The Unchained #2

Never Bound

Rate this book
773496S6

In an alternate 2025 where anyone poor or unlucky can be enslaved, Louisa, the daughter of the enemy who owns me, was forbidden from touching or even looking at me. She had no name to call me, since I only had a number. But when we were forced to share space, I opened her eyes to the horror of her world, and there’s no going back.

When I first charmed my way into her bed, however, it wasn’t because I wanted her. It was because I wanted something from her. Now? I do want her. Forever. But I'm here on a dangerous secret mission and now new enemies lurk, threatening to expose us. And in this snake pit, neither of us knows who to trust.

But then they go after her.

And if I have to burn the world down, I'll prove that even though I may be a slave, she belongs to me in every way that matters.

NEVER BOUND, book 2 in the dark dystopian forbidden romance series THE UNCHAINED, picks up where NEVER BROKEN left off. The books must be read in order. NEVER BOUND ends on a hard cliffhanger and picks up in NEVER LOST, coming in summer 2025. Together, all three books form a complete arc with a guaranteed happily ever after.

Everly Claire is living the dream as a full-time writer with her partner and two cats on a palm-fringed, white-sand beach on a Caribbean island (really, you should try it!) When she’s not writing, she spends her time on a boat or on a beach (always with a fruity cocktail in hand), getting nerdy (and winning big!) at trivia night, and/or dreaming up more hot scenarios and dark twists involving protective, wounded, clever boys with a bad habit of getting chained up — the ones you aren’t allowed to touch but that we all know you will, anyway.

The best part of this book was the last 15% imo. The beginning, for two people who reaaallyyy are not supposed to be together, they do a horrible job of being secretive. Literally everyone knows. And I’m not sure if it’s the writing or what, but their romance just isn’t doing it for me. Like I don’t believe it. And Louisa is so naive. I know she grew up spoiled and brainwashed, but she just does not get it. I will say, Corey got what he deserved though and I hope he stays away. I absolutely am curious about what’s going to happen next - for sure, the best part of the book for me is the dystopian setting and the sinister big plot going on in 5e background. But the romance is not doing it for me, and it takes up a majority of this book. I’m not one to shy away from open door romance, but when I read “our boy and girl parts rubbed together” I skipped the 2 chapters of spiciness. It reads very YA, but it doesn’t want to be YA (and tbh I would prob like it being YA).

ANYWAYS I will absolutely read book 3 to see where the cliffhanger ending takes us.

Thank you to the author for an eARC

Review 4.5 stars! 😍 I loved Never Broken so much it was one of my favorite read this year so I was eager to dig in to the sequel specially after that cliffhanger 😱

I had been waiting for that slowburn to finally BURN 🔥 and o boy does this sequel turn up the spice level 😏 Golden Boy and Lou cannot keeps their hands off each other even though it puts their lives at risk. I was literally biting my nails dreading that moment they would be caught 🫣 this tension combined with the mystery behind his sister & her fathers involvement kept me turning pages! The chilling dystopian setting and the constant harsh life of the slaves raise the stakes even more!

3.5 stars. This second instalment had a bit of repetition and was predictable, but still interesting, as we follow Lou and ‘Him’ (number) struggling to forge a real relationship amidst the rules and regulations of their slave-driven society. It’s still unclear what exactly certain side characters are doing and their motivations, which keeps the intrigue alive. Now on to book three…

"Society not allowing me to touch her was bad enough. Her not allowing me to touch her was an infinitely more painful kind of torture."

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I'm still so upset I don't have a name to call this man.
I love him.

"If I could only give you one thing in this life, it would be to give you the chance to see yourself the way I see you. Now and always."

I had a great time reading this, and it was everything I was hoping to get out of the second instalment to this series.
I loved seeing Louisa's confidence grow on every page, while also learning more about herself and her emotions and feelings.
That's not even to mention Him and the growth we see from him.
Exploring the idea that he is more than a slave - he's a man who deserves to love and be loved.

I think this is such an interesting take on a dystopian world, and I love that it's set in 2025. We can really see the juxtaposition between our present world, and the universe that Everly has created; which I think makes it so much easier to understand just how obscene New North America is.

Thank you, Everly, and Torchlit Ink, for the opportunity to read this eARC!

Thank you Everly Claire & Torch Lit Ink for making me one of your ARC readers ❤️‍🩹

I was very pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed this second book in the series! The writing and story-telling has evolved quite a bit from the first one and I’m excited to find out what happens in book 3 this summer!

I love how much more detailed and deep the storyline was in this second instalment 🥺 Seeing the relationship between the MCs blossom more realistically (however anxiety inducing it might have been because of the constant fear of discovery 🥲), witnessing the inner workings of the change in mindset and growing understanding in Louisa, and being sucked into the gripping plot has made me want to pick up the next book as soon as it comes out !

I love the addition of all the secondary characters whether unexpected friends or foes and I’m anxious to read what will happen next…

Lastly the plot twists and that cliffhanger ending left me genuinely shell shocked 😳

Never Bound

Omg so good!! I’d rate it higher if I could!! This series has had my heart in a twist from the start! I love it!!

Picking up where the last book left off this one is just as thrilling and heart racing as the previous one! There were a lot of ups and downs emotionally that had me unable to physically put this book down. These characters have captured my heart and I can’t wait to see more from them.

I also enjoyed the growth and journey that the characters went through on this one as well!

There were a lot of twists along the way as well and I’m so eager to get my hands on the next book to see what happens next!!

Tropes in here were; forbidden romance, dark dystopian world, touch her and xx vibes, who did this to you?, captivity, morally grey characters, nothing is as it seems, angst, hurt/comfort, wound tending, mystery, learning to trust, sweet moments, self worth and so much more!

Adult dystopian is so rare and it's one of my favorite genres. I'm glad I found this series. They are quick and entertaining and raise some questions about the world. Will definitely finish the trilogy.

My boy deserves happiness!

Never Bound is one of those cases where the book brings me both joy and pain and therefore I love it. I don’t think I’ve ever wanted to protect characters this fiercely, and it’s probably due to the brutal reality of this book and the preciousness of the characters. To say I’m rooting for a happy ending is an understatement.

This is the second book in the Unchained series. I read the first book, Never Broken, earlier this year and it immediately became a new favorite. Well, its sequel is just as good! The story is set in a dark, dystopian version of our world where anyone poor and unlucky can be ensl@ved. The main characters are a morally gray, incredibly intelligent nameless young man and the daughter of his new master, Louisa. Their attraction is reckless, their love forbidden. If they’re discovered, it’s the end for them both. But fighting their feelings for one another gets progressively harder, as is hiding their secret.

This is forbidden romance at its finest, and while the world in which the book is set and the circumstances are dark, the romance is actually quite sweet. In this second book, things get steamier than the first, but with the more time Louisa and our boy spend together, the more dangerous it becomes for them. The stakes are higher than ever when discovery could lead to ruin and a horrendous fate. I spent the book alternating between happiness and a sense of dread. I was waiting for the shoe to drop the entire time! The overall tension was just as good as the romantic tension. I should have recorded myself as I was reading so you could have seen the full range of my emotions as I went from being immensely happy to scared af in the span of a few chapters.

Here are some tropes!
❤️‍🔥 forbidden love
❤️‍🔥 slow burn
🌎 dark, dystopian world
🌚 morally gray mastermind MMC
✨ rich girl x ensl4ved genius
🔥 forced proximity
💔 who did this to you? (Her to him!)
☠️ touch her and…
⚡️ rebellion, secrets, and unhinged banter

Thank you to the author for gifting me an eARC. Opinions are my own.

Louisa and the boy continue to try to solve the mystery of what's happened to his sister, as well as deal with falling for each other in a world where even a single touch can destroy them.

*****

I really wanted to like this novel but I think this entire series just isn't it for me. This book was so incredibly stressful that I kept having to force myself to pick it up and read it. The first half was Louisa and the boy constantly putting themselves in situations to be sexually intimate at a high risk of being caught. It happened over and over again and made those scenes completely unenjoyable because I was constantly waiting for the other shoe to drop. They both kept making choices that put themselves at risk, to the point they were so incredibly obvious to everyone around them that I couldn't fathom why they weren't just tossed to the mines.

About 70% of the novel is mostly just relationship building and inner monologues with the slowest of slow pacing. From there we finally get a few interesting developments come about and start to meet characters and perspectives that can actually impact the story, and then it ends on a cliffhanger. I was left so dissatisfied, stressed and frustrated that I couldn't see myself wanting to live through these feelings through another novel.

Despite this, I can see why others would enjoy it, but I'm tapping out here.

*****

Thank you to the author for the digital ARC. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Thank you Everly Claire and Torch lit Ink for the e-ARC

"Never Bound," the second installment in Everly Claire's "Unchained" series, proves to be even more captivating than its predecessor. Having enjoyed the first book, "Never Broken," I found "Never Bound" to be a truly satisfying continuation, filling in many of the gaps and answering questions that lingered after book one. Crucially, the story picks up exactly where "Never Broken" left off, making it vital to read the first book to fully understand the events and character arcs in "Never Bound."

One of the elements I was most curious about was the burgeoning relationship between Louisa and 773496S6 (the nameless love interest). The author explores the complexities of their connection, keeping you invested in whether and how their unique bond would blossom amidst the surrounding turmoil.

From the middle of the book to the end had me completely on edge! Just when I thought I had a handle on what might happen next, Claire threw in another twist. It felt like Louisa and 773496S6 were constantly facing new challenges, each turn revealing more about who they could trust and who was working against them. This constant unveiling of allies and enemies kept the narrative incredibly engaging.

"Never Bound" is a fast-paced read that held my attention from beginning to end. And just when you think you can finally take a breath, Claire delivers a cliffhanger that leaves you desperate for the next book in the "Unchained" series.

Get ready to be swept away by the second installment in The Unchained Series, a pulse-pounding tale of forbidden love, rebellion, and the unbreakable bonds that form between two souls in a world where slavery reigns supreme.

The story follows a slave whose life has been a never-ending cycle of pain, suffering, and heartbreak. His existence is a bleak and desolate landscape, devoid of hope and filled with the cruel whims of his masters. But when he meets Louisa, the daughter of his new master, something sparks within him.

As their forbidden romance blossoms, the stakes are raised, and the tension becomes almost unbearable. Louisa begins to see the world through new eyes and challenge the very foundations of her privileged upbringing. The walls that once separated them begin to crumble, and their love becomes stronger.

With its blend of forbidden romance and dystopian intrigue, this book will leave you on the edge of your seat. And be warned - this story ends in a cliffhanger, so be prepared.

ARC REVIEW (minor spoilers)
5/5⭐️ 3/5🌶️
Okay so I have been impatiently waiting for this since beginning of January. I was so excited to read it (also was excited for the increased spice level. If you are looking for a dark, dystopian romance this is the way to go.

First of all, the cliffhanger (respectfully) made me want to throw something because now I gotta wait until the summer. I have so many questions. Is Max actually evil? Is Resi? Will the boy actually give Max a name to use (personally I think he should use Superman but maybe that’s just me)

I know this review isn’t really in depth but it was just so good. Just like the first book I could not put it down and the only reason I didn’t read it in one sitting is because I started at like 9 pm and fell asleep.

This is book 2 in the Unchained series by Everly Claire and OMG the story just keeps getting better and better. This book picks up right where we left off in book one, but I think it has more action and is much faster paced, especially now that we know the world.

The ending though….it’s such a cliff hanger! And then we got a sneak peek into chapter one of book 3 and the twists and turns this book already took, I know that there is going to be so many more!

Louisa is coming into her own throughout this book and I am here for it. She went from I kind of feel this way to taking it on 100% with no regrets. With the way that this book ended, I can’t wait for this summer when book 3 comes out!

Arc Review
Thank you to the author for the Arc copy in exchange for an honest review.

Book 2 picks up right where the first one left off. The MMC is still on his mission and the FMC is there every step of the way. I do like their chemistry and I think the storyline is great but this book just was not for me. I had trouble picking it up and had to force myself to read it sometimes. I think the story was kind of jumbled at times, and I found myself getting lost. It definitely had moments where I was super invested but at the same time some parts lost me. Overall I did enjoy the story and the world and am curious to find out what happens next.

I had the pleasure again to read this book as part of the arc team. Book one leaves you in a crazy cliff hanger and book 2 picks up so smoothly and next thing you know, you are back in the world with Louisa and him. I really enjoy book 2 as the tension seemed to be heavier, the suspense of the plot and the characters and the sweetness Everly was able to carry throughout the whole story. Be prepared to be left in a crazy cliff hanger than book 1, that it’ll leave your mind wondering what is going to happen next. I’m excited for book 3 and definitely recommend reading!

[ARC REVIEW]

We’re back again with

⚡ forbidden love
⚡ forced proximity
⚡ touch her and 💀
⚡ dark dystopian vibes
⚡ morally gray mastermind
⚡ rich girl x ensl@ved genius
⚡ rebellion, secrets, and unhinged banter

Let me just say this second book doesn’t hold anything back. It picks right up from where Never Broken left off (and if it’s been a hot minute and you can’t remember, [author] was so kind as to include a recap (can we get more authors to do that?)). We’re still following [REDACTED] and Lousia as they navigate their secret relationship, while also preparing Louisa for her upcoming exams. There’s a lot of fun banter between the two of them while “studying.” This time there’s a sharper edge to things while they try to also balance [REDACTED]’s unwavering search for his sister, and now that other parties have started to take notice of him, it’s becoming more and more messy.

Y’all let me tell you the way this series is hitting me with all these twists and turns, I’m about to get whiplash. But let’s be real here, I wouldn’t want it any other way. The cliffhanger ending???? The epilogue?????? LIKE????? You best believe I will be sat for book 3.

Thank you so much to Everly Claire for the opportunity to ARC read again (!!!!!) for you. The Unchained series is quickly becoming a favorite.

it's like Christmas came early. I started my day by seeing this ARC in my inbox and couldn't wait. I binged it in one day.

while I was definitely praying this was a duet so I could get a conclusion, the fact this story continues is not a disappointment.

the conversations about ethics and slavery and privilege were as captivating as the tension and suspension of their forbidden affair.

Ugh the third book can't come fast enough.

What the HECK, Everly?!?! ANOTHER CLIFFHANGER?!?!

Ugh. Okay I was like really really hooked the last 100 or so pages and then you just… ended it. COME ON!!

Anyway. Loved it. I’m glad Nameless gets to experience some of the finer things in life (at least for now).

And Maeve?!?! How could you just end it there?!?! I won’t get over it clearly lol.

How long until the next? I need it right meow!

Absolutely unbound from sleep, sanity, and social plans.

I opened Never Bound thinking I’d read “just one chapter” before bed. Classic rookie mistake. Next thing I know, it’s 3 a.m., I’m emotionally attached to fictional characters, and my cat is judging me for crying over plot twists she’ll never understand.

I now its 1am and I have to read the ARC for Never Lost and I need a support group, and probably a nap. 10/10 would sell my soul to read it again for the first time.

To be fair I actually want to give this book a 3.5 stars in the rating. I am new this author and was selected to ARC read this after reading the first of course. This is definitely a series you need to read in order. It does pick up right where the first left off. It is a little “better” than the first book but something about it I just am not into so I found myself having a hard time wanting to read it. I think it is the setting of the book: thus giving it a 3.5 stars. Don’t get me wrong it is still a good book as I kept reading. And eventually finished. And again was left with a cliffhanger type ending. The spice level picked up in the book too. And it started like from the get go. Definitely read the trigger warnings before you go into the book to as well.

4.5 stars! She does it again! High stakes, fast paced, and lots of character growth that amounts to a fabulous read. And nowwwwww I need book 3! Be prepared to tear up and be filled with so much emotion—especially for the MMC. My heart was breaking for him. He’s seriously such a beautifully written character. I also can’t get over how seamless Everly Claire’s writing is. It’s smooth like velvet. I also love how unique this story is. And it keeps being unique with so many questions that continue to leave me wanting more and more!! Fabulous job!
