Marc Guggenheim grew up on Long Island, New York, and earned his law degree from Boston University. After over four years in practice, he left law to pursue a career in television.

Today, Guggenheim is an Emmy Award–winning writer who writes for multiple mediums including television, film, video games, comic books, and new media. His work includes projects for such popular franchises as Percy Jackson, Star Wars, Call of Duty, Star Trek, and Planet of the Apes.

His next book, In Any Lifetime, coming from Lake Union Publishing on August 1st.

Guggenheim currently lives in Encino, California, with his wife, two daughters, and a handful of pets.

Brand New Day continues in Volume 2 and...it's kind of the same as first. Goods and bads, ups and downs, but nothing downright HORRIBLE. And that's nice.

Highlights would be -

Menace. She turned out to be a really fun story arc. The "Surprise" wasn't hard to see coming but how wicked she became, why she became who she is, and also the similar feel to Harry made it all the more messed up. This was a great fun arc.

I also really dug Spidy vs Osborn. Him going ham on Osborn was excellent. But even more so Harry's growth during this arc is excellent. Nothing like seeing Spider-Man trying not to kill Osborn after all the crazy shit he's done.

The fantastic four issues were fun, as was the stuff with Ben and Kaine returning, as someone who is reading clone saga now that was a fun little arc. Also May getting married was pretty cute.

But the things that felt just okay -

Return of black cat was okay, the stuff with MJ feels off sadly, and the hot roommate that moves in, hooks up with Peter, then fights with him gets old quick.

So yeah Brand New Day is pretty solid at establish new threats, and giving Harry Osborn some much needed development. But it fails to keep Peter's love life very interesting, and those arcs that focus on that are the weakest.


A 3.5 out of 5. I feel inclined to give it a 3 cause it didn't impress me as much as I hoped.

This is still good, but it's not great. Peter's characterization is still pretty solid. The downfall of writing a series so frequently with a team is that it feels like we go huge amounts of time without addressing the major plot threads of the previous arcs. Things I wanted to follow up on from the first volume just kind of fade away. Dexter Bennett is an afterthought now. Menace arc resolves satisfactorily, but then basically disappears. I really dislike all things Jackpot, a character who they could have just called Red Herring and been done with it. This run shines in its use of Peter's surrounding cast. Harry, MJ, Aunt May, Carly, Vin, Pete's roommate, etc. but those characterizations suffer from too many cooks. They run hot and cold and change on a dime and you never know what to expect. Not sure if I'll track down vol. 3 omni or not.

What a fun wild ride. While the revolving cast of writers and artists is a bit much at times, there are some great stories in here to keep you going. And of course, all the fun stuff with Peter’s mess of a personal life shines through in this
