THE DARK QUARTET four thrilling historical naval adventures

Rate this book
A tale of grit, revenge, and the resilience of one man against a tide of tyranny.

Matthew Milburn is a rugged Cumbrian farmer with a sharp mind and an iron will. After he is left for dead and stripped of everything, he is determined to seek revenge. Matthew crosses the Atlantic to the chaotic world of early 19th-century America — where new wars brew, old enemies lurk, and justice is as sharp as a blade.

Perfect for fans of Alexander Kent, Christopher C. Tubbs, John Drake, C.S. Forester and Bernard Cornwell.

BOOK 1: IN THE DARK OF THE MOON
1800s. Matthew Milburn has everything to live for — until ruthless aristocrat, Lady Sarah, destroys his family, steals his Westmorland hill farm, and has him beaten bloody. With nothing left in the world, he is left with no choice but to forge a new life as a sailor in Nelson’s Navy. But on his first voyage he’s left for dead. Matthew must build his own path and in a world of plunder and pirates, he rises with only one goal — vengeance.

BOOK 2: RIDE THE DARK TIDE
1812. Betrayed and hunted, Matthew is rebuilding his life with the one thing he never expected — a son he barely knows. But before he can get to know him, Bartholomew is snatched from under his eyes and forced to enlist with the Royal Navy. When war breaks out, Matthew finds himself fighting on the opposite side to his son. To protect him, Matthew must risk everything — facing ambush, betrayal, and a plot that reaches the heart of the Empire.

BOOK 3: STORM IN THE DARK
1815. On the blood-soaked shores of New Orleans, Matthew faces archenemy Sir Jonathan Bright, who broke his family and stole his livelihood. But Matthew’s fight is no longer against one man. Now the stakes are higher, as Matthew faces a much bigger enemy — the might of the British Empire.

BOOK 4: AGAINST A DARK SHORE
1816. The horror of war is over, but the fight for freedom has just begun. Matthew is caught up in a slave uprising in the Bahamas. He throws himself into the heart of the rebellion, desperate to save a young girl and her family from a terrible fate. But as violence erupts, he must decide how far he’s willing to go for their cause.
