The highly anticipated second collection of poetry by Lucas Jones.
'The Camera Loves You, Baby' is the follow up book to Lucas Jones' debut release '(Sorry I Was Miles Away) In the Year of Romance'. This collection is the result of over 50 million social media views and over 350,000 fans connecting with Lucas' work in the first year alone since the initial release of his work.
Featuring viral hits such as 'I will teach my boys to be dangerous men', 'War Poem', 'Congratulations' and 'You Wake Up in the Afterlife', plus many more.
Somehow each poem no matter the length or topic managed to tug at a part of my heart. Reading these poems once isn't enough. They make you want to go pack with a fine tooth comb and gather up every crumb of emotion and message in the lines because they are devastatingly raw, real, and ruggedly polished. I am keeping this book tucked close to my heart and can't wait to read these pieces of art to ones I love.
This book has become a prized possession that sits on my desk in the package it came in from the Royal Mail. I found Lucas Jones on Instagram and his words always seemed to be exactly what I needed to hear. Truly, his poetry is genius and witty and captures the problems of our world, all while creating hope and positive messages. If you haven’t seen his Instagram check it out, the way he reads is amazing! He actually inspired me to start writing poetry again and I am SO glad I have! ❤️❤️
My favourite poems in this book are: (page number and poem name)
6 - No Flowers Please 9 - I will teach my boys to be dangerous men 16 - Girls 21 - The worst crime in all of mankind 24 - A man sits beside his daughter 28 - My favourite thing my therapist said 30 - War Poem 42 - I stabbed my neighbour to death because I didn't like his hat 46 - what if Actual God in Actual Heaven 51 - You Wake Up in the After Life
Strong themes and several moving poems! Definitely worth the read, with many that I’ll refer back to.
That being said, I liked the eclectic nature of his first book a bit more. This book focused on similar themes of love, feminism, imperfection, and mortality, but felt a little less raw.
Worth the purchase overall, and I’ll continue supporting this author!
5 ⭐️ Wonderful poetry collection with all poems standing out in their own way. Lucas Jones is one of the best poets of our generation and while I love his performances of the poems, the book in printed form was just as amazing.
Lucas Jones is such a wordsmith. I have never witnessed anyone describe the hurdles of modern life with such brio, accuracy and beauty. Bulls eye every single time.
