The more I teach from this textbook, the more I like it. The voice is genuine, and the exercises actually help with the real-life problems I find in my students' writing.
Unlike many experts, who focused on their fields because their subjects came easily to them, Ballenger shares that he struggled with writing as a student. He knows what struggling writers feel, the shortcuts they try to take, and generally helps them through the rough spots.

Very much of the expressivist ilk. Nothing wrong with that, but I thought it was weak on other aspects of composition--mainly argumentation.
