One Year of Us: A heartwarming, uplifting story of loss and unbeatable love

Rate this book
After her husband Arik dies in a car accident, Yael Levi’s perfect life shatters all around her. Always fiercely independent, Arik’s loss drives her deeper into her work as a tour guide, wishing she could escape the harsh silence of their now-empty home. But as her reality becomes too much to bear, Yael sees no other choice but to get away from it—from everything—even if it’s only for a few days.

As far as Dan Geva is concerned, life is going exactly as he planned, with a career in software and a coveted yearlong training program coming up in Seattle. Then, just as he takes a much-needed vacation, he meets Yael, whose passion for nature and the outdoors mirrors his own. But knowing that neither is ready for anything serious, just as they start to form an unlikely bond, they part ways.

As Dan makes his way to Seattle and Yael returns to her life without Arik, a question—what if they cross paths again in a year?—lingers between them. After all, Dan always saw what was directly in front of him, and for Yael, moving on just seemed impossible.
But once they realize just how precious a genuine connection can be, can two people from different worlds find the strength to overcome their pasts for each other?

A heartwarming drama that explores healing through love...

Drora Schwartz’s One Year of Us is a poignant exploration of love, loss, and the courage to begin anew. Yael, shattered by her husband’s untimely death, burrows into her work as a tour guide, only to find herself unexpectedly drawn to Dan, a man on the brink of a new life in Seattle. Their fleeting connection during a vacation leaves them both pondering the possibility of fate’s intervention. A year later, as their paths may cross again, the novel delicately examines whether two souls from contrasting worlds can bridge their pasts to build a future. Schwartz’s debut is a testament to the resilience of the human heart, blending heartbreak with hope in a narrative that lingers long after the final page. Highly recommended. YAWN!!!!

This book had so much unnecessary minutia, that I turned page after page, and kept seeing the same boring stuff. Finally at 69% thru, I skipped to read the last 4 pages, and saw pretty much the same things. If you want a tour and history of Israel, maybe you'll enjoy it. Otherwise, hard pass.
