As a child, Seren wanted to be a simple farmer, like her father, but witches stole that dream when they murdered him and burned her village to the ground. Desperately waiting for her chance at revenge, she is presented with an opportunity that would secure her fate. The Royal Army offers Seren the skills she needs to vanquish witches before they can unleash their monsters across the country.
Aiding on her quest is her handsome training partner, Darius, a nobleman who wants to help Seren vanquish the scourge of witches. He would see her dreams fulfilled. But the charming man with sweet dimples is not all he claims to be.
The witches have a leader. A powerful warlock, the Darkbringer who threatens to twist her dreams into a nightmare. It was his fire that consumed her childhood and left her for dead, and it will be his blood on her blade when she honors a promise to her father. The Darkbringer finds her, his silver eyes boring into her when she makes a terrible revelation…
The eradication of witches means the destruction of everything she loves.
This witchy romantasy series is only suitable for those over 18 as it contains mature subject matter and open-door scenes. If you wished Witch Walker and Spark of the Everflame had a baby where the slow burn feels just right and the enemies become lovers and nothing is as it seems, this series is for you.
Sloan writes love through trust and trauma. She also writes open-door spice because romance needs toe-curling steam. Her passion for romance comes from the belief that the world would be a better place if everyone found their fated mate. Fantasy and world-building are the ways she immerses you in a new place that feels familiar, and magic in the bedroom is never off the table.
When she isn’t behind her desk, she’ll be in the garden growing vegetables, or if Canada is buried in snow, she’ll be planning her garden and playing with the dogs. She spends her days with her crux… if you haven’t learned what a crux is, read her complete Dark Aria series. Sloan loves connecting with her readers. You can find her on most social platforms as bvsloanauthor.
Wow. My heart aches, and the emptiness after finishing this book is deafening. I don't even know where to start...
This was a lot slower than I anticipated, BUT SOOO worth it!! Book 1 was WILD RIDE, with shocking twists

Winters Kiss Goodnight by BV Sloan: A Gripping Start to the Starless Night Series
BV Sloan has once again captivated me with Winters Kiss Goodnight, the first entry in her Starless Night series. This book has solidified her place among my must-read authors. Sloan's skillful character development pulls you into Seren's world, making you feel every ounce of her pain, anger, and determination. The emotional depth she creates is incredible; there were times I found myself shouting in frustration at my Kindle, completely absorbed in Seren's journey.
The story opens with Seren, a girl whose simple dream of becoming a farmer is brutally shattered by the witches who murdered her father and obliterated her village. Her quest for revenge takes shape when she joins the Royal Army, where she trains to eradicate the very witches that destroyed her life. Sloan masterfully paces the plot, and while seasoned readers might anticipate certain developments, she skillfully includes unexpected twists that keep you on the edge of your seat.
Supporting Seren in her dangerous quest is Darius, her charming training partner. He’s not just swoon-worthy with his dimpled smile but also harbors secrets that add complexity to their relationship. Their dynamic brings a refreshing blend of camaraderie and tension, making each interaction charged with emotion.
At the heart of the conflict is the Darkbringer, the malevolent warlock whose past actions haunt Seren. As the layers of her story unfold, she grapples with a harrowing realization: pursuing vengeance against the witches might mean sacrificing everything else she holds dear. This moral conflict adds depth to the narrative, allowing readers to explore the devastating consequences of revenge.
Sloan’s writing shines, blending vivid imagery and heartfelt emotion seamlessly. Winters Kiss Goodnight is not just a fantasy novel; it’s an exploration of grief, vengeance, and the quest for identity. This book is a true testament to Sloan’s storytelling abilities, leaving readers eagerly anticipating the next installment. If you’re looking for a gripping tale filled with emotion, unexpected twists, and memorable characters, look no further than Winters Kiss Goodnight. Highly recommended!
Seren is bold, determined, vengeful, haunted, and won't be swayed from her mission to avenge her father and kill witches. She doesn't want the life of nobility, or to settle down or marry, she wants to be a soldier, to train and fight, and get her revenge. Supporting Seren in her journey is her training partner Darius, he's kind, attentive and the caring new friend she needs, but his feelings are greater, and his ambitions are darker, causing tension and conflict for Seren. The plot is layered with mystery, drama, action and revelations. Seren has been taught all witches are evil and must die, but what if the enemies she's been taught to hate aren't the villains, and the threats are closer to home. Then you have the mysterious darkbringer, suspected leader behind the witches chaos, responsible for her father's death, and who keeps tracking her down, yet he's also Seren's saviour and you can feel the undeniable chemistry brewing. I am so invested in the prophecies, hidden powers, twisted dynamics, character tension, and the need for Seren to defeat her true enemies. Sloan writes the best dark stories that grip you, pull at your heartstrings, leave you shocked, broken and desperate for more, and have you cursing at the villains. Bring on book 2!
🏹 "I accept you as you are, Seren DeBoer. Determined. Passionate. And a little vengeful. I won't stand in your way"
I was lucky to be given the chance to review Winter’s Kiss Goodnight of my own accord, through being offered an eARC.
This is another series that I am invested in. There is so much more to learn about this world, and Seren is just the character to follow and learn along with. The foreshadowing and possibilities of where this story will go has me eagerly awaiting the next book.
(I received a copy of this book from the author, but the review is my own)
This book starts a bit slower paced than I’m used to, but when it picks up, it’s full steam ahead! Our FMC has issues lol that she struggles to get past in this book, but she does grow a bit, but I’m very much looking forward to her growth in book two! I love our MMC and can’t wait to learn more about his story in the next book! This book has love, betrayal, twists, bits of “who did this” depicted is several different ways, loyalty, familial love, and past trauma. I found the trigger warns at the end of the book, so make sure you check those out before you read, if you need them. I am very much looking forward to the next book and see where this story takes us!
Are you still hung up on The Princess Bride, love the villain, and can't stand men who think women are only good enough to be wives and heir makers?
Wait til you read this book! I kept getting major Princess Bride vibes and found myself yelling I freaking knew it multiple times when BV Sloan threw another twist at me.
Seren is the daughter of a simple farmer but after the witches murder her father she is raised as a noblewoman to their lands highest Priest. She vowed revenge on all witches and the Enaros that helped kill her father so she enlists as a soldier where she makes a new friend Darius.
Darius is also a noble but she doesn't know what family he is from. They become close and he vows to help her achieve all her dreams.
Seren's cousin Nissa was raised as her sister by her stepfather they are very close but she keeps disappearing.
Will Seren find the one said to have been behind her father's death, the Darkbringer? Will her and Darius become more than friends? Will they figure out where Nissa keeps disappearing too? You will have to read this book to find out!
I loved being a part of the arc team for this book and absolutely can't wait for the next book in the series!
Winter’s Kiss Goodnight is a captivating, fast-paced, action-packed read filled with mystery, romance, hidden truths, and yes, witches, monsters, and hunters too!
Seren’s story pulled me in from the very beginning. Her drive to avenge her father's death fuels her journey and sometimes clouds her judgement, but that only made her feel more human, complex, relatable, and deeply compelling. I was so immersed in her perspective that I didn’t anticipate some of the twists unfolding around her, especially those involving Darius.
I found myself really drawn to the Darkbringer and honestly would’ve loved to see more of them, but the glimpses we did get were just enough to keep my curiosity on high alert. I'm hoping we get more in book two… *sighs dreamily*.
This story is layered with tension, secrets, and unexpected turns that kept me hooked from start to finish. I didn’t want it to end, and now that I’ve finished it, I’m genuinely longing to return to this world.
I received an ARC of this book, and this review reflects my own reflections and is shared voluntarily.
✨Friends to enemies 🏹 witch hunter ✨ hooded savior 🏹 forced to befriend the enemy ✨ uncovered truths
🕯️”Hello starburst”
This story was really enjoyable and I loved the fairytale inspired setting with the castle, dazzling city, and prince.
While it started off slow and it took a few chapters for me to feel immersed, once it started to pick up pace I found myself hooked.
There was a few twists and turns that kept things interesting, fight scenes, and a powerful, stubborn fmc that continue to pave her own path, despite societal pressure.
While I understood why the fmc had to submit to the mmc to save her family, i found myself so annoyed that such an independent woman was putting up with this guys shit.
But it just goes to show that the author did her job well by making me feel so much toward the characters 😂
At times the pacing felt a bit off and things started to become a bit repetitive which is why I’m stuck on the star rating. I also started to get a bit frustrated with the fmc at times for her rigid beliefs.
I did see one or two of the twists coming and I have an idea of what will be revealed in the next book but I’m eager to pick it up!!
All I have left to say is I NEED MORE DARKBRINGER. I’m already falling in love with him.
If there's one takeaway from this book, it's that an unsatisfactory dick will always turn into the most toxic, possessive one. But what an adventure where things aren't always what they seem! I can't wait to see what happens next!
Just to note I received an ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review!
What a fabulous story. I think Sloan does a fabulous job of guiding characters to see life in a different way. I loved watching Seren find herself and how she stands up for what she wants out of life. The sister like relationship with her cousin Nissa was so beautiful. It was also suchhh a bingeable book! Would highly recommended reading if you are looking for something that is fantasy without being too fluffy or too serious. It’s the perfect inbetween.
Spoilers:
If you also hate the spoiled child man, Albert, join the club! Sloan did such a great job of introducing him as kind and gentle but then was revealed to be an absolute monster! I cannot WAIT to learn more about Atlas!!!
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I received this ARC and apologize for the delayed review, but Winter’s Kiss Goodnight by bv Sloan was a fun read nontheless.
The story introduces Seren, a young woman raised as a farmer’s daughter until a tragic fire killed her father. Her mother’s remarriage to the High Priest of Izar thrusts her into a life of noble privilege, which is apparently a life she finds suffocating. Despite her comfort, Seren clings to her farmer roots and constantly refers to her stepfather as exactly that - “stepfather” - which feels more like emotional sabotage than healthy coping. She’s deeply self-centered early on (a common romantasy trait, to be fair), and her yearning to be a soldier is oddly underdeveloped. I mean, what has she been doing the past decade while brooding and whining in gold-threaded gowns?
Darius, her charming sparring partner and romantic interest early on, starts out as a lovable cinnamon roll.
What did capture my interest was the mysterious magic system, particularly around witches. Is it genetic? Why can’t they trace it better? It’s fuzzy, but intriguing enough.
Seren’s growth arc finally kicks in during the final third, when she begins to reckon with her prejudice against witches and realizes her actions have real consequences. It was about time but at least we get some solid plot movement, fewer complaints, and - cue dramatic music- Atlas enters the scene (well, he's been in the scenes on and off throughout the book, but finally plays a bigger role).
Yes, there’s foreshadowing for fated mates (big sigh), but I’m 100% on board for the silver-eyed, flame-wielding, morally grey love interest that is Atlas, aka the Darkbringer. He controls fire, can heal, and is smoldering in more ways than one. He may not be a “shadow daddy,” but he’s definitely a fire daddy, and I need more of him in my life. Also need to know more about the Enaro because they sound beautifully evil! I don't think I've read of similar night-sky skinned creatures before...
Looking forward to Book 2, where hopefully Seren whines less and Atlas sets everything (including my expectations) ablaze.
🖤🖤Will vengeance set her free or destroy her completely? How far will she go?
We have vengeance, betrayal, and love, this story follows the haunting journey of Seren—scarred in body and soul—after a coven of witches and creatures annihilates her village and murders her father. What begins as a quest for bloodshed deepens into a dark story layered with secrets and forbidden magic.
Seren is not your typical heroine. Hardened by loss and fueled by rage, her vulnerability lurks just beneath her armor of fury. She’s complex, volatile, and a stubborn ass at times. I battled at times with her character, I had a love hate relationship with her, but ultimately i think love won, her emotional depth and determination will resonate with anyone who’s ever grappled with grief and loss or been consumed by it.
Enter Darrius, under the disguise of just a plain trainee just like her, manages to befriend Seren and charm his way into her life but as we all know nothing is as it seems...ever
His vow to help Seren avenge her father seems too good to be true—and perhaps it is. As many of us Romantasy readers know ...were not gonna fall for it and his dimples!!
Seren uncovers truths about the people she loves, that force her to choose between love, loyalty and fulfilling what she believes to be her sole purpose in life, Vengeance. But it always, always comes with a price.
I saved the Best for last....
Enter finally our Dark silver eyed daddy, The source of Seren’s Hatred, Our DarkBringer
She is out to hunt and kill our dark daddy believing he is the cause of her father's death, manipulating all the witches and creatures to do his bidding but in the midst of it all he has been the only one to save her... He also said
“Who did that to you ?!!”
Sloan is a master at storytelling, building a world and characters you will grow to love to only destroy you emotionally ...and I'm here for it all! Destroy me!
I was lucky enough to be selected for an ARC for this story. I really enjoyed the world building and the premise that witches are evil and organised. The FMC longs to be a witch hunter to avenge her father. I couldn’t put it down and I will definitely pick up book 2.
There was a dramatic introduction to a new character which I loved because I didn’t see it coming- no details as I don’t do spoilers. The author is very good at twisting the story suddenly without warning and I enjoyed that immensely. There are so many possibilities of how this story is going to develop I’m so intrigued to follow it through to book 2.
I loved the banter with her training partner and the complex relationship with her mother was very believable. It has some harrowing moments that are written very well, so do check those trigger warnings
This is a very character driven story with lots of character development and I have to say at times that development broke my heart! I’m still routing for Albert and him being under a spell (😢)
The description of the world was on point - not excessive like some fantasy worlds but just the right amount to immerse you so I could imagine it all.
I really enjoyed the romance element as it evolved and this trope usually gives me the ick but it was written very well and I was actually routing for the couple.
I assumed early in this was a romantasy but actually it’s much more a fantasy with some romantic elements. So if you enjoy character driven paranormal fantasy’s I highly recommend you check this out!
I was very fortunate enough to be sent an early copy of this book by the author and rated it 4.75 Stars overall!
I LOVED this book and cannot wait to continue with the rest of the series once it is released!
Seren our FMC is incredibly headstrong, does not conform to societies standards and is genuinely hilarious which had me so invested in this story. Seren experienced something tragic in her childhood which has shaped her into who she is today and has also heavily influenced her decision to fight the witches that cause destruction in this world.
This book is packed with action, witty banter and plot twist galore! So many of the plot twists that came to light I genuinely was not expecting and honestly had me on the edge of my seat because I NEEDED to know what happened next.
Seren does enter a courtship with one of the MMCs in this book however he will not be the main love interest throughout this series which has me super excited for book number 2. This is very much a slow burn, enemies to lovers series with the first book setting up the rest of the series so so well. Our future love interest has multiple encounters with Seren throughout the book and she genuinely despises him, even going as far as stabbing him twice in this book alone.
The ending had me yelling because I wanted to know what happens next but there were no more pages for me to continue.
I highly, highly recommend this book if you are into fantasy and witches as it is a new favourite of mine!
This is my first book by Sloan and definitely won't be my last.
Amazing book filled with lies, betrayal, vengeance, and a strong, smart mouth, stubborn FMC.
Selen once dreamed of living a simple life as a farmer. Till witches burnt down her village and an Enaro killed her father. That day, she made a promise to her father to avenge his death.
Selen joined the Royal Army to train to learn how to destroy her enemies. She befriends Darius, a charming young nobleman. He promises to help Selen in her quest for revenge, but beneath his charm and dazzling smile hides his true intentions and nature.
As secrets of the ones she loves are revealed, Selen realises that her need for revenge may put their lives in danger.
Will Selen be able to let go of her promise to avenge her father to protect the ones she loves or risks everything for her quest for revenge?
I loved Selen's smart mouth, independence, stubborn attitude, and her growth throughout the book. Also, I love the connection between Selen and her cousin Nissa. How much they care and protect each other even after Selen finds out about Nissa's secret.
I can't wait for book 2 to find out how Selen's story unfolds.
💕 For a book that’s close to 500 pages long, there wasn’t a part that lost my interest. This book hooks you from the start. Seren has one sole focus in life. Vengeance. To hunt witches and the Enaro. To destroy each and every one of them for the destruction of her village and the death of her father. The idea that not all are evil is unfathomable to her.
I really love the idea of the Enaro - “the creature with skin as dark and glassy as a midnight sky, glittering speckles of starlight over its entire body, could never be mistaken for anything other than Enaro.” Are they truly as evil as she has been led to believe? Are they really as indestructible as it seems? To be honest, they sound truly mystical.
This story has a number of fantastic characters. Nissa, Seren’s cousin and best friend - the epitome of sweetness and light. Her sole desire is to help others. But she’s not everything she appears to be.
Darius is kind and lovable. Down to earth and always proving to be helpful. He is also not everything he appears to be. You love him, you hate him, you want good things for him. You want him to experience a long and painful humiliation. You wish him the best. Ultimately, you just wonder how his story will end.
The Darkbringer is mysterious and intriguing. Seren hates him from the start. And then, for us, the line begins to blur. But not her. Oh no. Her need for vengeance is unbreakable. Or is she starting to see that it’s not all that simple? I look forward to more of him in the next book.
Ooooh, this was good! Fantasy with the main trope as "Friends to Enemies."
The story starts out a little slow, but don't let this put you off. The intrigue kept me reading, and when the plot twists jumped out, heightening that intrigue, I was hooked.
Seren is a headstrong, stubborn young woman whose main desire is to avenge her dead father by killing all the Witches and Enaro plaguing the land. But as the stepdaughter of a nobleman, everyone else has other ideas for her future.
By far, Seren's cousin, Nissa, was my favourite FM, but I'm not giving away any spoilers about her.
However, let's talk about the MMCs: DARIUS - I LOVED him until...(UNITL)...he got hit by the Tamlin brush. Actually, he was 100% worse than Tamlin because the possessiveness was frightening. I am intrigued to discover if Darius' obsession with Seren is purely desire or if there's something else hidden there. DARKBRINGER (AKA ATLAS) - We don't see a lot of this MMC but, when we do, he is mysterious, roguishly handsome, and his quick lip and banter are delightful. I NEED MORE!
This is a seriously, super slow burn spanning the series. You have been warned!
This book was both enjoyable and frustrating to read. I thought I had an idea of where it was headed but then it pulled a 180 and I had to reassess everything (perhaps a closer look at the book synopsis may have prevented this, however, I do like to be surprised).
It started out with Seren and Darius who struck up a friendship which turned into something more. I did struggle with this knowing the FMC was not into it, it gave me a bit of an ick. But then when Darius turned possessive and controlling and awful, I felt frustrated that the independent FMC just put up with it for so long or tried to explain it away. I do understand she was sacrificing herself for the good of other characters but it was still hard to read. All of their spicy scenes gave me the ick, even when I initially liked Darius. So well done to BV Sloan for this.
There is another MC who is emerging and I am very keen to see where that develops and for our FMC to have a better suitor. I will definitely be reading the next book.
Thank you to the author for gifting me this book. I am voluntarily leaving a review.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
This was a story of revenge, prejudice, hidden truths, mysterious enemies, stubborn FMC and towards the end of the story, a little inkling of growth of the FMC…
I’m sorry to say I thought this story would’ve needed some major pruning. I got so bored of the FMC’s inner monologue about having to avenge her father. I think the reader understood as much for a little less repetition.
I had an ARC of the novel and I couldn’t see the page numbering (only Kindle locations), but I’d say the first two thirds of the story were slow and it took too long for the proper action to start.
But the story got more intriguing and less annoying (&repetitive), once Seren (FMC) started to finally question her truths. I found Nissa to be the least annoying character so far. Sure, the enemy warlock, the Darkbringer, has a lot of potential to be very interesting.
In other words, I waded through the first half of the story and after that the story finally began to pull me in. So much so that I do think I need to find out what adventures Seren will face. Three stars for the fact that I was entertained in the end, but had to wait too long for it.
Seren is a daughter of a farmer but then her life drastically changes. Witches and evil monsters, Enaro, burn her village and set her up for a path of vengeance. Her mother gets remarried to the second most powerful man in the country and she gets treated as nobility. However, she has never forgotten her goal - to rid the world of the evil that witches bring.
I was pleasantly surprised with this read. The first half had me - even though I predicted most of the plot, it was very enjoyable and easy to read, the conversations had me laughing out loud and I loved the training sequences.
But in the second part, things changed quite a lot, some conversations became repetitive and some of the actions of certain characters just didn't make enough sense to me. I also started to be bothered by the vocabulary used in regards to relationships, it didn't seem fitting for the setting at times.
That said, I enjoyed this take on the witch-themed fantasy and I would definitely enjoy reading more of this series.
This book focuses on Seren - daughter of a farmer, stepdaughter of a High Priest, with a fondness for kneeing men in the groin. Her entire life is devoted (to the point of obsession) to avenging her father’s death. As she makes decisions she believes will bring her closer to her goal, she discovers that the truth is nowhere near as black and white as she believes.
More fantasy than romantasy, this book deals with prejudice, misplaced vengeance, and coming to terms with the consequences of one’s actions. It deals with the hate/fear of “other”, misogyny and v!olence against women, and the creeping dread that comes when you realise you’ve made a terrible mistake.
This is a slow-burn, open door book. There is a relationship that becomes very controlling across the book that is likely to be triggering for some people. This is the first book in a new series and so we are left with far more questions than answers when we reach the end. The overall story is shaping up to be epic and I am so excited to read more of this world.
✨ARC REVIEW ✨ I got this copy back in May (I think?) and I apologize for putting in the back burner for so long, because it was actually good !
I loved the premise, and the "Friends-to-lovers(ish)-to - enemies" trope.
the start was slow but with a world that is so rich and detailed, it really has to be. The fact that we don't discover everything in the first book is really nice too. the world is very researched and I absolutely loved the bond between Seren and Nissa ! The mother is a very interesting character too. Also I loved the name Seren!
I knocked off a star because of the writing style that was very repetitive and the frankly frustrating inability of the FMC Seren to take a step back and reassess things and find answers on her own. I felt like she didn't even know her own world herself. what do you mean you're the stepdaughter of the most influential person of the city and you don't even know what the prince looks like ???
anyway, beside that I had a good time reading it and I love Orion with my whole heart ❤️❤️ can't wait for book 2 and more scenes with him and Atlas!
There’s a lot to admire here. The world-building is rich, and the opening pulled me in with real promise. But as the story progressed, I found myself growing increasingly disconnected. I struggled to connect with Seren’s decisions and emotional arc, especially in how her trauma was handled. Character growth is something I really look for, and unfortunately, I didn’t quite see enough of it in the first half to stay engaged.
I also found the writing style a bit rough in places, which made it harder to overlook some of the plot's predictability. That said, I truly appreciate the ambition and creativity at play. There’s a solid foundation here that I think will really resonate with the right reader.
This one just wasn’t for me, but I know it’s found a passionate audience, and I sincerely wish the author all the best as they continue the series. Thank you so much for the complimentary copy.
To be honest I was not expecting the story to take the turns it did. The story was very heartfelt and made you feel for all the characters.. and then be mad at others. The way the story rolls out gives you so much character building that it is easy to connect with their stories. Thank you to the author Sloan for taking me on this ride into such a unique world. I really enjoyed the slow burn start and the fast action end, except now the wait for book 2 to see how this all plays out and have so many questions answered.
Seren was burned and nearly killed by witches when she was a child. Her father was killed. Afterwards, Seren, her mother and cousin moved to the palace because her mother remarried. From that point on they were considered nobility. She had it made. A life of luxury and wealth. It wasn’t what she wanted. She wanted revenge at all costs. She joined the Royal Guard to kill all witches. But are they all bad and deserve death? Her deep hatred had always led her to believe so but what if she was wrong? This book will keep you guessing all the way through! Seren has some very important decisions to make and all will have dire consequences. The ending will leave you breathless and dying for the next book! Thank you BV Sloan for letting me read yet another of your fabulous arcs! This one was my favorite so far!
Dark, twisty, and so addictive—this book grabbed me by the throat once it got going and refused to let go. The prophecies, hidden powers, complicated dynamics, and that slow-building tension had me flipping pages like mad. I need book 2 ASAP.
Sloan knows how to write a fantasy that cuts deep—villains you’ll rage at, a heroine who refuses to bow to anyone, and a plot that’s got just enough twists to keep your heart in your throat.
The fairytale vibes? Obsessed. Give me castles, shimmering cities, royal secrets, and one fierce, stubborn FMC challenging the status quo.
It took a couple chapters to get fully immersed, but once it found its rhythm? I was all in.
If you love character-driven paranormal fantasy with just the right amount of darkness—this one’s for you.
Holy FUCK if you’re looking for a book to live rent free in your head until the end of the series and probably after- this is the one to go with. I genuinely could not stop thinking about this book.
What more could you want? Incredible tension, romance, death, witches and dark incredible beings made of the night sky itself 🖤🖤🖤. Mystery upon mystery, and this author LOVES to give clues. So pay attention.
And don’t let me forget about the darkbringer. He’s everything you’re looking for in your next book soulmate. The witty remarks will have you giggling and YEARNING. Highly recommend you dive in immediately.
Our FMC is stubborn, she’s been through a lot, but deep inside she’s a good person and she’s gonna get it right. She just needs a gentle push from a certain darkbringer. Maybe the both do. 🖤
I received an ARC of Winter's Kiss Goodnight from the author.
The premise was interesting, and I liked the FMC Seren in the beginning, but her obsession with vengeance and genocide really turned me off.
She refused to move past the tragedy of her past and let it run her life. I was honestly glad everyone basically called her out for it. Her unrelenting hatred of witches and finger-pointing became tiresome.
I liked Nissa and Orion, they seemed to talk some sense into Seren or at least let her ponder. Seren was so hell bent on revenge, but was ultimately very cowardly.
I also did not enjoy the almost instantaneous face-heel turn from two characters at the end. One of them does a pretty shocking 180 at 80% in.
I thank the author for sending this to me and hopefully Seren finds peace in the next book.
This book has so much character development (good and bad). I loved reading about Seren. After witches and the enaro burned her village down and killed her father, Seren vows to avenge him by killing all witches. Her mother remarries the High Priest and claims her and her cousin Nissa as his own, making them noble women. Seren starts training to become a soldier and meets a noble man named Darius, the two strike up a friendship/romance. As the plot develops, she learns the true nature of those closest to her and starts to question if her path for revenge is right and if all witches really are bad. I really loved this book. Some of Seren's choices made me mad, but it made her seem more real. I can't wait for the next book!
