When the university’s star player tackles Willa Taylor to the ground, she has no idea her life is about to be turned upside down. Trent Hightower, one of the most popular guys on campus, is a catch, but as a grad student finishing her last year, Willa’s not interested in dating.
Neither is Trent, who begs Willa to tutor him. But when the tutoring begins, so does the stalking. One day Willa is living the life she fought hard to achieve, and the next, she’s staring at a pile of instant pictures, capturing her every move.
As the stalking escalates to dangerous levels, Willa’s world unravels, exposing secrets buried in the past and a new world full of superpowers, rival government factions, and a ruthless leader bent on revenge.

Author of steamy contemporary and paranormal romance books, Stella Brie lives outside of Nashville, TN, with her husband and golden retriever, Bailey. After her husband challenged her to write a paragraph, she wrote a book! Ideas are pestering her night and day now. She's currently in her writing cave, but when not writing, you can find her reading, boxing, traveling and all the other good things in life.
2 ⭐️ Willa (Greer) is being stalked at college where she is studying to become a physical therapist. What follows is kind of a haphazard ride with kidnapping, murder, a secret government military facility for gifteds, a budding RH, a love interest lacking much chemistry but with dramatic love declarations at the end and lots more.
At one point she is beaten and thrown off a cliff into a waterfall and the dumb villians who do it just so happen to have mountaineering equipment to rappel down the mountain after her when they see she is able to get to land and survive.
It’s hard to believe this messy plot is from the same author that wrote the Killian Blade series.
One little pet peeve of mine when they are gun training at the military facility: “Her comfortability with the weapon and each position is clear”
“Comfortability” is not a word. Ease, familiarity, or just plain old comfort would be a better choice. Praying that this term doesn’t make it into dictionary because of people using it so much.
If you like dystopian, sci/fi paranormal plots and twists this series may be worth a try.
Alright, first off this cover needs a revamp because this gives you no insight into what you are getting from this book and I think a more accurate cover may be helpful on Kindle! That of course is just a note, not a reason for my rating. spoilers.
Why did I rate this a 2 when I actually enjoyed the read? 1) River. 2) The military elements, let's dive into it then I'll say what I liked! 3) flow/editing.
1) River. Girl. Are you the dumbest human being to ever live on the entire face of the planet. Everyone knew this man was a spy. Every single person but you. He VERY conveniently was there when you needed him, lied constantly and about stupid things. Wasn't with his mother and sister when he loved them as much as he did? Come on. It makes me dislike the main character if we are being honest because of this. This level of stupid will be incredibly hard to bounce back from later in the series.
2) This book has that dystopian feel and that is great, however in this book several times we get bogged down in minute details and militaristic thinking patterns. I get that when it's the guys pov but when it's greer's that style doesn't make a ton of sense and it made me want to just scan the section and get to the next area. This started with the stalking details, then the level of information we get when they are on the run, then all the process details while she was at the facility. It took away from the human aspects of this book quite a bit and I think it was a missed opportunity because the bones of the book are there but do we care about any of the characters involved or do I mostly know how she trains with a gun and the detailed information about her being on the run, or even later all the mission lingo and actual military men.
3) Flow/editing. I honestly think if someone had said "Hey we get it, it's a military style book with military guys let's step back on some of this and give them conversations instead" this book would have been more coherent and not as stagnant in parts. I think even wtmith River who was her big support system we don't have a lot of emotion to go on except she was scared and latched onto him.
We also have scenes where characters weren't there then appear and are just confusing. An example is the last scene in Greer's room. Jax and Quaid are in the room when the TV is on, then Quaid is discussing looking at Oliver. I read it three times and could not find when Oliver came into the scene, if I missed it I apologize!
Now what I liked/rest of the review.
I like who Greer may become. I get that she just found out about this world and needs time to adapt but at times I wanted to slap her. River clearly being untrustworthy with a million red flags is a pretty damning reason to dislike her, but the part that really got me was that she didn't want to stay at the facility because the clothes were bland and it was badly painted. Mam. that view is so incredibly naive especially when she has net numerous people who were starving and running from the government and who have had their families killed. To have that knowledge and say no I think I want to leave before I have any skills to survive, I am sure I'll figure it out just....is such a privileged annoying take. I am hoping she grows up, even though she is somehow 24 with this behavior but I have faith in some growth.
The guys. We don't get a lot of insight into the magic system that creates the bonds or really how the magic system works which again I am hoping for in book two, but having said that she obviously has a bond with the 4 men and I wish we had more of them, or more interaction with them. They spend this time in the compound and we get again more strategy conversations about how buildings are protected than we get interactions with the people in this book. We get a small look into Oliver and Quaid but I would have liked to see more so we can make a clear connection.
Overall, I am conflicted by this book. When I read it I thought I was the authors first book because some of the editing choices and lack of depth, but after seeing a few reviews I learned I was wrong. i think it has super good bones, but that is because I like paranormal romance that has government aspects and they are not lacking in number. The detail out into the action sequences is good but give us heart in this as well. I hope she writes the next book so we can see some growth. Though, adding Greer to the team because she magically now has control after one week is a stretch too.
I read the story without reading the synopsis so I was thrown off when the paranormal element was introduced. There was so much potential for being a good contemporary non-paranormal story but it’s still okay. I think I’ll give the next book a try… maybe
Intriguing storyline but the execution didn’t work for me. At first I thought it was just my mood but as I got further in I realized it was the writing. The events that are happening are very emotional but the writing failed to invoke any feeling in me. The interactions in a lot of the scenes felt wooden and not natural.
I struggled with the flow and pacing of the story too and the romance suffered because of it. In the beginning I thought Trent was possibly a MC but there was no chemistry. So it threw the whole beginning off for me. Then he dies, okay great. We meet River and Jordan and it was the same thing, no chemistry and now I’m not trusting if either of them are in the harem. The stuff with River was way too insta. Then she finally meets some other MCs at 50% and now I’m confused because the blurb said FMMM so three guys right? But we have four possibilities. I’m still struggling with her connection to River and that is the only romance we’re actually seeing. Well then he dies. 😵💫😵💫 So the only romance we had in this whole book is with a character who died and who I never even felt the chemistry with.
As a romance it was so incredibly unsatisfying and so many interactions felt like such a waste of time. The other guys are super intriguing and interesting and sort of me would like to see where it was going with them but because ai struggled so much in this one with the romance in this one I don’t actually trust the author to pull it out. Maybe by the time book two comes out I’ll forget how much this one didn’t work for me?!
Overall: 1.5

The premise of this story is really intriguing but the execution wasn’t great.
The pacing is all wrong. There isn’t enough build up or tension at any point. The FMC’s emotions feel flat and she moves on from trauma in minutes.
So much happens in this book but the reactions to it are so bland, the FMC almost seems to not actually have emotions.
There’s also no real passion between her and R, it feels very rushed and lacking.
This is one of only a few books that I’ve ever thought needed more rather than less. The action scenes are good but it’s hard to connect with the losses etc. when the characters we know all seem so emotionally stunted. There’s not enough investment in the characters, their stories, personalities, thoughts, or feelings. It felt like the author was rushing between plot points and ignoring the need to get the reader emotionally invested.
Wow! Read this book. I went into this book blind. Had no idea what this was about and let me tell you, it wasn't what I was expecting.
It starts out in what appears to be a contemporary meet-cute between a graduate student and the star football player. Soon he finds a way to meet her each week by asking her to tutor him in his studies. However, a sinister stalker starts to follow her around taking pictures. Does Trent have something to do with that?
She quickly learns that her parents death may not have been accidental at all and that they were possibly murdered. The stalker might have been involved with that. This sets up a series of harrowing events that lead Willa to run for her life.
The plot was fast-paced and an absolutely riveting page turner. This isn't a contemporary run of the mill romance. Nope. But that's all I'm gonna say about that. There are a couple of plot twists I certainly didn't see coming. A couple that are truly heartbreaking.
Plot outweighed the romance. It's slow burn and slow build. You do not know for sure who will be on the harem. (Psst, you may get a clue by the POVs though). There are kisses with someone but none with her potential harem. (I'm really biting my tongue here....)
Tropes (some in the making) -Romantic suspense -Found family -Chosen one -Fated mates -Supernatural powers -FMMM (as stated in the blurb) -Spice .5 of 5 -Slow burn -Slow build (there is no harem to speak of)
Triggers Death Gun violence Physical assault Kidnapping
I actually loved some of the themes of this book. But Greer, girl!! How is she this trusting? I get it she's been sheltered and her life is upended. But she is quick with telling people her life story and then just telling her intuition to shut it. And that's BEFORE she meets River... bloody River...
I don't even understand why we needed River to take up this much space in the book. He was a spy, it was very very very obvious! And sis just followed him around. I don't dislike her character but I feel like she needs some serious instincts that refuse to fully come to the surface.
Her harem could be great men, but how would I know? They aren't given enough to create that bond at least to me.
I say all this knowing very well I shall read the next book LOL...
I loved the intrigue and finding out what really goes on with the testing is something I'm looking forward to. Greer... I hope she grows as a character a bit more
This was such an intriguing story with so many twists and turns I didn’t see coming. Only in one case I just knew something had to happen, but I didn’t expect what actually happened at all and honestly, I don’t know how I feel about that and I already can’t wait how the author will deal with the aftermath. It's also super slow burn. Not only relationship wise, but also characters’ build wise. We basically don’t know anything about the male characters, because there wasn’t much interaction with the FMC. The book was more focused on the thrilling action than the actual build of the relationships. So I can’t wait to see how it will go on, if it stays more story focused or if we also get some romance.
Willa/Greer survives her parents death at 16 only to have her life turned upside down by an evil organization, who believes she has psychic powers ~ 10 years later. After a life altering event, she is forced to go in the run, ultimately being saved by a covert group of soldiers with psychic abilities of their own.
this book was written well, but I felt like it was a little less cohesive than her other books. 🤷♀️ I look forward to continuing the series ... however ...
** spoiler **
I am not a fan of the bad guys coming back to life or the "resurrection" trope, so depending how that ending plays out in the next book will shape the series for me.
The characters in the book are all 24+ years old, but they don't seem like it; the book reads like a YA novel.
The training montages were cliched and overdone and the naivety of the FMC was really boring. While she often talked about her losses and grief, I never once felt her emotions. I couldn't connect with any of the MC's, everything seemed surface level and the writing was sophomoric.
The idea of magic was cool, nothing groundbreaking or original but the magic seemed to take a backseat a lot of the time.
The book ends on a cliffhanger, but the base story wasn't interesting enough for me to continue the series.
This book was a fun ride from start to finish! An extremely slow burn, plot driven story, with twists I never was completely sure where they would go. Willa had an idyllic life until her parents were tragically taken from her, and her world never stopped spinning since then.
This world of psychic powers and shadow government organizations was so fun to explore! in true Stella Brie fashion, there was so much going on! and I loved every minute of it! I'm excited to see who becomes part of Willa's harem, and where the story goes from here
Sci fi thriller where people with rh negative blood type and their recessive progeny develop odd psychic powers to control different things. Our heroine was orphaned at 16, but cared for by her loving "uncle" since then. Now 24, she's finishing her doctorate when her world explodes. To save her life, her hidden power over water reveals itself in a Dramatic manner. On the run she discovers a whole sub world of people with powers hiding from evil government players looking to exploit them. Tragedy spurs her rebellion and the book ends with no conclusion.
I was really intrigued by this concept. Honestly this is like giving me X-men vibes- which I am loving.
The relationships are kinda confusing for me though. I’m not sure who is or isn’t involved with the FMC at the moment.
Also, the plot or details regarding the plot seemed all over the place at the end. The FMC is still a mystery and we still don’t know what makes her the ‘special one’. But I’m here for the story and I’m really looking forward to pick up the next book.
3.5* Mixed feelings. Stella Brie is still one of my favorite authors, but I didn’t feel like this lived up to her other writing. Having said that, it has a lot of potential. It just felt a bit rushed and kinda surface level. Not sure if I agree what happened at the end was necessary, unless it was needed to “unlock” the FMC. The characters are rubbing me the wrong way in this one I think. But like it said, it has potential, so hopefully we’ll see a lot of growth in the next one.
Hated the ending. Saw River being a double agent from the very beginning. Hated the sacrifice at the end and the little monologues. A monologue from his mom before she dies, a monologue from his sister before she dies and a monologue for a river before he dies.
The romance also felt forced with everyone but River.
I'm a Stella Brie fan. I haven't found a book she's written that I dislike. This new series is no exception. Bound by Water dives into people with powers. Willa is a great FMC. She is thrown headfirst into a new world, awful situations, and faces tremendous loss. However, she doesn't give up. It takes her a minute to find her footing, but she is going to be a force! Looking forward to the rest of this series. Dive in, you won't be disappointed!
I told myself wait until the next book comes out, but I didn’t listen. This book was exhausting. It started getting intense about 15-19% in and it didn’t even stop. I couldn’t put the book down. Stella you out did yourself. I love your stories. This book is excellent, great read. It’s a definite reread, but I’ll wait until the next book before doing so, and I hope it’s soon.
What a way to start a series! This book starts fast and doesn’t slow down. The world building is interesting and leaves you wanting more as it doesn’t give you everything at once. The characters and their lives draw you in and I need to know what’s happening next because that ending… waaaahh!
Yes it's a hit, this is a good start to a series and different I Wasnt sure at first about fmc sorry she was getting on my nerves being quite whiney, but, she looking good to go now. Not sure who the men will be in the harem but it's looking to be a good selection and us learning more about them all and their powers in the next one.
3.5⭐️ really good start to a series but I definitely could have done with a bit more romance. There was no spice at all, which was fine but I don’t feel like I could see sparks between any of the characters.
I really loved the twists though. It didn’t just follow the usual plot and really kept you guessing.
Twist! I wish I could read the whole series right now! more This was an intriguing find for me. A slow burn reverse harem (with no spice this book!), with dynamic characters, drama in spades, an easily understood and relatable world, - makes this a unique and riveting read. I’m impatiently waiting for the next instalment.
It was alright. The cover is really not fitting the plot, so that’s something to revise. Additionally the blurb gives no indication at all of what the plot really is! The blurb is pretty much the first 10% or so of the book. It was quite fast paced and I cringed a bit. Overall a somewhat entertaining read, but I won’t be reading it again.
Loved this book, it had me hooked by the first paragraph. The characters are dynamic and this was purely plot driven. Zero hanky pinky at all. So if that’s what you want, this ain’t it. The story is fantastic and I cannot wait to read more.
What a great story and new to me Author. Hooked me from the start and the story just flowed. Great character development, just enough spice. I can’t wait for the next one!
For a why choose this has really no spice and is mostly world building. If you like a lot of plot and a really long slo burn you will dig it. Otherwise there are other series that offer similar sets up with a lot more bang ( literally and figuratively)
I really enjoy this contemporary with a dystopian feel and some have powers. It is such a different read. I really like Willa and her character so far. I can't wait to see what happens next
Really enjoyed reading this book - lots of unexpected plot twists and storyline. Intrigued to see where the story goes, although still not sure about the relationship side of things, would love that to pick up a bit!
