In this poignant work of fiction, Emma delivers a powerful narrative of one woman's journey from constraint to freedom. When Emma's carefully constructed life begins to crumble, she must confront the shadows of her past while navigating the uncertain terrain of her future.
A testament to the human spirit's capacity for renewal. Blooming Through Thorns speaks to anyone who has ever faced the daunting task of rewriting their own story.
Such a great story of finding oneself through diversity and tragedy. So well written it made for an easy read of a woman’s journey from darkness to light. A true victim to survivor story, one can easily see Emma as a friend who may have gone through a similar experience with domestic violence. Well done!
Blooming Through Thorns is an emotional and inspiring read that follows Emma, a young woman navigating the pain of an abusive marriage and the strength it takes to find her way out. What really stood out to me was how real and raw Emma’s journey felt. She didn’t just escape—she did the work. She went to therapy, looked inward, and figured out how she ended up in such a damaging relationship in the first place.
Chad, her husband, is a truly awful character—controlling, belittling, and the kind of person who constantly tried to dim Emma’s light. But Emma’s drive and desire for a better life were powerful. She pushed forward, step by step, and eventually found peace, healing, and love with someone who truly saw and respected her.
This book is a powerful reminder that there is life after abuse. I’d definitely recommend it to anyone who’s been in a toxic or abusive relationship—or even someone supporting a loved one going through it. It’s hopeful, honest, and proof that healing is possible.

The writing in Blooming Through Thorns is elegant and succinct, allowing the story to unfold with a quiet, deliberate strength. It was both easy to read, and compelling at the same time. Every word feels carefully chosen, contributing to a storyline that is emotionally resonant and forthright.
Emma’s journey is told with heartfelt clarity and that brings each chapter to life. As the main character embarks on her journey, it’s easy to connect with her on multiple levels. The emotional landscape is wide and varied—you’ll find yourself feeling everything from anger and frustration to elation, sadness, fear, triumph, and hope. As I read through the chapters, I wasn’t just reading about Emma—I was rooting for her every step of the way.
As the book takes us through Emma’s journey, we, too, begin to uncover a few truths about ourselves. The author’s wit and sharp insight captivated me from the very beginning, pulling me into a fast-paced story that’s both layered and thought-provoking. What appears simple on the surface quickly reveals a complex web of emotions, choices, and quiet revelations—making this quick read surprisingly intricate and deeply resonant.
The main character, Emma's plight, serves as both a cautionary tale and a guiding inspiration for those who may be facing similar struggles—it’s honest, unflinching, and ultimately hopeful.
Cherie Hans weaves a story of overcoming unique challenges with humor, insight and heart. She delivers! Read this book, it’s a quick read and a great story. I can’t wait for her next book.
Blooming Through Thorns is a novella about one woman’s experience with domestic abuse and her journey to fight back and overcome her past.
Emma marries Chad out of self-inflicted pressure to get married like all her friends. All the warning signs are there but she ignores them and proceeds with the wedding and it goes as expected.
As I read the descriptions of the verbal abuse, they seemed far-fetched and almost silly but I recalled a friend who went through something similar and I was shocked when she told me her stories. Fortunately physical abuse did not occur in the story with the exception of one minor scene.
As Emma finds the strength to leave her marriage and rebuild her life, she learns how to be her authentic self and forages a new path.
This engaging fictional work carries with it a refreshing honesty and openness of spirit to connect the author and their readers on a journey of self-reconciliation against brutal adversity. The author's unnerving ability to provoke questions about our own conduct in real-life relationships only serves to underline the frailty of people's interactions with one another. Examining the complex structures of victimhood, the author demonstrates that the term 'victim' does not, in itself, diminish the inner strength that each of us carries, (but might not realise), as is so amply demonstrated in this delightful, yet somewhat provocative, read.
Book Review: Blooming Through Thorns By Cherie Hans
Blooming Through Thorns captivated me with its heartfelt portrayal of Emma's journey. Her resilience and self-discovery resonated deeply, reminding me that even in adversity, one can find strength and purpose. This novel is a touching testament to the human spirit's ability to flourish amidst challenges.
I received this book through a Goodreads giveaway. Thank you for giving me the chance to read your book. I liked the storyline but really wish there had been more detail to the story. It was a happy ever after ending but I expected the ex to put up more of a fight when his wife was leaving him. There just wasn’t much detail or dialogue to support the story.

Thank you for writing this book and allowing us a peek into your life. A life perhaps different from mine but wonderful nevertheless. A love based so thoroughly on what both of you need is so refreshing.
A quick read, this book tells a story that many will connect to but in the end as the title suggests there is a path forward through difficult times. I’m looking forward to the next work by this author.
The only thing I liked about this novella was that I read it in one sitting. I gave it two stars because of the subject matter and the fact that I respect the author’s journey. However, it was not well written and I didn’t feel very much emotion throughout, it fell flat for me.
