Brilliant book, so insightful around investing, using the experience of around a dozen top fund managers. Even better than the author’s first book. Lots of lessons to learn!

Have a process and stick to it 4/5

To summarise this book in one sentence – cut your losing positions early and let your winners run. As with everything investment related the reality is more complex than that, however the authors show that behavioural discipline around decision making and execution is a key differentiator among fund managers, and that hit rates (% of ideas that are profitable) are less important than payoff ratios (the % realised gain on those winning ideas). The other subtle takeaways for me were the importance of having a process and not straying too far off-piste, how aligning your personality to that process can be beneficial, and an acknowledgement that there are multiple ways to generate alpha in the equity market.

This book is similar to Jack Schweger’s Market Wizards, though the focus is mainly on longer-term equity investing (for relative performance) rather than the short term trading across asset classes (for absolute return). The 11 interviews with successful managers were all insightful and the one covering Gorm Thomassen at AKO was probably my favourite. There are 3-4 stock examples per chapter and these were interesting to read through, especially when dealing with a thesis that wasn’t panning out.

I'd recommend this book to both professionals in the industry (analysts/PMs/allocators) and individuals investing their own capital. As you read you’ll likely refer to your own investment philosophy and process – are the outcomes really repeatable or are you just punting?

It's basically Schwager's Market Wizards format applied to medium-term traders. Rule Breakers still better.

Nice short quick book. It holds some interesting passages but it's certainly not the book of the year.
Still I recommend it for any investing enthusiast or Pro!
