An erotic why-choose bisexual novella: trans-coded M/M & trans-coded M/F
Tano, a shapeshifter and Commander of the Tinoran City Watch, is cursed by a god to become human, and is completely overwhelmed by his new anatomy and attendant biological urges. He accidentally falls into definitely-not-a-relationship with his long-time enemy Karchak - a mediocre smuggler, fence, and tavern owner.
At the same time, he begins exploring a friends-with-benefits situation with a nearby cafe owner who just wants something nice and simple after the end of her previous marriage. In the end, everyone gets what they want.
What an absolute page-turner! For fans of fantasy (and possibly, Star Trek), this novella hits all the right notes. It's bisexual and trans-coded and aro/ace friendly and delightfully stuffed with back-to-back sex scenes that'll have you begging for more!
"You were right. We are the same. [...] I'm a monster trying to be a saint, and you're a saint trying to be a monster. And we're both f*cking bad at it."
Ever wonder what would happen if DS9's Odo got turned human and was taught how to hatef*ck Quark? This is that story, but set in a classic DnD-esque fantasy world. Not fanfiction, but fan-pandery (in the best way), Enemies to Enemies is everything I wanted out of Travis Baldree’s Legends & Lattes and didn't get.
There's a plot and good story-telling too, if you're into that kind of thing. But also: M/M, M/F, FWB, first time, interspecies, and so on. Seriously excellent from start to finish.
Thank you BookSprout, and Ash Kreider for sending me this advance review copy for free. I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I'm glad this was a shorter novella, because it was not enjoyable at all. I love reading these types of novellas, but this one dropped us into the middle of the story with zero worldbuilding or introductions to the characters. It was really hard to connect to them at all, and there are a few I'm not even sure what they look like. The writing was very stilted and odd, and it went from random spicy scene to scene with no real connection between them.
An excellent read. The characters are deep and believable, the world building extensive without ever feeling like info dumps.
Ash's prose flows like a river, every step feeling inevitable as the two engage in a battle of the heart and mind. Will they fall together, or apart? You'll have to buy the book to find out.
I loved this book. It was so well written and kept me so entertained. From the first chapter I was hooked. I can say that this was a 5 star read for me. I look forward to the future books this author writes.
