Went about as well as you'd expect. DNF-6% Writing, among other things. Something put teach me from this author on my radar, so I'll see how that goes.
This started off so good but I can’t stand the miscommunication trope! Worst trope ever! Sit down and have one full conversation the next day! Not a week later. So frustrating. Hopefully the rest of the series does not have this trope 🤞
I’ll be honest I didn’t make it 5% into this book. Devin’s monologue was hard for me to read…. He didn’t have the usual strong “masculine” vibe I was looking for. You get a sprinkle of what will be the issues for the plot messily in the first few pages and it just isn’t the way I would have started this book. The first chapter is chopping and scattered. You leave with him swiping on Reign and then jump to them at the bar? Did we forget the playful banter and messages on tinder? Maybe I should have given it more than a 5% chance but I just couldn’t.
After reading Britney’s memoir, I wanted something light and sweet and cute to cleanse my palate. This book just did that. The smut was ✨ The plot was 🙃😞😒🙂 But I only gave two stars because I GOT SO FRUSTRATED WITH THE MISCOMMUNICATION BETWEEN THE CHARACTERS (idk if this counts as spoilers so I’m just gonna mark it as so lol). Like everyone in the fucking book could see the sparks…except the two bozos experiencing the sparks! Lmao.
Anyway…I’m usually a fan of slow burns (ie Lucy Score books) but this one was just not a favorite for me. If yall are into that slow burn miscommunication want to knock the lovebirds upside the head into a relationship theeeeeeen this book is for you.

I liked this book. I’m not huge on mis communication which is a big trope in this book. However, it happened later on, so I wasn’t 100% put off by it. College sports romances all go the way I expect them too. I like to read them for fun and that’s what this book was to me, fun. I’d suggest giving the book a shot. I plan on reading the series.
Aiden proposes a challenge to the football mates at a party to sign up for their college dating app to see who can get the most matches, Devin signs up as Cole and he swipes on a few girls but this one girl named Reign caches his eyes and he swipes on her. Reign is nervous to meet him thinking he’s gonna stand her up or he’s catfishing but as soon as he says her name she is gone for, they have this immediate sexual tension and it gets hot in the booth sitting next to each other; they play true or dare they kiss once and have a few drinks then they go back to Reigns place with her roommates there (she’s moving out) and they have sex five times at night🤭. There’s a time where it’s miscommunication and they soon work through it. I love Devin and Reign🌹 I’m obsessed with how he proposed to her at the new football stadium and he was so nervous it was very cute. Ana Shay has done it again!
Ana Shay’s writing is amazing!!! Not only is it fun and heartwarming, she hits you right in the feels!
💖Friends to Lovers 🏈Football Romance 💖Forced Proximity 🏈Found Family 💖Fun Pranks
I have been having a blast making my way through Ana’s awesome books! Each book is unique and fun, and will make you swoon soooo hard!
I loved the characters in the book. Not realizing this was book one, I read the series out of order, knowing some of the characters already, but it was sooo fun to revisit them and learn more about them.
Devin and Reign’s story was soooo heartfelt. These two were broken and needed each other to heal them, but had no idea they would do that for each other. Devin gets the feeling Reign just wants to be friends after their one night hookup, so he does just that. He is soooo swoony and cares for her! And Reign barely having anyone just wants friends!
This book was soooo good! This series is amazing. I can’t wait to dive into the next book!
I just don’t know. I finished it but it was a struggle because there were times I almost DNF.
h’s two roommates I did not like. I also didn’t like most of the guys that lived next door/were on the football team. Especially the ringleader, Aiden. I kept thinking over and over “grow up” with all the dumb pranks. So basically there’s not much about the side characters that make me want to finish the series.
I chuckled at the plotline that the 2 girl roommates had trouble finding another girl to rent that room because it’s right up against the football team’s house. 😂😂
The MCs were alright. I didn’t like the fact that h was stringing that one guy along.
The miscommunication plots were heavy in this book. For example h sees H hugging a girl in his room. It causes so much drama when h could have just asked him about it. Then she would have found out it was his sister. 🤪
Okay I love when the couple falls In love the ways these two did. I even do not mind when communication or lack there of is the reason it all crashes down. However the amount of no communication that happened between two adults pushed me out of the story a lot. She never said no to the other guy until he figured it all out on his own. He never told his friend to back off. It just didn’t set right for the relationship I knew the could have. There were also some plot holes or changes that did not get fixed that threw me. I typically can ignore them but my head had a hard time following parts. Overall I loved D and R I just wish their story of falling in love was more fit for the characters they were written as.
Let me just save you some time: the ENTIRE book from the first chapter is the miscommunication trope.
That being said. I really enjoyed this read. Reign was so relatable with her embarrassment all the time, and Devin was the perfect amount of brooding and softie.
The miscommunication in every chapter can get frustrating and I found myself giving a few chapters a hate read just to get through it.
The side characters were not really likable. Lyss and Aiden seem awful, I will not be reading their story. And Lyss and Laura were not good friends or even good people throughout this book. What a pity.
Overall it's a fun read, with special mention going out to Adam who deserves the world.
I like finding new authors and new releases on Kindle Unlimited and I came across this fun read.
Devin and Reign meet on a Tinder dating app and agree to do a one night stand. Reign’s living situation changes and you wouldn’t believe who’s her neighbor!
Devon is such a sweet soul, hunk of a man that his character involved and with Reign. The side characters/other roomies that are were an absolute blast to read and laughable. There was foreshadowing with the other characters that made me want to read there story if Ana Shay does write them!
This was a cute book, but it needed more editing. There were a lot of grammatical errors. There was also a lot of nothing. I kept waiting for the turmoil or big reveal or something, but it never happened. This is just one big miscommunication trope. I kept for the big bad dark past, but it never came. I liked both MCs. I liked the base of the story and the authors writing style. I just felt like it needed to be cleaned and tightened up. *This book is rated R. The F word is used more than once. There is no violence. The spice scenes are explicitly detailed.
It started off good, great even; I like the plot then I saw my first typo. Ok whatever I can look over it… I kept on reading and the inconsistency and again the typos it’s as if it wasn’t edited?
Whatever happed to the back and forth texting à la tinder before the meet? The back stories are kinda vague, I’d wish the author would’ve given us at least a chapter explaining the transition of their character?
Reign could have been more opened with Devin in everything as well as Devin like the misunderstanding trope is a hit or miss and unfortunately for this book it was a miss…

From their truth or dare meet-cute to the Romeo & Juliette moments on their balconies, I loved every minute of Reign and Devin
There were also some really deep aspects of this story that resonated with me like Reign grieving the loss of her parents and Devin making sacrifices for/because of how much he loved his family 🥹
Was the miscommunication frustrating as hell? Yes! But not as frustrating as Ana leaving me on that spicy cliffhanger and not knowing what Devin got for being a first-round draft pick 🥵😤
I loved Devin & Reign’s story. Devin is a football player who is entering the nfl draft in a few months and needs to make it to be able to take care of his mother and struggling sister. Reign just moved back to California after some family and ex bf issues. Neither are looking for a relationship but when Devin comes across Reign on a dating app he is instantly intrigued. Reign just wants a one time thing we all have needs! I will say the ONLY reason this book isn’t getting 5 stars is because there is a lot of miscommunication between the characters. While it didn’t bother me most of the time and it made sense to the plot, towards the end I was screaming at these two to just talk to each other. I still love this book and would 100% read it again I can’t wait to continue with the series.
I thought this was a really fun read. I loved the interaction between the two main characters, Reign and Devin, when they meet face to face for the first time. When they later become friends and eventually more, I was hooked. The secondary characters added to my enjoyment of the book. It was so easy to get caught up in the story and I read it in one sitting, this way my first Ana Shay book and I will be reading more.
It felt forced. The story was great. But the continuity errors were confusing. The writing could have flowed better, but I was willing to overlook that. It dragged on, and the conflict was just annoying. Miscommunication tropes are never my cup of tea, but this one was even more annoying cuz neither MC even bothered to fix it until the end. And I HATED Aidan. He was so casually cruel to everyone around him and he came off like a true narcissist
The story got better as it went on, could have been shorter or more plot-dense. It felt cringy at times, but overall it was still sweet. Normally I don't like the miscommunication trope, because it is so easy to do it badly...here, however the reasoning behind the miscommunication was fitting, so I did not mind this story arc. I will read the next book eventually, in hopes of the writing style getting even better as the stories continue.
Super cute college romance. Doesn't focus a ton on the football aspect. Devin manages to get himself in and out of hot water by being either oblivious or obtuse, but overall he's a sweetheart and finds his way. Reign is so skiddish and sad, but she really does have a good heart. There's a bunch of misunderstandings, but they're the typical dumb things folks in their 20's say/do so I don't mind it. There's also an embarrassing moment that really makes you feel for the main characters.
Well, if you want tears and laughter, this is the book for you. Devin and Reign are the couple for you. Both have had a past with trauma and loss, but loss of different kinds. The journey following Devin and Reign had me hooked chapter to chapter. I read this book in less than 24 hours. Both were looking for that missing piece in their lives. This is the first book I've read by Ana Shay, but I'm hooked fully in her writing. 100% recommended read!
I've been a huge fan of Ana since I read The Mascot. So, of course I had to go back to the beginning and read Ana's debut novel, Swipe Me. And it's comforting to know that Ana has been writing books that induce anxiety since the beginning 😂
I really enjoyed this book. Yes, it was a bit frustrating at times but it was supposed to be like that. Reign and Devin's entire relationship is based on the ONS they had and not knowing where they stand, especially as they become friends. So, it only makes sense that there's a bit of awkwardness and slight miscommunication between them. They are college students trying to navigate their way as young adults, and honestly, I probably would've reacted the same way at that age 😅. Didn't stop me from wanting to reach into the book and bash their heads together for not figuring things out sooner though !
In the end, I thought this was executed quite well. It was funny, emotional and there was so much tension between Devin and Reign. It was a great introduction into The Covey U universe and I can't wait to read the next one.
🌶🌶
-college football -ONS -friends with benefits -neighbours -found family -he falls first and harder -prank wars
Reign and Devin one night stand turns friends turns true love. Devin has a heavy weight with family problems and going to the NFL draft. Reign lost both her parents in high school. Her family that took her in never showed her true love. These two Collide into a beautiful friendship then into a great relationship.
Only reason I didn't do 5 stars is for the mistakes. For instance there's one point where it says she sees him in sweatpants and a t-shirt. Next chapter, same timeframe, he's in a towel and needs to get dressed... Then later in that same chapter, he goes to get changed and he's wearing jeans....? Other than little things like that I liked the story.
What a lovely story! The characters were believable. Something that makes reading and becoming absorbed into a storyline that much easier. The author's words flowed easily too, also making for an enjoyable experience. Looking forward to reading the next in the series!
im sorry?? I literally didn't care about these characters or anything n why was the main girl acting like she's 13... UR A FULL GROWN WOMAN WHAT THE FUCK. some of the lines in this book? ick. plus why was she fine to string that guy along when she'd literally been cheated on herself? removed one star for that Taylor swift thing because that was not needed
Not my favorite "sports romance." I think the cover is misleading. Guy carrying a football? There is not one football game in this book. No FMC cheering on the sidelines, rooting her guy on. No game talk in the locker room, no guys practicing together on the field. Was hard to connect with the characters.
I did mostly enjoy this read, however the miscommunication (or truely no communication) was too heavily leaned on for me, and the inner monologues for both our MMC & FMC basically just repeated over and over again. I liked most of the prank war until the last one, plus with what happened after I can see why her roomates lost so many friends.
