Waking the Echoes of Fate

Rate this book
Waking the Echoes of Fate is a heart-wrenching, dark mythic fantasy romance.

Fate has forsaken her.
A cursed power calls to her.
He will betray everything to save her.

Perfect for fans of romantasy, Norse mythology, and dark love stories cursed by fate.

Thyrvi was raised on sagas—of gods who walked the realms, of wolves that swallowed the sun, and oaths that bound even fate itself.

But she never imagined the echoes of those stories would live within her.

When remnants of a long-buried power begin to stir and whispers from Yggdrasil reach out to claim her, Thyrvi is pulled into a storm of prophecy, betrayal, and blood.

Bound to a man with secrets of his own and drawn to him in ways she cannot explain, she must navigate a world where trust is dangerous—and love, even more so.

As the life she once knew crumbles beneath the weight of hidden truths, Thyrvi must decide who she is and what she’s willing to become.

Because some destinies are written in ash.

I had the pleasure of being a Beta Reader for Waking the Echoes of Fate and let me tell you... I devoured this.

This book is face paced enough to keep my attention, while having detailed world building as you go learning alongside the characters (1st person POV).

The author has created lovable characters that are relatable, easy to connect with and make it easy to become invested in their story.

Read this book if you love:

"You looked like a goddess, standing there, staring daggers into my soul, and I knew the rest of my life would be spent in worship of you."

I received a digital ARC copy of this book in exchange for an honest review and I can honestly say you NEED this on your TBR.

EDIT: it’s been a week since I finished this book and I’m still thinking about it. I always know that’s a sign of a good book!

I am very much a vibe reader and have only just dipped my toe into Romantasy novels inspired by Norse mythology. I loved this book, I read it in 24 hours and could not put it down!

I adored our FMC, Thyrvi, she is complex and learning about a world she has been thrust into but she’s determined and fiery too. You’ll quickly fall in love with all the characters, they are well written and quickly become a found family that you are connected to. At first I was worried about who I could trust, as I could feel there was a twist coming at some point.

I enjoyed the world-building and it’s done well throughout; making it easy to imagine and create the story as you read. The plot is really well paced and keeps you wanting to read constantly to find out what is happening next, whilst also not being unnecessarily dragged out. The only thing I wished there was more of was more scenes with our FMC & MMC, I feel like some of their journey together could be more detailed. The ending has a twist I wasn’t expecting and made me super emotional but also leaves much unanswered and so I need the next book… yesterday!

It’s a totally different world & story but having the mountains and the dwarves as part of the story gave me real nostalgic Lord of The Rings vibes in the best way.

I don’t like to summarise a book based on tropes but it can be helpful to decide if a book is next on your TBR.

✨ Norse mythology
✨ He falls first
✨ Touch her and you die
✨ Found family
✨ Gods & prophecies
✨ FMC discovering her power
✨ Animal companion
✨ Arranged marriage

“You don’t have to be strong dear, you just have to have courage…”

“No, because I’m selfish and I don’t want to live in a world you’re not part of”

“She’s the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen standing there are staring daggers into my soul like a goddess, and I know the rest of my life will be spent in worship of her”

✨ ARC Review ✨

RATING: 4.5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Spice: 2.5 🌶️🌶️

From the very beginning, I was hooked. I loved the characters and the world-building—it was detailed enough to pull me in without ever feeling overwhelming.

One thing that really stood out was the pacing. Instead of following the characters day by day like a lot of fantasy books, this one sometimes jumped ahead by a week or more. At first it felt different, but it kept things moving and gave the story a rhythm that worked.

So much happened in just over 300 pages that the author could have easily stretched it into two or three books. But I loved that she didn’t. Every time I thought the story might wrap up, it kept going, pulling me even deeper into the world instead of stopping at the first big climax.

I loved watching Thyrvi, the female main character, grow into her strength and identity as the story went on. The romance was another highlight—their bond and the way their relationship developed felt so genuine and left me wanting more. The side characters were also fantastic, with enough depth and personality to make me care about them just as much.

And the twists! I read a lot of fantasy, and I usually have a pretty good idea of what’s coming, but this one kept surprising me. The ending had me flipping back and forth, convinced my copy had cut off early—but nope, it just ends on a massive cliffhanger that leaves you desperate for the next book.

Overall, this was an exciting, surprising, and addictive read. With strong characters, a gripping romance, and a plot that never let me go, I cannot wait for the sequel.

Thank you A. Elliott for the ARC! I loved it. I had so much fun reading this from start to finish. The book is fast paced and packs a punch. You won’t be bored. The writing is sharp and the FMC, Thyrvi is refreshing and relatable. That ending… I can’t wait to see how the story unfolds.

ARC REVIEW - Thank you to the author for allowing me an ARC of the beauty to review.

4.5 stars rounded up for Goodreads.

This is a fast paced novel but not to fast where you have no idea as to what is going on. The world building is simple but in a nice way so you know where you are, what the history is behind it but not going off track. The small details with who comes along throughout the story are amazing to really help the visualization come to life as you read which I appreciate it.

The author created amazing characters from the MFC, MMC and even the side characters that are present lovable and tie the whole story together.

Read this book if you love:

• Norse Mythology Reimagined
• Chosen one with a twist
• Found Family
• Animal Companion
• Cursed Fate
• Touch her & die
• Arranged Marriage
• He falls first
• Fate vs Free Will

"You looked like a goddess, standing there, staring daggers into my soul, and I knew the rest of my life would be spent in worship of you." - the best quote of the book

The ending has me on the worst cliff hanger of my life. I cannot wait until book 2 to see where do we go from here with everyone and well everything. The details to how everyone is brought together and little hints of what is to come next really ties this story together. I had a great time reading it and couldn't put it down. Thank you again to the author for this opportunity I cannot wait until book 2!

First off, I want to thank A. Elliot for allowing me the opportunity to receive an ARC copy of this book.

Thyrvi is our FMC. She is strong, fierce, and so protective over those she loves. She is an extremely relatable character on so many levels! Her character development throughout the story continues to grow and she gains such a beautiful confidence she lacked from the beginning. And let’s not forget to mention Gaelen, our MMC. -what a MAN- He is strong, selfless, loving and not what you would expect from a prince. He cares very little for his title. The way he loves Thyrvi and respects her decisions whether he likes them or not. That alone speaks volumes on his character.

Almost every single character you meet in this story is lovable, even the grumpy friends Thyrvi makes along the way. Oh and the world building? Insanely good. It was easy to follow, fast paced, and so enjoyable. It does end on a cliffhanger/plot twist and now I’m going to be on the edge of my seat waiting for the next book to come!! I cannot wait for the next adventure!!

•Cursed fate
•Arranged marriage
•Touch her and die
•Norse Mythology reimagined

Worth the read. However, I shall deny the ending 😅

Thyrvi has so much to learn, but she is so resilient and I have no doubt she will soar in the rest of the series.

For a shorter read there is a lot unfolding. I have high hopes some more questions are answered in book 2. This kept a steady pace from beginning to end.

If you're looking for your next romantic fantasy with arranged marriage, Norse mythology, and bada$$ magic, this book is worth the read.

AHHH I NEED BOOK 2 NOWWWW. It was everything I’ve been wanting. Fast paced, easy world building, main characters that aren’t teenagers, strong communication, lovable side characters (who actually had substance), and a new take on Norse mythology (or at least to me it’s new). 10/10 highly recommend. That cliffhanger tho.. 👀 my goodness

✨Arc Review✨
Thank you to the author A. Elliott for sending me this digital ARC in exchange for an honest review.

-All thoughts and opinions are my own.

A Thoughtful and Atmospheric Fantasy That Echoes Long After the Final Page

A. Elliott’s Waking the Echoes of Fate is a beautifully written and emotionally resonant novel that stands out in the crowded field of fantasy literature. From the very first page, Elliott weaves a narrative that feels ancient and timeless, deeply rooted in myth yet refreshingly original in execution.

The story follows a protagonist who is not only navigating a world shaped by forgotten magic and lost history, but also facing a deeply personal journey of identity, grief, and self-discovery. Elliott writes with a lyrical grace, using evocative prose that never feels overwrought. Every chapter is imbued with a sense of quiet wonder and melancholy, and the result is a book that feels both intimate and epic in scope.

One of the greatest strengths of the novel is its world-building. Rather than relying on elaborate info-dumps or overly complex systems, Elliott lets the world unfold organically through atmosphere, character interaction, and memory. The setting is steeped in mystery—there’s a lived-in quality to the history, as though the land itself remembers what its people have forgotten. It’s subtle, but powerful.

The characters are another highlight. The central figure is layered and compelling, vulnerable without ever appearing weak, and driven by questions that feel deeply human. Supporting characters, while not always in the spotlight, are distinct and meaningful in their roles, often serving as mirrors or foils that enrich the protagonist’s arc. The emotional depth is quietly profound—this isn’t a story of constant battles or high-stakes politics, but rather one of personal stakes, internal struggle, and slow-burning revelations.

That said, the novel’s introspective tone and deliberate pacing may not be for every reader. There are stretches where the momentum lingers in reflection, and while this deepens the emotional texture, it occasionally slows the narrative drive. Readers looking for constant action or grand spectacle may find those parts less engaging. However, for those willing to sit with the story, to let it breathe and unfold on its own terms, the rewards are significant.

In all, Waking the Echoes of Fate is a rich, meditative, and quietly powerful beginning to what promises to be an exceptional series. A. Elliott has crafted a tale that lingers—not with explosive twists or cliffhangers, but with echoes of something older, wiser, and more deeply felt. A compelling read for fans of introspective, character-driven fantasy who appreciate a story that dares to take its time.

I’m very much looking forward to continuing the journey in the next installment.

🧝‍♀️ Chosen One (With a Twist) – The protagonist has a deeper connection to fate than they first realize, but the story subverts the classic "destined hero" trope with nuance and emotional depth.

🕰️ Ancient Prophecy / Forgotten Past – A long-lost history plays a critical role in the present, and uncovering it is part of the journey.

🔮 Echoes of a Lost Magic – Magic exists, but it's faded, hidden, or long dormant—its return feels mysterious and earned.

🧩 Slow-Burn Mystery – Rather than high action, the plot unfolds like a puzzle, with pieces coming together gradually and atmospherically.

💔 Tragic Backstory – Our lead carries emotional wounds that shape their actions and relationships—adding gravitas to the narrative.

🏞️ Lush World-Building Through Atmosphere – The world isn’t explained; it’s felt. Readers learn about the setting through mood, memory, and subtle details.

Phenomenal.
A perfectly detailed story on duty and love and the gods role in the creation of times before, during and after. You will meet a group of fiery, loyal and honest people but mostly you'll fall in love with Gaelen and Thyrvi.
Thyrvi came into the story line quick with her own shadows and demons to follow her - despite being of royal blood, people of Thurisa aren't as welcoming. She's accepted loneliness and that it may be her only companion. Until her brother the Jarl of Thurisa arranged a marriage for her and a prince from Kanaz - one she's never heard of or met but she will do anything for her kingdom. Meet Gaelen, the prince, playing his role and for that of duty and love; hiding his own secrets as well. Agreeing to the marriage, Thryvi finds curiosity in a stranger from Kanaz and finds herself yearning for him. After a reveal, the twist - Thryvi and Gaelen hand tie and that's when things become clear. Gaelens secrets come forth as does Thryvi's and throwing them into a bond, an alliance forged through acceptance and protection, with instant attraction to each other. A need for each other. An untimely and unexpected turn of events has Gaelen returning to Kanaz. After no correspondence, Thryvi runs into him, but it's not him. He's rougher, different until she realizes he's not Gaelen but in fact his brother who comes bearing bad news leaving her stomach coiling. Stitching a plan together to undo the mess made to protect her, they travel to Kanaz under guise and cover. Retrieving what she lost after she had only found it. When they are clear of Kanaz, it's clear that things aren't as they seem and an intervention is needed before chaos is unleashed upon their world. They come across what they seek, a story long forgotten and unproven to still exist. Hidden in the new findings of their temporary sanctuary all while managing the task at hand and balancing his feelings, Gaelen remains respectful, letting Thryvi come to him but what he doesn't know is she's scared to let anyone close until she is forced to face those feelings head on and spout them out in the face of her love to stop him from spiraling and using Yule to let her go.
Forging on the path to stop the evil lurking and making it's way to unleash things locked away, Gaelen and Thryvi forge on and find themselves at the very center of the future foretold that one night so long ago. But things don't go as planned and Thryvi is left crying at the destruction that lay before her. Forced to move forward despite her reluctance, she moves. Taking what's left of her old, present and new self. Heart in her hands and anger in her heart, she cannot let the feelings desolation and loss overcome her.

A great piece of work that leaves you begging for book two. With lore and gods woven into the story of love, betrayal, acceptance, protection, new friendships and bonds comes a story that will have you captive to the storyline. Can't wait to see what happens in the coming stories.

Thanks to the author for the chance to read this for you, it was magical.

Spice: 🌶️ 🌶️

A romantasy that actually feels new? Yes, please. No element-bending or overloaded magic systems that have become saturated in the genre. Just a raw, wind-bitten world that feels lived in. Elliot gives you only what you need, when you need it, so the setting unfolds naturally instead of dumping lore in your lap.

Told in first person, we follow Thyrvi, who accepts an arranged marriage to a Kanaz prince to serve her kingdom, which she does with clear-eyed maturity. Once she handfasts with Prince Gaelen, the attraction is instant, but the love is a true slow burn (at least on her part). Both of them have secrets, and when those cards hit the table (fairly early), they choose trust. An actual partnership. The book looks at the usual romantasy tropes and basically says, “Not today.” I loved that.

My favorite section hits around the 80% mark, when we meet fantasy races you rarely see in romantasy but that absolutely belong in a Nordic setting. They’re a delight, and I’m crossing my fingers we see much more of them in book two. (Pleeeeeeease!)

About that…this one ends on a cliffhanger. As someone who’s all for suffering and tragedy, I wouldn’t mind the sequel leaning darker. But that’s just my little dark-fantasy heart talking, so feel free to flick that wish away.

Tiny craft note: Those first flirt scenes would hit harder with a few physical cues—a touch, a look—to ground the spark.

Pacing-wise, this moves fast (around 350 pages), and conflicts tend to resolve quickly. It’s the kind of book I would’ve read in a day if life didn’t get the way. If you want a fresh-feeling romantasy with Norse mythology, a mature central couple, slow-burn romance, and light heat, this is an easy recommend.

Thank you to Tales and Teacups and A. Elliot for the ARC! All opinions are my own.

-"Trust to no one. Those were the last words my mother ever spoke to me."
Girl...you literally got me at the first two sentence in the prolog....

Waking the Echoes of Fate book is Gaelenystic fantasy romance inspired by North mythology where fate has forsaken and cursed powers looking for its rightful owner. I got sucked into this addicting world instantly. This was enjoyable reading!!! A.Elliot did such a mazing job creating efficient world where every charters have purpose and magic is not overly complicated and easy to follow. Her world is not deluded by unnecessary story fluff or side characters. Plot was nicely paced and kept me on my toes at all the time. To be honest.. I don’t even know how she did it in only 255 pages. This book could have been easily 800-900 pages long. Overall solid start two new series!!! My original rating was 4.5⭐️.. bumped to 5⭐️!!!
This story follows arrange marriage between FMC, Tryrvi and MMC, Gaelen handsome prince from Kanaz kingdom. Love ....Gaelen..... !!! The romance between this two...chefs kiss!!! Event though they are both driven by agenda in this marriage I find their relationship captivating and compelling. I love that there was no animosity toward each other instead they were just trying to learn how to trust each other and make best out of this situation. Where do I start with... Gaelen such a sweet heart character!!! Even though he is gloom and doom ... he is selfless and willing to give everything to people who he loves and care for until there is nothing to give. From very beginning Gaelen was head over heels over Tryrvi....and I’m not mad at all!!!! Actually somehow insta-love works and makes sense in this book. I actually understudy why he who’d instantly fall in love with her. I also really enjoyed watching Tryrvin florist from unconfident young girl to level headed, rational and confident young female. Her story kept me on the edge of my sit from very firs sentence in the prolog to last in this book.
There are many parts of this book that fall in love with...but most favorite part is towards the end about 70-80%.... ( yes...end of the book)......i'm absolutely obsessed with it!!!! Definitely bumped this book rating from 4.5 ⭐️to 5⭐️!! That is actually when North mythology came to play. I’m not going to spoil it...you just gonna have to read it!!!! Ending......I did not see it coming....at all!!! Cliffhanger or story twist....what ever you want to call it.... AMAZING!!!! I literally gasp for air.......nooooooooooo....!!!! I need book 2 like ....now..!! Cannot wait to discover more of this world!!!!

Special thank you to author A. Elliofffor for letting me read this book before it hits the book stores!! I was one of the ArC readers... and this is my honest review!!!!

Book Two, please! WOW. Beware the cliffhanger from Hel.

I really love Gaelan and Thyrvi, but Fenrir is my favorite. The lore from Norse mythology played a big role in this book, but it is done so well. For some reason, the stories in Norse mythology always leaves me to my wild imagination. It keeps me perfectly engaged and foaming at the mouth for more. The pacing felt a little rushed in some spots, but for me it was minor enough that it didn't really bother me, and a book under 300 pages is probably bound to feel that way regardless. The found family reminds me a lot of my circle of friends. Loyal and to die for. THE NIGHTMARES. Very scary, very sleep paralysis demon, very mindful. 😏 I love this book and I am really excited to see what happens next! Thank you, A. Elliot for allowing me to arc read for you, but that cliffhanger is BRUTAL. I will be quietly stewing and suffering until book two. I know it can be nerve wracking waiting for reviews, but in my opinion you knocked this out of the park.

Waking the Echoes of Fate is now available and if you love Norse mythology like I do, you should jump first, think later into the world of Thurisa.

“You know the story of how the gods created our world? And why they locked Loki in the old one?” “His scheme went too far right, costing the gods their power?”

The world building, the unrequited love, the pining, the forced marriage, he falls first and the beloved one bed trope. This book has everything you could ask for and on top of that the author delivers more by giving an accurate portrayal of Norse mythology. I was hesitant as soon as it started mentioning Loki and Odin but as the book went on my excitement grew. The way I’m devastated that the book ended I can’t wait to read the next one.

Meet Thyrvi she is destined to be the key but for what. As she is plagued by nightmares The goddess of Night protects her. Left with a secret only her mother told her on her death bed she must unravel the mystery to save the world. There is so much I want to say but it will spoil the book. If you love dark romance, defying fate and the Gods/Goddesses and Norse mythology this book is for you!

Overall I enjoyed this book! I love Norse mythology so I loved seeing all of the lore and stories about the Gods, especially since the main character's life is heavily affected and influenced by the Gods. My favorite part of this story was seeing the main character's dark abilities gifted by the gods and how she worked with them. I also enjoyed the romance between the two main characters. They seem to balance each other nicely and I really enjoyed their banter.

With this being a shorter book and so fast paced I didn't feel completely immersed in the world or really invested in the characters yet. I wish the characters and world were a little more developed in this book BUT the set up for the second one is excellent and I can't wait to see what comes next after that ending!

Thank you to Tales & Teacups and the author for an advanced copy!

Waking the Echoes of Fate follows Thryvi as she journeys to fulfill the fate she was unknowingly saddled with on her mother’s death bed, while also discovering all that she is capable of.

This was a fun and fast-paced read that was easy to digest. It is not a slow-burn, very much an insta-love romance for those that love that trope!

There wasn’t a lot of conflict that wasn’t easily resolved within an immediately following chapter so this would be a great read for those that are new to fantasy or are impatient and wanting instant satisfaction!

I had the pleasure of being chosen to read this book before its official publishing on September 23.

If you enjoy Norse mythology and action this book is for you. It’s fast paced and engaging. I usually read romantasy that is enemies to lovers with morally gray MMC’s. This book turned that around on me because he falls first and totally reminds me of a “golden retriever” boyfriend. There are gods, witches, creatures, dwarves…definitely a mix! This was a quick read and a great book.

I can’t wait for the next one after that ending! Enjoy!

The FMC in this book is refreshing! She is kind of head-in-the-sand regarding this fate that was put in her at the age of 7. She also recognizes her isolation and a deep rooted need for adventure. Her arranged marriage provides just the opportunity for her to escape her loneliness and continue to avoid her fate…or so she thinks.
The MMC…Instant attraction, no slow burn here. And ya know what? I am here for it! We do not always need an enemies to lovers slow burn. These two were instantly attracted, which made the arranged marriage all the more convenient . I still think there is much to uncover with Gaelen and his family’s connection with Loki and this door and key. “The trickster’s vessel”?

I would love to see more backstory in the upcoming books about Thokkra, the king, and if they are working for a god.

This is a 350pg read so it is action packed, easy to read, magical, steady pacing, and spicy and yearning. Solid plot that has a great place to grow for future books.

TROPES/Themes:
Nors Mythology centered
Gods against their creation?
Arranged marriage
Fast Burn, but slow burn love realization
Found family
Touch her and die
Fated to be together? (This is me guessing/hoping, not implied in the book) humans not fae.

2.5/5 - rounding up to 3

Thank you so much to the author for an advanced e-book in exchange for an honest review!

I was really quite torn with how many stars to rate this book. The prologue had me interested and intrigued right off the bat, but after that and for at least the first 50% of the book it was difficult to get invested. We learn about our FMC’s magic in the prologue, but then it’s not mentioned again until about 30% into the book, and I wish we would’ve seen some of it well before that point. It almost felt like her magic was just forgotten about. There were parts at that just felt a little cheesy or over done to me. The setting had me a little confused because with it being Norse inspired I was picturing Vikings and Viking apparel, but then it would have really modern terms for clothing like “leggings and a sweater.” At times transitions between sections and chapters sometimes felt sudden and like it was happening in the middle of a thought or scene. I also felt like things were happening fast and that I didn’t have time to become connected to the characters, or to feel the characters connection with each other.

But then the last 30%-40% things really picked up! Things started to feel a little less cheesy or over done, and for the most part transitions between chapters and sections got smoother. We also get introduced to an interesting race (I won’t say who/what they are so that you can read to find out for yourselves) of people as well as an animal companion which really added to the story. The ending also left me on the edge of my seat wanting more!

I think I would’ve enjoyed the beginning more if maybe it was a little longer and we got to see our characters take more time to get to know each other and their relationships grow. It is an arranged marriage trope so of course they get married per their arrangement, but I wish maybe it was just a little less “insta love” and more like we got to watch their love develop more over time. I suppose that is a personal preference, but it all felt very rushed to me. I think this book would’ve
benefited from being longer. It would’ve helped it feel less rushed, we could’ve seen the characters bonds with each other grow, and I think the reader would’ve connected more with the characters if there was more time with them too, which would in turn make the ending even more impactful to the reader

Overall, I enjoyed the premise of the book and the last 30%-40% really left me curious about what’s going to happen especially after that ending!

If you’re wanting a fast paced read with an interesting premise and setting I think you may like this book!

I received an advanced reader’s copy of this book and was not paid for my review.

Waking the Echoes of Fate is a heart-wrenching, dark mythic fantasy romance, perfect for fans of Norse mythology and love stories cursed by fate.

Raised on sagas of gods and wolves, Thyrvi never imagined the echoes of those stories would live within her. When a long-buried power begins to stir and whispers from Yggdrasil reach out to claim her, she is pulled into a storm of prophecy and betrayal.

Bound to a secretive man she is drawn to in ways she cannot explain, Thyrvi must navigate a world where trust is dangerous, and love, even more so. As hidden truths are revealed, she must decide what she’s willing to become, because some destinies are written in ash.

Well, okay then. I’m writing this review to try and get over the tantrum I just threw because this book FINISHED ON A CLIFFHANGER. I swear, it's not that bad - not at all - just bad enough to make me hurt my hand trying to force my Kindle to keep swiping for pages that weren't there.

Right, professional face on.

The book starts really nicely, teasing you with hints of things to come and not quite giving you everything you want immediately. Which, if you're anything like me, will infuriate you enough to start speed-reading for answers. But I love how well the author pulls you into this world; before you know it, you're hooked and obsessed with all the characters. I loved the found family aspect, I’m always a sucker for big, burly chosen brothers who can wind you up, vanquish your enemies, and be hidden softies all at once.

The story took some interesting turns that I absolutely did not see coming. Trying to avoid spoilers is really hard, but I just want to say - DWARVES! I absolutely think Dwarves are an underrepresented magical race, and I was so excited to find them in this book.

If you’re looking for a fast-paced fantasy romance based in Norse mythology with an arranged marriage and world-traipsing adventures, get thee to this book on release day.

⭐⭐⭐⭐ - Oh also, one more word. Fenrir.

✨ ARC Review: Waking the Echoes of Fate by A. Elliott ✨
Release date: 23rd September 2025

⭐️ Rating: 4/5 stars

This novel pulled me into a captivating world of Norse mythology, deities, and grand adventures—and I savored every moment. 😍 Thyrvi is a compelling heroine, burdened by childhood trauma, a mysterious stone from her mother, and the daunting role of key bearer. Her authentic voice makes it impossible not to root for her as she embraces her power.

The world-building was a highlight for me as A. Elliott successfully blends Norse mythology with original lore, crafting a plot that feels fresh and accessible. Each revelation unfolds naturally, and was never overwhelming (no random info dumps). From the bustling port of Thurisa to the majestic Kenaz and hidden dwarven mountains, every location feels alive! ✨

Loved the character dynamic and relationship between Thyrvi and Gaelen. Their witty exchanges and his loyalty create such fun and engaging moments. However, as a fan of slow-burn romances, I wished for more tension before their feelings developed. The romance progressed a bit quickly, which lessened the emotional impact for me. This is a personal preference—I’m a sucker who yearns for that tantalising tension and angst.❤️‍🔥

Plot-wise, this book was on point 👌 . With nightmare-magic from Nott, risky journeys, and shocking discoveries about gods and destiny, I was constantly on edge. There's never a dull moment as each page drew you deeper into Thyrvi’s journey.

And then there’s the ending… absolutely devastating. It's the kind of cliffhanger that leaves you scrolling through your Kindle in disbelief. 😭 The anticipation for the second book has me yearning for more.

If you're a book lover seeking a mythology-rich romantasy with a fierce heroine, immersive world-building, and an emotionally devastating ending, it’s definitely worth adding this to your TBR list.

A mythology-inspired book with a cryptic prophecy (and an arranged marriage to boot!)? Sign. Me. Up!

I'm a big fan of mythology-inspired books, but most of the ones I've read revolve around Greek mythology, so I was excited to dive into something new. I think it was helpful to have some knowledge of Norse mythology going in, but any unfamiliar references are easily looked up.

If you like fast-paced narratives, then this book is for you! It is a fairly quick read, and every scene drives the plot forward. And boy, does a lot happen! (I actually read this book twice in a row because I wanted to make sure I absorbed everything.) I would have liked to have seen more development of some of the relationships at the beginning, specifically between the FMC and MMC pre-handfasting, and between the FMC and Soren. This would have affected the pacing, though, so it's kind of a trade off.

I received an unproofed copy, and there were some grammar/spelling/punctuation errors that pulled me out of the story, but I expect those will have been addressed in the final product. Overall, the writing is quite strong. I was sucked in from the very beginning of the prologue! Thyrvi has a distinctive voice, and all of the characters who are supposed to be likeable are. I especially enjoyed Thyrvi's relationship with Fen.

Some aspects of the story reminded me of Tolkien's The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings; I know he took inspiration from Northern European mythology, too, so it was interesting to compare the direction each author took.

I did not see the ending coming and am impatiently waiting for the next book!

Thank you to the author and Tales & Teacups for providing this advance copy in exchange for an honest review. I can't wait to see where this series goes!

What would you do if life felt boring and an arranged marriage was offered to you in exchange for an alliance with the kingdom? Would you decide to marry the strange second prince that travels all the time? That’s exactly what Thyrvi does in “Waking the Echoes of Fate” by A. Elliott. From a young age, she’s been gifted a powerful relic and an ability to help keep her safe from those who would steal it from her. As she embarks on this new journey, she discovers how many myths and legends are actually real. Thyrvi and the man she is now bound to go on a journey to figure out exactly what is going on and what they need to do to stop chaos from breaking free.

Elliott explores Norse mythology with this story and what some of the myths may mean. We get to know more about Fenrir and the goddess Nott as well as some magical elements. While there isn’t a ton of deep diving into most of the mythology, we do get little nuggets here and there. As far as worldbuilding, while we don’t explore a lot of stuff, what we do is done really well. I was able to picture the scenery around them throughout their journey.

Even the characters were very well written. They all had depth to them and some background so as to understand motivations for their actions. I also felt like the dialogue between the characters was realistic and done well.

My only complaint was that I felt like we needed a bit more story. I really loved the writing style and the way Elliott portrayed the story. However, I wanted so much more because of how much I was enjoying the story.

“Waking the Echoes of Fate” by A. Elliott is a genre blend of romance, fantasy, and mythology retelling. This is recommended for an adult audience as there is major cursing and moderate open door bedroom scenes. This was a really good read! I can't wait until the next book comes out!

I received this book as an ARC and all opinions are my own.
Thank you A. Elliott for this!

Waking the Echoes of Fate by A. Elliott is a new take on Norse Mythology.
It follows the FMC, Thyrvi, a girl that had grown up with a forgotten power, one that she tries to bury. But like most, fated for greatness Thyrvi is pulled into a world of myth and sagas, where She finds herself on a quest of betrayal, prophecy and blood.
she finds herself in an arranged marriage, and Gaelen, her new husband, is determined to stand by her side no matter what.
together they follow a propecy that leads them to Yggdrasil. Where fate and love collide in an epic cliffhanger that will leave you NEEDING more.

* Touch her and die
* Animal Companions
* Arrange marriage
* HE falls first
* Found family
* Chosen one
* Crazy plot twist
* Starcrossed lovers

This book was devoured! I loved it! it had everything I love, viking vibes, arranged marriages, truthful heroine, who knows her strengths and sword fighting isn’t one of them. The cliffhangers (makes you read it several times to figure out what happened but then realizing you NEED the next book.
5 stars!!!

My first ARC review! Thank you to A.Elliott for sending me a copy before the release date to read and review 🫶🏻 This was so fun and I’ll definitely be requesting more ARCs soon!

First of all this book is so fast paced! Things started happening immediately and the story keeps progressing throughout. There’s no chapters that feel like filler. This is a super easy bingeable read. (I’ve been busy so ignore the fact it took me a week to read it🫣)

I loved the Norse mythology aspect to the book as well. I don’t know a lot about Norse mythology, but I know enough that I understood all the references so it added another interesting layer to the book. I will say though that if you don’t have any knowledge of Norse mythology, the book may fall a little flat for you.

This book was also hilarious at times. Some of the one liners in this book are amazing. I love when a book has good humour, it humanises the characters and always makes me like them more.

I didn’t love the writing style of this book. It reads like: this happpened, then I did this, then this happened, then they did this. It’s a little monotonous. This got much better as the book went on but at the start it bothered me.

This book definitely has some insta lust/love which I don’t like. It’s not a trope I like in any book, that’s just my personal preference. It’s not the most extreme instance of it, but it still bothers me.

Overall I really enjoyed this book and will definitely be reading the sequel, I think it’s going to be amazing!
Thank you again A.Elliott 🤍

4.5 ⭐️

I devoured this novel! A. Elliot seamlessly blends Norse mythology into her story and the world building unfolds organically throughout the book. I love how this book played like a movie in my head and put me right alongside the characters.

The characters are well done and drew me into the story. Thyrvi is a woman who knows what she wants and is not afraid to speak her mind (most of the time). Gaelen is fiercely loyal and has a band of friends who are more like brothers. The side characters are so genuine and relatable and I enjoyed them tremendously. I also liked that there were a group of characters you don’t often see in fantasy stories.

The romance didn’t follow your typical fantasy romance tropes, and I’m here for it. Thyrvi accepts an arranged marriage with a man she’s never met, if only for the chance to leave her small village and see more of the world. But her and Gaelen have instant chemistry and their relationship continues to deepen as their story goes on.

The ending is a major cliff-hanger and was absolutely devastating! I’m seriously hoping that’s not how things stay in the next book. There are so many questions left unanswered.

Overall, if you enjoy fast-paced stories and are looking for a refreshing fantasy romance with Lord of the Rings vibes, then this one is for you.
