Falling for the enemy wasn’t the plan. But when our worlds collide, I’m blindsided by our chemistry.

I should’ve known this feisty journalist was trouble.

Maya’s scathing articles went viral—icing my hockey career and landing me on the bench. Now she’s swooping in, convinced that my comeback story is her golden ticket to success. But it’ll only work if we join forces.

This may be my one shot at getting back on the ice. But I know better than to trust Maya.

Yet every stolen glance pulls us closer. And each forbidden touch makes it harder to resist the game we’re playing.

Soon, we’re living under the same roof in a small town, chasing the redemption story of a lifetime.

My sister Isabella would kill me if she knew I was falling for her best friend.

But as our secrets spill and the final buzzer sounds…

I’m risking it all for a pucking chance to make her mine.

Everyone loves a bad boy… and Blades’ captain, Brett, perfectly fits the role of bad boy you love to hate. Drafted young, he struggles between leading the team and finding the confidence to believe in his own abilities. His showboating almost cost his team a shot at the cup, and landed him in the middle of nowhere coaching high schoolers.

Enter Maya… his sister’s best friend and aspiring journalist who shone a neon light on his faults. But when she promises to get his career back on track if he grants her access to him and his high school team…can he trust her? Or trust himself around her?

I really enjoyed this story. It was short and sweet, and the hockey was written well (very important to this hockey mom!). I really enjoyed this story.

It's a cute short story.
I just find it was rushed, moved too fast. Feels like there should have been more history.

I really wanted to like this book more, but I couldn’t get past the hockey inaccuracies. I didn’t like how the slice was written and more than one scene would’ve been nice. I found the characters likeable but lacking emotional depth.
However the ending was perfect and the plot line with the high school team was very wholesome and reminded me of the Mighty Ducks movie. I recommend if you want an easy, short read!

Great, short read. Hockey Captain and journalist doing anything they can to succeed. I loved the step sister, I wished there was a little tiny bit more of her. Overall, I liked it. I just wanted a little more of everything by the end.

It was never in the plan for Brett to fall for the enemy, the beautiful journalist Maya. Then all of a sudden their worlds come colliding together, and Brett's suddenly blindsided by the chemistry that they share.

Brett should have opened his eyes and seen just what this feisty journalist was when she walked into his life, but he failed to realize just how much trouble she was going to cause him.

Maya's scathing articles on me and my team went viral – and that didn't go over well with Brett's coach. It resulted in Brett's career being put on ice and saw Brett ending up on the bench.

Now Maya's back, dropping back into Brett's life, trying to convince Brett that his comeback story is her golden ticket to getting her to the next level of her career. But, the catch is, the only way it's going to work is if they work together.

But, Brett knows that it's his one shot at getting back on the ice and getting his career back on track. At the same time though, Brett knows better than to trust Maya.

At the same time though, every stolen glance they share, every touch, pulls them together. And every day they spend time together, the glances and touches make it harder and harder for them both to resist the game that they are playing.

Quickly Brett and Maya find themselves living under one roof in a small town, and their both chasing their own redemption stories, stories that are once in a lifetime.

Brett knows that his sister Isabella would kill him if she knew the truth, that he was falling in love with her best friend Maya.

As all secrets do, they come out and are spilled into the world, and Brett feels like he's hearing the final buzzer.....

Now Brett knows that he's risking everything including his very career, just to make Maya his.

Tropes: Enemies to Lovers, Hockey Romance, Forced Proximity, BFF Stepbrother, and Sports Journalist x Hockey Player Captain.

A Pucking Chance is An Enemies to Lovers Hockey Romance by Julia Savan. This is the first book by Julia Savan that I have ever read. I wasn't sure what to expect. But, I was happily surprised that I enjoyed this hockey romance. I don't normally enjoy hockey romance novels. But, I enjoyed this one.

I found the Blades' hockey team captain, Brett to be a bad boy and Julia wrote Brett's character to fit that role perfectly. He's the boy you absolutely love to hate. He'd been drafted to the Blades' team at a young age. Now he struggles between leading his hockey team and more than that, trying to find the confidence to believe in his own talent and abilities. His constant showboating nearly cost his team even a shot a the cup, landing him in the middle of blink and you miss it nowhere, where he's now coaching high schoolers.

It's here where we get to meet Maya. He's known Maya for years as she's his sister's best friend and now she's an aspiring journalist and she has taken great joy in shining a light on all of Brett's faults.

Now though, she has other plans. She wants to help him get his career back on track and all Brett has to do is give Maya access to him and the high school team that he's coaching. But, Brett isn't sure, he doesn't know if he can fully trust her? Or if he can fully trust himself around her?

Brett is your typical bad boy but he's more than just a bad boy, he's a hot head with a temper to match. He's got a chip on his shoulder and he's so quick to anger that he scared me at times. (I suffer from PTSD with anger as a trigger).

But, as I continued to read, slowly Brett started to change, and you saw his character start to change. Slowly Brett became a better man and he got his anger issues under control, he lost the chip on his shoulder, and his temper was brought under control. Then he became trustworthy, dependable, loyal, and he had a sense of integrity. He also became a leader who you could see he was meant to be. And more than that, he had this confidence in his skills and abilities on the ice.

I felt for Maya when we first met her she made a mistake in the way that she handled writing about Brett and her article nearly destroyed his career. But, she thankfully realized that she had made a mistake and wanted to make things right and she found where Brett was living and went to where he was and wanted to work with him to revive his career and turn his image around.

I found Maya to be strong, intelligent, courageous, independent, with a sense of ambition and not only for herself but for others as well, over time she learned to respect not only herself but others, and most of all her learned about humanity and knowing her limitations and how to learn from others.

I'm not going to say anything else about the book as I want you to read the book for yourself and enjoy it for yourself.

The only downside to this book is that I wish that this book was longer than it was. But, I did love the way the tension and angst were slowly built up and it was just so sweet and I just loved the way the tension was just lit up on fire. I really just loved Brett and Maya's chemistry.

I loved this story. A Pucking Chance is just a quick, short, sweet book and I found the hockey scenes were written really well I found.

I would recommend this story if you enjoy a quick, short, sweet, hockey romance. And I look forward to reading more from this author. Julia Savan did a great job with this book and I can't wait to see what she writes next.

While I came into this knowing it was a short story, I felt like it should have been longer. The story line was rushed and there was little to no substance. I feel like the FMC and MMC should have known each other prior for this to flow more. It was hinted at in the first chapter that they may have had a relationship in the sense that they work and play in the same circle, but this wasn't fully established or followed through with.

The love story was rushed and I didn't feel like you had any time to connect to the characters, much less understand their relationship together. The fact that she also lied to her best friend brought this idea that there was a conflict that would play out over the novel, but they forgave each other way too quickly. It wasn't an ideal scenario and felt like it was added for no reason.

It would also be nice if the chapters were all roughly the same length. The initial chapters were quite short and then all of a sudden they were really long. All in all, the story line and length needed work.

ARC Reader Confessional – A Pucking Chance by Julia Savan 🏒💋

This book was pure hockey chaos in the best way possible. I laughed, I swooned, and yes—I might’ve rolled my eyes at the hero more than once (but tell me that man didn’t deserve it 😤).

Julia Savan knows how to write tension. The slow burn? Torturous. The banter? Sharp enough to draw blood. And the chemistry? So electric it could melt the ice right off the rink. 🔥

Our heroine is feisty, fearless, and refuses to play by anyone’s rules but her own—an instant favorite. The hero, though? Cocky, charming, and frustratingly hard to hate. Together, they’re an absolute disaster—but one you can’t look away from. 😏

Was it perfect? Not quite. There were a few moments that felt a little too over the top for me—but the emotional payoff and the spice made it worth every page.

It’s messy, magnetic, and full of heart—basically everything I want from a sports romance. A solid 4⭐️ read that left me smiling and slightly feral. 💀🏒

Hockey romance

Brett is a hot head and when Maya wrote about Brett and her article hoping to advanced her career, how he isn’t a team player that’s hard to work with and has anger issues. It hurts Bretz image, so Maya decides to change her tactics and decides to help Brett clean up his image and reports about the positive impact Brett is making. The tension builds up so sweet even when they couldn’t stand each other, the tension was fire! With some sweet moments along the way, I loved their chemistry. I just wish this story was longer!
Absolutely love the Reed am so thankful to be able to read this story and I am looking forward to more from this Author.

This was a fantastic story. It really resonated with me. I loved how Maya realized that she had misunderstood Brett and she came up with a way to help both him and herself at the same time. I felt that it was so hard for her to go against her best friend. It was such a great feeling when Brett told the college girl he couldn’t sign her chest cause his girlfriend wouldn’t like it. I liked how Maya and Brett became a team and finally admitted to each other at his championship game that they loved each other. It was such a great feeling when his sister finally admitted that she could see that they loved each other. It was such a great story and was so well written. Thank you for your free book it was really appreciated. I am freely leaving this review.

A Pucking Chance is an enemies to lovers hockey romance.

Brett had a lot to learn about team work and cooperation. He was a bit of a hot head and it blew up in his face. He takes it out on Maya, who is a sports writer. She writes about how he isn't a team player and it gives him a bit of a bad wrap with fans. However, Maya wants to take a new turn with her articles and works with Brett to change his image, while she reports on this.

These two had a lot of chemistry together. Even when they were enemies you could see the heat between them. When they decided to work together, the sheets were set on fire with their attraction for each other.

Short story of love and second chances. Maya and Brett met accidentally in the mens locker room. She was trying to get her foot into the sports journalist world. But when she stumbles and falls, Brett can't contain himself in taking a cheap shot at her. Maya's revenge hurts his career and ego. She posted an article calling Brett, "The worst player on ice." Brett needs to "reclaim his reputation."

Maya realizes her latest article didn't help either of them. Soon, it realizes that if they work together in coaching a high school, he can restore himself and her career. It's a good story, but it's missing some much needed pieces. I felt the author hurried the story.

Enemies to lovers sort of.  I didn't hate this book but I also didn't love it.  It was a quick easy read.  Maya is a journalist struggling to make it and Brett is a big hockey star that doesn't trust his team so tries to do everything himself and ends up messing it up. She writes a scathing story about him but then feels guilty and wants to try and fix the damage.  The instant attraction was believable but there wasn't much depth to the story or the characters.  There's one line in the book that I scoffed at, "I have fallen in love with this man, despite my best efforts not to" and all I could think was, what bloody effort?!?! There was no denial or holding back anywhere in the book. 3 🌟

A pucking chance by Julia Savan is a fun quick enemies to lovers read. I loved the banter and spice between Maya an aspiring Hockey reporter and Brett the star player and captain of the Artic Blades!
One of my favorite scenes is when Brett decides to stop into his sisters house unannounced and everyone has an "oh shit" moment. The only thing I didn't love is how quick this book went by! I wished it was longer or part of a bigger series!

I received an Advanced Reader Copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion and review.

Cute, quick easy read.
Brett and Maya don't get off to the best start, Maya wants a scoop to prove herself as a sports journalist whilst Brett doesn't seem to trust his team mates and when he catches Maya listening in he yells at her, making her write an article which is not good press for him.
Maya tries to make amends but can't fight her attraction for Brett despite her best friend warning her away from Brett who happens to be her step brother.

Can they actually help each other to reach their goal?

For what the story was meant to be, it was good. I saw so much more for the characters and plot, but it was a shorter novel and was just kind of rushed. I dont know if I'd say enemies to lovers since they kinda were bothered by each other briefly at the beginning before they both couldn't help how they felt about one another and were in love in a months time.

I dont know, I guess it was just meh. Short enough to not have been a waste of time but definitely not a curcle back or reread situation.

I liked this story. Maya and Brett make the perfect misfit couple. She has been writing trash pieces just to stay afloat, and Brett is the most recent topic. Brett just wants to get back on the hockey team that he has given his heart to, only to have it slapped away.
This is the first read of Ms Savan and I am definitely going to read her next one.

“A Pucking Chance” by Julia Savan

-A fast-paced romance between a determined journalist and a devoted hockey captain.
Maya and Brett’s chemistry sparks as they chase their dreams while colliding with each other. Can he trust her?
The step-sister added charm, though a bit more of her would have been great.
A short, engaging read with just the right amount of sports and heart.

A Pucking Chance is a great read. My only complaint is that is isn't longer lol..

Maya is a reporter trying to catch her big break. Bella is her BFF. Brett is a hockey player that made a bad call and lost the game for his team. Will writing a story about Brett help Maya's career or will it hurt her dreams to become a big time hockey reporter? Guess you better read to find out!

What a sweet book! She starts out with Maya being very negative towards Brett. But he gives her a chance to redeem herself. Through the book him coaching, they undeniably have a deep connection to each other. Such a sweet ending. I hate to say anymore about the book’s details, but I can say very well written. Definitely an Enemies to Lovers Romance. But adds doing good things for children in the process. A must read!

It was a good short read. Being a short read it seemed like everything was a bit rushed from the plot to the relationship. There was shockingly more hockey content than I expected there to be. I was kind of disappointed in who the “villain” turns out to be even if they weren’t truly a villain. It easily could have had more depth but I did enjoy it for what it was.

A Pucking chance was just the short and steamy hockey romance I needed. I wasn’t sure about Brett’s attitude to begin with but he definitely grew on me. I loved his development and how Maya made him a better person. The ending was perfect and wrapped it all up in a happy package. A sweet enemies to lovers, with Maya wanting the universe to take her seriously as a journalist. She takes interest in the local hockey team and the center and captain Brett. She almost ruins his career and decided to change her tactics to help instead of hurt him.

It is a hockey romance that starts off on rocky ground. Her scalding hockey articles begin a string of collision between the two of them. Furthermore she happens to be his sister’s best friend. It will be one tricky situation to be handling as they soon fall for each other.

I had a hard time with suspension of disbelief on this one with some of the character choices. The dialogue felt really stiff and the 3rd act conflict was pretty contrived. The plot felt a bit like filler instead of enhancing the building romantic connection. I needed more show instead of tell.
