Dr. Lucky, thank you so much for writing this book and for your nonstop teaching and advocacy in the fertility and reproductive health space. I highly recommend it for anyone who is curious about their fertility, is experiencing infertility, or wants to truly support someone undergoing treatments by learning more about them.

Walking the path of infertility is isolating, anxiety-inducing, frustrating, sometimes debilitating, and often leads to more questions than answers. As someone experiencing both infertility and RPL, I have spent my fair share of time scouring articles, forums, medical journals, podcasts, and more. When infertility impacts 1 in 6 couples, why aren’t there more updated and reliable sources of information? This book is truly a gift for anyone who has wished for an easier way to learn more about fertility.

I love how the book is broken into different sections to fit different people’s needs and scenarios. I read it all, but it’s formatted in a way that makes it easy to find whatever you’re specifically looking for.

Are you just starting to try to conceive? Read about how to optimize your chances of conception, which supplements are helpful versus scams, and all the reproductive info you probably didn’t learn in school.

Have you been trying for a while and wonder what’s next? Learn what to expect at your first appointment with an REI… how to find a good clinic, what questions to ask, and what tests they may order. (I definitely made use of the “questions to ask” section!)

Have you been on the path of infertility for a while and are ready to start treatment? Learn the ins and outs of different treatment plans, the pros and cons of each, and why a doctor may choose one option over another. I took many notes in the IUI and IVF sections.

Have you experienced loss or losses? First of all, I’m so sorry. It sucks. So much. This section was really meaningful to me. I took notes in the margins as she wrote about different causes, different tests, and different steps forward.

Are you wanting to preserve your fertility for the future and freeze your eggs? Or requiring a donor or surrogacy? There is so much great information included here as well.

In a world where misinformation is taking over the health space on social media, I am so grateful for Dr. Lucky. Not only did she create a book that puts reliable information in one place, but she is educating the world on a topic that more people should understand. Unfortunately, most people know very little about fertility until there’s a problem. Above all, the complex topics and data are presented in a way that is easy to read and comprehend.

Thank you, SMP, for an early copy of this book at a time when I was desperate for a guide like this!

Book five of 2026!

Thank you so much to @libro.fm for this advanced copy of this book.

This is a highly scientific and well-researched glimpse into fertility and reproductivity. As someone in the throes of infertility, walking a many year battle of seeking to better understand my body and prepare it, this was so comforting and informative to me. Written by a reproductive endocrinologist, Dr. Lucky provides readers with comprehensive knowledge and expertise on fertility and possible treatment measures and interventions.

This is not a light read but I thoroughly enjoyed the audio and despite knowing a good bit about hormones and fertility myself, learned so so much and feel more empowered to better understand what I need and what questions to ask of providers. If you need a resource for yourself or others in understanding fertility, let this be one of your resources! Grateful for this knowledge!

I read this with my doctor brain, my lived experience as a woman brain and my mom of three daughters brain, and it reached each of those brains in a really profound way. As a doctor, I often find “self help” books, specifically surrounding women’s health, fertility and parenting to be trite at best, and heavy handed and guilt producing at worst. This was neither of those. Everything was based in science and facts (with excellent footnotes/references), but was so easily understandable in the way that I wish all my fellow physicians could talk to their patients. As a woman, even with my pediatrician background, this is a book that I wish existed when I was a young woman embarking on my journey to motherhood. I had all the “facts” at the time, but context and how the basic scientific facts of reproduction relate to real life was always missing, but in this book it is not which is wonderful. And, as a mother, who has never shied away from talking to my girls about bodies, and periods, and sex, and pregnancy (mostly how to avoid it though), I am so glad that this book exists to give them the tools they need to move to the next phase of their journeys if they so choose, because Dr. Sekhon explains it all with facts, and thoughtfulness and kindness which is so very hard to do!!!

I really should’ve gotten the physical copy haha. This was very informative. We’ve been trying for about 8 years without any answers. Dr. Sekhon gave me a lot to think about: fertility clinics and what to expect and what to ask (even after we’ve gone and didn’t continue). She also gives me the confidence to move forward without feeling rushed due to my age. She gives a lot of research-based info about what to do next. I’m very hopeful to add minimal supplements to my diet to strengthen my body!

And even if you’re not in the market to get pregnant any time soon, Dr. sekhon has a lot of advice for good fertility. We may be struggling for a reason but we’re not informed. This is also a good resource to avoid pregnancy!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

The Lucky Egg by Dr. Lucky Sekhon is an absolute must-read for any woman who is just beginning to consider trying to conceive or has already started the journey. I truly believe this book will become a staple resource for fertility, standing the test of time.

While it’s easy to turn to the internet for information, it can often be overwhelming and conflicting. What sets this book apart is how comprehensively and clearly Dr. Lucky addresses all fertility questions in one place. She makes complex topics easy to understand and includes real patient examples, which really help to illustrate potential fertility challenges. The book is thoughtfully broken down, making it simple to navigate whether you're seeking specific advice or just starting to learn about your fertility.

I especially appreciated her in-depth discussion about aging and fertility — it gave me a renewed sense of hope and clarity. If I could, I’d give it 10 stars! Reading this felt like chatting with a close friend who’s also a fertility specialist — Dr. Lucky’s warm personality shines through the pages. I was so impressed that I immediately followed her on Instagram — she’s just that likable and inspiring!

This book is an invaluable resource that I will recommend to every woman on her fertility journey. Don’t hesitate — it’s a game-changer.

Thank you to St. Martin’s Press and Netgalley for allowing me to read this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This book was so reassuring. Perfect mix of scientific data and anecdotal evidence. I skipped through the treatment chapters for this point in my journey. As a dietitian, I really appreciated Dr. Sekhon quieting the noise about the hundreds of supplements and diets people recommend for fertility. She stuck to the tried and true basics and encouraged others to reach out to a registered dietitian for specific needs. This fertility book is perfect for anyone considering pregnancy, new to trying, or years in and ready for medical treatment.

Best fertility and infertility book out there. She talks about everything and it made me feel so much better knowing that she has gone through Ivf herself. She also talked about things that I haven’t thought of yet and gave me idea of what questions I should ask. Definitely recommend!

I’m so glad this made it to me at this time. As a 1:6 this was an easy to follow and very helpful map to trying to get pregnant. Mindfulness doesn’t fall short here, it’s research backed and incredibly informative but in a way where it helps more than huhs - the perfect balanced guide for the infertile souls

“You can read this book front to back, step by step, or jump straight to the section that speaks to where you’re at right now—whether that is preparing to get pregnant, exploring fertility treatments, or navigating unexpected challenges. However you choose to read it, my hope is that by the time you put it down, you feel more confident, more informed, and more at peace with the path that lies ahead of you”

The Lucky Egg is a fertility guide written to provide people with navigation toward conception. The guide goes into great detail of understanding basic reproductive biology, but while still making it personable with patient stories, own experience, and practical advice; instead of only going into the science behind everything in the female reproductive systems.

For someone like me (Mid-20s), I just like to learn. Learn about all sorts of new information on subjects I am ill-informed or lack knowledge in and this guide does a great job in doing just that. The Lucky Egg covers a wide range of topics, facts, and strategies that are very helpful to know as a younger woman hoping to conceive one day. In my opinion, this book provides valuable and reliable information without scaring the reader, but still being truthful.

Overall, Dr. Lucky Sekhon’s guide for fertility is educational and highly informative with thorough details, research, and facts, but while also being empathetic and reassuring. The guide is to make you feel at peace with the path ahead of you, not worried. Thank you NetGalley & St Martin’s Press for the ARC!

I don’t normally rate nonfiction books but if I did, this one would be five stars!

As someone who has been struggling with infertility for the last two years and was recently diagnosed with PCOS, I was nervous going into this book since I’ve been struggling mentally and emotionally. However, this book boosted my spirit a little bit and gave me some hope.

This book was so informative not only how the actual process of conceiving works, but with the various different types of tests and options to make this big dream a reality. The author/doctor did an amazing job describing everything and while this book was a bit repetitive reading it from front cover to back, I feel like it had to be to fully understand and as a refresher on certain terms and processes. I also enjoyed the step-by-step walkthroughs on what goes on with various tests, procedures, and learning more about IUI/IVF. There was also a lot of mental health representation at the end of most sections, as well as the last chapter being dedicated to it which I thought was helpful and refreshing. Like I said before, as someone personally going through this journey it can be emotionally, mentally, and physically draining so it was a bit of a relief knowing I’m not alone in this and how to handle it if I do feel like I need that extra help.

Thank you to Netgally and St. Martin’s Press for the advanced copy of the e-book in exchange for a honest review!

I’m currently in the middle of it: 3 IVF cycles, a first-trimester miscarriage, and one little embryo waiting for me in a few months. This road is exhausting. It’s a mix of deep hope and the kind of heartbreak that asks you to keep going even when you’re empty.

I’ve spent so much time scouring forums and medical journals just trying to find an answer that makes sense. Dr. Lucky’s book is the first thing I’ve found that feels like both a medical goldmine and a warm hug.

Why this book is different:

It meets you where you are: I love how it’s broken down. If you’re just starting out, read the section on supplements (and what’s actually a scam). If you’re at a clinic, use her "questions to ask" list—I literally took notes from it for my own appointments.

It validates the "Loss Club": Being 1 in 4 is a lonely statistic. The section on loss was so meaningful to me; I found myself writing in the margins as she explained the "why" behind things that usually feel so random and cruel.

It cuts through the noise: Social media is full of misinformation, but this is real, reliable data presented in a way that doesn’t require a medical degree to understand.

Infertility is a mental health crisis as much as a physical one. If you’re giving yourself injections tonight or holding your breath for a scan: I see you. Dr. Lucky sees you. Please get this book—not just for the facts, but so you don't have to stand alone anymore.

Extremely knowledgeable and empowering. This has approachable writing that easily conveys the complexity of the female reproductive system and the literal crapshoot that is conception. And all while being inclusive of male fertility, IUI/IVF, surrogacy, LGBTQ+ parenthood pathways, and more.

This book had a way of normalizing experiences and level setting expectations which is so important to know as a woman when blame, shame, guilt, etc can easily be apart of the fertility game.

My only hangs ups were that a few parts dragged and were kind of bogged down with so much information or reiteration of information already presented and also wish she had talked about once you DO get pregnant - maternal mortality rate in the U.S. and the negative side affects of pregnancy and unforeseen outcomes when you are in fact pregnant.

If/when I decide to have children, this is a great resource that i’ll be coming back to again and again. Highly recommend.

The Lucky Egg is the clearest, most grounded fertility book I’ve read.

What sets it apart is its ability to synthesise a huge amount of complex, often overwhelming information into something genuinely accessible and empowering. It cuts through the noise, misinformation, and emotional charge that so often surrounds fertility, and instead offers a calm, structured way to think about decisions, timing, and priorities.

Rather than fuelling urgency or fear, the book encourages a strategic, long-term view of fertility, helping readers step back, understand trade-offs, and make choices that align with their broader goals. I found it particularly helpful in reframing how and when to move between retrievals and transfers, and in shifting the focus from “what next?” to “what’s the best overall plan?”

This is a book I would recommend not only to those undergoing IVF, but to anyone who wants to approach their fertility journey with clarity, realism, and confidence. Practical, compassionate, and refreshingly free of hype.

The Lucky Egg was an extremely informative read. As a woman who has started assisted reproductive support, I wish I had had this book in the beginning of my fertility journey. Dr. Lucky Sekhon explains things in such an easy to understand way while still instilling hope, which many medical professionals are not able to do. I really appreciated the breakdown of terminology and explanations that gave information, guidance, and hopefulness. I also liked the play on "egg" for the chapter titles, which I felt was a cute touch on a subject that can naturally feel stressful. This book validated some of the information I've learned during my fertility journey while also teaching me new information. I also like how the author included guidelines on what to look for and avoid in terms of fertility doctors/clinics. I would definitely recommend this book to others.

The Lucky Egg is a genuinely helpful and reassuring fertility guide that feels realistic rather than preachy or overwhelming. It explains fertility in a clear down to earth way without assuming you already know everything or making you feel like you are doing something wrong.

What really stands out is how practical and balanced it is. The advice feels doable and flexible instead of rigid or intimidating and the tone is calm supportive and honest. It also does a great job acknowledging the emotional side of trying to conceive which makes it feel far more human than most fertility books.

Overall this is a book I would strongly recommend to anyone on a fertility journey. It is informative comforting and easy to come back to and it feels like guidance from someone who actually understands what you are going through. I cannot recommend this guide enough! I only wish I discovered it sooner.

The "LUCKY EGG" came into my life at exactly the right moment. Navigating fertility at an older age while coping with a recent loss has been emotionally exhausting - but this book met me with compassion, understanding, and hope. it didn't just provide information; it offered emotional support, validation, and space to heal.
What I appreciated most how gently and honesty it addressed both the physical and emotional aspects of fertility. it reminded me that my journey is still meaningful, still worthy, and not defined by timelines or outcomes. Reading this felt like sitting with someone who truly understands the heartbreak, uncertainty, and resilience that come with trying to conceive after loss
this book became more than a guide - it became part of my healing. I would highly recommend it to anyone navigating fertility challenges, especially those doing so in later in life or after loss.
its comforting, empowering, and deeply needed

This book was very well-written, but I was not expecting such heavy discussions of infertility procedures throughout multiple chapters. I really liked the chapters that addressed the science behind conception as well as how one can prepare their body to conceive naturally as well as addressing when to seek medical advice if things are not going as planned. Her bringing up the mental and emotional considerations of conception were a nice touch and are often overlooked. While the chapters explaining alternative methods of conception were interesting, I am personally not interested in pursuing those methods, so I found myself struggling to get through all the information. I also found some chapters to be repetitive with the same information I had read previously. I’m glad I gave it a chance, but overall it was just ok to me.

This book could not have come to me at a more perfect time as someone that has started considering pregnancy. I immediately dived in interested in learning more about fertility and pregnancy overall.

Paired with the ALC which is narrated by Dr. Sekhon, you really feel as if you're talking to a friend and getting honest facts. It helped shape my perspective on conception and so many different aspects about the process that you don't typically get from school or even doctors.

I will be recommending this book to everyone I know as I feel it breaks down the entire process really well and is important for women's health.

Thank you to Lucky Sekhon, St. Martin's Press, and Macmillan Audio for this eARC and ALC.

Picked up this book because I am currently on my own TTC journey with my husband. This journey has not gone as quickly as we had planned, and we are trying to navigate some different options for fertility treatment. Dr. Lucky breaks down all things female health from cycle tracking, to fertility hormones, drugs, treatments, etc. She also touches on options for expanding families for LGBTQ+ couples and single moms/dads. She made everything so digestible and easy to understand. A bonus - she weaved in a lot of mental health support into her book and practice which was so great since the TTC period can be a lot to handle mentally. Totally recommend for anyone on a TTC journey, or anyone who is more interested in women’s reproductive health in general.

5/5 stars – Essential, empowering fertility guide!
The Lucky Egg is the book I wish we had sooner. It breaks down complex fertility topics (AMH, ovarian reserve, IVF, egg freezing, donor options, and more) with clarity, compassion, and no-nonsense honesty. Dr. Lucky’s warm, inclusive voice—***backed by science and real stories (including her own)***—makes you feel seen and supported, whether you’re just starting out, facing challenges, or exploring alternative paths.
It’s optimistic yet realistic, covers mental health beautifully, and empowers without false promises. A must-read for anyone on the fertility journey (or supporting someone who is).

Incredibly comprehensive overview of fertility, infertility, and potential treatments given a variety of issues. Dr. Sekhon provides case studies from her practice, lab results based examples, and references medical studies to explain the fertility-based issues that bring readers to her book. Some sections are skippable based on what's relevant to the reader, but the text overall is a worthy read for anyone who is preparing for fertility treatment, considering it as an option, or is thinking about waiting to start a family. I certainly wish I'd had a book like this to reference when I wasn't so close to the end of the fertile phase of life.

While personally going through the world of infertility, IVF, and embryo transfer, this book makes you feel seen and understood. It walks you through the entire process — from the absolute beginning of the TTC process, to the good the bad and the ugly of the infertility world. As someone who has failed two euploid transfers thus far, I loved the chapter on the recurrent failure so I felt prepared going to my doctor appt before FET #3. I knew what questions to ask and what tests to ask for. I also loved the last chapter on mental health — something else that often suffers in this process. This book is incredible. Everyone going through this journey should read it.

If you are just starting your fertility journey or exploring IUI/IVF, this book is a great fit for you. It provides a lot of details and statistics behind how fertility works. Additionally provides details around IUI/IVF process which can make it seem less scary.

However, if you are looking for alternatives outside of IUI/IVF, or looking for advice on unexplained infertility - this book may not be the best fit for you/may contain information you already researched and explored.

Overall very informative if you are early in the fertility journey.
