“The adventures of the young half-elf Marla continue. When the elven resistance fighters learn that a dragon has been taken captive, Marla and her companions embark on a dangerous journey to seek out the dragon race.
Along the way, Marla herself falls into the clutches of the enemy, where she’s forced to execute a risky plan. Will she manage to free herself while protecting the lives of her friends? And will she prove worthy as one of the last Chosen? Suddenly, everything depends on her.”
Marla is an all ages (14 and up) fantasy read in a medieval setting. The book deals with loss, death, and romantic encounters, but has set no explicit spice and not overly gruesome or gory. It is described as a “cozy fantasy” and “feel-good series” by many readers. The world building is easy to follow and will slowly build up as the series progresses. Suitable for both seasoned fantasy readers and those new to the genre.
I was fortunate enough to receive this ARC from the Author! And am happy to be able to leave my review before it’s released on the 15th!
Marla: The Inheritance is a strong sequel! Marla’s character is starting to develop more into a woman who can think for herself and yet still struggles with her emotions and relationships. It’s very believable with how she is as raised and now is discovering there is more to life than being a counts daughter.
We get dragons! The communication between the dragons and the chosen is very different then what I’m used too, but any time it’s mentioned I feel like I’m right there with them going through the emotions!
There’s a cliffhanger at the end and now I’m worried how long I’m going to have to wait for the next book to find out what happens! I have my suspicions, but am stressing about it so much!! 😭
I really did enjoy this read and am very grateful to have had the opportunity to read this as an ARC!
Simone!!! Rude!! You can’t leave it like that. After everything 😫😫😫
Everyone. If you like heart stopping cliffhangers Simone Wolfe is your author!
But truly I love Marla and her adventures. Book 2 is all about Marla’s growth and DRAGONS!! And I love how unique her experience is with them. She is a CHOSEN, meaning she is one of very very few that has a gift to speak with the dragons. What I love is that she doesn’t just converse with them like in Fourth Wing. But she reads their emotion and energy by the colors they transmit, almost like an aura. But she has to connect with them mentally first. It’s brilliant. And I loved the rescue mission. And poor father… can’t catch a break!
I was lucky enough to be gifted the second book of this series by the author and it didn’t disappoint!
Again we see all the wonderful characters we met in the first book and I enjoyed reading them and their relationship dynamics! However, this was a plot focused book.
The plot had a lot to get through- meeting the dragons being the main one. Again this helped with the world system and the building of the fantasy world which I loved equally as much as last time. I do think in relation to the conflict between elves and humans- this was much more personalised than in the first book because we see Marla getting involved and taking charge for once!
Having said all that, I’m excited for the third book!
Wow wow wow!!! I’m falling in love with this series and the characters! I’m usually not much for fantasy but this series has caught my attention like no other! Can’t wait to read the rest!!
If you haven't read the first one, then this will be spoilers, but you can go to my page and find my review on it from earlier this year. Yay!
Marla is living with the elves. She has also found implications that the elves were once friends with the dragons. Since she can talk to animals, she's sure she can talk to dragons, too. But the elves have lost people in the past striving to do this very same thing and many don't want to risk it. During all of this, a creepy guy from the past gets involved and nearly ruins everything!
There are many emotional ups and downs in this sequel. It's such a fun story though!!!
