The Stitching Success series is for makers ready to take the next step in their craft. You've made a few scarves, maybe a hat, but you want to make more. These books walk you step by step through the process of going beyond the basics, with authors who feel like your new best fiber friend. By the end of the book, you'll be able to confidently make garments and accessories you love! Also available from the series: Sock Knitting Success.
I had high hopes for this but found the patterns, although fairly classic (boring) in silhouette, a touch off in the minor details. I found the Ivy League Vest (p. 102) just too oversized, the Afternoon Tea Cardi (p. 110) hem too uneven, the Simple Stockinette Raglan (p. 86) too rumpled. Maybe it's all a matter of not great finishing/blocking? Also, there are drawings of the garments but not what I'd consider a real schematic that shows how pieces are connected and the direction of knitting. I'm a good knitter so I only skimmed through the techniques and cannot really speak to that part of the book. Photos are plentiful.
This book is great if you are a true beginner or just have never knitted a garment before. I could imagine that this book answers so many questions and solves lots of problems that the knitter may not even know they could have. I am a more advanced knitter so I didn’t find this book that useful to me. As an advanced knitter I would have liked more information in the yarn subbing chapter because this is my biggest problem. I think Chantal 100% delivered on her brief of writing a book for a beginner knitter! And I love that she’s Calgarian!!
