weaknesses or flaws. Bunny living in that space felt painfully authentic.
• I also loved the movie and song references throughout the book; I definitely need to rewatch some of them now. I laughed at the jokes, loved the banter between Hunter and Bunny (and Hunter and Wren), and completely obsessed over Hunter’s obsession with Bunny. I mean… he practically magic-ed her and I am still fangirling over that.
• I had one dislike (I think) for the first book; Wren not having any hobbies (him not having a life of his own), in this book Hunter had his own life and family/friends. He had, besides Bunny, his own world and I enjoyed that because it made the character so much more realistic.

𝑻𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈𝒔 𝑰 𝒅𝒊𝒔𝒍𝒊𝒌𝒆𝒅:
• This book made me dislike Dove, and that is a huge thing for me. Dove was so smart and sharp in the first book, and that intelligence felt completely missing here. It rubbed me the wrong way. I also hated that she seemed to have no time for Bunny, yet allowed another girl to enter what was supposed to be their two-girl dynamic. I just can’t reconcile this version of Dove with the Dove from book one, it didn’t feel like her.
• I have a serious love/hate relationship with Hunter. I loved him at the beginning of the book, but by the end? I was furious. I can understand being hurt by being brushed aside, but it’s not like Bunny shows no feelings toward him and he knows that. What do you mean he leaves her right after a HUGE EVENT while knowing she’s being stalked? What do you mean he lets another girl wear his shirt? What do you mean he can tell everyone else how he feels but can’t tell Bunny, the one person who actually matters? He had me so upset that I was genuinely ready to throw the book at the wall (didn’t, because it was late, everyone was asleep, and the book was my phone).
• And lastly… I DISLIKE Vixey. Sorry, not sorry. She made me angry basically every single time she was on the page. I didn’t trust her, I didn’t like her, and she felt incredibly intrusive and forced. I hated the way she tried to wedge herself between Dove and Bunny. I hated her flirting with Hunter. I hated that she was wearing nothing but Hunter’s shirt in his freaking apartment just because she “had no one else to turn to.” Who wears the shirt of someone you claim to see as a brother and nothing else underneath it?

Killer sequel! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Oh man, the squeal I squealed when I got the email about getting an ARC copy of this...pretty sure I scared my toddler.

Okay, wow. I have been waiting on Bunny and Hunter's story since I finished Dolls and Daggers (which, wow what a lucky find for me). While Dove and Wren's story was fantastic, I was anxiously (and I mean anxiously...counting down the days until Feb) waiting for Bunny and Hunter's story! The tension in the first book had me hooked. The bonus scene in the bar bathroom? Had me salivating for their story. And let me tell you, IT DID NOT DISAPPOINT.

I love how their history is interspersed through present day and how we also get their side of things while Dove and Wren figure their shit out. Some of those scenes in the past....uffda. The author really pulled at those heart strings... the push and pull between these two just shreds you at parts.

And then to follow along as Bunny's head catches up with her heart? Oof. I'm a little in love with Hunter now. Without spoiling anything, I gotta say that that "receipe list" scene nearly brought me to tears. 😭

Also, wow, the bathroom scene...from Bunny's POV KILLED ME. 😭😭😭

Loved the cameos from the Angels of Désirer series too! 💖

Overall, 100/10 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. So worth the wait!!! Can't wait to learn more about Vixey and Todd!

I’m so happy Bunny & Hunter got their story! I was super intrigued with them from Dolls & Daggers!

Their banter & chemistry was everything I could have wanted and more. I loved the push and pull between them, I ate it up 👏🏻

And yall the spice 🤤 no wonder she ended up pregnant 🤣

Edit for ALC Review:

Sirens & Stilettos was produced by Blue Nose Audio and performed in duet by Shiloh James & Gabriel Spires! These two are a fantastic duo & bring Bunny & Hunter’s story to life perfectly. They had me falling in love with this story and characters all over again.

hunter remington deserves better and i will die on this hill

usually, i’m not one to write a review, or a long one for that matter, but after how thoroughly this book disappointed me after reading the first book, i just need to let out my frustrations haha

when i first read the prologue and saw that bunny gets pregnant, i admit i did consider not reading to begin with, and that’s not because i don’t like the pregnancy trope, but because i had no idea how it would work out for this book in particular. i really wish the author would have gone a different route for the plot of this story, i would have much preferred if it focused on hunter trying to catch the shadow siren. to say this is a serial killer themed book, not a lot of killing goes on or really anything to do with it.

after reading bunny’s interactions in dolls & daggers, i was expecting this book to be a deep one and to be articulate. what i got from this book was that getting pregnant solved all their problems and because of the “pregnancy hormones” she finally wanted to see hunter marked as hers after YEARS of him pursuing her and her leading him on and refusing him because she was afraid to hand over her heart because of her past. this is where i expected the deepness and the character development to roll in but it just didn’t. while she is oblivious to the fact she’s pregnant, suddenly now she wants him and the whole complexity of bunny’s character just fell away and she became the pregnant woman who everything changes just because of a child being involved, and that’s what i hated about this book and was so disappointed by. having children just does not fix problems or complex issues like that.

moving away from the issue i had with the pregnancy trope, another thing i was disappointed by is bunny’s character. from reading dolls & daggers i was excited to see what she would be like in her own book, to see her complexity from her perspective but what i saw was a selfish, jealous, and hurtful person. she kept hunter at arms length, going on dates and such intentionally to annoy him, while then leading him on by doing sexual stuff after every one of her dates. but the second he humours another woman, it’s game over and she can’t handle it. not to mention the amount of times she hurt hunter and uses her past as an excuse. hunter specially tells her that if she leaves again he wouldn’t be able to handle it. and what does she do? runs and leaves for 3 months towards the end of her pregnancy because she wouldn’t hear hunter out and what he had to say, and she blames him for it and in hunter’s perspective he blames himself which i thought was just awful writing from the author. the author did this a lot in hunter’s perspective where stuff that is clearly bunny’s fault, hunter was basically echoing what bunny was saying in hers which is it’s his fault. i got really tired of the lack of accountability from bunny’s pov, and how the author made hunter enable her behaviours and shift the accountability to himself when it wasn’t his to take.

i think the pregnancy trope really destroyed this book and what it could have been. the author advertises the book as mindf*ck by s.t. abby vibes, and as someone who loves that series to death, i didn’t see a single moment where that is true. in my opinion, the story would have been much better if it focused on hunter trying to catch the shadow siren and focusing on character development for bunny’s complexities instead of just making her pregnant and poof that solves everything and it’s suddenly fairy land. now if the plot was hunter catching a serial killer but the serial killer he’s catching is the woman he loves? NOW THAT, would have been mindf*ck vibes. but again, hunter going after the siren isn’t mentioned at all apart from when he actually catches her.

the anonymous person who was sending letters was probably the only remotely semi interesting thing in the book, and even that fell flat. especially when it was revealed who it was and what their motives were, it felt so lazy. this book as a whole could have been something astonishing with the way the author could have wrote about bunny, hunter and the plot but all areas in the book really lacked for me. with bunny and hunter already being in love from page 1, it was really hard to see any chemistry, to see these two as a couple instead of individual people. i didn’t feel any chemistry. honestly this book was just a whole lot of nothing and i’m so mad about it

honestly my favourite parts about this book was when i got to read about dove and wrenley again…

I just finished Sirens & Stilettos by D.L. Darby, the second book in the Serial Killer Book Club trilogy, and I fell in love with HUNTER. Waiting for 2 YEARS?! OMG the way he is SO OBSESSED with her. I want a man like this!

HUNTER REMINGTON. This detective has been pining for Bunny for TWO YEARS. Two years of watching her heal from her abusive marriage, two years of respecting her boundaries while being completely gone for her, two years of WAITING because he knows she’s worth it. Hunter Remington has always wanted all of Bunny. Her heart, her trust, her darkness. Not just pieces of her, not just the parts she’s willing to give. He wants ALL of her, including the Shadow Siren vigilante serial killer side. The devotion, the patience, the way he sees her COMPLETELY and loves every broken, dark, violent piece of her? PERFECTION.

BUNNY JONES. By day, she’s an investigative assistant who blends into the background. By night, she’s the Shadow Siren. A ruthless vigilante delivering brutal justice to men who hurt women. After surviving an abusive marriage, she’s closed off, hesitant to trust, and absolutely NOT ready for love. And Hunter? He’s already helped her cover up a murder, her husband’s. So he KNOWS her darkest secrets and loves her anyway.

I LOVED the praise and degradation kink in this book! When Hunter praises Bunny and tells her she’s being so good? When he gets filthy and degrades her during intimate moments? The contrast between the two is DELICIOUS and perfectly executed. The way he worships her and then gets rough and possessive. It’s everything I want in a dark romance MMC.

The only thing I HATED is the fact that they both were flirting, going on dates, being touchy-touchy with OTHER PEOPLE to make one another jealous or give in. That drove me CRAZY. I understand why it happens narratively. She’s trying to push each other away and he’s trying to make her jealous, trying to deny their feelings. But watching them with other people when you KNOW they belong together was frustrating. I just wanted them to stop being stubborn and admit they’re completely gone for each other!

But OMG this book made me CRY so much. My poor HUNTER. The emotional depth in this story absolutely destroyed me. After surviving an abusive marriage, she’s hesitant to open herself up to love again , and watching Bunny struggle to trust Hunter even though he’s proven himself over and over broke my heart. And Hunter? This man has been waiting TWO YEARS, loving her from afar, respecting her space, being there for her without pushing and she keeps pushing him away. The PAIN he carries, the longing, the way he’s terrified of losing her but also terrified of pushing too hard. I was SOBBING.

When a reckless night leads to an unplanned pregnancy, Bunny must choose between the violent life that gives her power and the man who sees every broken part of her and still wants more. The pregnancy plot added such an emotional layer I wasn’t expecting. Watching Bunny navigate becoming a mother while being a vigilante serial killer, while dealing with her trauma, while trying to decide if she can let Hunter in? The internal conflict was INTENSE and had me crying multiple times.

The stakes get SO high. As anonymous threats surface and old enemies rise from the dead, Bunny is forced to confront the truth: Hunter’s obsession might be the only thing keeping her alive. There’s real danger, real suspense, and moments where I was genuinely terrified for both of them.

Hunter doesn’t try to change Bunny or stop her vigilante activities. He accepts her darkness, her violence, her need for vengeance and he loves her MORE for it. The way he supports her while also being terrified of losing her? The protectiveness mixed with respect for her autonomy? PERFECTION. He’s not trying to save her or fix her, he just wants to be HERS.

The emotional depth surprised me. Yes, there’s dark humor and serial killer shenanigans like in book one, but this book goes DEEPER. This is about healing from abuse, learning to trust again, choosing love even when you’re terrified, and letting someone see ALL of you even the parts you’re ashamed of. Bunny’s journey from broken abuse survivor to powerful vigilante to woman learning to be vulnerable again was beautifully done, but it HURT to read.

The chemistry between Hunter and Bunny is EXPLOSIVE. Two years of tension finally gets released and it’s SO worth the wait. The spice is good and the intimate scenes are both hot and emotional.

The found family with Dove and Wren from book one continues to be amazing. Seeing all these characters support each other made my heart full.

Fair warning: this book deals with domestic violence, past abuse, pregnancy, graphic violence, and some heavy emotional themes. Check those trigger warnings!

5 out of 5 stars despite the frustration with the jealousy subplot. Hunter waiting TWO YEARS, the way he’s obsessed with Bunny in the healthiest way possible, the praise AND degradation kink, the emotional depth all of it is INCREDIBLE. But also be prepared to CRY because this book is EMOTIONAL.

Hunter Remington, you patient, obsessed, devoted man. You are EVERYTHING. My poor hunter suffered so much and I just wanted to hug him. The way he loves Bunny through all her walls and trauma is beautiful and heartbreaking.

If you love obsessed MMCs who wait years for their woman, vigilante FMCs, detectives who enable their woman’s murder habits, praise AND degradation kinks, pregnancy plots in dark romance, healing from abuse, and books that will make you CRY. READ THIS.

I want a man like Hunter who will wait for me, accept all my darkness, and love me completely. This book destroyed me emotionally and I loved every tear-filled second of it!

Quotes I fell in love with:

“Bunny and her Hunter. The devil and her devoted demon.”

“She is the most breathtaking thing I’ve ever seen.”

“Beauty like hers is deadly to men like me.”

“But something tells me if I see this goddess outside of this club, she’ll be the only diving thing I ever worship.”

“And if you let me, I’d like to worship you on my knees.”

“You men should really stop pissing off women We are way more creative with revenge, you know.”

“Listen to me, Little Rabbit. I have no idea what you’re talking about. But your sass is lighting a fire in my cock that only your pussy can put out. So if you’re done accusing me of bullshit that never happened, admit you’re mine already so I can take you home and fuck you in the most disrespectful way imaginable.”

“Tell me you’re mine. You have been in nearly every way imaginable–except the way that counts. Give me your consent, Bunny.”

“One day you’ll give it to me. Until then, I can wait.”

“I want all of you, Bunny. Not just part of you.”

“Surrender your heart to me and I will fuck my soul into yours.”

“Because I will kill them. I will obliterate anyone who dares put their hands on you.”

“What can I say? I am protective of the things I consider mine.”

“You’re mine, Little Rabbit. Do you feel that that’s me marking you as mine.”

“I’m right here, baby. I’ve always been right here. I’m not going anywhere.”

“Always, Little Rabbit. I’ll always catch you when you fall. I promise.”

“Where did you get sushi from? Remind me never to eat there if it makes you cry.”

“I can’t always be with her, and I have to keep her safe. That’s always been my number one priority.”

“I want to claim her. Thoroughly wreck her and make her mine.”

“I don’t tell her she never has to ask. I will follow her anywhere– as many times as she wants me to.”

“You seem like you’re finally ready to give this a chance, but I want you to know what that means, Little Rabbit. You can’t run away again. I won’t survive a second time.”

“And you’re my girl carrying my child.”

“If you think I’m going to let anything happen to you, you’re dead wrong, Little Rabbit. Anyone who tries to hurt you or our baby will find themselves in a world of pain, because I don’t take kindly to others threatening my family. And that’s what you are, Bunny. My family. If anyone tries to take you from me, I ripped them apart with my bare hands.”

“I hate it when you cry. I hate it more when I’m the cause of your tears. It breaks something inside me every time.”

“Do not ever—and I mean ever–pull that shit again while they’re in the car. I’d you want to put your princess in danger, be my guest, but I will fucking kill you id you hard my queen or my child. Do you understand, Wrenley?”

“I knew I loved you long before I met you, Little Rabbit. You’ve been my dream for a long, long time.”

“You branded me the day we met. Seared yourself into my skin, my brain, my bones.”

“You made a mistake thinking you could have my girl.”

“I wanted because you’re worth waiting for, Bunny. I had little to no experience dating or loving anyone when we met, but I knew what we had–what we have–is once in a lifetime. It was instant for me, Little Rabbit. The second you climbed on that stage, you stole my heart, and you’ve had it ever since. Every piece of me belongs to you. You know that.”

“I want her to know that kind of love exists and it’s worth fighting for. Even when the other person hasn’t figured it out yet. Even when they fight against it. You don’t give up when it’s hard.”

“You belong to me, Little Rabbit, and I’m going to make sure you never fucking forget it.”

A Killer Story & Listen🎧Gripping & Remarkable!

Sirens & Stilettos
Serial Killer Book Club Book 2
By: D.L. Darby
Narrated by: Shiloh James, Gabriel Spires

D.L. Darby has written another fantastic killer of a story, a thrilling second-chance romance that will keep you hooked from beginning to end. This second book of her “Serial Killer Book Club” series features Bunny Jones, a member of the serial killer book club, and Hunter Remington, the man pining for her. Hunter is a detective and the lead investigator of the “Shadow Siren” serial killer case. Bunny has worked as an investigative assistant for the police, a perfect coverup for her after-work activities as a vigilante killer of men who abuse women, and how the two met. Hunter tries to snare Bunny, but coming out of an abusive relationship, she is hesitant to get involved in another serious relationship, though she was kidding herself since she wanted him too. The back-and-forth between these two was entertaining to watch, adding in more witty dialogue, banter and scenes with her bestie Dove elevates the fun too. Keeping it spoiler-free, I will only say it is best going in knowing as little as possible and enjoy the dark and twisted ride as it all unfolds. There is never a dull moment in this cleverly plotted story, a multi-layered story that has plenty of drama, angst, dark humor, some thrilling and suspenseful moments, twists and turns, heartfelt emotions, and a steamy second-chance romance. The world-building and the complexity of the characters, their development and growth are all fantastic. D.L. Darby, thank you for another amazing story and wild ride!

🎧📚🎧 And for the amazing audiobook listen and production performed by the wonderfully talented Shiloh James and Gabriel Spires, who did a fantastic job voicing the characters and delivering a perfect portrayal of each. Both embodied their characters completely, captured the tension and the chemistry between them too. Shiloh James killed it as Bunny, grasping every aspect of her personality, from her wit, quirkiness to her fierceness and all in between, including her vulnerabilities. Gabriel Spires was just as fantastic and nailed it in Hunter’s role, showcasing his personality perfectly. They were fabulous performing the roles of the side/secondary characters, as well as handling all the witty back-and-forth dialogue. Setting the ideal tone for the story, their expressive performance conveyed all the characters’ emotions and had you feeling them all. It is a pleasure to listen to these entertaining storytellers, and their captivating performance keeps you hooked to the story.
