Never Surrender

Rate this book
For Henry Andrews, the single life is what it’s all about. No one to answer to, no one to tell him what to do, and no way his heart can get broken. Then all his friends couple up and settle down, and Henry wonders if he’s missing out on something. Enter the hot-as-sin Marine next door, and suddenly Henry is hearing wedding bells. Jackson is everything he never knew he needed, and he’s completely hooked. While being gentle and sweet with him, Jackson is extremely closed off about his recent trauma, and won’t let Henry as close as he longs to be. Is there any way to convince his I’m not the forever type soldier that they could be something worth fighting for?

These men might believe themselves to be made of steel, to be indestructible, but life has other plans, it want's to show them that steel can be their facade but they need to remember to bend, to flex, to allow their softer sides to come out from time to time.

It happens for Henry as yet another pair of friends are married. he finds himself wondering what if... But then again he is very content being single, he has a home, a dog, a successful career, but that what if... wants to nag.

Jackson has a different experience. On medical leave from the forces he is simply waiting to be given clearance to return until he meets his new neighbour. Henry. Of course only just being home for the first time in two years this is only his first time of seeing the other man. The first time that he might have ever given what if... the time of day.

Jackson struggles with PTSD following the incident that left him on medical leave. He has therapy, PT, but aside from his mother, sister, niece, he has virtually nothing in his life. He lived for his role in the forces. Meeting Henry changes something, especially when he steps in to remove an unwanted caller. There is something about his new neighbour that draws him in, brings up feelings he has never before had and, if he is true to himself, isn't entirely sure how to handle. As much as he is drawn to Henry, puts his trust in Henry and finds himself being let into Henry's life too he can't quite seem to let go of his role in the forces. He can't quite let Henry in.

Events come to heads, I do mean heads as there are a number of different peaks in this story, a number of events which could suggest dramatic change, some of which do create dramatic change but it is only after we have experienced each one along with Henry and Jackson that the story finally peaks, only to surprise us once more! There are some difficult subject matters in this story that may be triggering for some readers. Jackson has PTSD, Henry has family issues which turn out to be far more serious than they first seem. Please be kind to yourself. This is ultimately an MM romance and a beautiful one too but if there are topics that would trigger you please read with caution.

This is the third book in the 'Men of Steel' series and the first one I have read, so they can be read as a stand alone. Henry and Javkson are an age gap romance with seemingly opposite lives and characters. The previous couples are present as side characters and friends of MC Henry.

Henry, an interior designer and whao turns out to be a wizz on the stockmarket, and Jackson, a Marine are neighbours and only met for the first time since Angel, Henry his dog, comes to the mental rescue of Jackson.
They have been neighbours for a bit but Jackson has been deployed and in rehabilitaion for a long time so never met prior.

They start a friendship, which quickly is enriched with very spicy benefits that suits them both. All under the guise of it being loose and not a possessive fling.

As expected things turn more intense and also they let their friends and family in and more of their lives intertwine.

After some tough decisions have been made, difficult conversations have been had and family crises handled. Henry to his dismay finds out Jackson has been cleared for duty and ready to deploy. But can Jackson really leave Henry behind?

The story is written in a way that kept me engaged. I did appreciate the extra layer of Henry his birth family dynamic. That gave it that bit extra. I however found it a bit strange safewords where not discussed off in certain scenes.

Wow an emotional read at times
I’ve got to admit I wasn’t totally sure about this book when I started it but oh my gosh it wasn’t long till I was totally hooked. Henry is a lovely man who until you get towards the middle to the end of this book you don’t understand what he’s been through in his life. My heart went out to him and his brothers. I am so glad that he had Jackson in his life. They know it’s not forever it can’t be because Jackson will be going back on tour when he gets over his injury but while he is here, these two men have a wonderful relationship the passion that they share the connection the chemistry they could have everything but Jackson knew he didn’t want a relationship while he was going away. I am so glad that Henry had Jackson in his life. Henry’s got a really good group of friends, and Jackson just became one of them. They all gelled well. There is a twist at the end of the book that nearly broke my heart. But I am so glad of the outcome. A brilliant read could not put this book down.

Henry is an Interior Designer, he designed the inside of his house when he bought it and renovated the inside with his friends. Henry has a dog named Angel who likes Jackson. Jackson is Henry's next door neighbor and a Marine home for a while. Jackson still has nightmares about his last tour overseas. Jackson comes to Henry's rescue when he is getting attacked by one of his ex's. Jackson makes Henry dinner while he is drawing up his idea for Jackson's living room redesign. After dinner they go back to Henry's house and look at sample colors for the walls and fabric for the new furniture. Jackson help Henry Paint his living room and then they go shopping for the furniture and accessories he is going to put in the living room. The more time they spend together the closer they become. Jackson agrees to help Henry with his other projects, What will happen when Jackson is cleared to return to duty??? How will Henry handle the news when Jackson tells him????.

This book pulled me into the story of these two wonderful men from the beginning. Henry and Jackson have a FWB type relationship until it isn't. This makes the love that comes to them even more special. There is military service, interior decorating, found family, close friends and children that are not afraid to say what is on their mind. It is a wonderful addition to the series, and you will love it as much as the first two books.

Excellent! Henry, is happily single, living the life. He starts rethinking his life choices after his friends start settling down and appear very happy. Jackson, a Marine his next door neighbor, had been deployed when Henry moved into his house. They are immediately attracted and expect their relationhip to be casual, until it's not. A sweet, fun sexy story with good friends, supportive family and two really nice men who find the perfect partner in each other, but have communication issues. Great story, excellent flow, well done! Henry never wanted forever. He liked his life just the way it was. He liked his freedom. Then he met his neighbor and realizes he wants more. Jackson is home on medical leave from the marines. He doesn't do relationships, his life is the military. Then he meets his neighbor and he realizes he wants more. I really enjoyed this book.
