Comprehensive, compassionate, and refreshingly clear, The Lucky Egg is the fertility guide we've all been waiting for!
Imagine if your best friend also happened to be a top reproductive endocrinologist―the kind who could break down the complexities of conception with warmth, humor, and real-world insight. In The Lucky Egg, Dr. Lucky Sekhon is that brilliant friend, ready to guide you through every stage of the fertility journey, whether it’s straightforward or deeply complex.
From understanding what your AMH level really means to navigating egg freezing, IVF, or embryo genetic testing, Dr. Lucky blends expert medical knowledge with relatable patient stories to demystify the process. Her guidance meets you exactly where you are―whether you're just starting to track ovulation, facing a diagnosis of diminished ovarian reserve, exploring the use of donor eggs or sperm, or have been through multiple rounds of treatment with no clear path forward.
One in six people struggle with infertility, yet open, informed conversations are still rare. For many, the journey to parenthood is isolating, overwhelming, and full of medical jargon. For LGBTQ+ individuals, the barriers can be even greater―layered with legal and political hurdles that make an already emotional process feel even more fraught.
The Lucky Egg is here to change that. With evidence-based, accessible explanations and a voice that feels like a trusted ally, Dr. Lucky empowers readers with the knowledge they need to make confident decisions. Her goal is simple but profound: to replace confusion and fear with clarity, comfort, and hope.
With unwavering optimism and the bedside manner you've been longing for, The Lucky Egg is your compassionate guide to planning for and building the family of your dreams.
Dr. Lucky, thank you so much for writing this book and for your nonstop teaching and advocacy in the fertility and reproductive health space. I highly recommend it for anyone who is curious about their fertility, is experiencing infertility, or wants to truly support someone undergoing treatments by learning more about them.
Walking the path of infertility is isolating, anxiety-inducing, frustrating, sometimes debilitating, and often leads to more questions than answers. As someone experiencing both infertility and RPL, I have spent my fair share of time scouring articles, forums, medical journals, podcasts, and more. When infertility impacts 1 in 6 couples, why aren’t there more updated and reliable sources of information? This book is truly a gift for anyone who has wished for an easier way to learn more about fertility.
I love how the book is broken into different sections to fit different people’s needs and scenarios. I read it all, but it’s formatted in a way that makes it easy to find whatever you’re specifically looking for.
Are you just starting to try to conceive? Read about how to optimize your chances of conception, which supplements are helpful versus scams, and all the reproductive info you probably didn’t learn in school.
Have you been trying for a while and wonder what’s next? Learn what to expect at your first appointment with an REI… how to find a good clinic, what questions to ask, and what tests they may order. (I definitely made use of the “questions to ask” section!)
Have you been on the path of infertility for a while and are ready to start treatment? Learn the ins and outs of different treatment plans, the pros and cons of each, and why a doctor may choose one option over another. I took many notes in the IUI and IVF sections.
Have you experienced loss or losses? First of all, I’m so sorry. It sucks. So much. This section was really meaningful to me. I took notes in the margins as she wrote about different causes, different tests, and different steps forward.
Are you wanting to preserve your fertility for the future and freeze your eggs? Or requiring a donor or surrogacy? There is so much great information included here as well.
In a world where misinformation is taking over the health space on social media, I am so grateful for Dr. Lucky. Not only did she create a book that puts reliable information in one place, but she is educating the world on a topic that more people should understand. Unfortunately, most people know very little about fertility until there’s a problem. Above all, the complex topics and data are presented in a way that is easy to read and comprehend.
Thank you, SMP, for an early copy of this book at a time when I was desperate for a guide like this!
Even if you’re not thinking about motherhood, I think this book offers incredibly important information about how the female body works depending on age, the different procedures available to become a mother, and all the information you truly NEED to know.
Thank you to St. Martin’s Press and Netgalley for this ARC
The Lucky Egg by Dr. Lucky Sekhon is an absolute must-read for any woman who is just beginning to consider trying to conceive or has already started the journey. I truly believe this book will become a staple resource for fertility, standing the test of time.
While it’s easy to turn to the internet for information, it can often be overwhelming and conflicting. What sets this book apart is how comprehensively and clearly Dr. Lucky addresses all fertility questions in one place. She makes complex topics easy to understand and includes real patient examples, which really help to illustrate potential fertility challenges. The book is thoughtfully broken down, making it simple to navigate whether you're seeking specific advice or just starting to learn about your fertility.
I especially appreciated her in-depth discussion about aging and fertility — it gave me a renewed sense of hope and clarity. If I could, I’d give it 10 stars! Reading this felt like chatting with a close friend who’s also a fertility specialist — Dr. Lucky’s warm personality shines through the pages. I was so impressed that I immediately followed her on Instagram — she’s just that likable and inspiring!
This book is an invaluable resource that I will recommend to every woman on her fertility journey. Don’t hesitate — it’s a game-changer.
Thank you to St. Martin’s Press and Netgalley for allowing me to read this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
The Lucky Egg was an extremely informative read. As a woman who has started assisted reproductive support, I wish I had had this book in the beginning of my fertility journey. Dr. Lucky Sekhon explains things in such an easy to understand way while still instilling hope, which many medical professionals are not able to do. I really appreciated the breakdown of terminology and explanations that gave information, guidance, and hopefulness. I also liked the play on "egg" for the chapter titles, which I felt was a cute touch on a subject that can naturally feel stressful. This book validated some of the information I've learned during my fertility journey while also teaching me new information. I also like how the author included guidelines on what to look for and avoid in terms of fertility doctors/clinics. I would definitely recommend this book to others.

The Lucky Egg is an incredibly informative and compassionate guide to understanding fertility. Dr. Lucky Sekhon does a wonderful job balancing personal anecdotes with clear, evidence based science, making even complex terms and processes easy to understand. I especially appreciated how hopeful and supportive her tone is throughout, which makes such a sensitive subject feel approachable. This is truly a valuable resource for anyone navigating fertility or just beginning to learn about reproductive health. Highly recommended!
Thank you to NetGalley, Lucky Sekhon, and St. Martin's Press for the eARC of this book.
If you are just starting your fertility journey or exploring IUI/IVF, this book is a great fit for you. It provides a lot of details and statistics behind how fertility works. Additionally provides details around IUI/IVF process which can make it seem less scary.
However, if you are looking for alternatives outside of IUI/IVF, or looking for advice on unexplained infertility - this book may not be the best fit for you/may contain information you already researched and explored.
Overall very informative if you are early in the fertility journey.
This is a great addition to anyone's library if they are looking to get a deeper understanding of fertility. I have curated a small 'Woman's Health" shelf for my friends and family and I am definitely adding this one to it. It's not a one-stop shop for all answers, and obviously will not replace your need for a good OBGYN/Reproductive Health Physician, but it will help you be better informed and less anxious about actively participating in advocating for yourself in the doctor's office.
Thank you for the giveaway ARC! As someone with a recent PCOS diagnosis (but 10 year suspicion), I found this book to be very thorough and offered great insight. Dr. Sekhon is clearly very knowledgeable and her voice comes across charming yet informative. There were some moments that came across a little condescending, but overall I took a lot away from this book and will recommend this to anyone on a TTC journey.
I’m so glad this made it to me at this time. As a 1:6 this was an easy to follow and very helpful map to trying to get pregnant. Mindfulness doesn’t fall short here, it’s research backed and incredibly informative but in a way where it helps more than huhs - the perfect balanced guide for the infertile souls
A very informative and thorough book on understanding fertility. This book would be a great resource for anyone navigating fertility issues. The author is very compassionate and clear in her writing. It's easy to tell how experienced she is.
I found The Lucky Egg to be very educational. I think it’s a helpful book for any woman who is on a fertility journey. The author is experienced, educated and compassionate. I highly recommend this book.
