A great continuation of the series “The Lodestone Series, Eternity Shadow, honors its predecessors by being a worthy sequel. The author uses a blend of characterization and perfectly chosen descriptions to make the world come alive for you, and this is one Whiteway's strengths as an author. As someone who has been with the series from the very beginning, I can tell you that everything that has come before hand has led to this moment, and the plot makes sense, and doesn't seem forced or rushed, which can happen in a book series if it is not properly handled by the author. I look forward to seeing more from Whiteway in the future, as he is one of the most brilliant new minds in Science Fiction today, and he is a talented author gifted with a way with words and a talent for making his vision real to you as the reader.” ===== From the mind of indie sci-fi author Mark Whiteway – who brought you other sci-fi books such as ‘The Arc of the Universe’ – comes the final book of six within the critically acclaimed sci-fi collection, the ‘Lodestone Series’. Mark Whiteway (1959- ) lives in rural West Sussex, England, near the former home of H G Wells. The Lodestone series of novels is built around the concept of negative matter-an extension of Einstein's Theory of General Relativity.
Having read Book 5 of the Lodestone series, I knew I was in for another exciting journey above the stratosphere with Eternity's Shadow, book 6 from the Lodestone Series by Mark Whiteway. We follow Keris who is now the head of the Division for the Maintenance of World Order (quite a mouthful, eh!) as she attempted to locate the Ancient girl. Instead, she came upon a bloody foliage, displaying a recently dead Chandara while her own sharp staff was drawn. Then two other Chandaras eerily came down and suspected her of murdering their own specie. Things got really more intriguing and interesting when another murder was reported, implicating Keris furthermore. And Alex McCann certainly got embroiled again in yet another war at hand. The ending was heartbreakingly epic, I didn't know how to react knowing there's still a lot that's going to happen soon!
Eternity's Shadow is full of surprises, action and heart-pounding scenes. I couldn't help but imagine myself playing Keris while reading the book. The story becomes more interesting in every page. There are deaths, betrayals, deception, forgiveness and surprises. As always, Mark Whiteway's writing is beautiful and powerful. He knows how to pique the interest of the readers to keep them glued to their seats and their eyes fixed on the book. The world and storylines he created makes Eternity's Shadow an even more compelling and must-read.
Very enjoyable, as were the previous books. And another new culture to absorb! Good to see some of the earlier characters return, and the plot contained plenty of surprises.
Keris is in the forest with the hu-man McCann on a mission to find the ancient one Zemira. McCann is not one she wants to be with but he is the only one who like herself knows of the ancient spheres. When a high pitched shriek fills the air Keris does her job to go investigate where she finds one of the calm, peace-loving Chandara dead. Just as she is about to find out why, others arrive to lead her and McCann to the Great Tree of the Chandara where she is accused of murder. Only the link can save her and produce the truth but what will happen to her will she become lost like Zemira? With no other choice there is only one thing to do…
As a follower of this awesome series I couldn’t wait for the next book as each one just gets better and better. I love Whiteway’s writing style that is like no other. The imaginative writing is so crisp, detailed, fast-moving and captivating allowing my mind’s eye to play out each scene as a moving picture. His stories are more than sci-fi and more than adventure mixed with fantasy allowing an escape that one never wants to leave. Great is how each story stands alone but as a series all I can say is wow! Even if you have never read a sci-fi adventure and desire an excellent fiction “Eternity’s Shadow” is sure to please.
I want to be above board and say that I provided a manuscript critique on this book (and others in the series) before it was published, but even so, I really rate this book and would like to share the reasons why.
Science fiction books are not usually my preference, especially when my time is so limited, but seriously, Eternity's Shadow is fantastic. This is the 6th book in the series and it's attention grabbing and convincing right from the very first page.
The story is imaginative, it's clever, it's thorough and it's pure fantasy, but the roots are firmly based in realism, so that the reader can understand the emotions experienced and why a character acts in a certain way. This is a real adventure story, the route is paved with a multitude of obstacles to overcome and, there's an abundance of drama. It's science fiction at its peak. It's believable too. I know how hard it is to bring characters to life but this book introduces new characters with the old and they blend beautifully.
The author-Mark Whiteway has a wonderful way with words, it's beautifully descriptive throughout and yet not overly so, you do feel as if you are in the heart of the story.
I thoroughly enjoyed it and have given it a whopping five stars because I am such a fan. I am hoping that this will not be the last book in the series.
I always enjoy the way Whiteway goes in a different direction than what I was expecting from the previous book. It took me the first part of the book to remember what was going on since I hadn't read the previous installment in a while. There were a few times where I felt like the characters disagreed and were unnecessarily pushing against each other for no other reason than to create conflict in the story, but they never went so far as to do something completely inane because of it so I'm not complaining too much.
