The boon allowed life to exist and when it ceased to function, illness, madness and darkness swept the village. Howitz set off to do what his grandfather had done, light the obelisk and restore the boon to working order. It was somewhere out there, in the forbidden, barren lands of the beyond.
Another great short story! It is listed as a science fiction tale but I felt it could also fit in the fantasy and dystopian genres. This story is told in a non-traditional way as the events unfolding are told from a very fragmented point of view, but it works out well. It all wraps up nicely and was a really nice way to spend a small break between tasks.
Another fabulous short. Keeping the end goal in mind ... even when you are clueless and have no clue how to get there or how long it will take. Sacrifice at its best.
