5 Stars – A Profound Healing Roadmap for Avoidant Hearts!
Avoidant Attachment Detox is not just a book — it’s a life raft. A. J. Brooks delivers a compassionate, science-informed, and incredibly practical guide for anyone who’s struggled with emotional distance, numbing, or fear of intimacy.
What makes this book shine is its balance: clear psychological theory meets real-world tools. From breathwork to love languages, journaling to shadow work, Brooks walks the reader through every stage of healing with empathy and wisdom.
Whether you’re on a solo healing path or trying to love someone with avoidant traits, this book offers hope — not in vague promises, but in step-by-step transformation. It helped me reframe avoidant patterns not as flaws, but as old survival strategies ready to be rewritten.
A must-read for anyone seeking secure, authentic, lasting connection. I’ll be recommending it to clients, friends, and colleagues alike.
While I do not personally struggle with the issues outlined in the Avoidant Attachment Detox, I am aware of others who do. The explanations on deeper rooted issues are helpful in learning how to support those who struggle with avoiding close bonds. I especially appreciated the benefiting solution suggestions on how to approach those struggling with over independence.
If you like reading books on Attachments theory and so on then this book will not disappoint. The are three types of attachments- secure, anxious and avoidant. This book focuses on the latter. Even though I’m not an avoidant i find it useful to understand the other people perspective.
