Torn between two worlds, can their love survive the season?
When Eleanor Evans lands a spot at London’s most prestigious culinary school, her dreams finally feel within reach. Desperate to scrape together the cash for her tuition, she accepts a last-minute agency position as a chalet girl that whisks her away to Maplewood Creek, a quaint, snow-kissed town nestled in the Rocky mountains of Colorado.
Hired by the affluent Hawthorne family, Elle finds herself in a world of wealth, luxury and big egos, far removed from her humdrum everyday life. As she navigates the challenges of her new job, mastering gourmet dishes and catering to the whims of her discerning employers, she soon realizes there’s something she hadn't accounted Charles Hawthorne, the family’s charming and undeniably sexy eldest son.
Charles soon becomes an unexpected distraction for Elle, and she can't deny the sizzling chemistry between them. But with Elle’s career aspirations hanging in the balance, and Charles's carefree lifestyle and family expectations putting strain on their blossoming relationship, can this unlikely duo survive the season . . . ?
This book sooooo put me in the christmasy spirit😍😍 and damn it made me hungry — it’s about a private chef who gets a job for a rich family at their chalet!! And it starts off with a one night stand hehe what a fun listen! Another Christmas book to add to my listen that gave me hallmark movie vibes!!

There were some cute moments in this. If you are a foodie, you'll love the descriptions (I'm not but I could acknowledge that it was well done). I did think this was going to be a three star read for me but the conflict at the end was handled so well and in such a realistic manner, that I was impressed and glad. It did end abruptly, I felt, but it was good overall.
This was such a cute, cosy romance — the perfect winter read! I adored following Elle’s journey from London to the snow-dusted charm of Maplewood Creek. The food descriptions alone had me starving the entire time (seriously, someone get me a truffle risotto ASAP).
Charles was such a standout MMC — thoughtful, charming, and just the right mix of confident and kind. I loved how their chemistry built naturally, and the tension between Elle’s ambitions and their growing connection felt so believable.
If you love slow-burn romance, small-town winter settings, and stories that make you want to raid your kitchen halfway through, this one’s for you.
A very cute, cosy, festive read. This book was just so lovely, so sweet. Eleanor is an aspiring chef, wanting to go to a prestigious culinary school. To be able to afford it, she works as a private chef for the elite Hawthorne family. I instantly fell in love with the town Maplewood Creek, it felt so real, as well as the characters. Perfect cutesy love story
Wow I didn’t expect to like this so much. It is a lighthearted story to get you in the Winter holiday mood set in a cozy small town in the snowy mountains.
The FMC, Elle, is a financially struggling chef who gets accepted to a culinary school in London. She takes a job as a private chef in mentioned small town in order to be able to finance that school. The story is told in her single POV. The MMC, Charles, is from a crazy rich family and about to take over the family’s company as the new CEO following his father.
What made the story unique in my opinion is the detailed description of Elle’s cooking and recipes. One of my guilty pleasures are cooking shows (I even don’t know why as I’m not really great at cooking and don’t do it often) so this book was right up my alley.
I liked the writing style and how the story came together, the vivid and the picturesque descriptions of the setting and town, the lovable side characters, and how the tragic backstories of the MCs were handled. Reading this book was like watching a Hallmark movie but much better.
I loved the part in the beginning when both MCs met. From their first conversation to the tension slowly building between them. This part was perfectly written, I was so much drawn into their meetup. There was no fully open door spice (fades to black) but I ate it up anyway. I loved how their relationship developed throughout the book and how they got to know each other better. This story and the characters felt so real and believable to me I had the best time.
I’d say this book is for everyone who is looking for a lighthearted and cute story to get themselves into the perfect winter holiday mood. Perfect to read on a cold maybe snowy day with a hot cocoa. It’s an entertaining and short read you can binge in a day.
Tropes: • forced proximity • opposites attract • billionaire MMC • secret romance • small town setting • no 3rd act breakup
I received this as an arc in exchange for an honest review. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher.
Elle gets accepted into the culinary program of her dreams, but now she needs to earn money to cover her tuition. When the opportunity to work as a chalet chef for a prominent family drops into her lap, she can’t say no. And when the guy she had a one-night stand while stranded on her way to said job turns out to be the handsome son of said wealthy family, things get a little more complicated.
This story had a lot of promise, but it just didn’t quite deliver for me. I was hoping for more tension and emotional depth between the characters, but the romance felt rushed and the feelings stayed fairly surface-level. The setting itself was charming and definitely gave cozy, winter-retreat vibes, and the plot is easy to follow and light.
Read this if you’re in the mood for a cozy, low-stakes, Hallmark-style winter romance that’s sweet and easy to read.
Thank you to Pan Macmillan and NetGalley for the ARC. All opinions are my own.
4,5⭐️ This was such a fun cozy romance ! I really liked the chemistry between Eleanor and Charles. Their meet cute was well done. I really enjoyed how Eleanor’s work as a chef was depicted, it’s almost like we got little recipes which is nice. The banter was good and Charles is such a swoony MMC. I liked the progression of the story, it was fast paced but I kind of wish it was a bit longer. The ending was a bit rushed but still satisfying. Perhaps it’s just that I would’ve liked to read more about them ! Hopefully there’s more books in this world! Overall, it’s a nice small town holiday romance that is definitely worth reading !
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for an arc of this book. Opinions are my own.
When Eleanor gets accepted into her dream culinary school in London, she still needs to figure out how to cover the remaining tuition. Enter an unexpected opportunity: a high-paying gig as a chalet girl (aka private chef) for a wealthy family in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. What she doesn’t plan for? Falling for the eldest son of her employer.
This is a light, cozy romance with very low stakes and all the comforting vibes of a snowy resort. Perfect if you’re in the mood for something romantic and escapist without too much emotional turmoil.
Really easy to get stuck into this small town romance book, FMC Elle is a chef with the opportunity to become a chalet girl for a super wealthy family. Think Chalet Girl the film with Ed Westwick.
Lighthearted and funny with dreamy relatable side characters. The romance was slow but kept you on edge.
Definitely one of my new favourite festive reads!!! This is how you write a small town cosy romance🎄🎁 I also absolutely loved the cooking element in this and all the descriptions of her recipes!!

➕ Sookie Snow strikes a perfect balance between entertaining & emotional. Despite having some colder, harder moments (that are pivotal for Charles & Elle’s story), the overall takeaway is one of warmth, comfort & love.
➕Thanks to Sookie’s detailed & vivid writing style, I was able to place myself within the story, picture the characters, setting & food. (word of warning, don’t read this book when you’re hungry 🫠) The plot was uncomplicated & easy to follow making this a ‘read in one sitting’ kind of book, the perfect break from reality.
➖There were times where I felt like the pacing was a little bit too fast, especially towards the end. A lot seemed to happen in quick succession & although this wasn’t a huge negative, a few extra pages would’ve gone a long way.

This was an enjoyable cosy festive read. A hallmark movie waiting to happen! Although predictable, it delivered exactly what I was hoping for - cosy winter vibes, sharp wit & humour, palpable but low angst chemistry, no third act breakup & a HEA! (A cosy romance readers dream💖) I liked that it was spicy but not in your face spicy… there was just enough to keep you locked in but the story didn’t revolve around it. Overall, this was a great introduction to Sookie Snow & I’m excited to see what comes next!
If wholesome, lighthearted, cosy romance is your thing this is a book to add to your TBR❣️

📣 A huge thank you to NetGalley, Pan Macmillan & Sookie Snow for giving me the opportunity to read this ARC. This is my honest opinion & I’m sharing it voluntarily.
Thank you to Pan Macmillan and Libro FM for the gifted audiobook.
If you love cozy winter romcoms, foodie romance, and small-town holiday books, Chef’s Kiss at the Chalet feels like stepping into a snow-globe kitchen. 🥰 We follow an adorable chef, a steamy one-night stand that refuses to stay in the past, and a charming ski village bursting with twinkle lights, bakeries, and gossip. 🤭
🥐 What did you love the most? The food descriptions are mouthwatering. I swear I could smell sugar, butter, and chocolate. It made me want to bake holiday cookies and book reservations I can’t afford 😂 Snow also uses food as comfort and love language, and it works so well.
The small-town charm also shines. This ski village feels like a spicy Hallmark movie: local shops, warm chalets, and Christmas at every corner. The side characters feel real and add that cozy romcom magic. 🙌
🎧 How was the audio? Brittany Pressley is one of my favorite narrators and she knocks it out of the park. She captures the banter, longing, and humor perfectly. The audio made this romance feel alive and bingeable.
🥐 What to expect: ✨ Mouthwatering food ✨ Forced proximity ✨ Small ski-town vibes ✨ Holiday romance ✨ Cozy winter escapism 🔥 Steam: Open-door scenes
🥐 How was the romance? Adorable, realistic, and emotionally grounded. The friends-to-lovers arc is layered with ambition, vulnerability, and connection. The spice feels earned and tied to character growth, not just thrown in.
🥐 Do you recommend it? If you’re searching for a holiday romcom for your TBR, this book deserves a spot. 📚 The festive resort town, the chalet vibes, and the delicious food create a warm atmosphere you can practically taste. I read this almost in one sitting.
Elle Evans gets a chance to follow her culinary ambitions when she is offered a place at a prestigious cookery school in London. Needing to get the funds to allow her to accept, she leaves her job at a Denver coffee shop to take a last minute opening as a chalet girl for the season in Maple Creek, a small town in the Rockies.
She knows the affluent Hawthorne family have a reputation for being difficult, but the hefty salary means she is willing to put up with a lot to make her dreams come true. What she does not anticipate is that she will find herself hot and bothered by Charles Hawthorne, the charming and sexy son of her employers, just when she really does not need the distraction...
With cosy, small-town loveliness, Snow spins a festive tale which is decidedly steamy in all the right places! Elle and Charles are attracted to each other from the off, but she is wary of blurring the line between work and pleasure, especially given how much she needs to keep her job.
Gorgeous romantic suspense builds between the couple while Elle makes friends amongst the enchanting Maple Creek community, and cooks up a storm to keep Charles' demanding, privacy-obsessed mother happy. Of course, there are snowy bumps a-plenty on the road to happiness, but everything works out perfectly in the end - via an epic gingerbread cook-off!
I loved all the small-town Hallmark vibes, the characters, the family drama, the generous portion of tasty dishes, and the spark between down to earth Elle and the more jaded Charles who wants more than his life as heir to the Hawthorne fortune. Swoonworthy stuff!
Chef’s Kiss at the Chalet felt like being wrapped in a fuzzy blanket while someone hands you hot cocoa and tells you your cute boss’s son might be staring at you from across the room. It’s cosy, festive, and just the right amount of chaotic... basically everything I want in a winter small town romance.
Elle is out here trying to chase her culinary dreams and survive a chalet girl job where the kitchen is hot, the family is extra, and the eldest Hawthorne son somehow thinks smouldering looks are a personality trait.
And honestly? I didn’t hate it. In fact, I was rooting for their “we absolutely should not be doing this but we definitely are” chemistry from the moment he walked in like a walking Christmas card.
I loved Maplewood Creek! The snowy mountains, the small town charm, the whole vibe of “my city life is falling apart but maybe this place and this guy could fix me.” Elle juggling elite culinary school expectations with the Hawthorne family’s impossible demands made the story feel fun and chaotic in the best way. Charles is the kind of distraction you claim you don’t want but absolutely trip over yourself for anyway.
The only reason this wasn’t a full four or five stars for me is because sometimes the romance felt a little caught between two worlds. Elle’s career dreams vs. Charles’s family expectations. I wanted just a little more depth to their final emotional click. But overall? I had a great time. It’s cosy, sweet, flirty, snowy, and gave me major Chalet Girl energy with a side of swoon.
If you’re in the mood for a festive escape with charm, food, chemistry, and winter romcom chaos, this book will absolutely deliver the vibes.
Thank you to Netgalley, Pan Macmillan, and Sookie Snow for sending me this ARC!
If anyone is craving a cosy, cute Christmas read, look no further because this book is all of that and more. The way Snow wrote about cooking throughout the story was with genuine passion, and for lack of a better word, addictive. It made me experience the pleasures of cooking even though I don't like to cook, haha. The writing flowed and didn't feel unnatural or overly complicated, which is key for a cosy book. Additionally, the characters were well developed, with both the main characters, Eleanor and Charles, feeling so realistic with their personalities, flaws, motivations, and backstories. One thing that I will say is that more description of the characters' appearances throughout the story is needed. In terms of backstory, I appreciated how both characters have tragic backstories that were discussed. However, this doesn't make the story feel heavier emotionally, which is great because, while it is a cosy Christmas romance, it shouldn't shy away from dealing with darker themes. Kudos to Snow for finding that delicate balance between keeping the book light-hearted and exploring darker topics.
Something else that I would love to acknowledge is the originality of the story. I have never read something like this, and it was refreshing and enticed me even more.
I recommend it to everyone, but most of all seasonal readers, as it put me into the Christmas spirit, and it's only August XD.
Eleanor, who has no family, has just been accepted to a prestigious culinary school in London--if she can scrape up the many thousands of dollars she'll need for the tuition and flights. In a bind, she accepts a last-minute position as "chalet girl" (ugh) to the mega-wealthy Hawthorne family, in their mansion in Maplewood Creek, a small Colorado town obsessed with Christmas. The matriarch of the family is pretty demanding, but Eleanor quickly makes friends in town and manages to keep up the quality of her work at the mansion (lots of food descriptions!). The biggest possible stumbling block is the Hawthorne son, Charles, with whom Eleanor had instant chemistry. She could lose her job--and her dream--if they carry on a relationship. Think they do? Yup.
This is a Hallmark movie waiting to be made--I'd watch it. Completely predictable and full of the usual tropes (like young woman goes to small town, within two weeks is counted a local and has all local friends, etc.), this is a book you go into expecting that kind of thing--there's comfort in predictability. Lots of great descriptions, not just of food, but of scenery and the town and so forth. Probably of the, ahem, intimate moments as well, but I skipped over those so can't really comment. This is pretty low angst, so if you're looking for a light holiday romance in a small town with lots of fabulous food, dig in! Thanks to Libro.FM for a free educator copy of the audiobook.
The title and cover instantly caught my attention! I knew I had to read this book!
I absolutely loved the story from beginning to end. Time just flew by! Every chapter flowed so naturally into the next one, and there wasn’t a single moment where I wanted to stop reading. With all the food descriptions, I was hungry the entire time I was reading.
The relationship between Elle and Charles felt realistic, gentle, and beautiful. I loved seeing how they grew together and how their story unfolded. What made the book even better was that their romance wasn’t the only focus; we got to see Elle’s life as a private chef, which made everything even more interesting. And the ending… I loved it!
Mrs. Hawthorne, who seemed so strict and rigid at first, turned out to have such a kind heart and sensitivity. She’s grounded and strong, but she also knows when to admit her mistakes and focus on others’ happiness, especially her children’s. I think she might be my favorite character in the story!
My favorite scene? The cooking competition! It was so intense! I could almost feel the pressure and stress Elle was under. I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough!
If you love cozy reads with snow, chalets, private chefs, gingerbread house contests, and a touch of romance... This book is definitely for you!
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
If you love your chick-lit romance novels hot both inside and outside the bedroom, then “Chef’s Kiss at the Chalet” is a fabulously dreamy read, as steamy in the kitchen as it is in the chalet!
I’ve always adored American small-town romances set against snowy, festive backdrops and author Sookie Snow knows exactly how to whisk readers into that cosy, romantic atmosphere. I for one, fell head over heels for the entire ensemble and the charm of this story. A perfect backdrop, a wonderfully crafted storyline and engaging characters you can’t help but admire and root for, not just the main protagonists but the entire cast.
One tip I’d give, don’t read this book on an empty stomach haha! The mouthwatering food references and meal prep scenes are to die for. It’s clear that Sookie Snow either has some serious culinary talent herself (alongside her writing skills) or she’s done some top-notch research into the world of à la carte cooking.
A chef’s kiss for this book for sure, it’s a deliciously heartwarming (and sizzling) romance novel, that left me smiling - and maybe a little hungry - long after the final, satisfying page.
This book understood the assignment: cozy, festive, low-stress romance with just enough emotional seasoning to keep things interesting, and honestly? It delivers.
Chef’s Kiss at the Chalet is pure winter escapism. Snowy mountains, luxury chalets, rich people behaving badly, and a heroine who can actually cook her way out of a crisis. Eleanor (Elle) is easy to root for: ambitious, slightly overwhelmed, and laser-focused on her culinary dreams. The chalet-girl setup gives the story that delicious fish-out-of-water energy, especially as she’s thrown into the Hawthorne family’s glossy, ego-filled world.
And then there’s Charles. Charming, privileged, a little too comfortable with his life, but not in an irredeemable way. The chemistry between him and Elle is instant and believable, full of stolen moments, quiet conversations, and that constant push-pull between wanting love and wanting a future that actually makes sense. Their relationship never feels frivolous, which I appreciated. Elle never loses sight of her goals, and the book consistently respects that.
The festive vibes are immaculate. Think crackling fires, snowy mornings, comfort food, and that specific cozy-romance feeling where everything smells faintly of cinnamon and possibility. The small-town setting adds warmth without overpowering the central romance, and the cooking elements are woven in just enough to make you hungry without turning into a food memoir.
Overall, this is a comforting, charming winter romance that balances ambition and love beautifully. Perfect for reading under a blanket with a hot drink and zero responsibilities. Absolutely worth the seasonal mood read slot ❄️🔥🍽️
⭐️ 3.5 stars ⭐️ Elle is a chef, garnering all the experience she can before going to London to a special cooking school. These things aren't cheap so to aid tuition, she takes a job as a chalet girl/private chef with a billionaire family. Wouldn't you know, the son of said family is actually the biggest dish of them all and that's where the trouble starts. Or more accurately, where the trouble should start, for "Chef's Kiss at the Chalet" is just very sweet. I'm always saying that I don't like drama for drama's sake so in some ways I'm thrilled. I hope it isn't a spoiler to say that there is no third act break up and miscommunication is used very gently. I read this in two sittings, but ultimately felt that the beginning was more propulsive than the end. This would be the perfect novel for an afternoon during betwixtmas, when all energy is spent and you want to escape somewhere snowy and romantic in your mind. Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.
Firstly I would like to say thank you to the publisher for sending me a copy of this book!
If you want something light hearted, wintery and romantic to get you in the Christmas reading mood then this one is definitely a good choice.
Elle is a chef and needs to make enough money to afford her tuition to a prestigious culinary school so takes a job as private chef for the Hawthorne family! What she doesn't expect is the handsome man she met the night before to be Charles Hawthorne, the family's son!
This was a really fun quick wintery read that is great to start the Christmas reading season with because its not very heavy on the Christmas element and is more of a winter themed book.
The only thing that jumped out to me for this book that I didn't enjoy was I felt like some portions of the book were overly descriptive on things that weren't all that relevant to the actual story for example the times where the main character is cooking, it is explained in great detail which I felt could've been cut down slightly.
Thank you Netgalley & Panmacmillan for this ARC. This came out on the 06/11 ✨️ Slight delay in reading it due to flu germs.
This book is straight out of a Hallmark film vibe. Got me super in the mood for a winter romance. Was it predictable? Yes. But did I still enjoy it? 100000%.
We follow Elle on her journey to culinary success but first there is a slight hiccup, she needs money fast! She's offered a job she can't refuse, however the family are notrious for being difficult and she is to be their private chef. She arrives in Maplewood Creek where a snowstorm changes everything. A handsome stranger catches her eye, does a one night stand change her time in Mapelwood Creek? Does her menu for success include romance as an ingredient?
I really enjoyed this book it was a nice easy read with a nice warm fuzzy feel ♥️✨️ Perfect winter romance with a little bir of spice with that rom-com vibe. Loved the characters especially Pops ✨️

This was such an adorable love story! It felt realistic, and I especially enjoyed the friends to lovers trope between our main characters.
I appreciated that our FMC was passionate about cooking and worked as a private chef, plus it was a nice touch to include all the recipes throughout.
⚠️ Avoid this if you're hungry, as it will leave you craving delicious food.
Charles was truly the perfect guy—charming from the start and sweet throughout. He wasn't the typical boastful rich type, which I really liked, he was very relatable. This guy has many hidden talents for you to discover. Hint: ⛰️🚁⛷️
The overall atmosphere of this book was fantastic! The small resort town, beautifully decorated for Christmas, really conveyed cozy feelings through the pages. I read it almost in one go, which says a lot. You should definitely read it!
Thank you to netgalley and pan McMillan for the arc.
This was a cute cosy christmas vibe standalone that will leave you hungry! Elle is a chef that gets accepted to a prestigious cooking school in London and starts working as a private chef for a wealthy family at their chalet in the mountains to make money for school. The night before she starts she is stuck in town where she meets a guy and turns out he is the son of the family she is going to work for. The description of all the food makes your mouth water and her chef journey is the main plot of the story and the romance is secondary. There are a couple mildly spicy scenes but overall the romance not much and I almost feel like it could have been maybe a little more because I feel like the romance moved quickly without showing much of it and at the end feels like the romance is left hanging. Elle also makes some feiends in the new town where she works and we get a feel of a quaint little mountain ski village. Overall a great winter read if you are looking for a cozy story.
What a great way to start the winter season off! If you are into small-town romance, a private chef, and a chalet in a perfect winter wonderland town, then this is for you! The book was on the lighter, feel-good, cozy end of the romance spectrum, but that was a perfect start to December in the Northeast. The pacing was easy to follow, the banter between the 2 MCs was sweet, and the story had me smiling throughout. I loved the chemistry between the leads, and the atmosphere built around the chalet with "cheffy" vignettes added a lot of charm.
I think my only wish for this was a bit more depth to the characters, because the author created a great supporting cast that I would love to dig my teeth into a little more. It didn't take away from the story overall. I would love to explore Maplewood a little bit more.
If you're craving a quick, cozy, wintery romance that features a side of delicious food and snow-topped charm, then this is the book for you!
