*Book 2 of the psychological thriller series THE ASSISTANT by Winter K. Willis.*In this psychological thriller, a woman with a dark past tries to eke out a humble existence, but her previous life comes looking for her and threatens to destroy her shot at living without secrets and lies. *****
She’s invisible at work. But someone is watching her anyway.
Penny has learned the safest way to survive is to stay unnoticed.
After a troubled past leaves her with nowhere else to go, she takes a late-night custodial job at a sleek Los Angeles office building. The work is clean the floors, empty the trash, and avoid the people who actually matter.
At least, that’s the plan.
But the deeper Penny moves through the building after hours, the more she notices things other people ignore. Tense conversations behind closed doors. Employees who seem desperate to prove themselves. Secrets hiding beneath polished glass offices and corporate smiles.
And Penny knows secrets.
Because someone out there knows hers.
As Penny becomes entangled in the lives of the people who work in the building, from an ambitious employee desperate to rise through the ranks to a security guard who watches everything, she begins to realize the company may be hiding something far darker than workplace drama.
Soon, the quiet custodian everyone overlooks may be the only one who can uncover the truth.
But when you’ve spent your life hiding…
What happens when someone finally sees you?
A gripping psychological suspense novel about secrets, and the dangerous things people will do to protect them.
I've read several offerings by this writing duo and enjoyed all of their books but this one alas, less so. I think that's because there were just too many angles to the story surrounding main character Penny and her skill of cleaning. Nonetheless a worthy read. 3 and a half stars.
This was a tangled thriller I loved it I was twisted to the very end and still there was another twist another surprise to the ending great book on to the next
