“I’ll repay that 450 thousand for you…but in exchange, you’re mine.” Due to the debt left behind by his father, alpha Seo Taeyoon is at the mercy of Park Jae-in, a mob boss with a penchant for violence. But when Taeyoon is able to identify Jae-in as an omega by scent alone, the ruthless criminal is taken aback – because nobody should be able to smell his pheromones. Seeing this as his opportunity to regain what once was lost, Jae-in offers to pay off Taeyoon’s father’s loan in exchange for a life of servitude. Now Jae-in holds the key to both the physical and metaphorical locks around Taeyoon’s neck. And so begins their relationship as master and slave...but there's no telling how it will end.
Power dynamics especially in the beginning was sooo bad for me. It is literally the blurb. The Alpha was plucked (kidnapped) from wherever he was because his father with debts died and the Omega literally bought him like a pet to pay off the debts and had him walking around naked with a dog collar. Was only able to gloss over this fact halfway through. Yes I powered through because everyone always recommends this.
I found this story by a BL rec FB page & I'm so glad I did! I'm a sucker for omegaverse stories with dominant omegas, plus there's the mafia/action element to it too which makes it so interesting!
I skipped a lot of tense/action scenes so I am only adding the side story on my read pile as I did spend my 3hrs on it. Hope to read this fully in future!
I hated just about everything from this manhwa. The artstyle, the plot, the characters, the worldbuilding, it's so bad and it's like a a famous wattpad fanfic 😭.
I picked it up cuz it's an omegaverse with a badass (he's not. I'll explain why) bottom with long hair, but it gives me the ick. The plot is so stockholm syndrome coded, and I had to push myself to read the story so I could atleast read about their baby.
There's no chemistry between the ML and MC other than sex, and it doesn't mean that they say they love eachother in the end, suddenly they actually ACT LIKE THEY'RE IN LOVE, having the interactions they should've had since the beginning for it to be a romance.
And Jae-in, the omega, the "badass"? Okay, I get he was an omega who defied societal norms and can fight and is not a weak twink, props for that, but his only motive is cuz he wanted a KID? Very prejudiced bro. It doesn't sit right with me.
The plot is so cliche, the climax is bad, the pacing is weird, and the characters have zero personality, other than Jae-in loves Tae-yoon, wants a baby, hates the villain, is the cold boss, and Tae-yoon is a good Alpha boy, mommy and daddy issues, loves Jae-in.
It's crap. 1 star for it being an omegaverse, and another for having a Alpha that doesn't rape the Omega. The omega instead rapes the Alpha. No, this is not a sign of a dominant bottom, it's rape, call it rape, and it doesn't make the bottom cool. He is no different from all those disgusting Tops.
This was a really unique and interesting story, but I could never get fully invested because the main character is a bad person. He's got a good justification and backstory for his current life as a gangster/pimp, but he's fundamentally an asshole who hurts other people. It makes it hard to root for him. And then his love interest is a bit wooden and 2D. He's got no personality and barely interacts with the plot. He also rolls over way too quickly from "you'll never break me!" to, "eh, guess I'll be your slave. No worries." Of all the characters, the one who really shines is the antagonist. He was excellent!
I think it might have worked if it was shorter, or if the gangster storyline was explained better, but it just felt like the author expected you to suddenly forgive and forget and get invested in their happily ever after without fixing any of the problematic behaviours. There's a lot of violence and non/dub-con that fuels the angst, but it just felt icky.
Overall, I appreciate the premise and the uniqueness of the story, but the elements didn't quite line up for me.
I think if this had a lower average rating I would've rated it higher, but I read the whole thing expecting it to get better only for it to get worse. The MC is propped up as some cool character only to be shown getting beat up all of the time. How useless are his bodyguards? And what's the point of having all of that money if you're intentionally staying in a polluted environment?
I could understand in the beginning because he wanted to make his ex aware of his existence. But afterwards? Why in the everloving fuck did you stick around when you know firsthand what he's capable of? Are you daft??? Not to mention keeping around the mole for literally no reason.
Everyone in this is either a shitty person or has shit for brains. It's such a shame that the ML is such a green flag because he's wasted in this story. It also pisses me off how everyone overlooks the MC's incredibly glaring red flags when he's as terrible of a person as his ex (honestly they're made for each other).
This was my favourite gangster romance from my August manhwa reads, featuring a Recessive Omega who buys ( the debt kind of situation) a Dominant Alpha! While the story was somewhat predictable, that’s exactly what I was looking for since I was going through a tough time and didn't want any added stress, lol. It had some very sad moments, but also funny ones, and I really appreciated the pacing of the story. I definitely recommend it!
If you love the crime world, omegaverse, hurt comfort, and bl romance, then you are at the right place because this manhwa is going to sweep you off your feet.
hmmm this was okay, at first i was like “woah what on earth is happening” it’s really hot but i didn’t feel so much chemistry between the two of them but the baby is so so cute thoooo 🥹
The beginning of the story is a little rough and filled with red flags, but once you dive into it—FANTASTIC. It's a little iffy at times, but overall the uncomfortable moments are worth it to get where we're going. A lot of people tend to dislike certain tropes in manhwas, and I think it's because a lot of people don't like to acknowledge that things like that CAN happen (not that they SHOULD).
Triggers for some? Present. Still one of my favorite because of the artstyle, the story, and the overall arcs.
