The Dangers of Daydreaming

Rate this book
Finn Harrison is nothing like Gilbert Blythe… Right?

Some people collect souvenirs—Lucy Sinclair collects disasters. So, she’s settled with traveling via the pages of her favorite books. But when a coveted promotion hinges on a trip to Prince Edward Island—home of Anne of Green Gables—she’s forced to swap fiction for the real thing.

Finn stopped making plans the day his dad went to prison. Now he’s happy with his predictable life running tours for his grandparents. That is, until his grandpa ends up in the hospital, and his junior high crush ends up in his tour group. Suddenly, Finn’s carefully controlled world threatens to unravel… or maybe fate is offering him a second chance at the life he thought he’d lost.

As picturesque destinations, late-night conversations, and unexpected emergencies throw Lucy and Finn together, Lucy starts to could Finn be more like Gilbert than she’d always thought? And could reality, for once, live up to fiction?

The problem is… Happily ever after might be waiting on the other side of the ocean.

The Dangers of Daydreaming is a sweet romantic comedy with all of the swoon and none of the spice.

Karen Thornell grew up reading when she should have been sleeping, but it wasn't until 2019 that she started writing. Tired of ending books and saying 'goodbye' to beloved characters, she wondered what it would be like to have her own characters that lived in her head always. It was probably a mark of sleep deprivation that she wanted people living in her head, but the idea was planted regardless.

Karen lives in Utah with her husband and kids. When not writing contemporary or regency romance, she spends her free time doing endless loads of laundry, playing board games, and, yes, talking to those characters in her head.

So perfectly dreamy!!

Lucy is excited to finally visit Prince Edward Island, the setting of her favorite book, Anne of Green Gables, even if it is a work trip for the travel agency she works for. She is surprised to find Finn, her junior high nemesis, working at the B&B but despite his Gilbert-like charm, she is determined to focus so she can earn a promotion at work.

Finn has never forgotten his junior high crush and though he is not one for flings, he can't seem to stay away from Lucy. She is a bright spot for him when everything else in his life seems to be falling to pieces and is determined to show Lucy that real life is better than fiction.

What you'll love:
vacation romance
dual pov
teenage crush
PEI setting
Anne & Gilbert vibes
site-seeing trips
storybook references
the first date
Gram
shared memories
that first kiss!!
the hotel room
the amusement park
cute banter
the epilogue!!

I am a massive fan of Anne of Green Gables (my forever favorite story!) and though it is NOT a retelling and you do not need to have ever read the book to love this one, all of the references and nods to the story and to made my heart sing! There are definitely some Anne and Gilbert vibes between Finn and Lucy and let me just say, I was so here for all of it!!

Loved all the fun and flirty moments (there are too many to list or count!) and all the site seeing trips (even Finn's made up ones) and oh my, that first date melted my heart! But there was also so much wonderful character growth for both Finn and Lucy. In fact, Lucy's realizations reminded me of Anne's remark that "it's not what the world holds for you, it's what you bring to it." Their growth opened them both up to a real relationship and a real life happily ever after.

So much to love in this rom-com for everyone who enjoys sweet and swoony romance! This one has all the magic of an unforgettable summer romance and it is splendid to discover another story full of kindred spirits!

4.75 stars!

This was a very cute story! I loved all of the references to Anne of Green Gables. I also loved that it mostly took place on Prince Edward Island. Finn and Lucy didn’t get along as kids much like Anne and Gilbert. Lucy is on a business trip and runs into Finn. They reconnect and clear up past confusions. Finn is very persistent in asking Lucy out. She wants to go out with him but doesn’t want it to just be a fling so she is worried. They of course get a happily ever after. Finn’s grandparents were another great part of the story and I really liked them. Overall, this was a great read and I recommend, especially to Anne of Green Gables fans!

Can a teenage crush become something more real? Readers will see this created in Karen Thornell's new romcom, The Dangers of Daydreaming. This sweet love story will appeal to fans of Anne of Green Gables. It’s not a retelling, but the main character, Lucy, has loved the book most of her life. It influences much of her world, especially since she works as a travel agent planning a literary tour in a contest. Naturally, she picks Prince Edward Island as her destination. When she arrives, fate steps in, and her teenage rival, Finn Harrison, shows up offering to help her out of a bad situation.

Seeing Lucy and Finn meet again after ten years is a lot of fun. They share playful teasing and witty banter. But there are serious moments too — Lucy’s mom’s wedding plans are driving her crazy, and Finn’s grandparents’ issues with their B&B and bad health add twists and turns to the story. Through all this, there's a lovely thread of hope mixed with a little bit of trepidation, making the story feel realistic and genuine.

"The Dangers of Daydreaming" is a charming summer romance. It's filled with moments that will make you smile and features two characters who genuinely bring out the best in each other. If you're looking for a heartwarming and enjoyable read, this book will make a perfect choice.

••I give 5 stars!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

~Could reality, for once, live up to fiction? The problem is... Happily ever after might be waiting on the other side of the ocean…

“Some things are worth going out of your comfort zone for.”

-THE DANGERS OF DAYDREAMING, is a lovely romantic comedy with plenty of swoon and with none of the spice! It is blended with an unforgettable dreamy romance with kindred spirits at heart! It’s a story where reality turns out might be better than fiction. While this is not a retelling of the beloved Anne of Green Gables, it has such the best references and sweet tributes to this dear story. There are definitely some Anne and Gilbert vibes. From them, the value of humor and day dreams and reframing the world around you when plans get changed or looking ahead to the future.
I thoroughly enjoyed the character growth along the way. Which in turn, led to hearts and minds open more to the possibility of a happily there after, being better than any book. Seeing characters feel loved and going for their dreams together made me happy! This is a cute story with an unforgettable emphasis on the fact that anywhere can be special surrounded by those we love and who love us in return.
Worth the read!🙌🏻📚🩷

The Dangers of Daydreaming is part of the Love Connections series and features Lucy and Finn. This wholesome story is a like a love letter to all things Anne of Green Gables and is set in Prince Edward Island. Lucy and Finn had first meet at school when Lucy thought Finn hated her years later they meet again when Lucy needs to plan a vacation to Prince Edward Island for her work. This was an enjoyable read but I did feel the ending was a little rushed and we didn’t get some answers to some of the stories throughout the book. I received a complementary copy from the author.

This was a cute slow burn romance. Lucy, an avid fan of “Anne Of Green Gables” has the opportunity to go to Prince Edward Island to put together a literary tour as a competition for a promotion at work. Although it is a dream location, Lucy has a past filled with travel disasters. Because of this she usually sticks to traveling through the pages of a book. But she couldn’t turn this down, right?

True to form the feared travel nightmares ensue. From lost bookings to meeting her nemesis from junior high, Finn. He had made her life miserable. But it’s been 10 years. A lot can change.

Unbeknownst to Lucy, Finn had actually been her own Gilbert Blythe. His teenage teasing had actually been an awkward attempt at showing Lucy his affection and trying to get her attention.

I enjoyed the nods to “Anne Of Green Gables”, though you really don’t have to have read it to understand this story. If you like the second chances and close proximity tropes you will enjoy this book.

The Dangers of Daydreaming by Karen Thornell

Attention ALL Anne Lovers, ahem, I mean Gilbert Blythe lovers! Karen Thornell has written a book for us! Whether you are a fan of the books, the tv series, or just Gilbert himself (you know who you are!), check out this delightful trip to Prince Edward Island that will have you going on a roller coaster of emotions! I was giggling, swooning, wondering what they would do, and tearing up at a few parts. I absolutely adored Finn and Lucy's sweet story.

There are so many parts to love! I loved ALL of the Anne of Green Gables' references-the rivals/tease to more, taking place on PEI, spending time on the beach, the rooftop, vocation, and the fact that this whole book revolved around the series and tv show. It was particularly fun because I just finished reading the full Anne series back in May for the first time, so it made this book even more delightful. It has me wanting to reread the books again, rewatch the Megan Follows version of the movies, and visit Prince Edward Island stat!

Finn is such a tease, but also really chivalrous. I loved coming to see him through Lucy's eyes and discovering that he was much more than a tease during the story and maybe even in junior high? The date he takes her on is so sweet and everything he does to help her with getting her promotion will have you turning the pages and swooning.

Oh, and their first kiss! It will knock your socks off, like it did Lucy's. (metaphorically of course!)

I adored that ending! No spoilers here. You just need to read it for yourself, which I highly recommend you doing as soon as possible! I promise you won't regret it.

“I’d decided something back in sixth grade, and reaffirmed it now: Finn couldn’t be my Gilbert.”

Lucy and Finn have the most utterly adorable and iconic relationship ever. Anne of Green Gables obsessed, Lucy’s on a competition work trip to plan an itinerary for a possible literary tour. And who does she run into right away, in desperate need of help? Her old middle school nemesis–Finn.

The symbolisms between this classic and real life are incredibly heartwarming. While Finn tried to play the role of a teasing and annoying Gilbert back then, he’s grown and matured somewhat and shares similarities to Anne in his own personal life. All the gestures, big and small, add up to frantically trying to capture the attention of a lifetime crush. These charismatic characters and their swoony connection left me melting.

I’m hopelessly in love with this setting, this couple, and every single event that occurred. I’m ready to book a trip to experience both stories firsthand. I’m totally a fan of Karen Thornell’s writing. She brings this installment of the Love Connections series to life in the most magical way and impressed this book into my heart. I can’t wait for more stories of this sweet group of cousins.

Content: mild romance; talk of past parental death/abandonment/divorce

I couldn’t run away to Prince Edward Island physically today, though had I had the chance I would easily jumped on a plane! So I took myself off to a river that gave me better “scope for the imagination.”

This book was delightful. A lovely escape from the world and dive into Anne of Green Gables’ Prince Edward Island but in our contemporary world.

I loved the many nods Thornell made to the classic through our characters Lucy and Finn. I truly want to hop on a plane and explore all the beloved PEI locations. Have you been?

While reading this lovely book I checked out the Audiobook of Anne of Green Gables and blew through it. It was lovely to dive into Anne’s world right along with Lucy. It’s been ages since I’ve read it so it was long overdue.

I will read anything by Karen Thornell and I’m so glad I read this one. If you haven’t read her books add them high to your list, she writes Regency and Contemporary romance. You won’t regret it!

Okay, this book has me wanting to consume all things related to Anne of Green Gables. Finn was the perfect nod to Garrett, showing some of his most memorable qualities. Lucy was a fun nod to Anne, with her enthusiasm for life. Her love for travel satisfied my reading travel itch.

Favorite moments and themes:
Second chance
The bed and breakfast
Learning to plan
Finns relentless pursuit of Lucy
Takeout on the first date 😍
Gram
The start of a Reconciliation with family

Overall this is a fantastic romance novel. The romance was clean and kept to kisses only. I would recommend this to teenagers and older who are looking for a good travel romance. Thank you to the author for the advance copy of this book. A review was not required.

This is part of the multi author kisses only romcom Love Connections series. Each story is a standalone plot with some crossover characters. I will say that this book does have some spoiler type information for the ending of the first book, The Risks of Reuniting by Aspen Hadley.

If you are an Anne of Green Gables fan, I think you'd enjoy this book. The majority of the story takes place in Prince Edward Island and centers around locations mentioned in those stories.

I thought it was charming and well done. I really enjoyed the characters and the setting.

I was given the opportunity to read an advanced digital copy of this book. I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

“That’s how boys show their love? It would have been much clearer if he’d handed me a “do you like me, check yes or no” note in Algebra.”

What a wonderful story filled with Anne and Gilbert vibes!! As a fan of Anne of Green Gables I absolutely loved every minute of this story!! Finn and Lucy go through quite a transformation. Both individually and together and I loved how Karen allowed her characters to work through the difficult topics, the distance they faced, and how they evolved through the story. ♥️

“Something about being with a beautiful woman makes me strangely forgetful. I’d be most appreciative if you could tell me what I was about to do.”

What are the odds of Lucy taking a work trip to Prince Edward Island only to encounter her junior high nemesis Finn? Yep, she is definitely cursed when it comes to traveling!!

In competition for a promotion at work, Lucy travels to Prince Edward Island. All she has to do is create the perfect literary itinerary and beat out her competitors. How hard could it be? Very difficult as she comes to find out when she gets off her plane to find none of her reservations are actually booked. By happen chance (or curse) Finn, who works at his grandparents B&B and runs tour groups, happens to see she is in need of a room, tours, and transportation.

Finn seizes this opportunity and time to see if his crush from junior high is still the fiery girl he knew and loved! And as he finds out, she is still obsessed with Anne of Green Gables…

“Anne taught me that I could escape without the pages of a book. She taught me the importance of humor and daydreams and reframing the world around you.”

What I loved
🚐 the meet cute
🚐 Anne of Green Gables vibes
🚐 Finn’s grandparents
🚐 The Hasting’s family
🚐 The many van rides and conversations
🚐 Staring down death 🐶🤣
🚐 The pillow fight
🚐 Carnival rides
🚐 Finn and Lucy’s date

‘Yesterday had shown me in stark, painful detail that no matter how few plans I made, no matter how much I lived in the moment, no matter how much I distracted myself from things I didn’t like, life’s plans had a way of making themselves known.’

Thank you to the author for the gifted copy. All thoughts are my own.

“…there’s beauty in ordinary days, too. Not every page in a book is a quotable moment.”

* Hehehe starting off good
* I already just love him
* This has me giggling so much
* He’s just too dang thoughtful!
* He read her favorite books 😭🫶
* I literally just love everything about this
* The communication! Yes! 👏
* I’m crying 😭
* What?!
* Got me kicking my feet hehe

Finn Harrison 😍 Need I say more?

“Harrison, you look terrible.”
“Well, you look fantastic, so hopefully it makes up for me.”

This book! I absolutely LOVED it! I loved all the Anne of Green Gables and Anne v. Gilbert vibes. SO good! The grandparents were hilarious, Finn was a dreamboat, and you’ll have another travel location to add to your bucket list. What more could you want?

Lucy and I have a lot in common. And I loved how bookish she was. She had lots of reasons to be wary of Finn, but I loved watching her take a leap of faith and start to live and enjoy her life more fully.

“Why was a man holding a book so attractive?”

And oh, Finn. He is perfect parts flirty, swoony, and gentlemanly, and I love him. We got to see him decide what’s worth taking risks and then go for it, and it was so good!

“Everything I’d ever desired was right here in front of me, and I wasn’t taking my eyes off of her until I absolutely had to.”

And Lucy and Finn together? The banter! The flirting! The chemistry! 10/10 no notes. 👏

“I was wrong about real life versus fiction. I love you, Finn. And it’s better than any book.”

Do yourself a favor and pick this one up!

Thank you to the author for the ebook. All opinions are my own.

The Dangers of Daydreaming
A Novel Written By Karen Thornell
Fiction - Romance
Published June 2025
281 Pages
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This is Book 2 in A Love Connections Sweet Romcom Series. Each of the six books in the collection takes readers to a different destination. The destination in this book is Prince Edward Island.

I have never been to Prince Edward Island. I want to now after reading this book.

This was the first book I have read by this author. I liked her writing style and the banter between the two main characters. I’m looking forward to reading more of her books.

Lucy Sinclair and Finn Harrison knew each other in junior high in Utah. He was her nemesis. She mistook his teasing as being mean. In reality his actions were his way of showing he had a crush on her.

Ten years later they meet again on Prince Edward Island. Finn has been living there with his grandparents since leaving Utah. A work trip has brought Lucy to the island. She is creating a literary tour based on the book Anne of Green Gables for a promotion for work.

I loved learning about the sights on PEI, especially the ones connected to Anne of Green Gables. I enjoyed the humor in this book, especially between the two main characters. I liked that Lucy and Finn can see each other with a new set of eyes now that they are older and more mature.

This was such a wonderful story. As a huge Anne of Green Gables fan, I loved the comparisons and references to the classic story. I really need to read it again, especially as I am heading to Prince Edward Island in the fall and this book gave me some great tips for sights to see.

I loved Finn and Lucy though. From childhood nemesis to knight in shining armour, Finn broke down Lucy’s defences. Although she quickly forgave him for his childhood teasing and pranks, she was unwilling to let her heart take control when it came to romance with him.

Finn was patient and loyal and caring. He didn’t hesitate to offer her help when she needed it, a room at the B&B, a place on his tours, showing her round the island, even on his days off. He also stepped in quickly when she needed a room at the overnight hotel on the tour when her roommate became ill with food poisoning.

Lucy went to the island with one goal, her promotion. She never stopped thinking about it, but at the same time, she threw herself into the whole Anne experience, being a lifelong fan. I loved how she kept comparing Finn to Gilbert, trying to spot their differences but they are both perfect guys.

I also loved seeing the cousins chat again, the connecting theme in this multi-author series. And Finn’s supporting case of his grandparents and his tour group were great fun too.

4.25 / 4.5 ⭐️

This was addicting! I started this and did not put it down until I finished. The writing was extremely bingable, the characters were super likable and I really loved the plot.

I feel like our FMC is a lot of women in their late 20s, early 30s who want to focus on their career, but also want love and feel like their in a push and pull / tug of war situation as to what is the right thing to focus on. I really loved how our FMC put herself first throughout the entire book, and even when she changed her mind.. it was her choice and what she felt was best for her.

I loved that there was no third act miscommunication or conflict, there’s action that makes you worried for a minute, but there was never an unnecessary fight or conflict.

GRAMS. i adore her. she’s everything to me.

The vibes:
-Rivals to Lovers
-He falls first
-Travel Romance
-One Hotel Room
-Semi forced proximity

I def would recommend this one! it was a fun, quick, and bingable summer read!

Do you love second chance romance and Anne of Green gables? This book resulted in me binge planning a vacation to Prince Edward Island. Only a 10 hour drive. Maybe someday.

I loved the two main characters. They knew each other in junior high when Lucy was obsessed with Anne of Green Gables and Finn was trying to get her attention in all the worst ways. People change and sometimes people get a second chance. I love that this book was a fun story that took place on Prince Edward Island, but I loved even more that the characters faced real problems, both in their past and present. They both grew up a lot since junior high, but they also grew a lot in the chapters of this book. I loved the fun adventures and watching them deal with setbacks. It was a fun book in a fun setting, made more than just a fun book by the depth of the characters and their struggles. Lots of swoon without spice, perfect for the Anne of Green Gables lovers.

Anne Shirley would love this beautiful love story! @authorkarenthornell takes us to Prince Edward Island in this second book in the Love Connections series and it was so wonderfully atmospheric!
I grew up on Anne Of Green Gables and I loved all the nods to the classic as well as the love that Lucy had for that wonderful classic!
Lucy and Finn were fantastic characters and I loved them together! One of my favorite things was the personal growth that each of them had throughout the story. It really highlighted how the right person will inspire you to be the best version of yourself and well as making you feel safe enough to continue to grow!
They had the best banter, the sweetest moments, one of the cutest first dates, and some Anne-worthy romantic moments!
This series continues to be amazing and I can't wait to head to Alaska next!

A book about a literary tour of Prince Edward Island? Count me in!!

Other Things I loved....
✈️ He falls first - in junior high! This is such a cute childhood crush/2nd chance romance!
✈️ Alllllllll the Anne of Green Gables references. I loved when Lucy was talking about Gilbert as her book crush and she listed some of my other all-time favorites. I think every young girl who grew up reading and watching Anne of Green Gables can relate to the hold Gilbert has on our hearts!
✈️ The first kiss is SO good!
✈️ Along with the romance, the story tackles some deeper issues - jobs, life plans, and complex families.

This is part of the multi-author Love Connections series, but it's the first one I've read! I definitely recommend this one to Anne of Green Gables fans!

The Brief: In order to get the desired promotion, Lucy heads to Prince Edward Island to prepare a literary trip to offer the agency’s clients. Everything goes wrong including meeting her middle school nemesis at the airport.

The Debrief: I’ve been to PEI and I’ve gone on the Anne tour! The entire island is beautiful and exactly like I pictured it. I walked down Lovers Lane and could imagined every beloved scene and all the Anne words. So this was such a wonderful story to fall into. Lucy’s life mirrors so much of Anne, including her insecurities and red hair. Finn’s life resembles a bit of Gil so of course I was smitten. His dad like jokes and witty puns hid layers that were slowly peeled off and I was there for all the layers.

@authorkarenthornell does a great job describing picturesque scenes and flashbacks to help us see the characters more clearly. Just so charming and heartfelt. I want to go back and take @marilee.loves.to.read with me.

❤️the grandparents
❤️going to the carnival
❤️all the literary references
❤️dual POV
❤️little Anne life lessons
❤️crushes and crashes (not cars)

The Rhyme: Lucy truly needs this promotion and spending it in her favorite book’s reality is a dream. When Finn wants to be her kindred spirit, can she see more than the past made him seem?

Part of a multi author series, but stands alone. Complimentary copy. My thoughts. Kissing only. Visits to the hospital if that’s a trigger. Highly recommend. Loving all these summer trips!

This was my first book by Karen, and what a great one to start with! 📖💛 As someone who adored Anne of Green Gables growing up, this story gave me all the cozy, nostalgic vibes—and now I really want to plan a trip to PEI!

I loved following Lucy and Finn through all their sweet (and sometimes chaotic!) adventures. Finn’s Gilbert-style charm totally won me over—he was determined to win Lucy back, and it was so fun watching him try. His junior high antics? Hilarious. His grandma? Absolutely precious.

This is book two in the Love Connection multi-author series, and now I’m excited to read the rest! If you love second chances, charming small towns, and nods to classic literature, you’ll want this one on your summer reading list! 🍁💌

The Dangers of Daydreaming by Karen Thornell.

Lucy Sinclair is just trying to survive corporate life with minimal disasters and maximum fictional daydreaming…Then fate sends her to Prince Edward Island.

**yes, THAT Prince Edward Island!**

And maybe—just maybe—it sent her a modern-day Gilbert, too. While the endearment “Carrots” does make an appearance these two have a few more to share with each other😂😂

Cannot recommend this one enough!!!

The Dangers of Daydreaming is part of the Love Connections series. This is a multi-author series that, while interconnected (each book following one cousin), could be enjoyed as standalones as well.

If you are an Anne of Green Gables fan, this one is absolutely for you! Honestly though, the story may center around an Anne inspired trip to Prince Edward Island, but knowledge of the books really isn't necessary to enjoy this one. Yes, there are definitely nods to the story that fans will appreciate, but it's also just a really sweet romance all on its own. Lucy is book obsessed, with Anne being her longtime favorite, so planning a trip based around the books in order to get a promotion seems like the dream--- except she's cursed when it comes to traveling... something always seems to go wrong. But the last thing she expected when she arrived was to see her junior high nemesis! Finn and Lucy had a really cute chemistry between them that I couldn't help but enjoy. He might have had a big crush on her when they were younger... but he certainly didn't show it well. It was fun to see their history from both of their perspectives. They both had difficult histories that they needed to learn from, and I really enjoyed seeing their growth throughout the story. Their story had so much heart and I couldn't help but root for them to finally get that long awaited happily ever after!

The Dangers of Daydreaming is a closed-door romance with kisses only.

ARC REVIEW:

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫

Lucy Sinclair, a Salt Lake City based travel agent, is ready for a change. While she has loved helping others plan their dream vacation, her pay and stagnant job description isn’t cutting it anymore. So when she is given the opportunity of a lifetime, to plan a trip around her favorite book, Anne of Green Gables, she is over the moon. Traveling to Prince Edward Island (PEI) for on location research, she discovers her housing and tour accommodations are headed up by none other than Finn Harrison, the boy who made her middle school experience unbearable. Will two weeks be enough time to prove her worth as a travel agent, or will reconnecting with Finn prevent her from getting the job done?

Say it with me, “we listen, and we don’t judge.” I have never been a fan of Anne of Green Gables. As a young girl, my mom sat me down to watch the movie. I distinctly recall not enjoying the experience and being amazed at how it was so popular.

Fast forward a few decades, and I am an ARC reader for the multi-author series, The Love Connections. Being an interconnected series that follows six female cousins, I was obligated to read Karen Thornell’s The Danger of Daydreaming, which heavily references Anne of Green Gables. Needless to say, I had very low expectations and would have skipped this book completely if it was an option. Thankfully, it was not!

Not only did I fall in love with The Dangers of Daydreaming for completely changing my opinion on Anne of Green Gables, it won me over on its own merit. Thornell proved what an amazing writer she is. She created fully rounded characters whose character arcs pulled at my heartstrings.

Witnessing Lucy and Finn make the leap from enemies to lovers kept me turning page after page. I lived for their witty and playful banter. Their interactions perfectly illustrated how strong the chemistry between them truly was. So much so, that if this book turns out to be my favorite of the series, I won’t be surprised.

Read this book for:
-childhood enemies to adult lovers
-he falls first
-second chance
-dual POVs
-swoon worthy MMC
-all the feels with none of the spice

Special thanks to Karen Thornell for allowing me to read this book in exchange for my honest feedback. I can’t wait to read more of her work and give Anne another shot!

I love anything Anne of Green Gables related!! This book made me want to go visit PEI! I loved the parallels Lucy and Finn had with Anne and Gilbert.

Lucy was a sweetheart. She was so protective of herself and her heart but Finn had a way of bringing out the best in her. Even if she thought he was the menace from the past. I loved how her views shifted as they were able to talk about middle school.

Finn was a delightful character! He was funny, charming, and persistent! I loved how once he decided he was interested in more with Lucy, he stayed consistent in his interest.

Favorite moments:
-anytime they spent with Finn’s gram.
-their moment in the lighthouse
-their first date
-Lucy’s nickname for Finn

Favorite quotes:
There was one difference between preteen Finn and adult Finn. Somehow, at his current age, he did a really great job of helping me forget that I was annoyed with him.

“You’re taking this personal tour guide thing a little seriously.” She sounded wary, as if she didn’t trust my motives. I wouldn’t trust them either. “What’s wrong with wanting to help an old friend?” “I’m not sure I would have called you so much a friend as a menace.” “Aw, we’ve already reached the terms of endearment portion of our relationship? What should I call you? Pain in the—” She cleared her throat. “No?” I asked. “Maybe Carrots, then?” “You know, Anne didn’t like that nickname.”

She shrugged. “There are a lot of bodies in that van, who’s to say everyone else isn’t as hot as you are?” She froze in the act of pulling her purse over her shoulder. But then she continued, pretending she hadn’t had that little slip-up. “So you think I’m hot?” I crossed my arms, biting back a smile. “Not what I said, and you know it.” “It’s exactly what you said, actually.”

She thought for a moment longer. “Ordinary days.” “Really? I kinda thought you’d want the perfect day. The happily ever after moment.” I thought I saw her shrug, but clouds must have drifted across the moon because even the scant window light had gone. Just her voice floated across the expanse to me. “That’s a lot of pressure for one day. Plus, there’s beauty in ordinary days, too. Not every page in a book is a quotable moment.”

This book was so cute! I absolutely adored the Anne of Green Gables vibes. Though you don’t have to be a huge fan to appreciate it, there are so many nods to the classic book that Anne & Gilbert fans will love! It’s a classic enemies to lovers story with all the witty banter, deliciously romantic moments, & lovely character growth.

Lucy Sinclair’s promotion at work hinges on her traveling to Prince Edward Island to create the perfect tour capturing all the favorite places for Anne of Green Gables fans. What she doesn’t expect is to meet her jr. high nemesis Finn Harrison there. Forced to stay at his grandparents’ B&B, she takes Finn up on the tour he runs of the island. The more time she spends with him, her perceptions change & he might just finally persuade her to go on a date with him.

Finn’s life changed when his dad went to prison & he had to go live with his grandparents in Canada. But, he never forgot the girl he had a crush on in jr. high. Now she’s staying at his grandparents’ B&B & he has the opportunity to make her Anne of Green Gables lovin’ dreams come true as he takes her to all the hidden gems associated with the classic book. He’d love to date her, but he’s not one for imagining the future. And, what happens when she returns to Utah?

I loved Finn & Lucy! The fun teasing, & witty banter was perfection! I enjoyed those Anne & Gilbert feels & all the sightseeing adventures on Prince Edward Island. Their chemistry was off the charts & I thoroughly enjoyed the lighthouse, the amusement park, their first date, & that kiss!

Finn & Lucy experience a lot of character growth especially where their parents are concerned. They have issues to work through before they can commit & I enjoyed how they helped each other. Finn’s grandparents were adorable. I also liked Lucy’s cousins & can’t wait to get to know them better.

This is a darling story cozy romcom fans will love especially if you’re an Anne of Green Gables fan! It’s a standalone book in the Love Connections series & I’m excited to read the other books. I received an advanced copy from the author but also purchased through Kindle Unlimited. All opinions are my own & voluntarily provided.

Before I begin, I would like to thank Karen Thornell for allowing me to read her upcoming book, The Dangers of Daydreaming, which is part of the multi-author Love Connections series and will be available on Amazon on June 25th, 2025.

Lucy has always loved Anne of Green Gables. Even though she wanted to live on Prince Edward Island when she was younger, she’s learned time and again that reality is often more disappointing compared to fiction and stayed away. Finn has done his best to have low expectations and not plan for the future due to his rough childhood, but he can’t believe that his middle-school crush is on the island where he gives tours. Not only that, but she’s there for two weeks on a business trip, attending his tours and she remembers him (not as fondly). As they spend more time together, Lucy realizes that perhaps Finn is more similar to Gilbert Blythe than she thought but love stories worthy of fiction don’t just magically work in the real world, especially when the couple is separated by an ocean. Do Lucy and Finn have a chance to establish a romantic relationship strong enough to endure hardships that come their way?

This was a wonderful book. You have Lucy, a sassy, determined, clever, caring, and beautiful young woman that is competing for a work promotion, and loves Anne of Green Gables and her family. You have Finn, a strong, charismatic, smart, kind, and handsome young man that does tours near his family’s BNB and does his best to be there for his loved ones. I loved reading Anne of Green Gables when I was younger, and seeing references of the books throughout the story made me so happy. The banter between Lucy and Finn was wonderful, and I loved Finn’s grandparents. I cheered for the main characters as they grew closer together and faced their fears. Overall, if you like Anne of Green Gables, fun banter, complex characters and sweet enemies-to-lovers romance with low spice, then I highly recommend this book.

If you've ever been that bookish gal who thinks that book boyfriends are better, you are in good company. Lucy Rose meets Lucy Maud in this story that has us traveling to Prince Edward Island and none other than the home of Anne of Green Gables. Lucy gets to plan her dream Anne-inspired literary trip as part of a promotion competition for her travel agency, but there is only one problem... she doesn’t travel.

Disasters follow her everywhere, and this time, the one to bail her out is none other than her nemesis, Finn. Pulling her hair, defacing her favorite book, and calling her "Carrots," Finn thought he was wooing junior high Lucy, but Lucy didn't get the message. What Finn sees as an opportunity to try again and spend time together, Lucy sees as the universe working against her. She is happy with her books, and is happy that they won't let her down.

“I’m sure there are plenty of people out there who are happily in love, but the odds of finding the right person at the right time?” I shook my head. “Slim to none. The odds of picking a great book to read about a love story you know will be satisfactory? Much higher.” Finn studied me, then, slowly, he nodded. “Challenge accepted.”

I love how Finn diligently tries to show her how different he has become as an adult. He also corrects some misconceptions of himself as a kid while simultaneously continuing to grow. I enjoy how Karen wrote Lucy and Finn both a little flawed and how they learn about themselves while helping out one another. Finn is his own version of Gilbert, and he can see how the characters themselves were flawed. He reads Anne for Lucy and talks her language, and it isn't even that that wins her over... it's just him.

Written with a perfect first kiss and lots of things to laugh (and cry) about, The Dangers of Daydreaming is an absolute must on your summer TBR!

I received a complimentary copy of the author's story to read and review. All thoughts contained here are my own.
