A propulsive exploration of romantic and platonic love, commitment, shared history, betrayal and personal reckoning.
To celebrate her fortieth birthday, Ophelia and her husband Gianluca gather an unlikely group of eight friends and lovers – some old, some new, some false, some true – for a long weekend in Ibiza. However, the idyllic villa setting may be the only thing holding together a complicated tangle of friendship, love, and betrayal.
Among the guests is Ophelia’s old university flame, Matt, and his new girlfriend, Austen. While Matt finds himself falling in love, Austen is holding back, carefully protecting her heart.
Ophelia knows she loves her husband, but “love” is a word she never learned to say, a silence rooted in a childhood tragedy. What she doesn’t know is that Gianluca has been whispering it to someone else. And when his mistress crashes the party along with her own boyfriend, she brings a revelation that could unravel everything.
Across Rome, Paris and Ibiza, the party guests navigate the tangled paths that bring people together and push them apart, exploring where love begins, where it falters, and the courage it takes to hold on—or to let go.
Will There Be Love? is the sequel to Whitney Cubbison’s debut novel, Will There Be Wine?, however it can be read as a stand-alone.
Whitney Cubbison is a dual American & French citizen living in Paris since 2009. She grew up in Texas and California and graduated from UCLA with a degree in French. She started her career in Communications working for high-tech PR agencies in San Francisco and eventually joined Microsoft where she worked for sixteen years, thirteen of which from the Paris office. During that time, she held various international roles that encompassed public relations, employee communications, executive speechwriting, and social media.
She earned her French citizenship in early 2022 and left Microsoft in the summer of that year to focus on completing her first novel, Will There Be Wine? The story, while fiction, was deeply inspired by Whitney’s own experiences as an ex-pat divorcée living in Paris and trying to navigate the cultural minefield of dating in a foreign country.
She had such fun writing that one that she decided to write a sequel, which became Will There Be Love? Her own search for love is ongoing, so she's hoping this title will manifest someone great for her. A girl can dream...!
Will There Be Love? (which can be read as a stand-alone) was released on April 29, 2025.
When she’s not writing, Whitney can be found sitting in Parisian cafés and restaurants with her friends, drinking wine.
So I didnt read the previous book where 2 of the characters who were in this book were the m ain characters however I felt as though this book could be read as a stand alone.
Its about a British woman whose marriage to her Italian husband ( they live in Italy) is strained, she feels like he is pulling away from her but she feels that he is the love of her life. On her 40th birthday trip, which he plans an unexpected guest ( his mistress) for over a year shows up against his advice and the heroines whole heart is blown to smithereens. She has to reassess her life and decide what's important to her. She eorries about the impact that her husband betrayal will have on her children and how her life will change after a divorce. Especially when another bombshell is revealed during their trip.
This is really angsty, thoughtful story and even though I didnt necessarily agree with the heroines choice at the end, I understood the reasoning behind it.
Definitely recommend that you pick this up if you like angst and drama plus are ok with the cheating plotline.
What a fun beach read! Although this is a sequel, it definitely can be read as a stand-alone. I enjoyed the witty banter between the characters and the gorgeous backdrops of Rome, Paris and Ibiza.
Will There Be Love by Whitney Cubbison. Thanks to the author for the gifted copy ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Ophelia plans a trip to Ibiza for her fortieth birthday with her husband and four other couples. She doesn’t know her husband has been having an affair and the mistress is part of their trip…
If you enjoyed Will There Be Wine, you’ll also like this one. You can certainly read it as a stand along as well. While some of the same characters appear, it’s its own story. I don’t usually love infidelity tropes but the way this one was done didn’t bother me because it didn’t have that glorification and romantic aspect. They were grimy and I don’t think we’re meant to like the characters involved. That said, I loved all the other characters and how they all were well developed individually and how they came together. There is a lot of dialogue in this one so it’s a really fast read. There’s some heavy topics but it never feels like a heavy read. I also enjoyed the European setting to the story as well.
Will There Be Love is the sequel of Will There Be Wine, which I enjoyed. Although this can be read on its own, I do recommend book 1 for a great intro to some of the characters.
Will There Be Love is like taking a vacation to grand places I can only dream about including Ibiza which sounds like a dream. Filled with glorious descriptions of food and drink, I was salivating. It was truly an immersive experience.
Whitney does a great job depicting the messiness of love and this is a pure escapist read, perfect for binging in the summer.
It's both high drama and heart warming, a perfect balance.
There were so many amazing quotes, here is one that stood out "love starts as a feeling and then becomes a choice-to keep showing up for the other person in the way they deserve, even when it's hard."
I also loved the dedication and hope that someone will describe me that way one day "To my mom, who loves loudly."
Ibiza, a stunning villa, and eight friends with more baggage than their suitcases. What could possibly go wrong? This novel is a deep dive into every kind of love. You get romantic, platonic, complicated, and broken. Cheating is part of the story (heads up if that’s a trigger), but Cubbison keeps it raw and unvarnished. No gloss, no excuses. The heartache and fallout felt real in a way that made me stop and sit with it. I didn’t like Gianluca and felt that way until the end and I’m fine with that. I adored the layered friendships, especially the history between Ophelia and Matt. The mix of Rome, Paris, and Ibiza made it all feel cinematic, even as the emotions stayed messy and human. If you like stories that tackle love in all its flawed glory, this one’s for you!
Despite my usual aversion to stories centered on infidelity, I found myself unable to set this book aside—a testament to the author's nuanced handling of a difficult subject. Rather than exploiting marital betrayal for mere drama, this book delves into its aftermath with remarkable emotional depth, weaving the unraveling marriage alongside a parallel narrative of new love taking tentative root.
What makes this dual storyline so refreshing is how it juxtaposes destruction against creation—Ophelia and Gianluca's fractured Roman life against Matt and Austen's careful, wounded hope. The narrative architecture brilliantly connects threads between these contrasting relationships, allowing readers to simultaneously witness the painful dismantling of one bond and the fragile construction of another.
Ophelia's journey particularly resonated with me—her emigration from England to Rome for her husband creates a powerful metaphor about cultural and emotional displacement. Her childhood trauma, manifesting in her inability to vocalize the word "love," adds psychological complexity. The transformation she undergoes isn't just circumstantial—it's a spiritual rebirth fueled by the need to reconcile her familial devotion with newfound self-determination.
The author refuses easy villainization of Gianluca despite his betrayal. Instead, we witness the marriage's complexity in all its messy, contradictory glory. Meanwhile, Matt and Austen's tentative courtship offers moments of unexpected tenderness amid the surrounding emotional devastation—their careful negotiation of past wounds creating some of the book's most emotionally resonant scenes.
What ultimately elevates this novel beyond typical infidelity narratives is its unwavering commitment to emotional honesty. Through Ophelia's eyes, we experience the full spectrum of human response—from searing anger to profound grief to cautious hope—each emotion rendered with such vivid authenticity that you'll feel the weight of impossible choices pressing against your chest long after the final page.
Special thanks to Whitney Cubbison for providing the free ebook for review, though all opinions expressed are entirely my own.
"Will There Be Wine" was one of my favorite novels so when I was asked by the author for an honest review of her new book
"Will There Be Love" I dropped everything and read it immediately. Let me tell you, I was not disappointed. I think I love this story even more, to be honest.
We have several POVs in this one, which only added to the story. Ophelia is our main FMC. She is married to Gianluca and has two kids with him. He's a doctor and she works in marketing. Then we have Austen and Matt. They just started dating and live in Paris. Matt and Ophelia were each others first love but have since had a platonic friendship.
All four characters were extremely interesting for different reasons, and I loved getting to know them. We start our story with Ophelia wanting Gianluca to meet her colleague Kristin, so the three have dinner. When Ophelia leaves early, the remaining guests do things they will live to regret.
I can not say enough about how incredible this story was. The author had us jetsetting from Rome to Paris and then to Ibiza. I honestly felt like the descriptions put me in the location. Everything was so well described. The characters were raw, real, and definitely flawed. Although I loved that ending, I wish it was longer as I miss the characters already.
I read *Will There Be Wine?* and loved it, so I knew I had to read this one!
Ophelia's 40th birthday celebration includes a surprise villa in Ibiza, courtesy of her husband, Gianluca. She invites her closest friends and their significant others. She invites her best friends, Jack and Matt, and also a woman she works with whom she hopes will become a close friend. Matt has recently started dating Austen and finds himself falling in love, but Austen is proceeding cautiously due to past experiences. Ophelia actually has a problem saying the word "love," which stems from a tragic past. But it seems her husband has found someone else who will say it to him. What happens when that someone shows up in Ibiza with shocking news that will unravel their lives?
Told from the POV of Gianluca, Ophelia, Austen, and Matt, this book completely drew me in! I was so captivated by the story that I didn't want to put it down, and I actually ended up reading it in a day! The writing was immersive and kept me thoroughly engaged. And all the drama was highly entertaining. This is definitely one of those books you can escape into. The descriptive writing will take you to Paris, Rome, and Ibiza. I loved seeing Austen and Matt together in this book, and my heart broke for Ophelia. I loved all the characters in this book except for maybe Gianluca! 😂 This was such a great book; I enjoyed it so much and highly recommend it! 🩷
I really enjoyed this author’s previous book, Will There Be Wine, so I was excited to hear she had a new one coming out! Though this is a sequel to that book, it can definitely be read as a standalone! Our FMC, Ophelia, plans a fabulous vacation for her fortieth birthday with her husband and friends. The last thing she is expecting is for her husband’s mistress to crash her party! Told from multiple points of view, “Will There Be Love” examines love and relationships and how complex they can be. I enjoyed the multiple perspectives from our characters and how well developed they were, individually and how they came together. My favorite part of this story though was the setting. Cubbison wrote such vivid descriptions I felt like I could see the beautiful European backdrop. As beautiful as the setting was, the cover on the book itself is also
”Will There be Love” releases April 29, 2025. This review will be shared to my instagram blog (@books_by_the_bottle) shortly :)
For her fortieth birthday, Ophelia's husband sets up a weekend trip to Ibiza. Ophelia is delighted, but what she doesn't know is that her husband is currently having an affair with one of the guests. Will the two be able to hold it together, or will it all come crashing down to ruin Ophelia's weekend, and, consequently, her life?
This had all the drama, and I was here 👏🏼 for 👏🏼 it.
Whitney's novels really get atmospheric, with the descriptions of the drinks, the food, the sights. This made me want to rent a villa in Ibiza - without all the drama, of course!
Told through multiple POVs, one being the FMC from Will There Be Wine?, readers get a first-hand account of the before and after of the weekend trip.
This was pure (impure?) fun from the very first page on. Grab your popcorn, and settle in for a totally binge-worthy read!
Read if you like: 📕 Definitely Better Now by Ava Robinson ✈️ Traveling ✌️ Second-chance romance 👩🏻 40 year old fmc 👥 A big cast of characters!
Review: Will There Be Love? presents a candid exploration of romantic and platonic relationships, some old and some new. This book is full of humor, heart-ache, and romantic drama, but it also, like any good book, contains a cast of characters whose emotional growth makes you think. While this book tackles heavy topics, including infidelity, it makes a great beach read, especially with all of its dreamy European locations! Perfect for the European summer we are all dreaming of😍
It’s obvious that Whitney put her heart and soul into this book, and I think it’s a wonderful companion to her first book, Will There Be Wine?
WILL THERE BE LOVE? is the perfect read to bring to the beach! Trust me — I did bring it to the beach, and it was an absolute delight.
Ophelia arranges a trip to Ibiza for her 40th birthday inviting other couples to join her and her husband, Gianluca. What Ophelia doesn’t know is that her husband is having an affair with one of the invited guests. The party guests navigate relationships, friendship and lovers.
Cubbison’s books give me Sex and the City vibes. This one tackles some serious topics but does it well. I loved most of these characters— the friendships Ophelia has already and the ones she gains are so heartwarming and hopeful. And I loved the Austen and Matt from her last book, WILL THERE BE WINE?, were also at the center of this one. While this book is a standalone, I’m glad I read WTBW first because I already loved Austen & Matt. I’m hoping for another spinoff novel with some of the characters from this novel!😉
This heartfelt story was the perfect blend of romance, traveling, drama, and emotional reflection. This is a character-driven story that also offers enticing settings, taking readers to Ibiza, Rome and Paris. It was well-paced and offers emotional depth as characters reflect the struggles of aging, identity and complicated love. Although this was a follow up to Cubbison’s first story, Will There Be Wine?, it can definitely be read as a stand alone too! Grab a glass of wine and dive in for a fun journey!
This book is not your typical beach read. Instead, it's a layered, emotionally honest story about second chances, broken friendships, and finding clarity in the most unexpected places...like a trip to Ibiza gone totally sideways. If you're looking for something heartfelt and beautifully messy to throw in your beach bag this summer, this one's calling your name!
Thank you @whitneycubbisonwrites for the gifted copy of this book!
Beach bag packed ✔️ Sunglasses on ✔️ A book that takes you straight to Ibiza? Double check.
I tossed Will There Be Love in my beach bag not realizing it’s technically a sequel — but good news, it totally works as a standalone! I’ll admit, I usually shy away from books that open with infidelity front and center, but I’m so glad I stuck with this one because as the story unfolded, the theme shifted and I found myself completely invested in the picture Whitney was painting.
It kicks off with heartbreak and betrayal, sure — but quickly turns into a story about friendship, loyalty, and forgiveness. And since friends are everything to me in real life, this part of the story hit home. Whitney Cubbison did such a great job weaving a story about mistakes, second chances, and the kind of best friends who’ll show up for you no matter what.
Also — can we talk about the setting? Ibiza, birthday parties, beaches, and cocktails with your ride-or-dies? Yes. Freaking. Please. The friendship group gave me all the warm, fuzzy feels and reminded me how important it is to surround yourself with people who love you hard and aren’t afraid to tell you the truth when you need it most.
In the end, this one’s really about self-love, setting boundaries, and learning what real friendship looks like — and it made for the perfect sunny day read. 🌴📚☀️
Thank you to the author for a gifted ebook of this book for review.
Adult literary fiction and romance following a fun and eclectic group of friends on a summer trip to Ibiza. This was a good read. I liked the multiple POVs following the different couples in various stages of their relationships. The author artfully blended new romance, aged relationships, healing, self-growth, and beautiful friendships in this book. The group also had many philosophical conversations that were thoughtful and interestingly ironic.
If you’re looking for your next beach read to escape into, you should definitely pick this one up!
⚠️⚠️⚠️ Trigger/content warnings: cheating, emotional and childhood trauma, mental health, cancer, miscarriage, mention of death of parent and abortion
I knew I was going to have to buckle up for this one! Infidelity takes center stage, and while I normally steer clear of books with that theme, the author did a fantastic job weaving in deeper elements of friendship, forgiveness, and self-discovery. The descriptions of Ibiza, along with all the food and drinks, had me daydreaming nonstop.
Told through multiple POVs (a style I always love), it gave me a full picture of what everyone was thinking and feeling both before and after things went downhill.
I definitely recommend picking this one up with a big bowl of popcorn. The drama is nonstop and absolutely delivers.
This is the story of Ophelia celebrating her 40th birthday in Ibiza with her husband and close friends. The Spanish setting is magical and having been to Spain several times, the imagery was vivid! Even the inclusion of Spanish wine made me want to open a bottle and sip along with the guests while reading! While I enjoyed the friendship interaction, I had a hard time with the cheating spouse aspect. I enjoyed the multiple points of view as each chapter was full of emotion. The author was able to beautifully portray the many layers of commitment and was able to shine a light on true friendship as well as deep remorse.
I absolutely loved “Will There Be Wine?”, so as soon as book two was announced, I knew I needed to read it and it did not disappoint! This time, the book is set in Rome, with trips to Ibiza and Paris. Will There Be Love was a bit heavier with topics infidelity, loss and secrecy. Ophelia is turning forty so her husband plans a trip to Ibiza with some friends. The story follows multiple couples and includes multiple POVs. I found it very easy to follow along and get a good understanding of each character without any confusion (always my fear with so many characters). I loved reading about all different types of characters coming from different parts of the world. I think that’s one reason why I love these books so much. We all want to love Italian men but in this one, Gianluca is the villain. This book had me constantly wanting more and struggling with not being able to read fast enough. I was on the edge of my seat just needing more of the drama. I loved the return of Austen (MC from book one). Also loved that this book included a few chapters in her POV as well. Enjoyed the Shakespeare and Victor Hugo references.
This was a fabulous addition to Will There Be Wine. I absolutely adored the first book and this one was even better. I was honored to be asked to read this book. I really enjoy this authors writing and storytelling abilities throughout both books. What makes a great story for me is having something relatable. I saw myself in a few of these characters and could really feel the emotions they portrayed throughout the story.
Great angst, betray build up, but I needed the ending to be more! It felt brushed over, no real sharing of all the emotions when you try to rebuild. This was so near a five star on the betrayal scale, but the ending felt rushed and glossed over.
Thank you so much to Whitney Cubbison for the opportunity to read and review this book!
Will There Be Love? is a standalone contemporary romance novel and its set in the same world as Will There Be Wine? Ophelia is celebrating her birthday with those she loves the most, including her closest friends and her husband of 11 years. But when she runs into unexpected problems, can she work through all her confusion and conflicted feelings?
This book was an interesting read. Ophelia was a strong character and I enjoyed her growth in this book. I did enjoy the PoVs of the other characters in this story as they all experienced Ophelia’s birthday weekend. This book did cover some heavy topics and I found some of it relatable, but struggled with some of the decisions that the characters made
Overall this was a solid four star read. I enjoyed this story and the world building, even if I struggled with some of the character’s flaws and decisions. This book does have some potential triggers, so please check if you’re sensitive. This book did have some spicy moments in it, so overall two flames for spice
If you’re a fan of contemporary novels with different themes of love, family drama and picturesque European travel, then absolutely pick this one up! Even though this is a companion story to Will There Be Wine? it can be read as a standalone.
I absolutely loved "Will There Be Love?" I received it as an advance review copy and really couldn't put it down, even though I read it on my phone (a first !), which was less than ideal!
The story follows multiple couples and includes various POVs, making it easy to understand and connect with each character. I particularly enjoyed the diverse characters from different parts of the world, which added depth and richness to the narrative.
Gianluca, the Italian character, kept me on the edge of my seat, constantly wanting more of the drama. The return of Austen from the first book "Will there be wine" was a delightful surprise.
The author's writing style is witty and smart, while also being deeply empathetic to the human condition. The dialogue is thoughtful and real, making me feel like I had found true friends in the characters. This book was a very uplifting and enjoyable read, it is fast paced, empathetic but also very funny at times and I strongly recommend it to anyone looking for a romantic, heartwarming, and thoroughly entertaining story about great friendships.
Thank you to the author for a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.
Ophelia is turning 40 and plans a birthday getaway to Ibiza to celebrate. She invites all her closest friends, but it turns out that many guests are keeping secrets. None more than her husband, Gianluca, who has been unfaithful to Ophelia for the past year. Unfortunately for everyone, his mistress also received an invitation to the birthday getaway. Not even the beautiful setting and delicious food can keep the secrets at bay, and only time will tell if this is a weekend where relationships are mended or destroyed.
This book was a lush, food-lover's adventure through Rome, Ibiza, and Paris, with all the drama of an episode of The White Lotus. The book is told in a multi-POV format, so you get many perspectives on the drama and what each character is holding back. I had to keep updating my husband on what was happening--"Guess what CHARACTER said!"--just so I could talk to someone about all the "gasp" moments. This book also has really important messages about forgiveness, marriage, and motherhood. So much of it resonated with me as a married mom. I was really inspired by Ophelia's character and her emotional journey. I highlighted several passages during my reading and will refer to them in the future.

I loved loved loved this book! I read this book in about 2 days because it was that dang good! The writing was good and flowed well. I loved the titles of the chapters so I was able to know which POV I was about to read.
I loved almost all of the characters but Gianluca and Kristen. Once you read the book, you'll understand. However, I loved the growth of Gianluca's character, but the growth in Ophelia was OUTSTANDING. I loved that this book shows that you can always grow and become the person you want to be no matter your age. Matt and Austen were fantastic side characters. Together and separately, I loved watching them grow. I adored Austen's friends and how they treated Ophelia so well on her trip to Paris.
This book had me feeling so many emotions. I felt despair at certain parts of this book and felt lightness, happieness and hope at others. This book was fantastic!! Am I giving you FOMO yet? I hope so!! Just go read the book already!
A charming, multi-layered read with voices that sparkle off the page
Will There Be Love is a delightfully modern tale that manages to be both emotionally engaging and light on its feet. Whitney Cubbison has crafted a narrative that flows seamlessly between different perspectives, giving the reader a fuller, richer view of the characters’ journeys without ever losing clarity or momentum. Each voice is distinct, relatable, and deeply human—bringing authenticity to the story’s emotional core.
One of the most enjoyable aspects of the book is its dialogue: crisp, witty, and refreshingly real. Whether the characters are exchanging heartfelt confessions or moments of dry humor, the conversations feel genuine and alive. It’s rare to find a novel where you can hear the characters speaking in your head—and actually want to eavesdrop on every word.
A perfect choice if you’re looking for a story that balances introspection and optimism, with a structure that keeps things dynamic and engaging throughout. Set in Rome, Paris and Ibiza, the book has a real gift for capturing the many layers of love, hope, and connection in today’s world. Bravo!
Austen and Matt (from Will There Be Wine?) are settling in as a couple, with Austen learning to let go within her relationship and trust in Matt. Will There Be Love? focuses on Matt's friends, Ophelia and Gianluca. Ophelia is putting together a fabulous birthday celebration in an island villa and she unknowingly invites her husband's lover to the event. And the lover's boyfriend... not a recipe for disaster at all.
This book just had you so glad you were not attending that party. Don't expect a ton of action- it relies more on character development as the characters discuss their thoughts on relationships, forgiveness and love. I thought it was interesting even though at a certain point the plot slowed. You were curious what would be decided and why. I think readers will be torn about how they want this to go- I was!
Thank-you so much to author Whitney Cubbison for sending me a free advanced reader copy. My review is unbiased and opinions my own.
Ophelia’s husband plans a birthday trip for her 40th to Ibiza. She picks the guest list….only problem? She accidentally invites his mistress who she BELIEVES is one of her friends. 😳 YUP! You can imagine how that plays out…
What could’ve been pure drama turns into a heartfelt story about friendship, betrayal, self-worth, and figuring out who you are when you’ve spent years putting everyone else first.
I loved the messy emotions, loyal friends, second chances, and the STUNNING European settings (Italy, Spain, Paris ✨). You can feel every place she visits.
Note: I didn’t realize it was a sequel, but it totally works as a standalone!
Final Verdict: 👍 Quick, juicy, emotional, and empowering.
