I’ve seen this book while scrolling on TikTok, and I was immediately drawn in by the cover. My husband wanted to couple read, and once I heard it was a psychological thriller, I was too excited.

The story starts strong. Kira, escaping a Domestic Violence situation with her ex husband Walter, moves from Florida to Virginia for a fresh start. She builds a real estate business with her new best friend Julie, and then her ex college boyfriend suddenly pops back into her life wanting to rekindle their friendship. From there, things start going crazy.

While the premise grabbed my attention, I felt like this was a predictable story. I seen most of the twist coming, and the final twist, I felt wasn’t needed. However this was still an okay read but I do wish that there was a little more suspense in some of the key moments.

Overall, this was an okay read with a strong start I just needed a little more suspense.

I have mixed feelings about this read. There were things that I really enjoyed, like the suspense during the first few chapters. I literally felt like I was in the house with the FMC.

I immersed read this with both the physical copy and audiobook. The narrator (Sheena Jones) did an amazing job.

I loved the short chapters and the initial intense story building.

But then I felt like I was reading a book I'd already read before. I predicted every twist except the final one. Typically, my predicting the twist wouldn’t affect my overall rating, but I disliked the last twist so much that I ended up deducting a star because of it.

Also, this book was full of the same old tropes that I’m tired of reading.

The FMC who makes dumb decisions repeatedly.

The illiterate police officer, who can’t solve a crime and could not care less about a victim.

Every male character is violent and/or a cheater.

When you have all the evidence but question if what’s occurring is really happening.

It may sound like I hate the book, but that’s not the case. I started out loving it and ended up not loving it so much. I’m sort of stuck in the middle.

A good read

This book kept me turning the pages while asking myself who was the guilty person. I couldn’t trust anyone. It’s a well written story that moved along quickly, suspense oozed out of every page. The ending caught me by surprise. Is there a book 2?

A tense psychological thriller where no one is trustworthy. Bre does an excellent job keeping the tension high, ramping up the danger, and keeping us rooted inside the head and feelings of a woman on the brink of a breakdown. Good twists, well-developed characters.

Recommended!

I love a writer who can write a great first book!

This book was really good. Who can you really trust? Kira used to date Damien in college. The relationship was not great, Damien gave stalker vibes. He would say it’s because he wanted to protect her but he would even start showing up in places she never told him she was. Things went down south when he proposed to her in front of the whole campus and she declined. She just knew she couldn’t marry him.

Then she finds Walter, fall in love and get married. Everything is going great until he accuses Kira of cheating on him with her male bestfriend. No such thing has happened and he keeps mentioning he has proof but she has no idea what he’s talking about. That altercation goes from bad to worse and Walter ends up in jail and divorced.

Kira moves to start her life over then in walks Damien, idk why she wasn’t suspicious, since this is so Damien coded. How the hell does he know where she is? Anyway at the same time she’s getting messages from an unknown number that kinda sounds like Walter. And the timing is perfect because he just got out of jail. She gets really scared when she notices someone is coming into her home, they aren’t stealing but they are making small changes that Kira notices.

She gets no help from the cops, but she needs to figure out who is behind this!

A dark thriller that will keep you uneasy from beginning to end

This one was more of a slow-burn psychological tension ride for me. It’s less about constant action and more about that creeping dread feeling where you start questioning what’s real, what’s safe and who can actually be trusted.

Kira, our FMC, is trying to build a normal life after surviving some really toxic relationships, but when strange things start happening around her, it feels like her past is closing back in. The way the story plays with fear, trauma and control made it feel really heavy in an emotional way and not just a danger way.

The author’s writing style was really easy to follow and written in a way that you could almost see and feel everything playing out, which made the tension hit even harder. I loved how much this leaned into the psychological side of fear and trauma recovery.

If you like darker thrillers with strong emotional weight, mental tension and that constant uneasy feeling, this is a solid pick. Would definitely recommend and read more by this author.

In this book by the end, you can assume everyone hates everyone. Lots of twist and turns. Kira had everyone coming for her. Hopefully she gets an easier life in the future.

Well, that was unhinged as fuck. I also feel like Kira’s therapist lied to her because the growth her therapist talked about, I’m still looking for. I couldn’t put this one down, but it also pissed me off lol.

I just finished Deception by Bre Coleman, and WOW! I am absolutely blown away! This is a lightning-fast read that genuinely keeps you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. The tension is captured from the first page and fast paced chapters, pulling you into Kira's world of paranoia and suspicion immediately.

What I loved most was how incredibly human the story felt. The main character, Kira, is so relatable; she's a survivor trying to piece her life back together after some truly awful relationships, and you feel every bit of her struggle and determination. When the weird stuff starts happening: the creepy messages, the feeling of being watched, you're right there with her, questioning everyone and everything.

The plot twists are absolutely insane and completely surprised me. Just when you think you have it all figured out, Bre Coleman throws another curveball. The suspense builds perfectly, making it impossible to put the book down.

If you like domestic thrillers or are new to the genre, this one is a must-read. It's an intense, gripping ride that you won't regret!

I came across this book by scrolling on TikTok and I seen the authors video and it caught my attention. I’m glad I came across this book because it was such a great read. Definitely can be triggering a bit cause of the topic discussed. I found myself relating a bit to the FMC. I felt as if I was going through it with her while reading. This definitely keeps you thinking throughout and wanting more. From the jump I immediately found everyone in this book guilty lol . The ending left me wanting more like I need this expanded. Reading this gave me the feels of those good old lifetime movies iykyk.

Be careful who you trust! Those words will never mean the same to me again after reading this debut novel.

Kira is working to rebuild her life after her marriage to Walter ends—one parting with divorce, the other with him in prison. Now settled into a new city, a new job, and life with her best friend Julie, she finally feels steady again. But then the messages begin. At first they’re subtle… quiet reminders that the past is never quite finished. Soon, nothing is what it seems, and once the twists start unfolding, all I can say is: buckle up for a wild ride.

Bre Coleman delivers an impressive debut—layered, suspenseful, and full of surprises. I’m already looking forward to reading more from this author.

Rating - 3.5 🌟

I had been seeing this floating around and was excited to dive into a new thriller. If you’re looking for a story with a truly unhinged plot that keeps you questioning what’s really going on, this one definitely delivers on that front.

I ended up listening to the audiobook while also reading the ebook, and the narrator did a great job capturing the heightened emotions during some of the more intense moments. That really helped bring certain scenes to life and kept the pacing moving as the tension built.

I also found myself relating to the FMC in some ways, though I did struggle at times with some of her decisions throughout the story. I know thrillers often require a bit of suspension of disbelief, but there were a few situations where I wished the reactions had felt a little more grounded.

That said, the twists were engaging and definitely kept me second guessing things as the story unfolded. One of the later twists especially had me going “oh!” which I always appreciate in a thriller. I just found myself wishing there had been a bit more buildup leading into some of those reveals so the payoff felt even stronger.

Overall this was a quick and entertaining read or listen. While there were a few moments that didn’t fully land for me, the unpredictability of the story and the twists kept me invested. I will definitely be reading more by this author.

this book instantly reminded me of a fatal attraction episode, men always wants to seek revenge when a female they use to have don’t want to be with them anymore..but this one, it all went down hill when the female main character Kira said ‘no’ at a college game. that’s all i’ll say without spoiling it. this book was fast paced, and the chapters are short. i felt bad for Kira because honestly? nobody should have to go through that—see me? i would’ve called 911 as SOOOONN as i got that first weird message, i was so irritated..the female character was naive which had consequences. even though, how could she know that would’ve happened right? but in all honesty, nobody knows people mindsets nowadays. it’s crazy out here, especially for women. i really had a fun time reading this, as a true crime girly..this book ate. one of my goals for this year was to read an indie author and i did just that! Ms.Bre Coleman thank you for creating this story for us, and i will be reading more books from your catalog.

I read a few comments saying the story was predictable. I agree but I think that is why I loved it. I am a person who loves puzzles and solving mysteries. I am also fairly new to psychological thrillers and this book got me excited to read more of them. This book is definitely a perfect introduction to the psychological thriller genre. I paused several times while reading it attempting to solve the mystery and I was right about who the initial villains were but that last one I didn't predict but it wasn't surprising.

Some opinions I have as a psychological thriller newbie, don't let your characters reveal themselves before the truth comes out. The subtle foreshadowing at the beginning was amazing but what I think threw people off was revealing who it was before the peak of the climax. It lessened the intensity of the climax. The plot and characters were great.

Meh. This is a psychological thriller, and the story follows Kira as she starts over in a new state after leaving an abusive marriage. She’s trying to rebuild her life, but things quickly start to spiral—she feels like she’s being watched, she’s in therapy, and there’s this constant sense that something isn’t right.

Now, I will say…the premise had potential. But for me, it was very predictable. I found myself guessing most of the twists early on, and I was right about almost everything. There was only one thing that caught me off guard.

Overall, it wasn’t a bad read—it just didn’t stand out. If you’re new to thrillers, you might enjoy it more, but if you read this genre a lot, it may feel a little too easy to figure out.

Cover to Cover

I picked up this book because it looked interesting. I saw the author ,Bre, on tiktok promoting the book so I thought I would go ahead and read it. I love thrillers.

What I read wasn't at all what I expected. I devoured this book in about an hour. Every twist was great and the book is written pretty well.

Navigating a divorce and trauma is hard, navigating all of that with a stalker? Impossible.

This is a dramatic page turner. I loved every second of it. I had no idea who to trust and who not to. I hoped for the best for my FMC, and the ending leaves an opening for another book. This was a great story, I loved it!

4.5⭐️. I really enjoyed this book. It kept me interested the whole time and I can relate with Kira because I can be paranoid too sometimes. This book had me second guessing if I was hearing strange noises at my place and it didn’t help that I read it mostly at night. I liked that it was fast paced and the suspense kept me wanting to know more. I did guess one of the plot twists and had a suspicion about another one. But the last twist definitely caught me off guard. Omggg Kira was just going through it and she couldn’t catch a break. But I wish she made a different decision at the end. This story really shows you how far obsession/grudges can go and the craziness it can cause. Also, it shows that you never really know what people are capable of, even the ones you trust. That cliffhanger had me wanting more!! Where is pt.2?
