To Carve A Wolf: Dark Omegaverse Romance

Rate this book
This isn’t a love story. It’s a hunt.

I carved runes into my spine to silence the wolf.
I bled under moonlight and bit down on screams.
I didn’t run to be saved.
I ran to never be found.
And if an Alpha dares put his hands on me,
I’ll rip out his throat before I let him touch me.

She smelled wrong. Wild. Buried.
Like something ancient trying to stay forgotten.
She looked at me like a threat.
Fought me like she’d rather die than be mine.
I should’ve left her alone.
But gods help me… I want her.
And I’ll unravel every secret she bleeds before I let her go.

I’m actually unwell. This book ate me alive and then licked the blood off its teeth.

Lexa is an omega—but not the submissive, bond-hungry kind. She’s the kind who carved runes into her own back to suppress the wolf inside her. She doesn’t kneel, doesn’t beg, and sure as hell doesn’t accept the role the world carved out for her. She’s hiding, surviving, protecting a child that isn’t hers—but she’d burn the world to keep him safe.

“I saw what they did to my sisters… I won’t live on my knees.”

Then Andros shows up. Alpha. Warlord. A literal monster with a sword in one hand and the blood of dynasties on the other. He should be the villain—and he is—but the tension between them is fire and frost and fate on the edge of a knife.

“She looked like a ghost, but she burned like prophecy.”

The way she spits in his face. The way he pins her to the wall and knows there’s something ancient under her skin.

This is not a love story. It’s a war. But gods, it’s beautiful. Violent, broken, slow-burn, omegaverse perfection. And it’s standalone, so no cliffhangers—just one sharp, unforgettable ride.

10/10 would sell my soul to read it again for the first time.

I’ve been in a rut for sooo long. Finding a new and interesting story is like finding gold and I am thrilled I discovered this one. Shifter books are my absolute favorite.

The world building is simple but well built. It’s raw and gritty with shifters and humans fighting for power. IMO, There is nothing better than a fmc who is strong but wounded. There’s a beautiful balance of being gentle but fierce. Closed off and cautious but not a bitch. she never surrenders and fights so hard for herself and for her boy. I loved her. The alpha is an overbearing alpha hole who is used to having what he wants and I swooned at the way they slowly broke each other down. They collided in a way that felt like destiny without being forced or too much insta lust.

There are moments when it’s a bit repetitive in the way he describes her and the magic she’s under but it didn’t stop me. I fucked my entire sleep cycle right up because I couldn’t put this down.

Definitely recommend 4.5⭐️

Ok so I really wanted to love this book. The premise is really interesting. I liked the FMC and her story was heartbreaking and interesting. I felt for her and loved her connection to Dain. I wanted more of her history though. We get tiny glimpses of what she must have survived, and then one scene of memories flooding the MMC near the end of the book. I’m glad he saw what she went through but the book could have been much more compelling if the author had fleshed those memories out a bit and let the reader actually relive some of those traumas with the FMC. It was the whole reason for her suppressing her wolf, after all.

The romance was cringe and rushed. This was true enemies-to-lovers but it took what makes that trope so great and turned it into “enemies-to-dubious consent encounters-to-in love”. It was weird, disingenuous, and not believable.

And that leads me to the MMC. I hate this guy. Gas lighting her, narcissistic alpha-hole who honestly doesn’t have many redeeming qualities. I love a good morally dark man, but this guy legit SAs her twice and blames her for it during. Then keeps her locked in his room for a week and half, separated from her son, and then had the audacity to say she’s selfish because she didn’t comfort her son during a thunderstorm?! Im sorry what now? She’s locked in your room and guarded 24/7 you douche, how can she comfort her son you’re keeping from her? All this chick wants is agency. Literally all she wants. It’s why she suppressed her wolf and hides in a shit fishing village. And instead of being at all sympathetic to her, he cages her, *forces* the claiming bond while holding her down (literally removing all her agency) and then when she dares to give him a taste of his own medicine by sending images through the bond, he storms to her room and SAs her while saying “I’ll show who you tied yourself to”. I’m sorry but YOU tied HER against her will. She didn’t choose you my guy. Ugh. So many other examples but I just can’t. I understand this was a dark romance but honestly the only “romance” was the epilogue and it wasn’t enough to make up for his being an insufferable prick the entire book.

This was an okay read not great but not bad. The beginning started off so great then I felt the Alpha lost his alphaness. Some parts felt a little awkward and pushed. The author was new to me and if she publishes anything else in English I would definitely read it!

One of the best wolf shifter books I've read.
A dark, broody, violently vicious Alpha-hole with an equally vicious little omega.
True enemies to lovers, inside deceit, and a short read that concludes nicely.

So good

Hands down, best wolf book I've read this year. So well written unlike a lot that you find with a compelling story and likeable characters. Slow burn, with high heat. The mating was coming but it took a bit to get there, but it made sense at the same time. Really enjoyable read, wasn't even on my tbr, I just saw it advertised in a group and had to give it a go.

3.5/5

I think this could have been edited a bit better just as far as the spelling and grammar go, but overall I enjoyed the story. This looks to be the author's first foray into an omegaverse, and given that I think she did a wonderful job. I would have liked if things like the transformation from human to wolf had been better fleshed out, as it all felt pretty vague. But I really liked when the MMC got the flashback of the MFC's life until that point, and while I'm sure some wouldn't enjoy a fade to black right at the end during a battle, I didn't mind it. I think it worked well here. The banter was great, I was hooked enough to see it through to the end.

“What kind of beast protects the weak?”
— To Carve A Wolf by Lavinia Calina

What. A. Book. #Masterpiece @calina_lavinia has done it again! And believe me, I’ve read my fair share of werewolf stories — but this one? It stands apart. Completely unique.

For the first time ever, I saw an FMC let a witch carve runes into her flesh just to bury her wolf. She hides it, cages it. She chooses silence over chaos. Control over instinct. And somehow that makes her even more dangerous. I mean… how wild is that?

Lavinia has this magical ability to emotionally wreck you just enough before hooking you for life. She rips your heart out, shatters it and hands it back with a grin. Consider yourself warned.

Ah yes feminine rage, I live for it. Cause why does that man think he’s just gonna walk in here and be in charge? He’s gonna have to work for it. I liked all the characters, and it had all the elements I want from a wolf book.

This was actually pretty good in the first half
It was very enemies to lovers and the FMC did not want anything to do with the MMC for a long time.
But then they just… randomly get together? And all was forgotten and she was all smiles and giggling
That threw me off

I really wanted to give this a 5 because I absolutely loved it, but it needs a serious round of editing.

I really loved the way this book flows. It’s fast paced and easy to keep up with, on top of being a relatively quick read that checks all of my boxes. There is a little bit of OW drama but it’s not reciprocated and it drives the plot. The plot does pickup towards the end of the read but it doesn’t end on a cliffhanger and wraps up well.
You’ll definitely feel good at the end of it, if not left yearning because it could definitely grow into more.
There are no major plot holes, but the suspense and questions start right out of the gate and are answered before the story ends. They’re not the sort of questions that take from the story and leave you wondering, but just *enhancers*.

This book does have some spice but that is not the basis of the story.

I do think that our conflict was resolved almost too easily but there’s a fine line with conflict resolution and enemies to lovers. Sometimes it gets redundant and drawn out and nobody likes an FMC that’s just outright stupid and in denial. That’s not a problem here.

Matter of fact I don’t think I’ve read a book with this kind of plot before. 🧐
I’d def recommend this as a palate cleanser.
It’s thorough, it’s good, it has a clear plot with a solid ending and you don’t go through hell in the process.

I really liked this story, but I really wish it had been longer. I would have loved to have seen the background story drawn out and the relationship between the two MCs developed a little slower. The ending felt rushed and the best parts were left out. There were quite a few formatting errors in the kindle version. That sounds like a lot of bad things but it’s actually a good story and I enjoyed it. I liked the MMC a lot and I liked that the FMC was strong and stubborn, but not annoyingly so.

This was an awesome read! Unique shifter story, engaging writing, well written with good dialogue. I love that this was a stand alone, but there was enough meat, it could have been a duet. Read in 24 hours….i would really love more from this author!

I loved this..I love how he claimed her even against her will lol that's just me. I love stuff like that. the story line was really good..it was hard to put the book down when it was midnight but I managed lol. the beginning, there is a scene where he hooked up with the ow...but the sex scene wasn't on page..& he didn't care about her at all..& told her to get ou the next morning this was b4 he even met the main girl in this story. then when he meets the main girl he doesn't hook up with the ow again..well he kisses her at one part cuz she comes on to him in his room..she wasnt supposed to he in his room but shes desprate & trying to be luna...didnt realize she was only being used for sex..so at this point he cant get the scent and the memory of the main girl out of his mind..the ow comes on to him..he tries to go back to his old habits kisses her makes out with her she starts undoing his pants..but then it feels all wrong to him..this ow isnt the main girl So he pushes her away & makes her leave...and feels grossed out about it...it's weird that it didn't bother me as much as it should of..cuz even a main character kissing another women in books pisses me off..so not sure why it didn't hit me hard in this book...but he ends it quick kicks her out cuz he feels sickened by her. after that it's all about the main girl of the book she's the only one that doesn't want him. bcuz she is fighting her omega nature she doesnt want to be owned b6 anybody...but i think there like true mates but not sure if that was even mentioned tbh..but they both felt a pull to eachother like they were mates..he is so sweet to her boy when shes held captive in his room..he comforts the boy during a thunder storm keeps him busy....my fav part is when the witch tells him..the boy isn't his mates to claim..cuz it isnt her real child..its a child she saved and took care of.the witch said..it will be his daughters choice..& his shock..cuz he dont have kids yet...so he knows its his future kids with the main girl..🥰.and omg I was so happy to know that they will have a daughter in the future & the daughter will fall in love with the human boy Dain that her mom raised for years.. that part was so sweet. I liked how most of the book was his pov since most of the time she was stuck in the bedroom lol. so I feel like her povs would of been boring n e ways..but I always prefer duel povs cuz I wanna know what the dude is up to. esp when there's ow drama...I wanna see him pushing the ow away...I don't wanna be stuck waiting chapters not knowing what he is up to 😆 im nosey i need to know lol. I really enjoyed this book. Definitely recommended it

Soooo Good, exceptionally different!!!

The writing style is so descriptive, you are in the room with every scene watching and experiencing all the emotions of the characters.... I'm always searching for a werewolf book that is different from the norm.. this book checks that box! I never grew tired of waiting for them to figure it out or skipped pages to get to the point, I wanted to read every page. Talented writer! Read this if you want a different story line, dark romance🔥, fighting nature, and a HEA.

amazing, the energy in this story! 😍

She didn’t want the life of a wolf shifter omega. So she found a way to hide. Until he found her and was so intrigued by something he didn’t understand…he wouldn’t let her go…
So good. 😍🥵🥰

Uggh, the heroine had two modes. Angry and REALLY angry. If you like that in your heroine, then this book is for you. No sex until 70%. It unfortunately wasn't even really interesting enough to have more to say. It's your typical dark indie romance these days with predictable, repetitive writing and one dimensional characters. I was excited about claiming her without her consent, but it just dragged on so long before it happened and then even longer until they actually had sex it didn't matter at that point, especially because I couldn't find anything likeable about either MC. I gave 2 stars instead of 1 because I appreciate the author's willingness to try to write a book with Non-Consensual elements, but I think that if you're going to try it, you have to really commit to it.
