Peak Oil

Rate this book
Dark, tense and beautifully written, this novel will appeal to anyone who enjoys international thrillers, law & crime mysteries, romance, Nordic noir, and eco themes.
Gnady Pankov, a powerful Moscow-based oil trader, made a bad bet on the future price of oil using the Russian mafia's money. To avoid his fate, he teams up with Axel Carlsson, a fanatical Swedish bio-environmentalist, to genetically modify a bacteria strain so that it voraciously devours oil. The pair begin using the bacteria to sabotage oil storage depots and refineries in Gothenburg, Sweden and Jacksonville, Florida, creating panic over the world's oil supply.
Pankov's ace-in-the-hole works for a time to spike the price of oil higher and save his skin from the mob, but enter American diplomat Daniel Lake, who is tasked with investigating the affair from his post in Gothenburg. He teams up with Swedish law enforcement and Karin Lofgren, his alluring new love interest, to settle the score in an unputdownable page turner involving blackmail, assassinations, peril at sea, the Russian gulag, corrupt officials, and the gyrating oil markets. Perfect for fans of James Patterson.

📖💥 Loved it! This book is a brilliant page-turner that takes place in various international locations in Sweden and Russia. It follows an environmentalist who targets the oil industry, filled with intrigue and outstanding characters which keeps you on the edge of your seat. It refers to Cyprus where monetary occurrences are shed and an island I once lived on. I thoroughly enjoyed it, especially since it features settings from my current living area (an island) and place I lived in the past (an island). A must-read for those who are enjoy thrillers. No spoilers! 📗
