Welcome to the world of the Kinraven where angels rule, werewolves hunt, and witches fight to survive.
Bartender and witch Lilith Darke knows she took a risk when she tampered with the mark a werewolf placed on an unsuspecting woman. No one should have noticed what Lilith did, let alone get hurt. But the werewolf involved isn't just any beast, and the woman he marked hides secrets of her own.
While Lilith struggles to make things right, a new danger emerges from the abyss between the worlds. An ancient evil known as the Fehin that threatens magickal Kinraven and ordinary humans alike.
Stopping the mysterious and deadly Fehin will take all of Lilith's strength. Worse, she'll have to cooperate with the shifters she distrusts. If the werewolves don't kill her, succumbing to the sexy distraction of Remy Lemarchal just might.
I received a copy free for review. This was a hard story for me to follow. There was little world building and I didn't get a feel for the characters or their motivations until quite late. Even then the understanding was incomplete. Given the amount of scheming, action, and drama, it would have been helpful to understand why people had certain expectations and what their history was. Also, I didn't get a good feel for any of the characters except that one is a witch with an agenda who is running around as though she's powerful and impervious to werewolves when the narrative states clearly that is not the case. Another woman is confused and unwilling to see the paranormal creatures she's around. The guy she thought she had a connection with turns out to be a whiny brat with no sense. And the big alpha is a arrogant jerk with narrow thinking. There is another character who is from the sea, but abut whom I know next to nothing. Then we have the seraphim, who are apparently disliked, but I have no idea why not. And some mysterious creatures about which we know nothing, yet one character magically figures out how to use one to gain power.
There also were a couple of discontinuities, things like a character having lost her purse with her keys, but they get in the car in the next scene. And several statements about the full moon being 3 days away, but an ultimatum says the full moon is in 2 weeks.
The story might have been interesting, but had too many characters, too many points of view, and not enough background to anchor the action. All I can be certain of is that a werewolf hooked up with a woman and 'marked' her as eligible for werewolf mating. Then a witch got involved for her own reasons and the werewolf got scared. His older brother alpha is out of commission for some unknown reason, so he decides to run off to another alpha without fully considering the ramifications. The action goes from there, but I didn't get the rules of the world and why things happened the way they did.
A book from the Nine by Night Anthology. The story was really good, albeit, a bit difficult to follow in some places. The plot was paced well, and the characters well drawn. I think if I followed more of the series (I believe it's a series) I may have filled in the blanks faster without so many interruptions to my reading- but I will definitely read more from this author, and look into other books in this series.
This was the first in a series and therefore, needed some world building. However, it was not and easy world to understand. There were too many conflicting paranormal clans fighting over one woman who was unaware of what all the forces meant, as was I. It took almost to the end for things to fall into place. Do not think I will read any more by the author in this series.
I was quite intrigued with the synopsis. When O received the ARC I was oh so happy. Although the book was okay, there were more bad points than good ones to consider and so that affected my rating. The protagonist was pretty badass but the other characters were not given as much attention as should have been given. There were a few flaws and grammatical errors here and there. I did like the cover. Just wanted more on the Kinraven. The end was a bit more interesting. Also, there were things which didn’t make sense.
Jumping into the middle of an established series is a little challenging. Lilith is a witch who will do anything to gain freedom from her centuries-old bond to the seraphim. When her machinations drag an innocent woman into the dangerous paranormal world, Lilith must chose between her conscience and her deepest desire.
With the exception of Remy, all the characters are really deplorable (at least from a human perspective). I admire the author for making such a bold choice...yet probably will not read any more of the series.
The prologue to this story was intense and quick paced but I never felt it was totally explained. In fact, I felt this story was a part of a novel or series of novels waiting to be told. I felt more backstory, explanation, character development and relations within the story were missing or needed to be added to make this a complete story. I did feel there was potential for this if more is added and a series is eventually provided. The writing was good…there just needed to be more.
I received this book through a Librarything giveaway for an honest review.

I love the introduction of all the new supernatural characters, but i just felt that for a novella, too much was happening to fast. The storyline was't jumpy but it felt "overstuffed". I fell the author has a much bigger story to tell and should consider turning it into a novel.
I enjoyed the story, it went quite fast and at times it was hard keeping up with who's who. I enjoyed Lilith's character, though I felt the other characters could use some development. I also would have liked more background rather than just 'action'. Otherwise this was a really neat read :)
