this book perfoms well as both a deep analysis into avoidant attachment, and a gentle start to uncovering the Shadow work needed to begin healing into a more securly attached self.

the breath of subtopics covered in the material was beyond impressive.
from the importance of setting and maintaining boundaries to promote more successful growth,
all the way to interpersonal solutions for complex relationship difficulties that can occur when fostering a space for avoidant individuals to grow safely.
my notes folder from this book is as diverse as it is deep and meaningful.

"embracing your full self, including the shadow aspects, is not about uncovering flaws but acknowledging all parts of your being thus fostering a holistic growth but permeates every facet of your life"

"the reconstruction of trust is not just possible,
it is a transformative process that can lead to significantly more fulfilling relationships"

"within the context of a relationship, conflict can be reframed as a rich soil from which deeper understanding and intimacy can grow"

"each of your triggers has something to teach you about your fears needs and boundaries"

"The integration of your shadow self is a delicate process that can significantly enhance your emotional and relational well-being"

this book is a must read for anyone who resonates with an avoidant attachment style,
especially those with a desire for more secure and fulfilling relationships romantically and otherwise

5 Stars – A Profound Healing Roadmap for Avoidant Hearts!

Avoidant Attachment Detox is not just a book — it’s a life raft. A. J. Brooks delivers a compassionate, science-informed, and incredibly practical guide for anyone who’s struggled with emotional distance, numbing, or fear of intimacy.

What makes this book shine is its balance: clear psychological theory meets real-world tools. From breathwork to love languages, journaling to shadow work, Brooks walks the reader through every stage of healing with empathy and wisdom.

Whether you’re on a solo healing path or trying to love someone with avoidant traits, this book offers hope — not in vague promises, but in step-by-step transformation. It helped me reframe avoidant patterns not as flaws, but as old survival strategies ready to be rewritten.

A must-read for anyone seeking secure, authentic, lasting connection. I’ll be recommending it to clients, friends, and colleagues alike.

useful resource

While I do not personally struggle with the issues outlined in the Avoidant Attachment Detox, I am aware of others who do. The explanations on deeper rooted issues are helpful in learning how to support those who struggle with avoiding close bonds. I especially appreciated the benefiting solution suggestions on how to approach those struggling with over independence.

Great Book On Attachment

If you like reading books on Attachments theory and so on then this book will not disappoint. The are three types of attachments- secure, anxious and avoidant. This book focuses on the latter. Even though I’m not an avoidant i find it useful to understand the other people perspective.
