She was born for the spotlight. Until it nearly destroyed her.
Cayden "Deni" Indigo is the hottest teen pop star on the charts, until an explosion at her concert shatters everything. Now she can't step on stage without panicking, and people blame her for the deaths at her show.
When her mom decides she needs a summer away from the spotlight, Deni ends up at a lake in Northwestern Ontario, Canada, where no one recognizes her without her stage makeup and wigs. That includes Hunter Gray, her new neighbor. As her life shifts from red carpets and award shows to boats and bonfires, she starts to fall for Hunter—and he starts to fall for her. There's just one problem: Hunter hates celebrities. And Deni hasn’t told him the truth.
But secrets never stay hidden for long. And when Deni’s catches up with her, it's not just her heart on the line—it could be their lives.
Perfect for fans of romantic drama, hidden identity, friends-to-lovers romance, and slow-burn summer love, One Night Only is the first book in a swoony new teen celebrity romance series about fame, trauma, and the power of being truly seen.
Love, laughter, and happily ever after are what you'll find in the teen and celebrity romance novels penned by Jennifer Farwell, whose writing has been featured by Publishers Weekly, Cosmopolitan, Wattpad, Marriott, and more. She has been writing since the day she picked up a navy blue crayon as a toddler and began scribbling on her parents' freshly painted white walls, and this eventually led to her completing an MA in English, a journalism degree, and all of her novels to date. Jennifer grew up in Thunder Bay, Canada, and now lives in Southern California, where she spends her non-writing time playing at sound baths, taking in live music and stand-up comedy, and cheering on her favorite hockey team during hockey season.
“Summer or summertime is the hottest and brightest of the four temperate seasons, occurring after spring and before autumn.”
I felt like the ending song Dani wrote is not in a form of a song. It was very wordy and lots of syllables for one verse. It felt more like a long poem, but other than that this book was a perfect summer read. I enjoyed it a lot and binged most of it this morning. I have been really busy so I couldn’t beige the whole thing sadly. I bought the book half way through reading it even though I received a free digital copy. I liked how the author incorporated more modern elements without making it too realistic if that makes sense. I like modern books, but I don’t like the mention of celebrities, brands, and politics. The characters were relatable and interesting. The conflicts and drama were perfect, wouldn’t change a thing. The beginning was a little slow which was hard for me to get into at first, but definitely worth it. I can’t believe the characters got together though at 50% that is crazy. This was so clean and appropriate. It still gave me butterflies without have spice or descriptive make outs, very pure. Definitely recommending.
🩷 Extra rant 🩷: Alright, this man so sweet, romantic, thoughtful, gentleman, and respectful. I love this man. He is such a wonderful character.

One Night Only is the story of Deni, a pop star surviving a terrible trauma and finding love during her recovery away from L.A. I don’t think I’m the target audience, as this felt more like a teen romance, and I’m well into my thirties, but I have to say, I loved it!
It brought me back to watching Hannah Montana, since Deni has a same Hannah/Miley situation going on! It also made me think of what happened to Ariana Grande at her Manchester concert a few years ago, and worrying about her afterwards. One Night Only is kind of like going into her head during the aftermath.
Beautifully written, the POV of Deni felt a bit mature for her age, but still captivating, sweet and profound.
So if you’re looking for a love story for your 14/20 year olds, this is it! A lovely HEA, no spice, the thrill of celebrity with the human side of artists people often forget.
I applied to read this as an ARC, thank you very much for selecting me! I loved getting to know the characters, getting to read Deni’s growth and recovery, the beautiful scenery and overall loveliness of One Night Only.
This was cute, but I got a bit annoyed by Deni's dumb choices. She was supposed to lay low, but goes to parties and festivals. She could have spoken up to Hunter earlier on and prevent a lot of the drama that unfolded in the end. The plan to basically ambush the poor guy at a concert made me give it a star less.
While I am not a big fan of celebrity-romances in general, I do love sweet YA romance books and the hidden identity trope is one of my favorites, so after reading the blurb, I wanted to give this book a try. (And let’s be honest, the cover definitely caught my attention, it’s so pretty!)
The book didn’t disappoint, it’s a really sweet romance about a popstar who deals with a traumatic experience on top of the aftermath of a toxic relationship. Deni is a really sweet character, she is relatable and down to earth despite her fame and it was easy to empathize with her. Trying to get away from all the trauma and drama, she hides away with her mom at a lake house - and there she meets Hunter, a boy who hates celebrities but seems otherwise to be kind of perfect.
I loved these two together. The romance was really cute. My favorite part were probably the handwritten notes. They were maybe a bit too perfect for a teenage boy, but I loved them! And while I understand both POVs and why they behaved the way they did, I think they both actually did nothing wrong. Sometimes you do the right thing (or one of the right things, it’s not always that easy..) and still someone gets hurt.
I did remove a star because of two things. One is that the initial relationship and interactions between Deni and her ex gave me the ick and I think there is not enough … closure? I can’t really explain it, but something didn’t sit right with me and it wasn’t just him being an immense jerk but everything around their relationship.. idk I also think there was a wasted opportunity with the premise of the book. Yes, we see how the explosion affected Deni and her band (at least glimpses of it), she visits with fans in the hospital and she feels guilty towards the families who suffer because of what happened at her concert. But all of this is rather brief or surface level. When the threat is dealt with (also in a kind of distant way), Deni seems to go back to her life a bit too easily. It’s not poorly done in any way, I just think there was potential for more, for something a bit deeper. But the author probably wanted to keep it a bit more lighthearted, focusing on the romance and Deni’s time away. So this is just what I thought and felt reading it.
I really enjoyed this book and am looking forward to the other half of the duology! (Hunter’s POV? Another character’s story..?)
* Thank you to the author for letting me read an advanced copy of this book. I received a copy of this book via BookSirens and I leave this review voluntarily. The expressed opinions are my own.
I received this book as a review copy and found it to be a cozy read.
This story is about Deni, she is a popstar and her life changes when a bomb explodes at one of her concerts. She goes to a cottage in Canada for the summer to relax and process everything. Once there, she meets Hunter, a very sweet boy who is not really a fan of popstars. They get to know each other, make memories and Deni experiences what it is like to be anonymous. Only secrets catch up with her and she has to go back to reality.
The book is beautifully written, has a nice structure that made me keep reading. The story is very nice, just a nice cozy read for this summer. It has romance, the life of a 17 year old and a touch of suspense. I am very happy that I was able to read this book! This book is the first part of a series and I am very curious about part 2!
Tropes Secret identity A YA summer romance Teen pop star Slow burn Next door neighbor Friends to lovers
This beautiful story focus on a horrific incident, trying to move forward and heal from it and also the power of love! This is a clean romance with no spice but I still fully enjoyed the read. It was a slow start but I got into it pretty quick as I love the pop star secret identity trope and I absolutely loved this read! However I would recommend still reading the TW page if you’re easily triggered. Cayden aka “Deni” is a sensational Pop star and is performing at one of her concerts when an horrific incident happens (reminding me much of the Ariana grande concert) and her mother has her go to a lake for the summer, in Canada to heal and escape the madness of a celebrity life. It’s there that she meets her hot neighbor Hunter who she develops a crush on and who coincidentally can NOT stand celebrities making it harder and harder for her to come out and reveal her real identity to him the closer they get. As Deni’s secret catches up with her it threatens their building relationship and their safety. Will Hunter stand by her side through it all? This story was absolutely beautifully written filled with emotion, such a great summer read thank you! Oh and extra thought I absolutely loved Hunter he’s so sweet and loyal person. So caring. I definitely recommend you grab your copy and find out what happens so worth the read ❤️
When teen sensation Deni Indigo is forced to escape the spotlight after a traumatic incident, she finds herself at a quiet Canadian lake, unburdened by her fame. Here, she meets Hunter Gray, her charming neighbor, and the stage is set for a poignant romance—complicated by Hunter's strong dislike for celebrities and Deni's secret identity. The book masterfully blends the classic secret-identity trope with a sensitive exploration of trauma and healing. You'll find yourself deeply invested in Deni's emotional journey as she grapples with panic and blame, slowly finding solace and connection in a world far removed from red carpets and stage lights. Hunter, with his loyal and caring nature, becomes a compelling anchor in her new reality. The narrative flows effortlessly, delivering an emotionally grounded story that feels both authentic and deeply moving, without resorting to extreme drama. It's a testament to finding oneself and love when everything seems to fall apart.
I really enjoyed this story and, as a Canadian myself, was glad to see that most of it was set in Canada! I went into this completely blind and solely based on the absolutely gorgeous cover. I will say: people picking this up should heed the trigger warnings.
I don't read too much YA anymore, but this was giving Hannah Montana which was fun. The story was very well written and although the themes were very heavy, the way they were described felt fresh and like nothing I've read before.
The side characters (Deni's mom and Hunter's sister especially) really added to my enjoyment of the story. You can judge my enjoyment of this book by the fact that I read it in one sitting!
Both Deni and Hunter were a delight to follow, Hunter especially was so very special and a perfect 'book boyfriend' I'm very excited that there's a second book coming from Hunter's POV and I'll definitely be reading it!

One Night Only is beautifully written, and I loved the characters and how the story flows. It’s the perfect teen romance, full of emotion and heart, and I really enjoyed reading it. The book also touches on serious moments, reminding me of the Ariana Grande concert attack, and shows what it’s like to deal with something so heavy.
This was different than most books I read and I went in blind because honestly, I loved the cover! I’m so glad I had the opportunity to read this book because it was such a good and fun read! One minute I was angry at a certain character, sad for the FMC, and then so entirely happy for her! The flow of the book was so good and well written in my opinion. I love how much support the FMC had throughout the entire book! And I’m so glad it ended the way it did! Definitely a 5 ⭐️ for me! *I received this advance review copy for free and am leaving my honest review voluntarily!*
I tagged this as mature young adult primarily for the beginning parts, it's a lot if you're not prepared for it.
I enjoyed this book- It was nothing special though. Very predictable love story, followed exactly the path expected. But despite not being "special"- it was still a good book and a comfortable read. Maybe a little bit slow in the middle, but that's find. So, I enjoyed it, wouldn't read it again.
This was an easy read, the story flowed very well. It has all the feels: trauma, suspense, and young love. I will say the characters age came across to me as older than 17, but this did not take away from my enjoyment. Good read. I received this book for free and am leaving this review voluntarily.
Wow! I loved the connection with characters and the feelings and emotions this book evoked! Unusual situation made this so entertaining and enjoyable to read. I really like Hunter and how they met. All the characters really added to the depth of the story! Loved it!
